Extra, Extra, Read All About It! | News Tower (Newspaper Strategy Game - Demo)

hello lovely people welcome to the geek cupboard i am penj and welcome to news tower or more specifically the demo of news tower so this is a resource management game where we try to build a newspaper empire in new york in the 1930s so expect printing presses and journalists and people banging their fists on the table and shouting hold the front page and all that sort of stuff because that's how newspapers work isn't it i'm pretty sure it's something like that anyway so as we mentioned earlier this is the demo version of the game which of course means it's not the final version but as always if you are interested then there is a link to the steam store page in the video description below so you can grab the demo if it's still available and you can wishlist it and all that kind of stuff if you would like to anyway let's get on with it shall we somewhere news is happening and we need to report on it and here we go so i think we've just arrived in america because this postcard here on the other side had a picture of the statue of liberty on it and some people on a boat so i guess we have just arrived now the date is going to be in american format isn't it so this is december the 6th 1924 and the message says we disembarked from the ship just a few hours ago the trip was rough but america looks so grand and modern on arrival let's hope i can find a job in these dire times but i'm very hopeful and found your extra canister okay i wonder what that's about thank you mother much love oh we're sending a postcard to our mum oh that's lovely oh i do like that so there we go pop a stamp on it away it goes right so there are some people around a new stand of sorts so now it is july the 3rd 1925 i'm gonna get that wrong at points i do apologize finally found a real job selling papers from a newsstand on the corner of the street not making much but it's something indeed it's better than nothing it's good to meet so many different kinds of people say hi to dad from me and tell him i have my start in newspapers now hope he gets well soon okay so dad's a bit poorly so now what happens okay so now are we sort of becoming slightly more involved in the press by the look of it so this is now the 14th oh hang on it's not american date format because that doesn't make sense oh okay no so it's the 14th of august 1926. oh well there you go it wasn't american date format after all okay i'm not going to get it wrong from now on so yeah there we go day month year 14th of august 1926 working for the politics department now it's hard and not always ethical work but i'm starting to make a name for myself the other week i had a major scoop got applauded at the office felt great think i found my calling much love okay so things are going well for us we've arrived we're doing very well in the world of sort of you know media and all that kind of stuff and now it is the 30th of october 1929 i finally found a place that dream of dad owning his own newspaper it's mine to live now feeling blessed and ashamed with all those newspapers closing and people losing their jobs but this crash is our opportunity ah okay is this when the greats or depression's happening or whatever it was so call in the newspaper something in dad's honor wish me luck ah okay right so we get to name our newspaper oh hang on right i wasn't really prepared for this um okay right so what should we call that newspaper let's call it the daily cupper i like that i think that sounds very good indeed and the story of us could be that we've come here from the uk we've come here from england things weren't very good back home so we've come over here to try and make a new life for ourselves but of course because we're english we like a lovely cup of tea so we're going to call our newspaper the daily cuppa i do like that in dad's honor hopefully he would be very proud indeed okay right so let's see what happens next there we go that gets sent away oh oh right okay here we go so everything has happened hi there hello person can we go and zoom in and say hello oh yes we can this place has great potential you know okay that's exciting can we have a look around back in the day we were a respectable paper okay so this is the news tower here we go right so this is where we're going to set up loved all around the neighborhood okey doke oh you've teleported up there okay right here's a printing press of some sort bertha that's what we called oh bertha what a lovely machine heart of every newspaper and she's in good condition okay so we have ourselves a kind of printing press let's roll on shall we are you going to help us because i have no idea what i'm doing i don't know anything about newspapers or newspaper production or journalism or anything at all just like this old generator okay so the generator is fine the printing press is fine feed it some coal and generate power for days okey doke lovely fossil fuels no power no newspaper okeydoke right we had regular blackouts back in the day okay right so we have to make sure that we put coal into this to make sure that we can keep everything running so that's why this place runs on its own power supply okay don't cry noted mr man you have a wonderful walk mr man there you have a wonderful walk and a wonderful tie this is my grandfather who started it all okay he looks very dapper i like the moustache we chose to leave him up there the painting of him i hope he's sort of trapped up there is he bring some glamour from those old days yeah okay right yeah we can keep that there that's fine if not it might fetch you a pretty penny or two no no we'll remember the remember the history and heritage uh that uh you're giving this place second chance means the world to us now let's get those presses rolling publisher okay can you help so i don't know what to do good luck now if you'll excuse me no no you can't go please stay and show us what's going on oh hang on he's going to the he's actually going to the loop let's just let him let's let him go to the loo i've got some pressing to do for myself oh too much information my good sir oh we shut the door he shut the door okay so it says hang on can we pause time if space pause have we got a time slide of any code hang on a minute hang on we've got no more time fast forward or faster forward okay right there's no pause there's no pausing of time it's either fast or not all right okay um so it says set up a production chain and there's a guide okay and we seem to have 25 000 which is nice and there's no cry hang on right is this what's in our newspaper so stories about crime about economics politics society entertainment and sports okay right let's start this thing going let's start this guide over here uh we need something to process our articles let's do it okay right i'm very much in the dark here i mean okay we need to get some stories i would have thought don't we need some journalists to go and you know do some story gathering i would have thought okay so what's this up here then so hang on so we press hang on where's the guide um hang on set up a production chain oh this is all very confusing hang on let's build a spot for our reporters drag this card into a tower and place it somewhere okay so we're gonna have a little sort of reporting area so i think let's put it down here because i don't want to be up there near that i imagine that's quite a noisy thing so okay so drag that card over oh i like that that's very good and they can work underneath the chappie there okay every reporter brings a report back home these reports will then get edited at this desk okay right so then we have a copy editing desk yep okay that's fine and then a type setting desk okay after the article is edited the article needs to be type setted an employee will transport the edit edited article over here where the production continues let's build it oh hang on can we move things over then so let's put that there um put that there then right then a type setting desk so that can go there oh okay right that's where they're putting the letters on that's actually generating the thing that's going to be printed and then a composite table finally the article ends up at the compositor which marks the article as ready for printing let's build it okay so let's pop that up here then pop the compositor up there okay we've set up a production chain right order resources okay let's order some resources okay that sounds like a good plan in order for the tower to function we need supplies here you can schedule the delivery of your supplies okay right what do you need to do you can choose how much of each supply gets delivered per day when just starting once a week will probably be enough okay clicking one of these buttons will call for an emergency delivery if you are in a hurry okay so if we're really short of coal or whatever then yes we can do that um okay so it's currently tuesday it is tuesday so how about we get our deliveries on wednesdays because that means we can do some stuff tomorrow so let's get some coal now i've got no idea how much coal we need i haven't got a clue at all i mean how much does that generator use if it uses 100 coal per hour then we might need some more let's grab 200 of each thing i don't know is that enough i'm not really sure and then just to top up i'd know on saturday let's just get a little tiny top up shall we there we go that seems like a fun thing um yeah okay right so we'll have some resources so or hang on are we hang on we might need to order some resources now in an emergency sort of way um yeah okay i imagine we're gonna have to get some stuff in now won't we because otherwise nothing's gonna work emergency coal delivery do you know what we'll do that we'll do that we'll do that we'll just get some resources in i'm sure it'll all be fine everything will muddle through and it should be splendid um okay right so resources have arrived by the look of it um yeah okay we've got some we've got some coal i imagine where do we put this where do we put the coal do we put it into the generator i mean do we manually do it ourselves okay right so that is burning away here's another little i do like that i like the fact there is you know there's vehicles driving around it sort of feels alive and lived in and stuff um okay right hang on hang on hang on right so we can just drag the coal straight in okay not into the generator like that oh okay right so there is a there is a sort of a storage idea behind this as well i wasn't aware of that um right all the light seem to have gone off um i mean the generator's on i don't quite know why the lights have gone off but tokyo right so let's just let's get the coal in there we go right so coal goes in then we've got some food let's put the food in a nice pile over here i mean the food is next to the toilet but i'm sure that's all fine there we go we're going to get more of this tomorrow are we and then paper needs to go paper needs to go in there okay right here we go here we go we can do this zoom out a little bit there we go right grab the paper put in machine it's got 100 paper in it paper go into the machine 150 paper okay this is good 200. can that go in as well no okay so we can take 200 we can put paper in the toilet okay right uh right we can put paper in the toilet that's a bit of a surprise but tokidok um okay right hire four reporters and hire some janitors okay janitors very important we need to hire a janitor to transport the supplies we've ordered oh okay okay that's fine so we can move it ourselves or we can get somebody else to do it i mean you know we thought we'd just get stuck in hang on i like the way that we can go all the way over there look at that that's exciting you can go all the way across this side oh look we can go and look at the city oh my goodness me so i guess i guess you build your tower up because at the moment it's not much of a tower i guess it sort of meets some vague tower requirements but it's not very towery but i guess that uh that yes as you build up and you build up and up and up the tower will get bigger and bigger and bigger oh look at that look at that the mighty empire state building looking very good i like this it looks wonderful it does look very good oh look at ye olde sailing boat that's nice hang on a minute got distracted by looking at boats right janitors who shall we get this applicant looks pretty strong looks plenty strong let's hire so they're good at resupplying they're not that good at cooking they're not that good at cleaning but they do seem to be better than most of the people i mean if i'm honest i'd rather have somebody that was a little bit better at cooking but okay right the game is saying we should get this person so yeah okay in you go right hello oh look they give us a little wave oh that's nice oh you look very dapper you look very good i like you okay we're hiring three of them okay right so there's two so now we need to hire another janitor okay so now it's saying philip lewis so philip lewis is very good at cleaning okay do you know what philip blue is in your splendid oh look at this these are all the different roles we can have mechanics reporters image man that sounds like a really weird superhero okay um right so illuminate all desks um i kind of feel like we should do that before we hire the reporters oh here we go look they're lugging all the stuff around which is brilliant so they're moving all the goods about the place oh hang on this desk could use some extra light employees need light to work when it's dark find the lamps in the hang on can you go back to that please can you go back to that find the lamps in the something something there we go find the lamps in the build menu and place them above this desk make sure there is enough power the build menu okay hang on a minute building okay lamps oh look at this there are so many wonderful things okay power ah right so that's just right there we go lighting that would be it it's a wide lamp chandeliers um i like the deco lamps we could have some table lamps i do like those they look very good yes if we pop that there that is nice and lit and of course everything's lit up now because it's daytime which makes perfect sense how about then you pop a few of those over so deco lamp and deco lamp and on that desk there can we put on a desk lamp i do like that oh this is very good okay right i'm liking this i'm liking this this is all splendid right come out of that come out of the build menu um now we need to hire four reporters okay okay we can do that we can do that there's hiring and then we want to go to reporters okay so is this just gonna help us there you go right so robert white is very good at reporting on entertainment okay at sport and all right at society so they can each report on three different things they have three special areas okay that's fine so robert white in you go who else are you going to tell us to get can we get earl thompson because that's a good name so bit of economy a lot on crime they're very very good at reporting on crime and sports okie dokie right who is next we've got stephen or stefan newton so entertainment economy and sport okay so uh steven stefan there is our sports person and then the last one is dennis brown who is all about the politics okay in you come everybody oh this is excellent right okay assign employees okay right so now we need to put them into certain places do we okay let's put uh let's put somebody to work click to assign okay so who do you want to put here then so which desk was this again which one was this hang on the reporting table um okay okay let's get some what's the little one showing us the little one might be showing that there's a bit of a need for crime reporting or whatever earl thompson you can go into there there we go so i've got one person great make sure all of your desks have somebody assigned okeydoke can we get rid of the hiring screen i don't want that there i just want to assign some people okay so right that's the reporting table so click on that composite table um okay right now we need a desk man okay so do we need that oh look there's a person with a heart that's nice so we need to hire a desk man compositor typesetter copy editor that was compositing wasn't it um yeah stephen griffin you hang on hang on hang on hang on six three four this person's got an extra point john thompson there has seven points in total steven's only got six three four five six seven just had to check there yeah let's get john and he's way cheaper okay this is good and he's good at compositing which is exactly what we want okay so you go to that you can just drag and drop them from the thing that is brilliant um okay so over here copy editing okay right now we need somebody to copy edit um who is good at that um either of these people you're a bit cheaper harold can we just put you straight in okay yep you go straight in and then over here type setting desk uh type setting is that middle one there you're not very good at it so in comes mr griffin into there marvelous okay right so we've got some basic things in we've got and you've got one reporter though which seems a little bit weird can we not have like more people doing reporting can we not have hang on hang on hang on just gonna go slightly against what the game is telling us here where were those reportee desk things supporting desks no not there um accessories oh that's what we need for the thing hang on a minute hang on decor utility storage oh where were they where are they useful they're these desks we want to get like a reporting desk because i don't know where that is oh there's all sorts of other fancy desks um oh basic production there we go so a reporting table can we just pop that in there can we get another person in because we have got four reporters and i kind of feel like one of them is doing some work and the other ones are just i don't know what they're doing just sitting around drinking coffee no doubt um yeah let's get some entertainment news shall we let's put robert white into there there we go right so you can go into there and now we need to place a typewriter okay we did see that hang on where was that there accessories okay place a typewriter where where would you like me to place the typewriter over there right okay this is wonderfully it tells you where to put these things yep okay pop a typewriter down that's a good thing and then report on the news okay that seems a sensible thing to do given that we are you know a newspaper and such okay oh look that we've got i think possibly possibly we can uh we can tone this down a bit i think maybe we don't need to order quite so much stuff i think we have plenty in reserve oh hang on there's no light over there nobody can see over here um hang on let's get a uh there we go lighting and get in let's put a desk lamp on this one because that'll look all sorts of moody and exciting won't it um let's pop it uh and i put it there for now there we go so that is all very well this is all good okay right so report on the news can you help me to do this please game because i'm not entirely sure let's find some news okey doke go to the globe okay here is a globe right okay else we're not getting local news we're not looking at local kind of new york goings-on we're looking really far afield okay so washington okay new york senator's wife struck at home okay rumor or trick okay not entirely sure what we do with this hang on that seems can we do something else cooperatives buy corn okay is that that exciting i don't know um golf opened ten thousand dollars up for grabs okay that sounds exciting um or oh here we go here's the new york news okay um i think yeah let's get some new york news given that that's where we are three people killed my goodness robbers boxing or woman in jackson heights my goodness me um how about three people killed by a gas leak oh my goodness all robbers robbers torture victim goodness me this is all sorts of terrible isn't it um okay right so we have two people that are okay at crime okay hang on a minute so what do we do here do we drag you in and drag you in so we need to have requires level three crime and we've got a level two and a level one okay does that mean we're okay to go report on this crime i'm not 100 sure um okay right how do we the game has sort of left us to this and i'm a little bit confused as to what we do with this um i mean yeah okay click to click to sort can we can we can we make go make go attend make happen go go and do do the journalism anybody not entirely sure or we can go and investigate we can attend or we can investigate however investigating looks even harder okay um boxing boxing at columbia university okay oh we could do that stephen newton could do that um yeah okay how about we just drop you in oh there we go right so we didn't have enough points last time but now we've got enough points that's all fine okay yeah let's confirm what's that hungry um yeah bladder nutrition was fine it's bladder and comfort okay do we need to put some chairs down do people want to have a little sit down that might be quite nice um okay hang on how are we doing with this thing how are we doing with this um have we have we done what we wanted to do yet have we finished doing the thing like how do we type set whatever it was how do we do this stuff copy editing desk make it make it happen make make us do that thing then how do we do that do we need to hand them something do we need to drag and drop something or is this an automated process um hang on go there again every reporter brings back a report brings back a report back home okay the reports then get edited right there is somebody sat out ah here we go look that report has come in right there we go they've just put something on that desk right so they're now editing the article so the reporter has gone look i've reported on whatever it was that we did boxing or something um right this person is needing the loo and is a bit uncomfortable hang on a second hang on do we have a lovely comfortable chair we have a restroom that's fine do we have chairs um not entirely sure that we have chairs of any kind it'd be nice if we could have some lovely chairs oh a water cooler a coffee machine is there no sort of tea making facilities um coffee machine and a canteen table when we could hang on what's that doing add a new floor for 864. is that all yes absolutely make that happen oh my goodness right and then how about um a door could go oh hang on hang on stairs that's what we want right so yeah some stairs leading up to this floor um yeah so pop the pop that there there we go so the stairs can oh look at that the stairs sort of click into place okay that's very exciting um and then then up here can we right let's move i'm going to put some more lighting in and search yeah so move that up here and move that oh hang on hang on we can't move this can we i assume we can't move can we move that uh no no no we can't it has to be connected to the rest of this big machine okay that's fine right so there we'll put those up there and then let's get a canteen table let's put two of those over there so people can have a nice sit down and we'll put a water cooler just there so people can go and have a gossip and then we will put in begrudgingly a coffee machine my goodness me goodness me that's that's very elaborate that's got all sorts of valves and ways to injure yourself okay can we put a sign on this saying you might scold yourself with lots of hot water or whatever um no food ah but we have lots of food in storage so i imagine what they'll do is they will load that up the janitor type folks will load that up with food okay right there we go now you're gonna have a sit down they're having a sit down okay john's having a little sit down hopefully comfort can tick up because you know he's having a nice sit down at the at a table which is all very lovely and we do need some lights and some lights kind of forgot about lights um let's get a small lamp so pop that there's a small lamp over there small lamp over there small lamp over uh there so they can see and then we need some lamps over here as well so a lamp over that and a lamp over that okay wonderful so now we have lamps that's not got any food right now but i'm sure they will sort that out um okay have we processed a text article yet come on folks i don't know how to process a text article how are we looking with this how are we looking um yeah it's kind of telling us what needs to happen but i don't know if it's been done yet or not um yeah there's supposed to be somebody here john is supposed to be here doing the compositing okay you know what let's put time on nice and quick so i don't think people are here right now so hang on are you still editing there was somebody at that table doing something oh hang on hang on hang on plan articles okay something has changed let's design our newspaper oh this is very exciting here you can design your newspaper every page module that's built gives you a page to drag your articles on let's put this item on our newspaper drag this card okay right boxing at columbia university drop it on and there are many many words okay so lots of interesting things about boxing at columbia university now print a newspaper okay should we not have more on it than this should we not go and get another story possibly i kind of feel like maybe we should get into the story that's a little bit limited isn't it um how about this woman in jackson heights she's won a music prize okay that's good however we're not really on board with that are we hang on hang on um investigate that's got level five crime required um ah you've got enough ah robert white has got enough to have a look at what's going on with this gas leak you know what yeah you go and do that um you can investigate or you can attend no go and investigate that's fine you go and do that that's all very good um and then yeah it'd be nice if we could do this because you've got two and you've got two but that kind of yeah your one drops that's fine but yeah we haven't got anybody with three on their own so that doesn't work you've got minus one for crime i quite know why that would be the case um oh yes you three for entertainment and you've only got one why have we only got these people here oh they're the only people with entertainment ah okay right so these two have entertainment okay so we could hire another person or we could just go slightly further afield like over here no we can't report on that five million americans we can't report on that that requires whoa that's a that's a huge big story right there um kansas do we really bothered by what's going on in kansas i'm not sure we're very much struggling with things golf open we can't do and we can't do mountain man carnera makes us debut okay we could do one of these can we get one of those done and the stories are popping up all the time new york senators trick i'm going for that five million americans are unemployed okay yeah we haven't got enough that's eight that's eight of the whatever is the politics points oh my goodness um yeah i don't think we've got in that we've got enough points to do all these things can we can we do something else with these can we hire do we need to hire somebody else i mean al thompson why are you struggling why have you got minus one on crime why would that be the case hang on a minute hang on hang on hiring reporters um oh hang on no no that's hiring where's our that's where we lay out the newspaper that's our delivery planner that's hiring so that shows us people that we can hire in but not people that we already have and that's doing all the building work so i don't quite know how we find a list of employees i don't know do you know what let's hire somebody else let's hire somebody who is very good at one particular thing how about bill brown oh you're very good at politics walter goodman is very good at politics bill brown is very very good at the whole sort of uh whole sort of entertainment thing um i think let's get walter in so in you come walter welcome aboard right can we actually get you on one of these things can we get you doing something um where did we need that that was chrome hang on politics would be over here wouldn't it um yeah you've got five walter's got a plus thing on it for some reason i don't know why but we're gonna go for that so they go you go and do that oh and there's a there's a thing i don't know what this is doing minus 900 i don't know what that was it took something from up here what's that current subscribers oh okay right they didn't like that oh okay okay nevermind i think as well if we don't our we go right so they're working on that so once that thing goes out the middle i imagine it's ready i guess it says in production can we make it in production slightly quicker although what time is it hang on it's like 1 57 in the morning i imagine people might have gone home so okay is it still in production okay well hang on a minute let's just let's just move time on enough for that thing to sort itself out and then we'll see what we can do maybe oh hang on right time goes by very quickly when you do that that's that's super fast okay right hang on a second that was that was really quick okay so print a newspaper yes please time to roll the presses okay let us start pull the lever we have to pull the lever oh that's very exciting okay right it is printing many many things the daily cupper has got its first edition it's 25 cents friday february 1930 just you know the only friday there was um here we go so boxing at columbia university what's that 91 approval rating possibly reputation plus 16 oh it's gone up ah yes that was on 75. so yeah that would make sense because you know 75 plus 16 is 91. maths with pens okay wonderful and we got some earnings we got 3275 of the monies okay yeah that's good isn't it that seems like a good thing a newspaper stat a great newspaper opinion didn't change however okay so it was a one-page newspaper with three articles more of a new sheet i would say um fairly cheap opinion went up we got some more subscribers okay that is very exciting indeed okay right this is good we really hit that politics itch with our subscribers keep it up okay so they liked the politics okie doke right noted how do we come out of this okay that's exciting and then we go again do it so get subscribers is you know kind of an ongoing goal set up an image production chain work an advertisement or an advertisement however you want to say i think what we'll do first is let's get ourselves let's use some of that money that we just got oh hang on that's broken can we can we fix it can we fix the coffee machine can someone hit the coffee machine with a big hammer please maybe it's just a sign that you should just serve tea instead i don't know um yeah let's get ourselves let's treat ourselves with that money two hang on a minute right so food put another canteen table down because i think that's good they can sit and have a rest and then over here because people are eating and drinking over here we should possibly put some toilet facilities in so let's put in uh a toilet we put a toilet right there and another toilet next door and then a sink on the wall as well very nice and then can we pop a mirror just there oh that's very good i like that that looks very good wonderful and you know what we need a light up of that it's a little bit dark we'll have a wide lamp above that that can cast a wide light over the toilets okay right so the toilets are in we've got some foodie places where you can go and have a little snack and such um everything is everything is looking fabulously well stocked i'm not entirely sure we need any more of this stuff um hang on a minute hang on delivery planner uh yeah i don't know if we necessarily need all that food anymore uh let's bring it down to 50 units on a wednesday of everything and 50 on a saturday of everything i think maybe that's slightly too much oh oh hang on hang on we've run out of cot there's loads of coal hang on don't worry i'll do i'll do the work everybody it's fine what do i pay you a lot for okay there we go let me just load that up oh no there we go okay right where is everybody oh they're all just up here they're all just up here complaining about food and such like sorry everybody sorry right hang on then so let's go and do that again let's get ourselves some more some more things some more stories to make another another newspaper because we've only made one i kind of feel like we need to do a little bit better with that so a musical needs five entertainment my goodness me okay the other thing is i thought if we put all these people in it all adds up to five two four five maybe that's not how it how it works it has to be one person with that okay that seems quite hard to do these all seem quite difficult this is team team requires level five entertainment i thought we would have had that if we add those people in um or just fabricate um okay i mean we could just make up a story we could just do that but then that's lying and that's dishonest and not good at all and washington we've got something about exports but our people are terrible at the economy so never mind um yeah we're pretty terrible at the whole society thing as well um a farm home three economy nobody's very good at the economy hospitals that's a high society thing dallas again that's that's quite difficult to do um dinosaur fossil oh that people are awful oh my goodness me um seattle five thousand dollar paid for vars okay seems a bit much uh politics struggling a bit i mean yeah do we do that yeah again look it's not it's not doing it it says team but i kind of thought that i kind of thought that would be working as a team you know it says team i thought if we put a team on and the numbers added up to five then that would be fine but clearly it does not work like that okay um yeah we're going to struggle here because we haven't got anybody that's skilled enough to do all these exciting things yeah we can't do any of that and we definitely can't do that because we haven't got anybody with a five let's just click to sort i mean can we just can we just throw them in and see if it works on this one no i'm very confused i thought that would have worked i thought we sent two reporters they've got six politics between them that is enough between the pair of them to work out what's going on here but no it doesn't seem that that is that is the way of things okay never mind never mind i kind of feel like i might have missed something because it doesn't seem like we can actually do anything look it requires four click to sword um okay hang on hang on i must have missed something here because otherwise we can't do anything at all like there aren't any level one crime things anywhere i don't quite know how we're supposed to do this so let me just have a look through let me see if i've missed something really really obvious which is very very likely okay so i will admit i'm not entirely sure how we make them go and investigate slightly higher sort of caliber things but i have bought another flaw because i thought this was a good idea let's get some storage because i did notice there was one chappie wandering about with boxes he was wondering about the place and he was just sort of looking a little bit sad and forlorn so i thought if there were storage things they could actually go and put things up here rather than leaving things outside in the street and it gives them a little bit more focus i think now there is somewhere for these things to go they can actually move them about a bit which is very handy indeed now let's have a quick look hang on you dennis brown how are you looking in terms of your stats right so bladder is looking a little bit dodgy nutrition is up however now yes also i have hang on come out of there dennis thank you very much i've put coffee machines on every single floor except this one up here because that's actually quite shiny and nude you know what let's put begrudgingly a coffee machine up there by the door there we go wonderful so if you want to you can come up here put some stuff on some shells and then have a little drinker i mean you know we have coffee from it if you want to i think tea would be the best option but there you go you sort yourself out let's load that up as well let's help out a bit okay so there you go so you are now having a drink of coffee by the look of it i think you've just had a drink it looks like you're doing something yeah i think you are having a drink it's like your nutrition has gone back up which means that is ticking up so comfort is still sort of lacking a little bit um i wonder i wonder if our people are struggling because they're sort of you know their stats are not very good they either are hungry or tired or need the loo or whatever i think maybe that might possibly be the problem so maybe now if we go and have a look at this i will admit being a bit confused oh detective um okay detective trail suspicious car okay we could go undercover for five of those and go and speak to the lobber gang boss in harlem sounds a little bit kind of dangerous and shooty we can investigate with five level sort of five crime levels or we could go and interview people requires level three crime now earl thomas normally has three levels of crime but he doesn't at the moment but yeah if we drag that on it doesn't okay okay a little bit befuddled by the whole thing it looks like you should be able to sort of sort of you know bunch people together because there's four slots down here so you think that would kind of work but it doesn't seem to do that okay right i mean i got distracted last time i will admit by looking at other things and putting down storages and buying coffee machines right hang on let me go and have another look at this and see if i can figure this out you know a second time okay once again i've drawn a complete blank on that so what i think we'll do is let's just deal with the little goals up here and then maybe at some point the game will then say aha now you can combine resources and go and do it that way so work an advertisement let's go and have a look at that we can an extra money by putting ads in okay that sounds very good indeed here's a company that's offering to place an ad click on it so goldberg's bank there's various bits and bobs okay so what are you offering here companies will want your reputation points in exchange for an advert okay that seems fine you'll earn serious money when the ad is done careful though your subscribers might not always appreciate it okay so we might lose some opinion because of course we're throwing ads everywhere okay the same principles apply as with regular news items go ahead and mix and match well i kind of thought we were trying to do that and he wasn't really happy with it that's 1200 money that's 1500 that's a thousand that's 1500 that's 1200 that's two and a half grand oh requires two sports points okay so we're gonna have to get some sports stuff in okay so can we how do we how do we choose you then so um hang on how do we how do we choose you because there's nobody on that side there's nobody there that we can choose from um okay hang on hang on what if we just pick yeah there's nobody in there there's nobody in there oh hang on do we need special advertising people hang on do we need like an advert person um i don't know what that would be not entirely sure hang on analyst sales telegrapher um desk money yeah we've got some of those artists you know what let's let's do this instead let's set up an image production chain we need something to process images let's do it okay so image editing desk okay that seems like a sensible thing to do we'll pop that up here and then we'll put lights in and such like um and we'll need this expensive machine to develop the images okay oh that's big that's big and fancy transferring our images onto metal is done with this machine oh my goodness me we've had to buy a bajillion machines okay now we need some people to work on these things and also we need some lights hang on a second we do like these lights they are very lovely there we go and that one right over there excellent okay so that's all nicely lit so what do we need here then so we need to get ourselves yes image man um okay that's what we've got engraver photo process image editor imagine uh hang on which one's this one there's a pair of scissors ah right okay so you jonathan brown yeah you go straight into there jonathan you go and do picture things and over here there's a whirly thing okay so photo process so you're good at that so you go into there and then the engraver is the final one we've got fortunately they're quite good so pop that into there okay right so now i've got some people up here doing fancy kind of art print things does that help now with the ads no there's nobody on that side i don't fully understand what we're supposed to do this is there supposed to be somebody there i don't know i'm not entirely sure it just says yay brown or edward goodman now we need somebody who's good at sales so randy brown has four in sales he's got a sales value of four however i imagine he is going to need some sort of desk and i think there was like a sales desk somewhere there we go sales desk and where can we put that there's a bit of room over there now so let's pop that just there and then let us go and hire you you can go onto the sales desk okay there we go so now in terms of ads if we say okay i would like um what was it that was a good one wasn't it windsport okay ah there we go right now you can come in that ticks that and then we need level five illustration okay so maybe that's not the one for us that's level six illustration that's level three that's level three hang on hang on how do we get the illustrators where are the illustrators um hang on hang on they must be a different thing that must be entirely entirely different thing hang on a second i'm going to press the wrong button um yeah that's not those artists oh my goodness me right we need these as well crikey's okay um okay this is fine so let's get like an artist desk or whatever the terminology would be where would one of those be okay there's an illustrator desk just there however do we not already have an illustrator desk is that not what those things are up there no they're not they're to do with photographs aren't they okay maybe we don't have an illustrator desk in no i don't think we do okay right so now let's hire one of these people so illustration is the the pencil type things so anthony lewis you seem very good we are certainly hiring quite a lot of people the money is not going up because of course we're not actually we're not selling any newspapers that is broken which is unfortunate i don't quite know how to do that hopefully one of the uh one of the handy folks will get around to that right we need a light that's fine we can put a light in we can we can provide you with with a light that's fine there we go look lovely and lit okay so now in terms of ads can we get this in now so we can say yes please so you and you in your and it's still not quite sorted because we need level five illustration okay right maybe we don't go for wind spore that's level six illustration that's level three illustration do you know what i'd be very happy to just get something working on this okay yes confirm okay so now we have ourselves an advert going in so we need to process a graphic so hopefully this will all be done automatically an artist brings back a photo illustration or map they get edited there then they develop the image this photo processor looks like future technology it is indeed from the future and then they develop okay then they develop the image and then using chemicals lovely chemicals the image is transferred onto a printable metal plate okay that's fine and then they put it down here and do the printing like all other items they end up at the compositor to be marked as ready for printing okey doke right and with you on that that's fine so now we should be able to at some point when we do this there we go so we can have our advert in there now so people aren't going to like that very much because they're going to see that as a selling out to get some money but you know what it's quite important because we're struggling with everything else so it's quite important that we get some money in so um okay back we go to this then because this it still isn't making any sense i still don't fully understand why we can't just do that and that and that work because two plus two of crime in my mind makes four which should sort of be fine so i don't quite know what's going on there floyd bennett field needs five of the social kind of society things yeah we're not quite we're not quite at that point yet are we we're not there um okay never mind right never mind that let's um let's see if we can find any of these other things that might be useful oh i think i know what we're supposed to do we're now supposed to add loads of accessories around the place to make our people better at their jobs is that what we're supposed to do so like we put the typewriter down here on that desk there you go the important desk that does you know the stuff um yeah there's an article planner just here so where does that go it goes over here look because it tells you so if we put that in the middle that means that that station there has been improved so anybody using it can use the article planner and their life is better okay bulletin board oh oh this is wonderful right hang on hang on maybe we just need loads of these oh look it adds plus one to i plus one to everything okay yeah do that because that means that people down there are becoming better at all their things um okay yep a chalkboard you'll put one of those there that's exciting um and put one of those uh there that'll do bulletin ball can go over that desk as well oh this is very good this is very good do we need do we need some more desks for the reporters because the reporters don't all have desks hang on how much is it to buy new floor yeah it's fine let's get a new floor okay right hang on let's set this up so let's get the uh let's get the lovely stairs in let's have the stairs going that way yeah that'll do pop the stairs oh that's not kind of worked does it hang on a second hang on there is a bit where it works there we go right and then let's move all of the reporters up onto this floor here this can be the reporting floor it's very important it's very reported things happen on this floor okay so pop that uh yeah put that in the middle there that's very good okay so that means anybody using those things is better and now if we just get some more of those desks which were which desk was this there are so many things right reporting tables that's it so reporting table and a reporting table okay so now yeah hang on so yeah those people are assigned they're not so let's assign i know you to it because why not and you can go on to that one and then we'll have another reporting table over there and yet we need lights and stuff in here we should have lots of lovely lights going on right hang on no not that i like those lamps so let's get the lovely sort of art deco lamp things because they look very nice i like that light everything up so people can see so this is the nice reporting floor um also yeah there were some nice hang on were there trash cans this is good that made people happy with those people seem to be a little bit happier with the fact they can you know chuck stuff in the bin um and then he has a cleaning station as well do we want to put that somewhere down here now just drop that in oh hang on that requires a person to be assigned ah oh okay yeah this is fine um dennis you can go there you can be assigned to the cleaning station you can go and clean some stuff that's all wonderful right and then yes we need to put these things everywhere now just to make them better at their jobs there's a tool rack and a workbench there's all sorts of exciting things there's loads of things here coat hangers a crime board oh oh i see so we can make people better at specific things desk pencils oh this is wonderful okay so what yeah i don't know who needs desk pencils who would like some pencils anybody just giving them stuff they go everybody have accessories yep that helped them out a bit that was a good thing um anybody else want pencils don't think it helps them or not but it's fine telephone joe what yeah have a phone why not you have a phone i see so you need to figure out different types of desk so you need to say right okay this is the sports desk okay yeah now i don't know what you're good at you're good at politics do we have anything that can help with politics a politics bookcase okay let's put that there then yay for politics you can go read about it um yeah who's good at crime who's good not good at crime who's good at reporting on crime not who's good at crow that's entertainment hang on can we get ourselves an entertainmenty thing it makes that any better yeah this has got to be what we do um there's an entertainment bookcase but i can't fit it in um crime plus three chrome hang on a minute hang on can we give you the crime board it's massive the crime board is huge okay so now with that done can we go and report on some things okay new city schools um we need a level three analyst and we need a level five society okay we're not quite there yet we're not quite there what about veteran man killed there we go you can go and do this oh my goodness we can actually go and have some news imagine that a newspaper printing news more than once a month that's crazy talk okay and you not quite ready floyd bennett field that was one we just saw was it hang on so that's photography so we could do that we can get the photograph side of things sorted but we can't do anything else because we haven't got robert up to five with society okay there must be a way that we can do that there must be a way hang on hang on where does where does robert sit um oh hang on there's nobody actually assigned to that uh walter you go and sit there that's fine right um where are uh robert okay so robert sits here so can we find something for that middle desk that increases society hang on a minute hang on which one is society that one the society bookcase would do it but there is no room there is no room for that thing to go anywhere so i think what we might do is let's pick that up put that there we will have the society bookcase next door to his desk so that's all very exciting and then we'll get another one of those as well hang on so that was just a regular kind of bulletin board wasn't it so if we put that down in the middle like that oh look the many arrows just did a thing there it that must be good many arrows doing a thing that's got that's got to be positive okay so now now can we see can he do that now which one was it that one um he's got he only got three oh bother why is that is it because he's not near other people oh we had four before now it's gone down to three i thought we just helped out i thought we just helped robert out a bit by giving him more society but no he seems to have got less bother there we go i think we might have done it so he's got his bookcase and he's got a bulletin board and he's got a chalkboard thing nearby and he has a telephone on his desk like a ye oldie telephone where you call the operator first and that kind of stuff so i think now we should be able to go over here and have a look at this yes finally we can do it okay right i see what's going on there and i imagine as time goes on people get better at certain things you know they level up in certain skills or whatever um yes absolutely go and do an interview please go and do that because that means that we can then get ourselves another newspaper out there so once that is done done on monday april yeah it's taking us two months it's taking us quite a long time to uh to get this sorted but it will be fine so here we go just wait for that to be done hang on we can start laying out the um laying out the newspaper call me so um yeah let's get veteran man killed in park car that can be the top thing and then floyd bennett field grows from sand waste that can go in there so reporting in production okay so now we just need to run time on until both of those things are finished which is going to take a little while by the look of it so we'll just sort of wait for the spinny things to not be spinning anymore okay we've waited a little while and the spinny things are still spinning however i do notice a bit of a problem a lot of the coffee machines are broken three of them are broken so i imagine people are not getting their coffee fix anymore so let's get ourselves a little area where we can have some sort of maintenance sort of maintenance bench or whatever um the only thing is we might have to put it on another floor and i'm not entirely sure we can we can do that right now can we afford another floor 1492. it's probably fine i'm sure it'll be okay oh now we need to put the stairs and everything else in okay right hopefully this will be nice and cheap right so stairs um yeah pop the stairs there drop the stairs in okay so we've got five grand left this this is all fine and then yeah there were various bits and bobs in utilities weren't there so yeah there was a tool rack and a work bench okay so i don't quite know what the workbench does but there's a tool rack as well that goes above it that makes things better okay right so this is going to be somebody fixing things so mechanic oh okay right we don't have a oh hang on hang on we've not got anybody hang on a minute hang on uh hiring hiring nobody to hire in the entire game anymore okay we've hired all the people oh that's unfortunate i was kind of hoping that we could that we could hire a mechanic okay right what we might have to do is then just replace the coffee machines they seem to have malfunctioned somewhat shoddy shoddy workmanship okay never mind they're quite cheap to do so let's just put those back in nice and quick okay so we have mixed news here so good news the newspaper is ready to go bad news a lot of our wonderful news place is falling apart quite rapidly so yes we saw the coffee machines they all fell apart so they got replaced but now that light that light and that light are broken so they've just given up you know the bulbs have gone i'm sure it'll be fine let's just get a newspaper underway shall we because we don't have one yet so there you go set and go away go our news articles there we go right so printing machine does they're printing and okay not overly popular 81 81 reputation so it's gone down a bit because i guess we put an advert in okay that's fine right so okay let's have a look did we make money right thankfully we did make quite a chunk of money which is very good indeed so there we go so we made a bit of money and we got some more subscribers i think which is very good a great newspaper opinion didn't change yeah we've got 3 100 more subscribers okay that is very good we hit the crime mitch with our subscribers keep it up okay so it's a bit crime heavy possibly um yeah now we've done that can we can we hire a maintenance person can we hire a mechanic no it doesn't look like we can might just have to possibly just you know repair all these things manually because everything is broken so okay fine let's just go and replace the lights oh the lights are in i didn't notice this here i've kind of skipped past the decor thing every time i mean the clock might be quite useful the clock looks like it ups everybody's sort of stats on pretty much everything okay that's quite a good thing can we have lots of clocks please because that's going to be really handy if that makes us people better at their jobs that's very very useful indeed okay so what we'll do is i'd like to get to that goal there i'd like to try and get to 25 000 subscribers this might take a little while because of course we have got to go and do all this stuff but i'd like to think we can probably muddle through with that now so if we got anybody that can do analyst stuff no i don't think we have an analyst okay so let's not do that kind of thing we might have to send people slightly further afield for our next lot of news but this is all fine there we go that's what we have to do we have to get the improvements with all the various bits and bobs with the phones and the boards and everything else now that makes a bit more sense okay game you could have possibly given us a little bit of help there but they go cheating at cat show oh my goodness me we need our best person there's robert white absolutely away you go you go and sort that out and um oh we just sent robert white away to go look at the cat show now we've got riots possibly slightly more important but okay never mind um right we can't do much about that um boston university swimmers score um yeah okay oh hang on you're quite good at the crime side of things so you go in there and do that why can we not go and do that one why have we not got that going um okay attend editorial okay i think maybe that one's gone a bit that might have gone a bit weird oh did it go away did that go away that might have just finished okay hang on a minute this is all fine this is all fine right we can't there's limited news and we can't do any of it okay what we'll do is we'll wait until we have another newspaper i'm just determined to get to that now i want to get to the 25 000 subscribers okay there we go so our third newspaper has gone out and of course the lead story was cheating at the cat show we can't have that kind of thing going unnoticed so there we go america we've let you know that some people are cheating at cat shows very important so what's this done for us we got quite a bit of money from that that was very welcome indeed and we did get another 3 601 subscribers which is very nice entertainment absolutely it was wonderful and there we go so that's that done now the only thing is our little tower thing here is completely falling apart everything is breaking and we can't hire any people to go and sort it out because we can't hire mechanics or janitors or anybody else in fact we can't hire anything and um also there is no news the news has gone there is no more news so i suspect what's happened is we've kind of gone past the end of the demo or something and we've not achieved this goal quite yet and the game doesn't know what to do because there's no news available it's kind of slowly slowly drifted away it's become less and less relevant and now we have nothing to report on so we have this entire building of people set up reporters with phones and clocks and boards and bookcases and these people here these sort of art people i mean this chappie here is just itchy look his foot's tapping his foot is tapping he's itching to use his dangerous chemicals everybody else just you know sort of sitting about not really doing anything these lights here are completely on the fritz they're just sort of flickering on and off i mean yeah there's nothing there is nothing for us to do and i've been checking this thinking okay is anything else going to appear but but no nothing else is appearing so i suspect i suspect we've kind of reached the end of the demo i mean we didn't quite get to that goal unfortunately but um but yes the world has become a quite peaceful place a quite peaceful completely uneventful place where nothing is happening or you can flick through different regions by the way that's quite exciting but um yeah so nothing is happening so we might kind of have to we might have to wrap things up just because there is nothing to report on anymore which i suppose is worth reporting on in a way maybe we should have a whole newspaper thing saying world stops being interesting nothing to report on anymore i don't know but there we go so that i think brings us to a close with news tower but you know what that is very interesting i like that i do like the whole sort of tower building bit and the people management bit i mean yes okay maybe a little bit of the interface and stuff does need a tiny bit of sort of a tiny bit of assistance with it particularly with the tutorial that appears in the demo as well because um because yeah i didn't know you could put these things around to help boost their stats i wasn't really sure about that at all so you know it was a little bit confusing and the fact that you can have multiple people on one sort of uh one news item or whatever and their numbers don't add up i kind of thought that was what was happening with that so yeah maybe just make it a bit clearer that you can't add up their sort of crime stats or whatever it has to be one single reporter that meets that particular sort of reporting goal so you know if it says they need crime of seven it has to be one person with a crime of seven but um but yeah other than that i think this could be very interesting i think we will come back to this when it goes into either early access or whatever full release i don't know when it goes into another version that is not the demo i think we will come back to this because when it's polished up a bit and when you know when we can hire more people when we can actually get in somebody to go and fix all the stuff we can get a mechanic to go and you know fix all the lights and change the light bulbs and then the coffee machines all that kind of stuff when we can actually get everything up and running and as we like it i think this could be very very interesting i think this has got a lot of potential so um so yes we will absolutely be coming back to this but uh but yes for now we'll leave it it just needs a little bit of you know it needs a little bit of a just a little bit of polish and shine but yeah that's not to say that it's not already very good you know for a demo this is very good indeed it just needs a little bit of assistance i think with you know trying to help us understand some of the more sort of refined in-game mechanics and what have you and also being able to say a list of staff would be quite useful although that probably is on a button somewhere i've just not found it that's quite likely as well but uh but yes we should come back to this at some point in the future but we
