pocket just yet that would come later outside of the office they only hung on mom's kitchen wall but eventually they found a home away from home and Dad's car if Dad did have one before you remember how bulky these bad boys were they were colossal in comparison to today's pocket-sized smartphones the car phone literally looked like a brick and it captured signal from the large antenna sticking out from the car roof because of its size they commanded attention from passengers and from other cars on the road that being said they didn't come cheap owning a car phone meant you were raking in the big bucks which pretty much Justified the need for one and these wonders of communication were typically installed permanently in vehicles it may seem like a far cry from the portability of the smartphones of today but hey it was about as portable as portable gets back then they were especially popular among business Executives politicians and other influential figures who needed to stay connected while on the move car phones were even seen as a status symbol the smell of success followed you wherever your car went obviously car phones could only do so much compared to today's smartphones making and receiving calls was their only purpose and they were often equipped with a rotary dial or later a keypad forget about texting browsing the internet or scrolling through social and grandfather to Electric starters to start an engine with a crank handle you needed skill strength and a certain level of finesse it was not a task for the faint of heart you need to grab the handle and put it into the front of the engine making sure to lock it in place then you have to turn the crank handle in a clockwise motion as you turn it you could feel the resistance building until a mighty Roar erupted from the engine at this point the engine is alive ready to carry you on your adventures you had to be careful though because a missed time turn could lead to painful backlashes or even injuries and let's not forget the occasional Kickback when the engine would backfire and send the handle spinning back towards you but they were the standard method of starting an engine and
