Dam Ving Mar on the [Applause] for match it's the racing that takes us Chris crossing the Hills of Lindberg hello and a very on welcome to highlights of the Amel cold race the 58th edition of the biggest one day classic in the Netherlands starting in Mast and heading to ber onter blade plenty going on start as always directing operations two-time winner kovski there naron who's on fire at the minute UA Emirates who can't stop winning whatever team they put out and Mato jensson back but look who else is back the rainbow bands on the back of matcha F deck all in white today even the white short a beautiful sunny day for it not quite as warm as yesterday when almost 20,000 amateur Riders tackled the parkour this one reaching kilomet zero flag waved and I can tell you there were four Riders who would get in a breakaway not the first attacks all going though Ben Healey on the podium last year now the Irish Champion CH to ride against this time but there is a Juan Uso and of course the mentioned mvdp mechanical issue for f pool earlier on but he remained as calm as ever another day another rainbow bike his dad got round yesterday and three F the pool was one of those riding the amateur version Sun looking to win the pros for a second time issues early on though and an early crash I'm afraid this is what it looked like as they were just leaving mastri Bob jungle's getting away with it a couple of riders hitting ground however including Juan Uso a little banged up the Spaniard Jo almea was with him oh and that did not look good for do 23.6 km in total 33 climbs to be taken on and plenty of Loops towards the end most of the racing taking place within 10 square kilometers of each other they're left and right all day long so much going on and this is the part of the parkour that they've already risen I can tell you towards today they've just gone over Hill number 18 heading now towards the CBA and the calber for the first time then they got the onto local laps but those local laps change in this race several times final climb in this race will be the B of be at the front of the race TSH Vander enzel ler Alexander Hayek and Zeb kein they represent four different teams visma Lisa bike in the Breakaway today they're the home team the big name team Hannah Walkers with me Rob hatch on this beautiful sunny day now these Riders here had just under five minutes of a maximum Gap earlier on today they're now down to around a minute and a half a minute 40 Gap they're riding pretty well but I don't think we can expect them to be a feature in the finale today it's well controlled behind isn't it it's very well controlled behind and I think I was quite surprised to see that vimal Lisa could put a rider up in the front to be honest I think it's a really interesting proposition to have Vander there because in my opinion they come with two race favorites in TSH bonut and Mato Jorgenson you've got to race it from the front and because of the narrow nature of some of these roads and how stressful it can be you can easily be caught out and consequently you're left without strength in numbers within the race and behind doing the work EF education easy post who are here today to support Ben Healey who is second last year but he's not their only possible winner because what a team they have Richard gapas is here Miguel Honore work really well in the week Marine fber grow fantastically well in the bra Appel they're also not the only team interested in controlling things look at this bahin left hand side for poob B Israel Premier Tech of several big Riders ala in theing not only with mat V theol because AEL Lance is here they've got a really good strong team Quinton Hermon to S and Crow it's any body's race this today head of the race caught all and one group at the front of the arm gold 74 km to go the Trek having a couple of riders come down from altitude for this and get ready there's Julian B now who's been racing throughout the spring wel mmer in their team as well today was an exciting rider for the Dutch fans now we've got our next move and this is getting interesting sudar quickstep they don't have a team full of big names here Al AIP notably absent no Ilan Fon Wilder either but they're going on the attack and it's one of their Riders who doesn't get too many opportunities to do too much for himself look at [Applause] this started his career did faka with opportunities since become a domestic he's taken Stewart with him now K want to get involved next move may be developing it's contan Pas it's all the similar sort of category of varieties not the the leaders the winners just going and making these sort of proxy moves and making the other teams chase them with 60 km to go there's no Breakaway out front it is all together and Lis vak is going again sudal quickstep without the pressure on them are trying to make something of this pedal Stroke by pedal stroke a little bit of a gap here this Trio now out of sight always a key moment it's on this course I don't want to say out of sight out of mind CU it certainly won't be out of the mind of those in the The Paton well a little more mobile these three than the other three looking on from the field there for Fara looks around the spectators had a bit more horsepower though didn't they I was just going to say well it's uh a sport for everybody everyone can enjoy change here Hanah change here Louis verva has been dropped from the Breakaway and now this is Honore R themselves I think in trouble here aren't they especially now that they're in the side and they've lost one Rider arguably it wouldn't have been when you see that they never really had over half a minute it's always been kept well within reach two teams have always been up towards the front especially with Alpa Cinder Kink and so it was always going to be a a big stretch the American cemetery a reminder of more somber and worrying times in this part of the world city of marri was liberated by the US in 1944 8 seconds is the gap that's all but this is where for and we've got a move here we've got a move here at the front education easy pose for the Olympic Champion Richard kapaz naturally being followed by fod paol Jorgenson's there pitcocks there it was while the cameras were away gazing at other things and kapaz with Healey in this group as well making it a really strong looking race now for EF education easy post because Honore is still 10 seconds up the road two Riders here at the front Honore and laa but they've got Riders on the way to join them and big name Riders this time too this is RO Adria Bal and hii and behind bil bow has joined the group of Chasers with Matel jerson and it looked as though Kap was trying to get across too oh this race endless entertainment we no idea which way it's going yet they're about to turn onto the fromberg this is the beauty because now at this point in the other than EF education easy post everyone only has one Rider represented honor ra performing admirably today Kap pass's group looks as though it's just been caught there's been another move off the front by rder from Theos grenadiers going through the Orchards and the vines heading up the fromberg and this is the situation behind again another attack goes this is Von seon the unmistakable style of Von seon I mean he moves so much on the bike you could see him from the space station if he attacked never mind the helicopter camera now look around here from Matthews it has kapaz on his wheel Bill Bal on a pool scal m is further back as his pitock K of now Bill Bal moves the problem that Michael Matthews has in this position and I think he's playing this one right he's the only Rider from jco alula In This Very reduced Paton he's got to be very very very careful where he uses his efforts he really needs to pick and choose wisely and so for him if he perhaps doesn't see vandero going or pitcock he knows that be up towards the front be on the front be reactive but he can't follow everything bit coock has made a move he's on the wheel of Bot and he's made that stealth move really over and we're now heading to the hardest climb in the whole race 22 % maximum he's going to join this group with berod what an intriguing look this race is taking on but it could be all change again given what's coming up now this next climb it is hellish as the curtain B and it's the last climb for 10ks after this here we go 30 seconds back to the peltin from these two less than 10 seconds now is here she's pulling on the prow Adria is moving across and this group is going to all be together and we're going to have more than 10 Riders up the front now Bill B's in the group there's a collection of stars here and pidcock getting there away from those chasing is huge news but not in the yellow jersey for the home team Vis M Lisa bik and he's really pulling things along now you're talking gradients of over 20% on this hill and it goes on carries on a a real long false flat over the top when you're already out of it pitcocks looking good isn't it he's moving across the Gap and there are some Riders who are failing to cope with this but not is coping with it better than others and look at for not fighting his bike fighting himself so much energy through that bike just look at the look down there how quickly it rises this is a horrible Hill the fact that pincock was able to get across to these three riders with such speed on those steep gradients there these types of roads and especially this climb in particular it reminds me very much of of where he's from in in Yorkshire these leg sapping draining roads where it doesn't relent and even over the top once you think you're onto a flat piece of road it still continues to grind and you can see he's now the main player here it just brings a big surprise to me that Vander Paul isn't here curber carries on fiar just biing his time on the back of this group there there's pasia in front of him vula in the red French national champion is of course madas Adria goes across in the green he's on the back of the group now and interesting too that laa still has something else to give wind blowing from the right hand side here a look behind from petcock and it still carries on it's interminable headwind as well just making it that bit harder over the top of the curtain bed let's have a look behind it's quite the Gap though now oh it's a mighty Gap now there's a move but is there enough it's stopped start there's not enough bodies to control things ful still in this group behind and again maybe he knows that he has a planned point where he can make it across but it's getting a pretty long Gap to Bridge already this now Hannah it's also who will be willing to let you go because there's still so much Firepower within this reduced Paton and many teams and Riders have someone to to nullify this big moment in this race now 45 seconds coming into the second and final Ascend of the calberg for the attackers 12 Riders at the front here she Honore pitock benot with for Adria M lap V madas Pas and bilau it's hii and La here onto the first slopes right at the front and trying to steal a March roared on by the faithful in the Cathedral of limberg cycling the calbeck scale mza goes they're not happy with mmer up there and now the race is alive again turns will want to chase him K is being positioned by the injured but battler the real batt D goon then you've got [Applause] Matthews f is there an EF education easy B have several Riders fondom Berg is still there and we all know what he can do in a fast finish wow now that's good we saw my fom be active towards the top keep your eye on this because Mor fenberg is a dangerous Sprinter and it looks as though he's following in this group with kapaz Honore still hanging on behind and kabaz is making a big move at the front seeing what's happening F the bird's looking good Healey is here as well they have the numbers here do EF education easy B but now with Honore just off the back they are committing and now Pitcock starts to make the running on the climb Bill B's on his wheel here she always felt that he has a race L like this in him doesn't he and but note Wy old folks next group are about to get now to Mikel Honore does he have something left to give for his team here 27 seconds and they're giving each other a right good kicking at the front towards the top of the this is the penultimate classified climb of the day what we remind you that last little bit of road that comes up to the kilometer to go it's a narrow road it rises oh they going to get there together because Bill b St to show a sign of weakness now they really are committing now for they because Richard carapaz taking everyone out with a bead on there he's Absolut sh head V kaba's the Olympic champion H sat they still got he as well I'm doing the a Miss service that wasn't carap pass at all came from a little further back they can all see each other on this road now it's 7 seconds from first group to Second it's 38 seconds from first group to pelan everyone's committed they've all made their moves cards have been played who's got the ace Remer Pitcock has unfinished business with this race second in a photo finish that you couldn't see from the eye whether he won or lost third lash here as well we're coming to our 33rd and final climb second group on the road 11 seconds behind the four leaders and here they are in the yellow bot in the blue his compatriot for the two belgians then you have Pitcock the Brit and here she the Swiss national champion and this is the beber final climb of this amstell gold race the 58th Edition of the Netherlands Premier one day race behind we've got a move and it looks as though it might well be [Applause] laa not keen not happy to work together because the cohesion is gone and laa continuing his recent excellent form there's pasia there's a lot of Tire legs in that chasing group no wonder they've been riding for almost 250 km now well over 3,000 300 M climbed and now Bill ba decides he has to go because nadas is making his move mmer will follow this is a good result whatever happens for young Roa and lapa's there but instead of all working together it's ones and twos and laa is getting across there here we go Tom Pitcock makes his move does not want laa to come back and Tom pitock not waiting for his Sprint he could well be the fastest man in this group but he's not hanging him out to fight out Tom pitock with 5 a half km to go over the top of the beam of the be has attacked in the Amel gold race it's not looking enough to get away but what he's doing is he's putting so much hurt onto the other Riders they're having to extend themselves so much just to try and bring him back that it's taken the sting out of their legs and yes whilst of that quart he was going to be the fastest if it came down to a Sprint he doesn't want to leave it by chance this race isn't over and we know from pre previous editions that anything can happen on this narrow road that because ever a slightly false flat uphill to the final 900 M of this race but what's happened behind o and that is the man they want to win the race with Deary me all of that work and Marin fenberg he's gone into the barriers now what' you do because you can't have you got enough time to try and bring him back at this point do they drop everyone back to bring him back through and then totally take yourself out of out of the frame dear me that's a real blow to his team the games have started at the front the games have begun but no there was on the front looking around nobody was coming through and this is where they can gain time quickly behind not is winding it up here and he's the one who if he goes will who will chase him does he have it go though after that big chase back on I think he just needs to be patient here it's almost play that card of I've just had to make a big effort here to get back on I'm I'm suffering I've not got the legs and just take this moment to to recover and start to almost reset yourself reather yourself before making one big move because if he makes one move it's got to be an all or nothing it there's no 70% attack here we've had one attack from pitcock now we got to move from ber Bern's there can't for not Clos the wheel Thunder the flam Rouge they go 1 km to go left turn now they're into the Finish straight is tbot leading them behind is Mari Von there's hii here's Pitcock make your moves they're all just going to go cat and mouse follow each other at this point and this is the ideal scenario from behind it's what has K got left to deliver madz and look at this as well it's deja vu we' been here before haven't we 400 m now but they do not want to make the same mistake Bill Bal makes his move M goes as well the do stream is alive very faintly behind but here's V not leading it out M vut now with 200 M to go into a headwind Sprint behind him it's pitock on the wheel look out for ber as well in the yellow on the left hand side it's TP on the left hand side in the yellow and T paugh hits the front but here comes poock through the center Tom pockock there and finally the unfinished business is complete achievement unlocked for Tom pidcock who wins the Amel gold at the third time of asking he'd been second in a photo finish that was indecipherable third last year the best of the bunch behind today it's his race Pitcock in Prime position has brought it home and this was the Sprint hanter from behind it was P babau who he left it all on the line he knew it was a elsh attempt if he wanted to get to this quartet up front and it was that moment of lull it was only until Mar vanan sanon started the Sprint TSH bonut and Tom pitock it was a drag race to the line and for Hershey he was coming up with some speed perhaps if heed gone a little bit earlier and really got his Sprint wound up it could have gone the way of the Swiss man the inos graders have won two Road races this is their third Road Race win of the year and so this is also a big factor the pressure's on but pitcock can deliver 13 days ago he couldn't even wait bear after that crash in ulia super Victory embraced and applauded by those closest to him and Tom pitock is the winner of the Amstel gold race congratulations Tom 3 years ago you thought you had won the amst gold race This Time It's For Real what does it mean to you um I was going to say uh yeah it's great to win for the second time but that might might qu create quite some cont controversy but uh oh it feels it feels really good I mean you know the the this year's been so so tough this start of the year made big sacrifices and uh been uh away from home so much so now to to finally put it together get get the hands in the air it means it means a lot and this race I've I always love racing and it uh yeah it's pretty special what is it about D M that you that you love so much I don't know I think I always just do a good race here and um yeah I mean today the team the team uh fully behind me quato is is going really well but he fully committed to me and um yet to be able to repay them it's really special so two weeks ago you fell in uh in B country now you win the Amer gold race um what does it mean for the upcoming Classics yeah yeah for sure I mean now the now the pressure's off it'll just be um yeah we can just go and race and do our best and um yeah dare I say enjoy them probably won't be so enjoyable when we're in it but yeah it's um it's big relief to be honest enjoy this Victory thanks Tom Pitcock wins the Amel gold race finally ahead of maresi and TI Mar up fourth PA with a very good fifth place mmer pasia bilau and Matthews complete the top 10 Tom pitock is the first British man to win the Amel gold race a winner in the brael a winner in the T of an up pill stage in the algar Str ban and over a year passed before he could raise his arms again Tom pitock has stood in every place in the podium at this race finally gets to stand on the top step you can see the pride on Tom pidcock's face here you know you see him when he's perhaps not performed the way he wants to he's a real winner he he knows what he wants he really targets well you can just see the Delight what a day it's been out in the fields of the am gold race from Hannah Walker from me Rob hatch thanks for joining us
