[Music] hello everybody it's me scoop and Skinnamarink is absolutely insane Skidamarink is hard to even classify as a movie I I almost don't even want to call it a movie I just don't have a better word for it it's really more of like one of those early 2000s internet try not to watch horror Challenger I guess try to watch horror Challenge and honestly I'm here for that man so I watched it with like five of my friends a few nights ago and you know for most of the movie it was it was a little silly a little goofy we were cracking some jokes you know some real quips getting thrown out here and there you know we're a bunch of young whippersnappers that's what we do but eventually the room was pretty silent for like a good chunk of the movie and when the boys stop cracking the jokes you know the movie is making a [ __ ] our pants for real we'd already seen Barbarian we'd seen Sinister I thought we were good man I thought nothing would scare us you know we would be cracking jokes through the worst of it but no skinamarink got us man I was dying during this movie so yeah needless to say skinamarink is a movie watching experience I will not be forgetting anytime soon so I will technically be spoiling this movie however it's there's not really anything to spoil because there's not really a plot which sounds weird to say because usually all I talk about is the problem we're still going to be talking about this movie anyway of course and when this is what is on your screen like 95 of the time I don't think me telling you a rough estimation of what happens is really spoiling it so naturally the question you might think to yourself is you know when you see this footage and know that there's basically no plot or dialogue in the movie like how does this movie work and I I can't really tell you that I'm not gonna lie so I guess the best way I could sum it up is that you're gonna be watching this movie and you're gonna be a little bored at the beginning but you're gonna be so intrigued and want to know where it's going you're going to keep watching and eventually the atmosphere and the spookiness is just gonna get to you and it's just gonna build to a point where you just can't turn it off and you have to see how it ends it just feels like a dark and mysterious fever dream and the thing everyone keeps saying is that it's almost like the director managed to stick a camera in the nightmare of the four-year-old main character director and yeah that really is the best way to describe it it's dark and it's mysterious and you have no comprehension of what's going on just like a four-year-old lost in this situation so because this movie basically doesn't have a plot of characters like I keep saying I'm just gonna break down two of the three main set pieces that we get I mean it is a horror movie we still have like three horror movie Set pieces I'm skipping over one of them just because I don't know I think I might as well leave one of the three open for you to see for the first time on your own and um so yeah if you want to just completely watch the movie Blood that's fine if you have no idea what movie I'm talking about because we're a little far into this video without giving you any idea of what it is well I'm gonna tell you the plot right now essentially what happens is these two children a four-year-old boy named Kevin and a six-year-old girl named Kaylee wake up in the middle of the night to find their mom and their dad are both missing and that things in the house just kind of keep disappearing and reappearing most importantly the doors on the windows so they're kind of Trapped in the house in darkness but their TV did is still playing an old cartoon that's about it it's like an hour and 40 minutes of that and like I said it starts off a little boring but eventually it's just so scary that you're not bored even though nothing is happening so the three set piece moments in the movie are 100 the scariest parts we're gonna be talking about two of those and besides that there's not really anything to discuss Just My overall thoughts director did a phenomenal job this movie was shot on fifteen thousand dollars so the fact I got a theatrical release at all is incredibly impressive and no matter how good the movie is the director needs to be incredibly proud of that so good on you My Buckaroo you done good sir congratulations all right so without further Ado we're going to talk about the first set piece of this movie that I'm gonna title look under the bed essentially what happens is Kaylee the six-year-old sister goes upstairs and finds her dad sitting on the bed staring at a wall yes I did say that things keep appearing and disappearing and the dad I guess is now one of those things that's lovely she goes over to him but he's mostly unresponsive until he says to look under the bed which she does but it's darkest [ __ ] so she she doesn't see anything she comes out back up and the dad is just sitting there so she looks again still sees nothing comes back up again and now the dad is gone but now the mom is on the other side of the bed which is lovely so it's sort of giving you that Blair Witch Project Vibe where you know the people are standing in the corner and even though nothing's really happening you're just like uh uh uh so that that's a lot of the movie but especially in this scene when you just see the mom sitting there when you know she disappeared so like she got [ __ ] up by a demon or something whatever is causing all this mom has clearly seen in his controller her mom speaks fairly cryptically until we get a mysterious jump scare of nothing somehow this movie does that a few times but anyway and Kaylee just goes back downstairs so my boys and I we were so curious what actually jump scared her because like there had to be something there right so like I said this happens a few times each time we've played a back frame by frame and usually we didn't find anything the camera just sort of did and it just kind of cut to the next scene but this time when we played it back frame by frame a black I don't even know if it's a demon hand it might just be like a black like monster crazy black and comes out of the closet and Slams on the wall for like one frame and then that's kind of it so that's that's lovely you love to see that I don't even remember how much time passes between this scene and what I'm about to subscribe but I think they're pretty close together but eventually Kaylee tells Kevin her brother that she doesn't feel well and she goes to sit on the floor after a few seconds of her sitting on the floor we see a close-up of her face and her mouth and one of her eyes are missing so that's cool and then we get a nice jump scare and then she disappears so my friends and I were shooting our pants just a tad until the half face jump scare because like I said you don't really see much in this movie so an actual jump scare like the girl's freaking face popping up really catch you off guard and it was it was a little dramatic in the room at that moment so that was segment number one segment number two we're gonna be skipping over because I want you guys to see that blind that scene is absolutely insane it's easily the best part of the movie and it really is the only segment you could truly spoil so I'm Gonna Leave You blind I'm gonna let you know is it involves phone call a knife and a whole lot of blood so get ready for that and the third segment of the movie is technically the grand finale but it goes on for a very long time so I'm gonna break down like the most important key parts of this and once again freaking scary so by the third set piece all the toys are on the ceiling by now yeah stuff just kind of floats onto the walls and ceilings once in a while I don't know it's a little off-putting but that it just happens in this house and eventually Kevin is summoned upstairs by the terrifying voice in the darkness causing all this he doesn't want to follow the voice obviously but the voice tells him that Kaylee didn't listen to her so he took her mouth and we got a POV shot of Kevin walking up the stairs in the dark a lot of these set pieces use POV shots and it works to a phenomenal effect as Kevin comes upstairs he finds himself on the ceiling walking ludicrously far into a pitch black room you just see the door getting further and further and further away to a point where you're like are we even in the [ __ ] house anymore what's what what's going on here then we get a title card that I really hate this is there are two things in this movie that really bugged me I hate this title card because it says 572 days so that implies Kevin has been trapped in this house for 572 days now why don't I like this well sure I can take that there's a demon making doors and walls and even people appear and disappear in parts of their faces and [ __ ] but having this four-year-old who's now not even a four-year-old he's like I don't know five and a half or depending on his birthday maybe even six by now stuck in this house for like a year and a half just in this pitch black darkness like I don't there was no reason for it like if the movie didn't have that title card nothing changes It just strikes me as incredibly odd but we see all the toys are still on the ceiling and the camera pans out and out and out and we just get a bunch of spooky shots including another angle of unspoiled set piece number two playing on a loop over and over and over and over again and that is just horrifying to think about as well as pictures of people and I think also places like partially the pictures are faded away the people are faded away stuff like that it's a little weird but you know that's that's kind of the not even the theme like of a motif of the movie I don't even know what's called it's just a thing that happens a lot people and things fade in and out then eventually we get into a stare off with a distant spooky face that tells us to go to sleep asks us our name twice and then Fades away before we get a title card that just says the end and the movie immediately ends no credits or nothing so yes while the ending is incredibly scary it feels a little odd to me that this stair off with the face is arguably the scariest part of the movie but it doesn't build to anything it's like raising the tension more and more and more as this face is staring off with you and you know it's talking to you and it starts fading away as if like something even bigger is about to happen but nothing happens it just Fades Who I Am the movie ends and you get kind of intensely blue balled by that like any good comedy has the best joke for last any good horror movie has the best scare for last and it felt like we were right there because I don't see many horror movies actually save the best scare for like the last two seconds of the movie like this is uniquely able to do because uh credits I would have loved if they took full advantage of that and I'm not saying you should have just ended on a jump scare or something but like I don't know they should have thrown a little more nugget in there just to finish off that tension you know really let it release finally in the biggest scare of the film like I keep saying but we get nothing and the movie ends a little bit disappointing so what does this all mean for once I actually titled a video and explanation so while I haven't really broken down the plot in much detail that's because like I said there really is no plot two kids wake up stuff is disappearing evil spirit makes itself known well I'm gonna explain what I think is actually going on in the movie I don't have an explanation that works in all the camera movements and the fact that like there's not a lot of dialogue in it like the way the movie is presented has nothing to do with my theory I think it's just a cool and interesting way to present a movie that takes a lot from analog horror which is very popular on YouTube right now and you know the internet in general but I think I have a theory for like the general setup of the movie which I'm sure is what you're all here for and you're all curious about so let's get to that right now so Theory one you're all gonna like I have two theories I think if you clicked on this video looking for a theory you're gonna go with Theory one you're gonna like it if you're like me and I don't know you were just thinking curious you want to see the whole review and you're staying for the theories thank you for staying so long you might prefer Theory too which is what I personally subscribe to so let's break them down 31 is a little bit more obvious and it basically just states that Kevin died and is being tortured by a demon so we are at the start of the movie that Kevin slept walked and fell down the stairs and hit his head at the opening but he was completely fine he just got some stitches and that's also given in the plot description online that like his sister woke him up while he was sleepwalking or something like that this theory states that well as you can probably guess he died in his sleep or even just on impact or at the hospital something like that and his soul is now trapped in the house so a demon is just using it as a play thing that's the odd line consensus however I'm gonna add a little bit more spice to that from what I saw out of the movie The Demon frequently says it wants to play and it's obviously messing a lot with children's toys so my guess is maybe it was another child at some point who also died too soon and is rageful about the fact it never got a childhood and now in this demon form is torturing someone he sees as a kindred spirit no pun intended into you know recreating a childhood and forcing it to play with him I mean you could think about it having Kaylee look under the bed as a form of peek-a-boo like I said he's messing with all the toys maybe he sees Kevin as his friend there's a lot of stuff going on where it's like not only moving the kids toys around but it's distorting them into this more demon form as if he was trying to use it himself and him you know touching it and trying to play with it is what screwed it up in that way so yeah just another childhood Spirit but you know a rageful one and a demon that wants to get the childhood it never had by holding Kevin's Soul hostage nothing too fancy but it makes the most sense to me and I'm sure if you watch this movie frame by frame there's tons of more evidence for it that I haven't even found so now my personal theory is drum roll please the movie's completely meaningless that might sound negative saying the movie is meaningless but this is actually a compliment and I'm pretty sure this is what the director was intending and I think the fact that the movie's meaningless is actually what makes it so scary the more you explain a monster the less scarier it gets that's what any good horror fan will tell you or any good horror writer but horror fans are naturally curious just do a quick search on YouTube for horror movie explains and you're gonna get thousands of results or just look at Five Nights at Freddy's where there's horror there's mystery and where there's mystery there are fans hunting for answers but how scary is it to think that this is just some horrific meaningless event YouTube could just one day wake up in the middle of the night stuck in the pitch black of your own home alone with no way out and no way to stop this demon from toying with you and you have no idea why it's doing it I mean the director even said the name Skinnamarink is meaningless it just sounds cool and creepy which [ __ ] yeah it does dude like that's a sick ass name so I mean why wouldn't the rest of the movie follow the same principle you know it's just something meant to be meaningless but cool and scary and just a cool watching experience it's almost like a satire of horror but instead of using comedy it's just more horror I mean I think this meaningless theory is what the director was intending but if you think it's a demon child torturing Kevin then you're more than free to subscribe to that idea too so what are my closing thoughts on skinamarink the director did a great job presenting a horror film from the eyes of a four-year-old we don't see much or understand much but we are afraid of the dark and what might be lurking out there it's a brilliant movie but if you find it boring that's pretty valid I don't want to put on my snooty film student glasses but this is definitely not for everybody and that's okay if you want to try this out is the weird horror experiment it's meant to be I don't think you'll be disappointed but if you find it boring then you know it's just not for you and that's totally okay too I'm not giving this movie A score because like you're really gonna try to compare skinamarink to [ __ ] boots The Last Wish or even like Krampus and other horror movie I recently reviewed you just can't man I really don't think I'm gonna be re-watching this anytime soon it really is just more of a horror experience than it is a true movie which I mean I appreciate the fact that it's gotten this much buzz and this much popularity and it's just cool to see something new and different I really appreciate that out of it so thank you all so much for watching I usually don't say this but like And subscribe for more I really would appreciate it we're almost at 200 guys I need like seven more of you to click that button I will be very happy about it please do that thank you very much anyway guys like I said thank you so so so so much for watching and keep it crispy
