this is your CBS news Baltimore afternoon update for April 24th I'm Denise KO WJZ is in your corner with the latest on the keybridge Salvage operation the governor says major progress has been made now weather permitting a fourth channel is set to open by the end of this week Leaders with the unified command say it will allow five ships currently stuck at the Port of Baltimore to leave and three scheduled ships to come in it'll be a limited access channel so to be controlled in terms of which ships and vehicles will coming in we'll have additional supports like tugs that'll be able to support those initial Ships coming in but this will be able to provide some relief to the Port of Baltimore State leaders say the next major Milestone will be to remove the bridge span which is resting on top of the dolly container ship so that it can be refloated well the economic impact of the keybridge collapse is being felt around the world we could see higher prices for goods the Port of Baltimore leads the world in hand Ling as businesses are forced to adapt that includes using other ports and then of course relying more on ground transportation such as trucks to transport their products that workaround could mean higher fees and other costs and WJZ spoke with Brendan hegan the founder and CEO of box zuka an e-commerce and third-party logistics company that helps businesses navigate receiving and delivering Goods right now the costs are being worn by by um by by the shippers and uh by by the importers and and by by all the people that are directly related to the port once they start to understand their costs and how they're changing um it will just it will roll downan says some aspects of the supply chain flow May return When the port's main Channel opens but not fully until after a new bridge is built right now with temporary channels open Maritime traffic is 15% of what it was before the collapse and today the downtown Partnership of Baltimore and MCB real estate are announcing seven new businesses that will be taking over Suites in harborplace it's part of the Boost harborplace local tency program these seven blackowned businesses will operate under a two-year license agreement to occupy space within the shopping center they will be able to use up to $25,000 in grant funding to get the Suites ready for business they'll also get support for technical legal and Zoning permits a formal ribbon cutting ceremony will follow this summer once all the storefronts are ready and that's your afternoon update for CBS news Baltimore I'm Denise KO
