EXCLUSIVE: Disturbing insight on Canada's teen killers | 60 Minutes Australia

for thousands of Australians every year Canada is a wonderful place to visit spectacular and safe but four weeks ago something awful happened there a young Australian tourist Lucas Fowler and his American girlfriend Chyna Dees were murdered days later a Canadian University professor was also killed the attacks were random unprovoked acts of violence and just as disturbing it seems the perpetrators were two teenage boys who then went on the run becoming Canada's most wanted fugitives on Thursday they were finally found dead for the last two weeks Sarah our beau has been with the distressed father of one of the boys as he grapples with these most difficult questions what happened and why it's been the worst of days for so many people most importantly the distraught family and friends of Australian Lucas Fowler his girlfriend Chyna dese and Canadian professor Leonard dick but Alan Sh'ma kelskiy is feeling pain too it hurts a lot he was my only child I never get a hug him again I never get to kiss him again you never get to spend a minute with him again okay a lot of pot of parents know how I feel right now a short time ago he was told that police believe his 18 year old fugitive son brash Miguel ski had been found dead at least I know where he is okay his troubles are over okay his troubles are over I'm so sad that he felt that he had to take this road trip how does it sit with you to know your son will be remembered as a killer not very good not very good at all okay there's no glory in that I wanted my son to be someone amazing and one my son to have a future it's tough to watch but Allen wants to talk we still don't have a clear picture of the circumstances not only is he grieving a lost child he's facing the reality that Breyer and his 19 year old fellow fugitive cam McCloud died as the most hated men in Canada accused of randomly murdering three innocent people there's a lot of things have happened and none of it could I volunteer for okay and none of it could I wish on any other parent for most of the past month brush Miguel schemed can the cloud have been hunted by police manhunt is underway in a small town crews setting up checkpoints as heavily armed officer it's being one of the biggest searches in Canada's history and for much of it we've been with Allen as he's waited for news about his son a lack of solid information combined with a flood of rumor has made for troubling times yeah yeah it's tough but throughout Allen has refused to stop loving or defending his boy I'm not gonna say my son as a murderer until I get some facts okay you want me to sit here and tell you that my son positively murdered your co citizen because I won't because they can't okay I can't do it how do you think you're speaking as a father how do you think the father of these victims oh I just I'm so sorry for what's happened okay whether it's my son or whether it's something else we don't know I have just lost my son I know exactly how you feel the fathers of these like it's palpable you just say that's like it oh I know they hurt I know they're hurt and from our country so the families I am so sorry in many ways Canada is just like Australia a vast land inhabited by easygoing decent people so when news broke that ozzie travel at Lucas Fowler and his girlfriend Chyna Dees had been murdered there was disbelief the couple was found shot dead by the side of a remote highway on July the 15th four days later and four hundred and seventy kilometres away the body of botanist professor Leonard dick was discovered near Dee's lake police suspected it wasn't a tragic coincidence this is very unusual to have two such violent events to happen in in the northern part of our province in such a short period of time the investigation into the murders was immediate and enormous Canadian Mounties Senior Sergeant Janelle Shaw its job was to give the world updates early on her greatest fear was the possibility of more deaths how dangerous are Brier and cam given what we know now I would say that they are very dangerous potentially they could kill again based on the fact that they we believe that they're responsible for three homicides here in British Columbia that that is a real potential so that's why we made the big the public appeal in the first instance that that could be a reality as heavily armed officers searched nearby or they've managed to evade police for days teenage boys wanted the triple moon allons Miguel ski had first heard there was trouble involving Brier soon after professor dicks body was found the car the teens were driving was found here on fire Monday but back then it was thought that two teenagers might be victims themselves it was Monday morning and I was reading the news and there was my kids picture on the front cover of The Vancouver Sun missing that's my phone no Alan had texted his son just days before the teens hit the road without a driver's license breyer was the passenger in Cam's camper van pickup truck he told his father they were heading to the neighboring province of Alberta but then nothing has Breyer tried to contact you no not since he said I'm off Delbert then a few days into the police investigation Breyer and Cam's status changed from missing to wanted if they are spotted do not approach it was awful news for Alan like my heart just sank it just think I I said to myself and there's a mistake here there's gotta be a mistake it was no mistake and soon it became the might of the Mounties versus - albeit dangerous kids but the fugitives proved quick on their feet within days of the murders they'd escaped 1700 kilometers from the crime scene then as we were filming with Alan word of a sighting that's not good a report said police had failed to recognize Breyer and cam at a roadblock and had let them pass through Alan's reaction though uncomfortable for us was perhaps understandable for a tormented father his son appeared to be alive nude boys are smart they're intelligent kudos boys kudos kudos I knew they were still alive so you were happy now are alive and I put that gotten away you just make a little boy I've had to be concerned that he was lost in the woods I've had to be concerned that a bunch of cops are gonna come out and shoot them you have no idea how heartbreaking that is little boys on the run right it doesn't just happen something led up to it and the fact is nobody knows what happened out there we know that this is one of the largest manhunts in Canadian history on two little boys two little boys who are accused of meta accused but we don't know are they capable of murder I can't answer that but do you have kids no your brothers and sisters are they capable of murder you don't know right coming up the end of the manhunts this morning our champey officers located two male bodies now the questions beginning why what did you think of those images it's not good and does this new video explain everything mr. stone first laid bare anyone could ever imagine ever that's next on 60 minutes last year Allen's Miguel ski he bought his son Briar the present oh my son not asked me if I will get him an airsoft gun for Christmas when he was 17 years old I bought him a toy gun so he could play with his French it's called an airsoft rifle but it doesn't look like a toy so the airsoft rifle with its pellets is as close as you can get to a realistic gun to a real gun don't like machine guns and they got a realistic magazine and you can put upwards of 400 pellets in there but they're still just an air compressed built-in air compressor and they just shoot a pellet this is Reba saying the highway like Ellen thought the $600 toy weapon would get his son up off the couch and away from the violent computer games he often played does it concern you that your son wanted to play games with the closest thing to a real gun out there he was getting them out in the woods with his buddies getting them outside right I can't second guess right I'm not gonna say you know it's my fault I'm not gonna do that do you think inadvertently that airsoft rifle may have planted a c4 Brian after TV did after YouTube did after videogames did you can't watch Bugs Bunny and not see elmer fudd with his shotgun right so you can't blame airsoft I never gave him a real gun okay let's put it that way I never gave him a gun that would kill someone the home video was filmed just outside Port Alberni on Vancouver Island it's here we're best friends brush Miguel ski and Ken MacLeod grew up on July 12 they told their families they were leaving town heading north to look for work within days they were wanted for the deaths of three people so what happened and how did these so-called quiet teenagers become suspected killers do you think that they may have been a sight of your son that you weren't familiar with that's a good possibility I'm not gonna rule that out Alan had reconnected with Brian just a couple of years ago in that time Alan struggled with homelessness and mental health he's been angry since his mom moved away with him when he was 5 years old and he had a lot of time with very little attention given to him and I know that he could have had a better upbringing a father's searching for answers about his son must inevitably confront unpleasant home truths growing up Breyer was caught in the middle of a bitter breakup between his parents he moved in with his grandmother and while he kept up his schooling he had learning difficulties he was raised by YouTube and video games that's who raised on YouTube and video games YouTube and video games raised your son yeah less is known about can MacLeod other than he was Breyers best friend and online gaming partner eighteen-year-old ripp Lee Janzen new cam well cam was always just a super cool kid like anytime you like do something hang out he be down like did you ever see it cam and Bryan together oh yeah yeah they're like best friends yeah he seemed to see him around yeah Ripley says he didn't see any behavior from Bryan and cam to make him suspicious but revelations that Bry had threatened a fellow student and the recent online images would Nazi memorabilia suggested trouble it's definitely crazy that's for sure like if you were innocent why would you just come to the police right if my son had been planning this for a long time we don't know but he would have done his homework like Ripley Allen shpigelsky hadn't recently noticed anything unusual about his son other than an increased interest in camping in the bush he's trained in isolation mentally he will not break down he's not going to lose it in the woods and go and go stir crazy in the woods because he's used to being alone this morning at approximately 10:00 a.m. our Sam piastres located two male bodies four days ago four weeks of speculation finally ended when the body is believed to be brash Miguel ski and cam McCloud were discovered in dense bush near the banks of the Nelson River in isolated Manitoba we believe these are the bodies of the two suspects it brought it to a halt the frustrating and costly manhunt by Canadian police and I hope today's announcement can begin to bring some closure as it was fear being realized my worst fear would be for living the rest of my life not knowing where they are having no closure that'd be my worst fear I don't want to be the guy that spend the rest of his life wandering or woods in northern Manitoba that can freeze only child that be alive if they came out and spoke to authoritative I DS fate will never know the answer all I know is they were teenagers teenagers don't always think like mature adults everybody's so quick to judge he was my kid he was little me okay I wasn't there for all those challenges but I've always had him with me that's the only picture I've left from his childhood I got a stuff his son might be dead but for a lunch Miguel ski this is not the end of his search for answers he says he still needs proof before he'll believe Breyer is a killer there's nothing not hurt breaking I can't describe it any better than that okay there's no sunshine there's no
