hello everyone and this is ni Amir with Microsoft Exchange Server 2016 database availability group implementation so let me explain to you first about this live demo or this scenario so scenario is about that you are the messaging administrator for a datum corporation you have completed the basic installation for for Exchange Server 2016 servers now you must complete the configuration so that they are highly available in the first phase of this live demo this is required that you configure your mailbox databases to be highly available and to test if switch over works so let's go and take a look on these four different tasks which we are going to perform the scenario of these four tasks will be like to implement the mailbox server highly available configuration you want to create a dag database availability group and make the mailbox database one a database highly available we will go and work on these four bullets create a dag database availability group create a mailbox database copy in a dag verify successful completion of copying a database suspend resume and moved database copy so we are going to use ADC a domain controller which is a datum comm running on a host computer hostname is lol - DC 1 then we are going to run ex1 and ex2 exchange server 1 and exchange a server 2 so every pc has a name l o n before its last 3 digits but I am going to add those our names of my currently exchange server on the left you see exchange 1 X 1 and on the right you will see X 2 on the bottom I am adding my domain name in case if you want to have PDF steps of this lab you can contact me I can provide you otherwise I will try to explain my best how this scenario works so I am going into my server first this is my l or n - d c1 which is a domain controller and i am showing you my active directory so you can see it is a simple active directory configured for my domain users and also we gonna work on multiple exchange servers if you have seen my some previous videos I'm not sure if I have posted all of them but that is where I have installed exchange server but I will take a look on the list that which video is available so far online so going into my second server which is a member server ello and - ex1 so I am going to login to that server my desktop background will show you also all server names so ello and - x1 is my first exchange server which I am going to use in this lab the second one will be L o n - e x2 that will also be used in my dag environment so I am going to replicate dag between these two servers so this is the environment so far at least for the scenario which I am going to work with so I am going back to my active directory looking at my computer containers where I am going to and a new container advanced a feature has to be enabled for certain reasons you will see later on so under computers you will see my domain members CL 1 X 1 X 2 and L o n - SVR one so I'm not going to use all of them at this time I am using only LOM - ax 1 and L o n - e x 2 I am going to create a new object a computer object DHG one dag one from the security tab [Music] I am adding a group in to this computer object this will be my exchange trusted subsystem group it is a very common simple process to install to add group into any container in your active directory so I am going to also add a computer object for that you have to change the object types and add computers checkbox we are going to add LOM - x1 which is a computer member server also my exchange server so I am going to give a full permission to a x1 and also my exchange group which is my exchange a trusted sub a system group so one by one find them allow full control all right so I am going to allow full control to both objects which we have added or both containers or both one is a group one is a computer so once we do that we can click on apply or you can click okay there's no difference between applying and clicking on ok we are going to now keep our new container disabled we just have created this container and we will use in this lab series for certain purpose but simply I am going to click on disable this container and say yes once we do that we can close our active directory and we can go back to over Exchange Server ello and - ex1 where we are going to use our exchange management console through URL I am switching back to lol - ex1 at my taskbar you might not be able to see very clearly but actually you are able to you can click on ie Internet Explorer and the URL which I have saved already under my history we can use HTTP colon forward slash forward slash L o n - e X 1.8 datum comm /e C P that is right there so then you will see I have saved my username and password so I can login directly just sign in in case you are logging in the first time you might want to see your time zone or language option so you have to choose at your choice so this is our exchange console through the URL now we can go on the left side under servers then top right side you can see servers database database availability groups virtual directories certificates we are actually working on all of these tabs one by one but in this lab we're gonna work on two tabs approximately database availability group which I am clicking on now n databases but you always can browse around and take a look now we are going to create a new dag this will be d hg 1 witness directory we will use first we're gonna use witness server ello and - dc1 then we're gonna use a witness directory C colon backslash f SW dag one with the IP address one seventy 2.16 dot zero dot thirty three so you can click on by P fill now so this is the way you can create a new database availability group now we can click add sign the plus sign on the right side and say so this is our deck one so now we can many the membership of the bag one you can click on the plus sign on the left side for the new or you can click on this manage deck membership icon [Music] you are going to add both servers which you have on the left side and the right side the named of these servers l o n - X 1 and L o n - e X 2 so you can click on ok.now and we can save it so saving this might take a little time but I won't let you watch everything so I gonna pause and we'll come back whenever is necessary now we are going to save once we are done we are going to move on to create a database copy section this is completed in the real-life environment you might have to wait for approximately three minutes we are going to now create a database copy so we have to refresh first if we don't refresh we will not see this add option so mailbox database one we are going to add a copy to ex2 this is the order number two right from there we just gonna take a look on this section and save it we don't have to make any change here yes I have you the setting on the right side so this also is a procedure where you can see the status healthy so you have to wait approximately five minutes for this process I'm going to show you this right now this screen then I will go in close and then I will come back once it is updated okay now we have a database it is failed now but let me refresh it and come back the state is supposed to be healthy now he refresh it took me about five to seven minutes actually now you will see the status is healthy and also contact index state is healthy so we are good all right so now we can just cancel it and we are moving back to I am on ex1 right now so we are going back to L n - e ex and - so we're going to be keep switching between these two exchange servers so we are going to use now exchange a management shell where we are going to test a replication health that is my first command and this is my output for replication health so you can now see a small pop-up in here that if anything fails because we don't have H a available highly availability right now for those databases at this time and we are going to also check check mailbox and database copy status this is my second command you can just type here and check it out and look at the result so this is my second command ok so these two commands are done just look at briefly with this small note and switch back to L or M dash VX one we are going to actually suspend and resume the database just take a look on the database so we are going to do like a mailbox database someone backslash elleven - x - yes gonna suspend it so when you suspend the database copy suspended the suspended means that it will not receive any updates so just put something about the test so we are testing this one just for a learning purposes that we are not going to receive any updates but we can continue to resume this and we can refresh and responds with a yes if you see any warning but we can resume we can suspend database we can resume database it depends the environment but here just to take it as a learning environment so just say yes to the warning and we want to make sure that the mailbox database one is mounted on l1 - ex2 so if you don't see that you can refresh it you always look at the detail at the right side so this process would take approximately three minutes in real life when you do it but I can go ahead and refresh or I can pause and continue say yes to the warning so this process possibility takes again a little time because I am going to actually pause and go oh it so you gotta refresh and the mounted column is fourth column under the status you can see database is mounted and which database is basically active on what server that is the column number two on the middle pane you can see that one and you can read the details on the right side so active and mounted copy queue length is zero there soon database is healthy now database is mounted on a x2 and mounted column is right over here so if it takes more time you simply have to wait or you have to refresh it so now we refreshed it and make sure that it is saying mounted so now we are going to ensure that the database copies content indexes are healthy so that is the last part we are going to quickly check just to wrap up this section so it is healthy we are done so I hope that you liked this section here but we will continue with next part of this section so we have done a few things here in this lab after completing this exercise we have actually pre staged a cluster Network object in Active Directory domain services created a database availability group dag added to mailbox servers to the deck hello and - ex1 and ello and - ex2 and made a database highly available so we have also suspended a database copy and resumed it to see the result and we talked about that so here we have few more topics coming up so these are not part of my this section so I will come back if I have not posted those one I will come back for this part and we will actually do this all manually so I will have several parts of this exchange server 2016 series so wait and keep watching I will see you in my next video thank you for watching bye
