I'm getting ready to do a demonstration of evgo Auto charge Plus in the Volvo xc40 recharge before I do so I just want to go over there with some recent software updates if you're not aware there is over the air updates available through the Volvo xc40 recharge that does multiple different things it changes the Google in-dash system and it also can alter the drivetrain and charging curve for the battery Management Systems but a pretty big update I've we've had this car for um let's see almost two years now a little bit over two years Let's see we got it in November 2021 so yeah we're approaching two years with version 2.9 the big deal is that Apple Maps now plays in the driver in the driver display I'll show you how that looks in just a second um there is also a um well it says drivetrain optimization stability I don't see where it mentions it but on the center console you could see right down here it says range that didn't used to be there it was just battery when we first got the Volvo xc40 recharge really all there was was this battery there wasn't anything that indicated what your range was later on they added this range assist widget apparently there was enough backlash from customers that they felt necessary to add that and that value is what they transposed in over here with what with uh what is left and it's not bad it's more of a general estimate it doesn't click down by Miles it clicks down by like tens of miles or 20 of miles so it's more of a general estimate still keeping in line with the um Behavior of trying to present to the driver a more streamlined less complicated amount of instrumentation similar to what you see with a gas full or empty meter so it's still nice to be able to see how many miles you have so as you're going down the road you at least can see okay well it's this far to my destination and I generally have this number of miles left that's kind of nice okay so I got our destination loaded in the Apple Maps before the center console only had the Android auto built into the driver display and if you try to use your Apple carplay Maps this little black screen would go this little screen here would go black but they updated in that new version and now when you press go together to Food Lion directions oh the center console is adjusted to more of an apple map style and you can't have it on both the center console and the drivers console if you wish or you could adjust the center console to be more of the widget style where there's multiple different pieces of information in order to have your now playing available your calendar and also your map I kind of like that style so anyway Volvo keeps improving this and it's definitely nice to see the over-the-ear updates coming [Music] the evgo auto charge plus program is a part of the CCS standard and the way it works is each Vehicle Manufacturer needs to choose a network in which they're going to allow the auto charge feature to be active in for instance Ford and Volkswagen have Auto charge active with Electrify America the GM cars and Volvo have evgo where their Auto charge is active with and what it provides is something similar to the Tesla Supercharger experience where you could just pull up to a charger plug in you don't even have to interact with the screen no credit cards uh no RFID swipes nothing whatsoever now I do have an evgo RFID Card that I keep in the car just in case for some reason Auto charge plus doesn't work but there hasn't been a single time since I've registered this car where Auto charge plus hasn't worked so let's go give it a try thank you so that's all there is to it after the CCS standard finished negotiating with the car a session was established and started to dispense electricity I mentioned in my volvox C40 recharge owners review video that the center console display does not show how many kilowatts you're currently receiving that is true but only for AC charging or level 2 Charging with a DC fast charging session you do get how many kilowatts are being received right here which is all fine and good but I find that when I'm out and about doing level 2 Charging at one place or another normally I'm only doing DC fast charging on road trips it'd be nice to know how much that AC charger is dispensing and the only way of figuring that out was is with a kind of an aloof calculation associated with the miles per hour you have to kind of guesstimate how many kilowatts you're currently receiving off your AC truck charger but really not that big of a deal anyway Auto charge plus completed successfully it works with the American DC fast charging Network evgo and the Volvo electric cars of which there is the C40 recharge the xc40 recharge the ex90 coming up shortly and the much anticipated ex30 something new as of this year evgo has different tiers of membership okay as you go if you go basic evgo plus and evgo plus Max there's also time of day rating for the kilowatt hour charges this table shows it so feel free to pause one cool thing about this location uh it has a Tesla connector so there's been a lot of talk about the North American charging standard and here is one on an evgo station now I understand if you look very closely it says DC chatimo it's kind of worn out because of the Sun I understand what that is is actually a long cable and just a chatomo adapter so it only provides 50 kilowatts and evgo is working on getting North American charging standard cables on their stations natively instead of using a chatimo adapter anyway thought I'd point that out [Music]
