Guild War's 2 lack of handholding in what you attempt to do can often dissuade players after reaching level 80. succinct informative video tbh

I skipped some part but i didn't see the most funny things that this game can offer, the rollerbeetle races and the griffon master adventures even if i suck in both

guild wars 2 has a lot of content so much so that it can be very difficult to actually know what to do with that in mind this video will serve to alleviate this problem it's a brief overview of the main content the game has to offer vaguely in the order you're likely to encounter it as part of your new player experience you'll also see a rough estimation of which stage of the game each activity is present in how intense they are and what types of goals they'll help you accomplish i'll also be talking about what each area of the game has to offer in terms of general rewards and explaining why you might want to get into certain content for progression purposes or simply something that you might enjoy let's get into it and start off with what guild wars 2 is perhaps most well known for open world open world is the core of guild wars 2 and constitutes the normal questing experience that you'll likely find comparable to other mmos it's a bit more open-ended with a lot of content based around exploration particularly in the lower levels higher level content typically has more structure to it centralized around big meta events on timers culminating in massive boss fights in general the heart of thorns maps are very boss focused whereas path of fire is more in the direction of exploration however both expansions have a mixture the free-to-play game is about halfway in between with almost every map having some kind of mega boss and a lot of general quests story elements and exploration a lot of the free-to-play content is a bit more relaxed and aimed at newer players so if you don't find it engaging then just go straight to the expansion content the core game also features a lot of platforming challenges in the form of jumping puzzles and map completion and also a few mini dungeons too so there's more to open world than meets the eye expansion maps have a few of these things too including quite a few fiendish ones but not quite as much the open world is a great place to start off your guild wars 2 journey and get a grip on how the basics of the game work and later on unlock your elite specializations which are subclasses hopping on board world boss trains and farming specific maps is also the entry level access point for gold farming in the game with some of the best gold per hour being efficient open world gameplay next up is the story guild wars 2 is a heavily storage of an experience with a lot of the development time of the game going into creating a rich narrative game environment soaking up the atmosphere of the game is definitely worth doing and just like open world doubles as an introduction to simple instanced content where you'll have to fend for yourself instead of running around in a huge swarm playing through the story of the core game and expansions will guide you through the world and provide some direction as you progress through more intense open world environments which can be helpful to get your bearings as many new players to guild wars 2 can be confused as to what exactly to do next and the story will point you in the right direction the story of guild wars 2 is divided into two sections campaign and living world campaigns are the main content of an expansion and living story is a continuation of that story in an episodic format if you weren't around when these episodes were released you'll have to grab them in the gem store for a low price bear in mind you can use gold here not just real money these living world episodes typically unlock extra content and rewards to go after such as unique skins gear and open world maps themselves to farm moving on we arrive at achievements and collections for the completionists out there guild wars 2 has enough for you to waste a ridiculous amount of time on every area of the game is covered in achievements for doing just about everything from exploring maps to killing 250 000 players in world versus world these achievements increase your glorious achievement point count which will eventually unlock prestigious titles account bonuses and even gems many achievements on their own also have titles unique skins utility items and so on attached to them so it's not just about increasing numbers bundled into the achievement system is the collection system collections are a type of achievement that are pretty much long form quests that usually have special rewards at the end like rare cosmetics legendary items legendary components or unlocking various in-game features like crafting recipes secret gardens or even some of the most useful mounts collections exist in every game mode and are also a great source of purpose guild wars 2 progression is very much horizontal not vertical so a lot of end game progression is tied into chasing down shiny items or items that make your gameplay more convenient or efficient legendary gear is a great example of this each game mode has a bunch of legendary items to go after and the power of legendary game is from being able to change the stats to anything you want anytime making it trivial to play whatever you want whenever you want we have now arrived at one of the biggest memes in guild wars 2 dungeons as you level up through the game you'll get mail from npcs about dungeons now dungeons are a bit of an interesting thing in guild wars 2 as they pretty much got abandoned on launch replaced now by fractals which we'll get into next however dungeons actually form a big part of the core free-to-play game story and i'd highly recommend playing through them while playing through the core game as they are a pretty interesting type of content and feature huge non-linear environments to explore the content itself is a little dated by modern guild wars 2 standards but there'll be a decent challenge as a new player while also showing you some context on what's happening in the main storyline and of course some introductory group play dungeons also feature an explorable mode after beating the story mode which was the original form of end game pve more challenging and focused on lore and side stories explorable dungeons are actually a great gold form if you can do them efficiently they also give a bunch of early late game gear so if you're looking for a few items to get into the full-on end game they can be a solid option to get started dungeons and guild wars 2 are a bit different to other mmos they are heavily focused around movement rather than bosses and doing dungeons efficiently revolves around traversing the large maps quickly using your party's full kit of stealth teleportations jumping and other such skills where one game mode falls another rises and that is of course the replacement for dungeons fractals fractals are the bread and butter of five-man max level instance content in guild wars 2. if you've played world of warcraft you've seen this before blizzard borrowed fractals and renamed it mythic plus but we've been at it here since 2012. fractals are short and have a mixture of movement trash mobs mini-games and bosses very much bite-sized content and are typically done daily each day there are three daily fractals to complete for great rewards including a lot of gold crafting materials and a chance at best in slot gear if you are never lucky and don't get any drops don't worry playing fractals rewards you with currencies that can be built up over time to grab gear instead fractals have a scaling difficulty system starting from level 1 going all the way up to level 100 getting harder as the levels progress but of course so do the rewards you have to level up your own personal fractal level one at a time to get into the tougher fractals but someone can actually open high level fractals and you can join however unless you know what you're doing i don't recommend that if end game pve is your thing then fractals will be a core component of your daily routine providing some of the best gold and gearing opportunities in the game certain freckles can even be farmed 24 7 for big money if you can handle the grind a few fractals also have a hard mode which is again farmable daily for even more rewards however it is worth noting that you'll probably want the expansions to play these as most of the builds used to clear this content requires access to elite specializations only available in the expansions something that a lot of mmos neglect is pvp mmos are not typically known for their pvp gameplay guild wars 2 is a little different though thanks to its more action-focused combat system player versus player takes the form of conquest a game mode involving capturing and holding three nodes and contesting various secondary objectives this provides an excellent balance of map awareness strategy and of course combat the game ends up being easy to learn but very hard to master because of this and to play effectively you'll need to be on point in your mastery of the combat system and of your giant wrinkly brain the depth of the game mode prevents it from getting too stale as long as a redneck remembered to actually make some balance patches the three main types of player versus player are unranked ranked and automated tournaments ranked is limited to solo and duo queue for fairness unranked as a free-for-all clown fiesta and automated tournaments are scheduled events every three hours requiring you to sign up with a full team of five as you might expect unranked is the entry point followed by ranked culminating in tournament play you need to get to pvp rank 20 before playing ranked but tournaments are actually always open so get stuck in if you want to player versus player is actually extremely rewarding in guild wars 2 you can get best in slot gear huge amounts of gold from ranked or tournaments and even unique cosmetics exclusive to winning massive monthly tournaments you have some control of what rewards you get from pvp too and you can select reward tracks from pretty much everywhere in the world allowing you to farm the open world or even dungeons without ever setting foot in them albeit slower than actually playing the content you also don't need to be max level or have any gear to start pvping as stats are standardized for an even playing field and a very low barrier to entry you can get stuck in as early as level 3. while in pvp you'll have instant access to all skills and abilities without unlocking them in pve so you just set up your build and away you go as a side effect of this player versus player is a great way to try out different professions without actually leveling them too not satisfied with just open world pve arenanet added open world pvp to guild wars 2 world vs world it involves open world maps that have objectives like towers and keeps that to be captured and held for the glory of your server world versus world is the only area of the game where your server matters as you'll battle players from two other servers that you're matched against anything from huge battles with over a hundred players to small skirmishes or 1v1 jewels can happen here and it's the complete wild west so watch out for gankers world versus world can be pretty brutal so be ready for a fight at all times in terms of rewards you'll be noticing a theme by now you can get yourself crafting materials best in slot gear and various cosmetics from world versus world where world versus world does fall down a bit is liquid gold you don't get much of that but the rewards are very passive just dripping in every five minutes meaning you just do your thing and get rewarded over time as opposed to having to actually chase anything down specifically one versus world rewards are also a bit sneaky allowing you to save money or time in other game modes like unlocking elite specializations without playing open world grabbing some transmutation charges to change your gears appearance or even extreme end game optimization in the form of stat infusions little upgrade items that give you a small boost to stats across all of your gear just like pvp you can also select a reward track that contains items from all over the game so if playing open world without being able to kill players who look at you funny isn't to your taste world versus world is a great way to avoid that you use your normal gear in world versus world so i wouldn't recommend playing the game mode until you have decent gear and are at max level additionally the mata is heavily skewed in favor of elite specializations so for most world versus world gameplay you'll want to have the expansions there are a few core builds that can be effective but the real good stuff is in path of fire and heart of thorns those are all of the main game modes for the free to play core game but there are a few activities that are limited to the expansions so let's take a look at those bear in mind that everything mentioned for the core game is also relevant if you do have the expansions content in guild wars 2 never becomes obsolete because of the absence of vertical progression the most recent addition to the game and indeed the most entry level are the dragon response missions they are a form of replayable story that scales to the number of players you have and also has difficulty settings so they can range from solo casual story content all the way up to some entry-level group content they are part of the living world so you'll need access to the ice brood saga to play them the missions themselves are a blend of story and open world with the start of the missions being reminiscent of open world events and then finishing off with a boss of sorts on normal mode these bosses are fairly easy but on challenger mode they can actually be quite tricky requiring a decent bit of execution to get done smoothly they're an excellent introduction to end game pve mechanics dragon response missions are a great place to pick up skills useful in the end game such as learning the different roles of damage dealer support crowd control basic group composition and how to handle large groups of enemies without dying yourself while you're at it you'll be farming up tyrion defense seals which can be converted into cosmetic items or valuable materials yet another game mode introduced in the episodic living world are strike missions strike missions are your entrance to full-sized instance content requiring 10 players and consisting of pure boss fight action they are about the same intensity as fractals but are extremely quick fire taking around three to five minutes to complete just like dragon response missions they are a part of the icebrood saga storyline in guild wars 2 and give you a flavor of what the infamous raids of guild wars might be like the rewards are a bit weird but because of how quick they are to complete they are rather good granting a bunch of materials and a few currencies that allow you to work towards best in slot gear beating the bosses faster also rewards you so they're a good measure of how good your dps is finally strikes have daily rewards and a weekly reward chest which gives bonus rewards when opened for each unique strike completed that week strikes are a great way to start your 10 man instanced career and find out what types of compositions and skill sets like standing on top of each other will be required for the hardest content speaking of the hardest content last of all are raids just like in other mmos raids are the ultimate pve end game requiring 10 players and solid coordination along with an understanding of the boss mechanics to complete although they are the hardest pve content in the game they are surprisingly accessible you can just rock up to raids whenever you want no special requirements on being level 80. this is a brilliant way to get splattered as a new player but if you're familiar with raid content from other games and you have a good team around you it's definitely an option raids are on a weekly lockout meaning you can loot each boss once a week they can drop a wide range of unique skins gear minis gold semi-valuable items to sell and even a few special fun gizmos like a throne to sit on or a portal usable by anyone not just mesmers raids also happen to be the source for the original and most elaborate legendary armor sets which are fully animated and quite fancy while not the best gold per hour the amount of best in slot gear you might grab for a full clear of raids is pretty much unparalleled if you need gear to finish up your main try a new build or get a second character up and running then raids are the place to be most raid bosses are a pretty significant step up from anything except challenge mode fractals and will test veteran players going in without a game plan is an easy way to get hard stuck if that's not enough for you many bosses have a challenge mode as well cranking up the boss to another level and often adding new mechanics and increasing the difficulty of existing ones before trying out raids i'd recommend being confident in your profession knowing what your buttons do having some great gear and being able to easily clear pretty much everything else in the game ah that's not all for raids though raids take place in incredible environments with lots of tasty lawn nuggets tangential to the main storyline of guild wars 2 and are some of the best produced content in the game some raids although mostly linear are of the same scale as an open world map most content within raids is very boss focused with a few little puzzles or trash mobs between encounters to set the scene or hint at mechanics but there is a very low amount of downtime in raids much like the rest of the game so action is always around the corner with those final details on raids behind us that concludes this content guide for guild wars 2 in its current form arena love to add more game modes so i'm sure this might need to get remade at some point in the future this list wasn't even totally exhaustive as there are a bunch of niche activities such as mount races and of course player created game modes like guild vs guild death match so bear that in mind as well guild wars 2 really has an insane amount of activities to offer and you're almost certain to find something that you like and the inherent accessibility and quality of life of the game makes it very easy to try out anything whenever you choose to if you have any questions about any of the game modes or activities then drop a comment or hop on my community discord and we'll get any query sorted out in double quicktime you can also catch me and the crew streaming the entirety of guild wars 2 on twitch nearly every day so if you want to have your mind expanded before your very eyes then definitely get in on the action thanks for watching subscribe for more and i'll see you next time
