[Music] who else really really wants to live in San fransokyo vibrant neon colors up turn to go to style structures weird floating blimp lantern thingies wind turbines see that's what I love about Japan even their energy sources are brightly lit and cutesy some expectation subversion right off the bat you thought you were getting Pacific Rim more like Rock'em Sock'em Hiro prepare your bot zero zing two BOTS enter one bot leaves now with less Tina Turner superhero landing saving your little brother you graduated high school in your 13x position there's no stopping me optimism book on parenting probably honesty is that wreck-it Ralph and an original NES remote extremely happy to see not one but two women with equally diverse scientific based intelligence styles I'm just impressed that neither of them are Tadashi's girlfriend everything in its place I feel your pain wasabi I truly do ha get it dragons breathe fire and is that spyro or Shenron honey lemon Go Go wasabi you may or may not know that this film is actually based on a short run Marvel comic by the same name it's a pretty loose adaptation but something that does carry over are the names and some interesting interpretations of powers go go for instance turns into a ball of energy and moves really fast which is why she's the speedy one by night I am also a school mascot all right we need a lazy stoner type high school dropout looking kid what's TJ Miller doing looks like a walking marshmallow compliments callaghan's laws of robotics that's right here's something James Cromwell is a voice of robert callaghan he also voices dr. Lanning and I Robot another genius inventor in the robotics field anti Zefram Cochrane from Star Trek where he's also a genius scientist all right I really just like Star Trek ooh montage fake-out but of course an inventing microbots montage is the fastest way to get into a Technical Institute relax heat'll honey-lemon is using the proper japanese pronunciation of hero's name and she tries her best to spread the knowledge is that Doc Brown I know it's a cartoon and this type of tech is probably far off slash not ever going to be quite this sophisticated but the microbots are an awesome bit of imagine technology secret handshake shadowing yella heads in there someone has to help courage well it wouldn't be Disney if the main characters closest Guardian family member didn't die tragically but this line someone has to help is a win Tadashi was still willing to risk his life for Callaghan so that self-sacrifice San Francisco look in town but complete with Japanese cherry blossom trees trying to cheer up a friend hello I am baymax you've gotta love baymax he's the comic relief and drama center of this film all in one you have fallen observation winds ow on a scale of 1 now on a skate on a skate now on escape persistence so I'm starting to realize that the other Disney and Marvel properties references are at an all-time high in this film particularly wreck-it Ralph they may have gone a tad overboard but the majority of them are hidden well enough not to be too distracting so one win for all the rest of them using time for a young adolescent flowering into manhood flowering into manhood that is all find out where it's trying to go would that stabilize your pubescent mood swings huh absolutely granting requests lifts hugging I am NOT fast super jazzed on Scott Adsit you really blew me away with his performance as baymax only person who could have maybe done better would have been alan tudyk but i guess what do you mean he's already in this movie that's right he's gray man he did it again saving your new friend hopefulness I will scan you now scan complete healthcare battery glitch equals inebriated hiccups well played we jumped out a window and the low battery dilemma is so well executed hilarious whether you get the analogy or not more hugging man there's a lot of hugging in this movie like lots and lots of hugging I have some concerns constructive criticism what people do sometimes when they're pumped up but no secret handshake lessons a matrix style downloading martial arts to your brain training montage is the fastest way to get gummy bears always wait one hour after eating before swimming swimming safety lessons appropriate reaction where we stopped Phil is read obeying traffic signals we're under attack from a super villain people I mean how cool is BAM I mean it's scary obviously fool Fred is able to make these meta comic book jokes because there are no superpower people in this universe just super smart people wouldn't be in America Japan mashup film without little street racing especially handbrake drifting so we know there's lots of hugging I'm also learning that when baymax isn't hugging someone he's saving hitos life as far as creepy fiji villains go the kabuki mask and trenchcoat get the job done saving all your friends welcome to Mikasa that's French for front door it's really nice foreign language lessons our origin story begins we're gonna be a becoming superheroes montage is the fastest way to becoming superheroes your neurotransmitter levels are rising steadily the treatment is working no happiness so they took Iron Man and toothless and made flying a whole new bunch of awesome but only does superhero poses transport of matter into contain easily through space Allen will never truly understand how you can be the best at portraying a soft-spoken character like Sonny a crazy megalomaniac like King candy and then arrogant to like krei better than the rest we picked up a slight irregularity in the magnetic containment field huh no no problem it's well within the parameters quality villain setup we don't know much about Crais all we know is that Callaghan claims he cuts corners but this may have been the one and only time he does that unfortunately it ends in the assumed death of callaghan's daughter so Callahan's motivations are pretty solid and believable ingenuity see this is what happens when you don't work as a team and don't have a plan BAE Hulk max do it mass destroy him but holy cow is this some tough subject matter I give them some serious credit for going there baymax just got a whole lot less huggable and that's what you get for trying to kill people [Music] and guess who our composer is go ahead guess the fact that his score comes up in every video I do for a movie he's composed have done the music for at this point it's time henry jackman is always a win first class winter soldier monsters vs. aliens one of my underrated favorites Civil War Kingsman I'm gonna watch every movie he scores from now on just to hear his work saving the bad guy open your accent is this what Tadashi wanted it doesn't matter this is a scene coming together baymax is one level line delivery the building score the pain you can feel in hero's heart I can't watch this scene without my eyes burning a little then leads into the video recordings of Tadashi's baymax test for a little relief more happiness foregiveness the microbots respond to brainwaves so when he doe was in control of them they were flowing elegant even a little industrial when Callaghan is in control they looked like evil tentacles or spider legs using around very threatening Lee another well-put-together action set piece everyone thinking their way to their problems and listening to Tadashi's advice that hero is finally embraced look for a new angle raise the doors make your way around the problem another superhero landing seriously where's Deadpool when you need him for a quality slow clap ending this action set piece above the clouds as it were makes for such a unique aesthetic back kick my pants roundhouse staying cool under pressure merci she's alive in there someone has to help call back with even more meaning packed into it holy insanely beautiful colors Pandora what are you satisfied with your care please no I can't lose you too Hiro I will always be with you self-sacrifice heart-wrenching self-sacrifice and a beautiful call back to baymax's reassurance about Tadashi still being here now the baymax himself has become important to hito and as cheesy as this might feel they've actually been building towards this since the first fist bump I am baymax hello Hiro baymax is alive I wear them front I wear them back Stan Lee cameo offers up some fatherly acceptance and finally a chance to be a full-fledged superhero the man deserves it and even more hugging big hero six takes a more traditional comic book story full of superpower people and turns it into a human story with intelligence ingenuity and some scientific skills the only real superpowers some suspension of disbelief is required but coming from the supernatural comic characters they're based on it's a pretty big departure and a welcomed twist on a typical narrative at this point and while I love a good punching the main problem-solving technique in this film was right from Tadashi look for another angle again using their brains instead of match even when they're suited up they're still human I can't cut a perfect circle can you that happens to me every time TJ Miller and Damon Wayans Jr were inspired choices following her then all you get you got that too Maya Rudolph is cast also has some really funny moments you're gonna feel these things tomorrow look Scott Adsit smart own voice work as baymax takes the cake Harry baby and the physical comedy of baymax had me smiling the entire film as you'd expect with a superhero origin story there's plenty of tense action fun chase scenes and PG violence Disney also knows how to create some beautiful imagery especially when creating a world like this from scratch American typography with Japanese styling the final battle in particular is stunning and obviously Disney never fails to get us to feel some emotion even though they use the old standby death they also create some character drama that goes beyond the typical friendship building baymax lands somewhere between friend brother sidekick and parent especially on your face chest armpits and thank you that's enough he's a character that's sort of teetering on the line of artificial intelligence you could make the argument that the only reason he engages in anything he doe wants him to do is because he's trying to fulfill his programming as a health care robot and that's something that most films don't deal with baymax tries to cure Hiro's emotional injuries it actually becomes the main focus of the film and the impetus for baymax to keep going he doe tries to satiate his sadness with a revenge and it isn't until he's reminded of his brother's last words that he learns the truth that only forgiveness can quell his pain and that's what's most important about baymax is consciousness the presence of his creator Tadashi that's what finally breaks through to hero Tadashi was there all along his ideals and values personified in baymax Tadashi's less words are important on the surface someone has to help but when you unpack it a little it gets even more meaningful but also a little harder to swallow simply put doing the right thing doesn't always work out life and death aren't always fair Tadashi went into the fire to save a man that ended up being the villain his death may feel meaningless but his sacrifice changed Cheetohs life it took him a minute to realize it but in the end he tourist his own life for someone he doesn't know but also for the villain that's a strong message of forgiveness even for people who don't deserve it or didn't even ask for it powerful stuff one thing I did find bizarre about this film is the lack of Marvel branding it's a Marvel comic Stan Lee is in it it's about a superhero team there's a post-credits scene just strange is it because they knew I'd ask for big hero 6 to be an infinity war why can't San fransokyo exist in the MCU Hulk ripping cherry blossom trees out of the ground Tony Stark making fun of a Maxis suit we already have a portal to another dimension and I'm not saying thinness is hiding behind that cloud right there but I'm also not not saying that now that is a play power of the Sun with the ancient amulet they found in the Attic mm-hmm the amulet is green it's probably an emerald
