Is there any reason for the similarity between Warhammer and Warcraft/Starcraft?
Most people know Warhammer 40k from the table top, video games, memes, etc. I quite enjoyed the novels, where the whole universe's lore really shines.
Some personal favorites of mine:
The Eisenhorn Series- Probably my favorite. About an inquisitor who starts off well intention yet finds himself having to bend the inquisition's rules and his own morals more and more as the series progresses. It has a very film noir detective feel to it.
Commissar Cain Series- Commissars have the authority to execute any imperial guardsman on the spot should they show cowardliness in battle. Cain on the other hand is widely regarded as caring for his troops. In reality, he is a bit of a selfish coward. What some mistake as him wanting to be near his men in battle is just him trying to put as many meat shields between him and danger. The universe is still very grim dark, but Commissar Cain manages to interject comedy into the story.
Gaunt's Ghosts Series- The quintessential Imperial Guard Series. Way more grim dark than Cain. People die, a lot. Planets too. Being a normal human in the 40k universe sucks, and Gaunt's Ghosts best illustrates why that is.
Ultramarines Novel Series- Ultramarines are the most basic, middle of the road Space Marines. If you want to know what it's like to be one and their role in the universe, this series is for you. The different books are a grand tour of many enemy factions as well. Want to know just what happens when a Tyranid splinter fleet sets it's sights on devouring a whole solar system? Read Warriors of Ultramar to find out.
40k is wild. Definitely nightmare fuel. All the races are fucked, except the Gundam fucks.
It's a small thing, but it bugged me that he got the lore wrong in the first two minutes. The Emperor has been entombed on the Golden Throne for ten thousand years, not one hundred, as stated in that first quote.
Damn I wasn't aware how much Warhammer straight up copied ideas from Dune.
But I guess basically every SciFi universe after Dune copied ideas from Dune.
TIL Warhammer 40k and Total War: Warhammer are 2 vastly different games.
Being a fan of the genre, can anyone recommend which warhammer(s) title to start with on steam as a newbie?
*Added better grammar.
Tried watching some Warhammer 40K lore videos on YT but every single one just falls into the poorly written fan fic shit trap. Feels like a bunch of people constantly trying to outdo the next person in a gore e-peen measuring contest.
Worramma!
So where to astartes fit into all this?
