hey guys in this video i'm walking through every  single exterior detailing process products that   are necessary and telling you why i approach  things in certain sequences what i use the why   behind all of that and this is gonna be great  for beginners to be able to learn the process   and people who have their detailing business  established to compare what other people do   and maybe pull out some golden nuggets from  what i do and explain to you why but before we   do that make sure if you guys are interested in  getting my top 12 tools and products as well as   a free video series that teaches you guys how  to use these products correctly so you don't   damage things like i've done in the past decade  of running my detailing business make sure to go   below in the youtube description box before we get  started click the link grab that free pdf and five   part video series and let's get into the video now  as we start off the exterior detailing process i   always start with the wheels tires and wheel wells  because this is the area that is just dirtiest for   obvious reasons and so i like to start with  it because i'm gonna get a bunch of overspray   i'm going to splash a bunch of dirt everywhere  and no it's not like the craziest job in the   world but i am going to get excess dirt excess  grease grime in other places and if i start here   i don't have to go back over this area i'm always  going to go basically tires wheel wells wheels and   that's for no other reason other than i like to  leave the wheels last because they catch all of   the overspray or they catch all of the dripping  from the wheel wells from the tires so it really   doesn't matter if you start with the wheel wells  or the tires it just matters to leave the wheels   last right for obvious reasons generally speaking  i like mcguire's wheel brightener for the wheels   and the inner barrel because it's an acidic  cleaner and i like super clean degreaser for the   tires and for the wheel wells because you can get  it in such big quantities at such a cheap price   and this is an area where you don't need a  specialized product necessarily i also like p   and s brake buster for a non-acidic wheel cleaner  and frankly i also like the jax wax green wheel   cleaner all of those products do a great job if  you don't want the mcguire's wheel brightener   because they do talk about some health side  effects with that product and i suggest wearing   a mask when you are working on this particular  part of the vehicle because this can require   some serious chemicals now after that we're going  to move to the washing stage and specifically the   pre-foam stage not a lot to say about this other  than the fact that i am going to use the pressure   washer to rinse the car down before i actually  start spraying my foam cannon in terms of the   solution that i will use inside my foam cannon i  really like putting honestly mcguire's hyper wash   into my foam cannon the reason why i say  honestly is because maguire's hyper wash   is not the most let's say popular product in the  media of detailing it doesn't get the most air   time but it is relatively inexpensive for the  quantity you get and it's just a basic cleaner   right there's so many cleaners in the detailing  world that have waxes and ceramic infused and   when i'm foaming i just want a basic cleaner i  don't want any additives i will also mix mcguire's   hyper wash with sometimes meguiar's super  degreaser another type of degreaser potentially   some type of all-purpose cleaner or even super  clean degreaser let's say i'll use five or six   ounces of a degreaser inside of a standard size  foam cannon with my maguire's hyper wash just to   kind of give it a power packed punch and then of  course when i'm rinsing it i'm just going to rinse   it from the top down and i'm also not going to  rinse it super thoroughly because i am going to be   adding more soap as i move into the agitation wash  so i don't have to rinse it and get every last sud   off the paint then as i move on i do want to throw  this in because we are being kind of detailed   about the exterior detailing processes here  obviously next i would move to my agitation wash   but i'm throwing in the door jams here because i  do suggest including door jambs in your exterior   washing process because ultimately they are part  of the paint and what people don't realize is that   you're going to get overspray inside of the door  jambs of water and if your door jams are dirty   that water is going to drip out onto the paint  in kind of a dirty sludgy way so if i moved on   to my agitation wash before i did this i would get  this leftover dirty drip marks so i actually do   find it pretty effective to just throw in the door  jambs in between the foam cannon and the agitation   wash if you're going to do it and then of course  i'm going to move to my agitation wash once my   door jams are clean and frankly the door jams are  relatively easy to clean because that type of dirt   doesn't really adhere to the paint it's just  relatively surface level stuff but many times   people don't clean their door jambs now regarding  the agitation wash i like using a mitt like you   can see here that isn't too big there's a lot  of expensive mitts and what i would call like   overly expensive mints in the detailing world and  as with all the things i'm talking about the tools   and products will be linked up in the youtube  description box below so i will be linking up   the mit that i like but i do suggest buying a mitt  that you can kind of dispose of what i mean is on   amazon or on a detailing retail site you find  mitts that come in packs of two packs of four i   like buying those kind because mitts just gets so  greasy and grimy that they just need to be thrown   away more often than you think and i don't like  spending 35 dollars on a mitt that i have to throw   away i am using the two bucket method here and  again a simple wash like a mcguire's hyper wash   simply because i'm going to be protecting later  on i don't need anything infused into the paint   now outside of that i do like dealing with bugs  after i have done an agitation washer because   the agitation wash will pull off the surface  dirt of the front end of the vehicle and it   will expose any of the bugs or the grease grime  in that area that's left over that's not going to   come off with an agitation wash oftentimes i will  use mcguire's all-purpose cleaner on the front of   a vehicle diluted about 10 to 1. this is to your  discretion because you can damage paint by using   too strong of an alkaline cleaner or a non-diluted  enough alkaline cleaner like super clean degreaser   especially if the paint is in relatively bad  condition here i didn't have to do that because   the bugs weren't very bad i'm just using my  foam cannon solution that is also a perfectly   fine option and of course i will be linking up a  specific bug spray remover below in the youtube   description box if you guys are interested for  you to check that out but again most of the time   a microfiber towel detailing brushes and maguire's  abc is more than enough now then we're going to   move on to clay barring some of you might like  to use an iron remover before you do the clay bar   some might like to use the clay bar before you do  the iron remover and it might just depend on the   situation in this particular video i was putting  a ceramic coating on this audi and so i actually   did use the iron remover beforehand because some  people do say that yes it's going to remove some   of those contaminants so that your clay bar when  you follow up with it might abrade the paint a   little bit less i kind of call that into question  i just don't see a lot of empirical data that that   might be true and let's say that the abrasion does  happen at a bit more extreme level with the clay   bar if you don't use the iron d contaminant before  him the question is how much more extreme how much   more abrasion happens because if it's less than  one percent that might not be something we're   actually worried about i'm using an optimum  no rinse solution it's diluted in a 32 ounce   spray bottle basically full of 31 ounces of water  and one ounce of my o r or even less than an ounce   maybe one capful that's what my preferred clay  lube is then of course we move on to the iron   decontamination stage of an exterior detailing  process this is as simple as leaving the paint   wet spraying on your iron chemical decontaminant  i really like optimum ferrex and i also like iron   x i also like the gallon size of mcguire's paint  decontamination in their professional line because   it is a bit more economical this can be done  incorrectly if you leave the chemical on the paint   too long and you can see i'm working in the sun so  i'm actually going to add water with my pressure   washer to the paint so that we get a little bit  of movement on the paint and i'm going to add in   some of my agitation with the mitt i've been using  to wash the paint to move the iron decontaminate   around the paint then spend a pretty good amount  of time actually spraying the paint off i want to   rinse this as thoroughly as i possibly can if i'm  going to use an iron decontaminant now moving on i   want to talk about a more specific area when you  are washing a car often the lower rocker panels   or even this particular area of the truck where  people are going to step up into a more a larger   truck or if you're dealing with a jeep you've  got a lot of black trim on the outside there's   just these kind of let's say areas that vary  car to car where you're going to want to clean   them separately oftentimes i will use my brushes  like my easy detail brush my long handled wheel   brush my detail brushes these are going to allow  me to fit into these areas a little bit easier   and i'll just spray some cleaner like super  clean degreaser five to one ten to one on   an area like this and scrub it separately rather  than scrubbing this with my wash mitt and my soap   because a car wash soap and a wash mitt just isn't  strong enough to really clean an area like this or   let's say the black trim on a jeep or the lower  rocker panels of other cars you guys kind of   get the idea it's not always going to look like  that but it sometimes looks like that there's   lots of different types of cars and lots of  different like accent areas now what you see   me doing here is treating the windshield with a  very simple hand polish from stoner and then i   am going to be treating the windshield just like  i do with every other car which is just protecting   it with whatever protection i'm using in that  particular situation the only reason why i've   included this part in this video because you might  be saying well luke this isn't something you do   on every exterior vehicle this is something that's  more kind of additional case by case and that is   true the reason why i'm throwing it  in here is because i'm using this as a   representation there are often times parts of  a vehicle that require more work than others   detail to detail car to car and this particular  windshield on this toyota corolla was one of them   another area might be there might be some scratch  marks behind the handle of the driver's side door   and the passenger side door where people actually  scratch incidentally behind the door handle on the   paint and you have to treat that with a magic  eraser maybe a little bit of polish there are   these areas of every detail where it's like hey  if i leave this as it is and i don't go a little   bit over the extra mile this is going to hinder  the overall appearance of the vehicle and the   finished part of the detail and i don't want to do  that and so this is just representing that kind of   mindset there are certain areas that require more  attention in an exterior detail process right now   it's the windshield later it might be the paint  behind the door handle in another area it might   be the bug detail where the mcguire's apc isn't  cutting it i'm going to have to reach for a more   specific cleaner i'm going to have to spend a  little bit more time there because if i don't   i'm simply not going to get the results that are  necessary so that is going to vary case by case   but nonetheless i'm going to be hooking this  product up in the youtube description box below   then of course when all of this is done you're  simply left to let's say finish or dress the   areas that are not yet finished you can see  i am finishing the paint here with a sealant   and i'm applying it it's a ceramic sealant and  then of course i'm going to move to the tires   and dress the tires and the wheel wells and then  you might be thinking well there's a lot of black   trim on a car like this and like we're talking  about there's accessory or accent pieces to every   car and you're gonna have to deal with that on a  case-by-case basis but simple areas that need to   be dressed or finished obviously the paint the  windows the chrome around the windows the black   seals around the windows this can all be dressed  with your classic technician's choice mcguire   synthetic express spray wax or something a little  bit more durable if that's what you're using   then as i dress the tires you guys are gonna see  i'm also going to dress the wheel wells because   wheel wells get so dirty and so uh un-uniform  over time and damaged if you don't dress them   they often look like they're still dirty even when  they're not so i'm going to take my tire dressing   spray it up in that wheel well area just to make  sure that that gets dressed as well of course it's   going to be a case by case as to whether or not  you're going to dress things like the black trim   and other areas but outside of that this is a  step-by-step walkthrough of most of the most   common uh exterior detailing processes that you  are going to have to deal with as a professional   detailer the products and processes to accomplish  this successfully and what it takes all right guys   that is it i hope you enjoyed listen if you enjoy  videos like this where i'm really breaking
