I can punch very hard very fast very accurate with both hands and you will be able to after you've watched this video no matter whether you're boxing because you want to be a fighter or you just want to look the best in your gym this video gives you everything you need to be able to perfect every single punch in boxing as you can see across the bottom of the screen here these are the different punches now whatever punch you want to work on just go to that section watch the video or get educated and then practice it in the gym you should email yourself this video for the next time you're going to the gym so you've got this as your punching technique Bible now let's start off with the most important punch unboxing that is your job on this video I'm going to show you how to perfect your job within less than three minutes so the four things you need to focus on with the delivery and the return of the job is the speed the power the accuracy and the return position and that's what we're going to go over right now so the first thing is the speed how do you throw a fast jab to make it look better and to have success with it well there's a few things the first thing is you can have your hand out a little bit here and then throw it if it's out a little bit it's got less distance to travel rather than here it's got to come all the way out all the way back have it out just a little bit and right there you can see the speed increases because it's less distance for it to travel that's one way of getting the speed the other way you're getting more speed into it is stepping with it so if I'm stepping and moving my body forward as I throw the jab the momentum of the movement will improve the speed and it'll be like this so that's it for the speed of the jab now moving on to the power of the jab just like I did there you've seen I got quite a bit of power to it how do you get power into the job well by stepping and getting your body weird behind it that's one way so when I'm doing this now my full body weights behind that punch to make the power even more now the other way is by thinking about power if you're thinking that you're going to punch hard guess what happens you end up punching hard as well so if I'm really thinking about power and stepping in it'll look like this now that right there is a power job now let's quickly move on to the accuracy how it is through an accurate job well it's all about your focus where are you focusing when you're punching where are you aiming you want to be thinking about if you're hitting a heavy bag aiming for the middle of the heavy bag if you're aiming to the side you're gonna your arm's gonna come off you want to be punching straight down the middle like this if you punching well I see all the time across here because maybe you've been working with a mid guy who's holding his mitts this wide the power goes over there you want to point straight down the middle if you're punching straight down the middle that's going to really help with the accuracy the speed and the power of the punch now moving on to the final thing it's the return position of the job now you want to throw the jab from here all the way out and you want to bring it all the way back as well way too often I'll see people throw the jab and they'll throw it and it'll come down front it'll come down or it'll come from here and come back down you don't want to be doing that you want to come all the way from here all the way out all the way back keeping your back hand up by your face at all times and it'll look like this below now you've mastered the chart of the head let's Master the jab to the body oops the job of the body as you've seen there that was a pretty powerful shot and the way I got power into that was by stepping and getting my weight behind it I'm going to talk about that in a second but first I want to talk about when will you throw this job the body because if I'm in the ring with you and you throw the jab of the body at me I can see you're open for the cross over the top and look at this I'll throw it to you look I'm wide open for that overhand right so it does make me feel pretty vulnerable when I do throw this punch and that's the reason why people don't throw it because you you feel wide open when you are thrown it but when you start throwing it correctly like I'm going to show you with speed and accuracy that is when you're going to have a ton of success with it for example when I was throwing the jab of the body when I was in fights I used to think about me defense before I threw that because I know I'm open for that right hand over the top so I would make sure I'm not going to get caught with that punch and if you're expecting a Punch coming at you the chances are you'll not get caught with it so what I mean by that I'm here I'm out of range I will go for speed rather than power like I showed you earlier on I'm here and I'm out so you see that again Watch Me fit I'm in and I'm out I'm out of range I'm stepping in range I'm stepping straight back out it's faster foreign like that and that's going to really confuse them especially if you're doing what you should be doing which is throwing Jabs to the head I'm jabbing to the head I'm moving around with from that nice job the hair I'm moving around then I might finish up the head and go out of the body which is another way to have Success With It think if you're not throwing any job for the body he's not going to expect the job to the body throw jab the head throw jab the head feeling the jab the head his hands are going to come up the block like whoa step in with that jabbed of the body now when you do this throughout a fight or a spawn session multiple times I'm up I'm down I'm up I'm down he doesn't know what's going to come he doesn't know what to expect especially if you're throwing all the punches inside from the hooks your punch variation is high so when you off on that job the body you want to step with it if I step with it and think about speed the speed of my step is going to get the punch faster so I'm here I'm here and again you've got to be really fast with it yeah you see the speed there that was a fast job to body now why would we throw this punch again like I said it's created through to keep him thinking but this is an amazing setup shot and I'm going to show you a clip in a second but what I used to love to do I would use the fool that job the body moving around throw that jab the body and moving around being that shot of the body whipping in that big left hook and it looks like this so I'm here jab the body job the body he thinks I'm going to throw another job buddy realistic faint because I'm stepping and I'm moving and my eyes are looking at his body big left hook the head now that right there is a key to this is when you are fainting a jab to the body you've got to do everything that you would do as if you were thrown the body punch if I'm full of body punch I'll look at the body they are really exaggerated so I'm one or two steps ahead of him so I'm here and look at the body I feel the punch I'm here I'm here look at the body through the punch I'm here I'm here look at the body feeling the punch bum blast at that big left hook okay now I'm going to show you a world champion doing this and talk all about his setup and how he knocked out another amazing Fighter by using the jab of the body when the world champion is Canelo Alvarez and he's fighting my friend Amir Khan and what he was doing for most of the fight he was doing what I said from the jab ahead from the job the body from the one two of the head full and Jab the body from the jab the head throwing the job they keep doing this throughout the fight and I think it was the fifth round where you know Amir was so used to that jab of the body coming Canelo finger the jab the body I'm here comes come out to try and block it and from there the rest is history and it was good night here is the clip tricky Style [Applause] the power punch the cross let's talk about it certainly not it that's not it it's pretty hard and that's definitely not it guys on this video I'm going to show you how to throw the perfect cross number two right hand left hand if you're a South poor in boxing and you know this is uh the basic punch there's probably the second punch that you will learn in boxing it but even if you've been boxing for a very long time you will get value from this video because I'm going to tell you some things that you probably didn't realize that you're doing or how to identify the mistakes that you're making when you are thrown this cross so these common mistakes that I see on from the cross like I said the first one is this [Music] you're not getting power in that punch that's arm punching you're not too uneducated eye it might look good especially let's see if I'm boxing and I'm like this so yeah and look good like unboxing then through that right hand and it's pretty terrible right so I'm here I'm looking I'm looking good I'm looking good I'm not like a professional boxer terrible punch terrible but again if you don't know boxing you might think oh didn't look that bad doing lots of movement before but it was bad I'm not turning me hip I'm not getting power into the punch other common mistakes I see people will be dropping it and then throwing it it's natural you know to think to get power in that punch because with it being the right hand that's the point you look for for power is to pull her back then through it it's natural to think you're going to get maximum power in that punch by doing this but really you're not what you are doing you are letting someone who's in front of you see what you want to do you're telegraphing that punch I've done a full video on Telegraph and punches she's definitely check that one out after this one you're telegraphing that punch so you don't want to do that it's got to come from your face come all the way out and come all the way back otherwise there's even bigger Telegraph words like lean them back then come all over the top yes you do get some power yes if I'm at the fairground and I'm on a punch machine and I'm gonna have to run up I might do the I might use that shot but it's not the way you pull the perfect right hand and where you want to pull the perfect right hand we want to practice perfect and what I see all the time on this channel is perfect practice makes perfect not practice makes perfect but perfect practice makes perfect so what do we want to be doing when we thrown this right hand a few things it wants to come from your face so if I was videoing this in slow motion it comes from your face comes all the way out all the way back there see it's not dipping and coming out that's not coming back and coming out it's coming from the face and coming out and coming back other thing I want to be doing is fully extending you always want to fully extend your straight punches so I'm here all the way out all the way back the only time you wouldn't fully extend a right hand or a cross is if you are setting up a body shot where you want to make come in come short and then do it so you'll throw a short one here because I'm setting up for that left hook the body but if you're throwing just a straight right hand and the perfect way to throw it is fully extend and when I throw that I've got 60 of the wear comes to me from foot 40 in the back foot look where my back heel is the back heel is off the ground and look where the hips are the hips are parallel as well this here really helps me get the weight behind the punch sure I'm fully extending turning the hips and getting maximum power in the punch now the next thing I want to be doing is breathing I want to Exhale with this punch you've got to Exhale with every single punch that you throw when you're in boxing wherever it's the if you're for long combinations you want to actually every single punch now the right hand this is the punch where people normally forget the axial because they want the they come with a macho power and they end up getting exhausted and yeah it's not a good punch to throw so you always want to do that another thing you want to do you always want to keep your lead Handle by your face see this oh I was keeping up by your face like this it's common to see this oh to drop it down here you know but if you do that you're wide open for a right hand yourself and you don't want to be getting clipped now when you do these things they might seem minor deep ears but the Minor Details in boxing is what makes you great and these little things is what can turn you from an average boxer to a good boxer or to a good boxer to a great boxer or to a great boxer to an absolutely amazing boxer just by perfecting these little things right here all the little things in boxing make a big big difference and I've said it before you know if you get better at one part of your boxing game by one percent in one week then the next week you get better a two percent another part of your boxing game the next week you get better at four percent now there in three weeks you're seven percent better you're seven percent better and that's by doing little minor things anyway let's get back on to throwing this right hand so I've given you some things to work on right there and the way you can identify yourself if you're making these mistakes is by getting your phone put on a tripod putting on a bench recording yourself and watching the video back watching yourself to see if you make these mistakes because I guarantee you don't think you're making some of these mistakes you'll not know until you see yourself especially if you haven't got a world-class coach watching you you know and that's how you can tell if you've got a good coach or not if you watch a video back and you can identify mistakes that your coach is not telling you when you're in the gym you know then you might not want to think is this the right coach for me I've been dropping my right hand all the time when I'm from my job I've been loading me right hand up every time I'm punching it but Johnny over here is never taught us so is he the right guy for you if you want to improve in boxing anyway I'm gonna talk all day about this but I'm not going to so right there is the perfect way the perfect methods to throw the right hand now I want to show you it it's here again now to get more power in that punch what I'm gonna do would I'm in Step boom like this and it'll look exactly like this oh yeah that's a solid solid right hand right there now I'm going to show you my favorite tip to land a straight right hand to lead off with a right hand it's pretty hard put this combination always work will work for one time and then people have gone to it and it was Hot Land again why is it hard to land at a straight right hand well if I've got Johnny here who's in front of us and if you look new boxing stands here which hand is closer this hand's closer right so it's easy it's easy to land the job because it's got less distance to toggle right but this one it travels nearly twice the distance so it's harder to land and how can you land it well what you've got to do to land a right hand in boxing you've got to be one step ahead of your opponent or two steps ahead you've got to not let him know you've got to be unpredictable now if I'm here yeah not for that that's pretty predictable or you can see it coming I can't let him think that I'm gonna throw a right hand I've got to make him think I'm going to do something else and by that I don't mean like Amy tie your shoeless Bob oh that might work but no I don't mean that I mean I've got to make him think I'm gonna do something else and what I like to do I like to be here I like to throw a jab to the body right I'll throw a jab to the body again right now wasting at all he's throwing these Jabs the body likes these other bodies next time I'm going to feel the jab to the body won't come up with that right hand but when I feel the jab of the body I'm also turning me hip I'm also kind of bringing this in already so this is on its way but it's too late because he's trying to defend the job of the body but by this time this is on its way out and his arms are coming down it's gonna be hard for him to get them back up and it works all the time so what I'm gonna do I'm here I'm out of range I'm going to pull this out of the body he's thinking oh that was a good punch the body now we stinking oh he's liking that job the body this time I'm gonna be in the top of the body that's for that fast right hand it's like this now you're getting serious power in that cross to the Head let's throw that cross to the body so the cross to the body This Is A Hard Punch just to throw on its own as I've mentioned on my previous videos the easiest and best punch to throw to land is the job the job is look it's closer to my opponent so it's got less distance to travel compared to the Cross but now we're talking about the crust of the body which is got even more distance to travel because it's not just traveling from E to B now it's traveling from A to B is in body it it the body so it's starting from here to here so we've got a little bit more distance to travel so it is a harder punch to execute if you leading off with it because what you've got to do as well when you've thrown this correctly you've got to drop your levels it's hard to throw across the body like this I've really gotta drop my knees and turn my hips and through it like that so when you've thrown this across to the body you're doing five things at the same time see if you can see what five things are what is the five things that I'm doing again so here they are I am bending my knees to lower the levels I am turning my hips to transfer the way into the punch I'm actually thrown the punch I am excellent staying relaxed so I'm not getting too tight and the last thing I'm doing is I'm protecting my face with the non-pointed hand then five things there here it is again so doing them five things is helping you get power into the punch here straight on and what I'm doing here I'm keeping my head on the center line we can take it off and I'll show you that method in a second but we're keeping our head on the center line so it's like a cross to the head but we cross into the body so that was the basic way now I'm going to show you the more advanced way of thrown across the body taking my head off the center line so let's just see if we're countering across if someone's thrown a cross at me but when I do it this way I want to step my lead foot out and take me head off the scent lines so I just said he have a line in between me for you this is the line we have punches coming straight at me I'm going to take my head off that line with the step and then throw that punch now practicing that advancement on the heavy bag the key is here is make sure your front foot lands the same time as your punch and because you're stepping you're getting more weight behind the punch and that's going to increase the power you see the bag swinging there how much power I got into that punch so like I said at the beginning it's hard to land this on its own you've got to set it up so when you're setting up you can set it with punches to the head I might be throwing a one two then through if I'm thrown punches to the Head he's not going to expect that cross to the body if you're from one takes the head he's going to expect one twos to head switch it up throw that one to the Head one to the Head then back back then blast that one into the body that sneaky one into the body the best body punches that land and the one that's her people are the body punches that they don't expect and I've done a full video on body punching you should definitely watch that one after this one other things you can be doing to practice this inspiring or just on the heavy bag you can get up close you can work inside the sharp punches there take a step back wow and then throw that body shot when you take a step back an opponent will expect you to be moving back moving back but if you just take that step back put the weight on the back foot so you can explore and blast that cross in great shot again I'm here getting a lot of power in that so yeah Landing this punch it's all about the setup again it's so hard to be here here and then just throw on that because you will feel open but if I'm here I'm here I'm playing with this left arm playing with the right hand but here yes great one okay so how can we use this crust to the body to set up all the punches well if you think about it if I'm thrown this cross to the body what's that person's reaction hands are coming down leaves them open for head punches but you know we've got to really commit with that punch the body if I'm here and I'm just like here they're not going to believe that and it's leaving this room you've got to really commit to that point to the body when I see a commit I mean go for it with power so they've got to block it if I'm doing this I'm kicking them all day Rachel I've got I've got a gopher so a great center punch is blasting them with the left hook so I'll throw a jab through a jab cross to the body with power one blasting that left hook to the head and this is a perfect combination if you're putting someone on the back foot against the ropes so think about it I've got my opponent I'm kind of backing him up with that jab moving forward he's moving back I might throw a little fast one too he's still not expecting that cross to the body but then I'm going to throw it hard and fast followed by the hook to the Head from here wow and he's not expecting that and that's how you can set up all these shots with this cross it doesn't have to be the hook it could be cross to the body then across to the Head it could be uh cross the body right hook way more advanced it could be a cross to the body lead hook to the body and that's a great one as well great combinations the most awkward punch unboxing is the lead hook but after watching this section right now you're going to be punching with that lead hook very hard and very fast pictures whoa the left hook the body this is one of my favorite punches if not my favorite punch in boxing I used to love throwing this punch I used to put so many people on their backs by hitting them with the lead hook to the body and on this video I'm going to show you exactly how I had success with this punch to win so many fights stop so many people in spawn and give you all the tips and tricks you need so the next time you're in the gym you can practice on the leaves look to the body and get as good as mine so the lead hook to the body there's a couple of ways to throw this punch now throwing this punch and Landing this punch is two completely different things if you think about I couldn't opponent in front of me if I'm here I slip he's gonna see that coming so to land the punch uh you've got to really make him think that you're not going to throw it the best body punches are the body punches that your opponent does never see and if I'm in front of you and I'm feeling the product is Bomb anyone can see that coming so so the Alum would tell you a little tip to be able to deal with that and be able to make sure you can land that punch every time but for now I just want to get into the techniques of it and how and how to throw it there's a couple of ways of throwing it you know the First with a traditional way is by leaning forward and then whipping it in now when I'm leaning forward I'm putting the weight to my front foot so I'm here I've leaned forward look where the weight is it's on the front leg there look where the back heel is the back heel is off the ground there because now what I'm doing I'm loading up to blast that punch in now unlike the hook to the head when you throw that and you're in this position you'll drop your back heel one and transfer the weight to get the power to the head but it's not the head so we don't really want to have the back Hill off the ground and then bring this back because it leaves you wide open you know from here and we don't want to be wide open when we never want to be wide open right so we never want to drop the back heel oh yeah you change the woman I'm gonna call that a right hand so we want to keep our hands up we've slipped the back heel is off the ground what we're going to do we're going to rotate the front hip and this is where the power is here whoa this is going to get the power in that body shots from here I'll do it slowly see I'm rotating the front hip the front foot is still kind of stuck to the floor the back heel does rotate a little bit as if I'm squishing that bug because that helps me bring my hip around my back my back hip around not just concentrating on the front hip here concentrate on the back hip if I'll concentrate on the back hip one one not put we've got to keep our chin down keep your back hand up so watch this here the back hip is going to turn and I'm kind of squishing that bug on the floor I'll show you from this side here so I'm here I've Twisted forward my hips are kind of parallel my back heels off the ground and I want to twist this hip and kind of Squish that bug keeping the heel off the ground as I do it and this is where the power comes from from here yeah so here we go and you're seeing there the power and I want to bring my arm with me it's not this and then the arm it's at the same time so when the foot's moving that punch is coming out and that's where the power comes from so again here and you can see in the pole there I don't want to exaggerate this door I'll see when I teach this and I'll see people then they'll be like like some sort of Elvis Presley dancing we don't want to be doing Elvis Presley dancing in boxing just a slight womp womp there look you see that pump and that's where the power is here yeah hard hard points right there now as I mentioned you want to have your back Handle by your face and you don't want to bring in your lead hand off your face too early so what I'll see when people will do is a slip they'll might bring this down and then go it's too late keeping your lead hand on your face while you have slipped there and then as you twist then it comes off so on so I'm here I might throw a jab slip jump there and when you're practicing this punch a couple of things you know don't look for Power every time look for technique if you're looking for technique you're going to have way more success in it that's the first thing the next thing is when you are starting to look for Power try and punch through the bag don't like bounce your hand off like this if you punch through and drive through the Pug your power will increase but again we don't look for Power every time work on that technique next thing think about your non-punching hand when you're doing this huge common mistake is this yeah I can see that where's this bomb I'm finished I'm knocked out yeah keep this up by your face elbow tight in there and again last thing I'm going to mention one more time don't bring your hand away from your face too early so it's not warm keep it on your face like that and that right there is a pretty perfect lead hook to the body but like I said if you're in there with someone with experience and you're lean over boom and through that hook you're not going to land yo they're going to see that coming a mile away and right now I'm going to give you my little secret that really helped me have success with this and when you do this and you want to try this I guarantee you you're going to have loads of success and you're gonna come back on this video and come in and say Tony that was amazing I've just dropped someone in spawn for the first time with this body punch technique that you've just showed us so for this one I'm going to jump around this side of the bag so you can see remember what I said if I'm in some in there with someone who's experienced even if they're not experienced and I'm here and I slip so I've seen the slip and you know they've blocked that punch but if I remove this slip Yes you heard that right if I remove the slip and then for the body shot we are not going to see the body shot coming now you're probably thinking well how are you supposed to throw a body shot without slipping and that's kind of it but a bit better now I want you to think about this if I'm inside I'm here with with two more up close right and I threw this body shot here that right there I didn't slip I didn't transfer me where I didn't do any of this fancy shell of the stuff when we back foot but I've got enough power in the punch to hurt someone to put someone away so all I did here I'm here throughout the report I want to go one step further with this and show you one more little trick that you know I love with this and what that is is touch upstairs if I'm inside with someone let's just say my guy is here and we're up close every fight gets across every spinal session gets too close you can even practice this on your bag as well I did it all the time practice on the back all the time and of course touching if I'm punching him up there where's his elbows going to be where's his hands going to be if someone's punching me my hands are going to come up if I've got experience which I have I'll come up but I'll try and block my body as well most guys won't expect this Punch Coming they'll definitely not see you coming so I'm here see that again what I did there I did a one two hook two boom body shot now yes coaches don't teach this coaches don't know this but not not our coaches I apologize if you're quoting you do teach this but start teaching it watch this again excellent body punch right there will finish someone off the overhand right oh let's practice this a little bit better than that yes a counter over here right yeah I don't think Jones is gonna get up no he's certainly not going to get up from that big in his life who's been Ahmed Ashley Sexton with an emphatic sizzling statement here foreign if you hit someone clean with this it could be good night this is a Hard Punch to throw but if you land it right you're going to have some good success with it on this video I want to show you how you can have success in throwing this punch whether you're just doing it for training on the heavy bags or whether you're sparring or whether you're fighting if you get hit with one of these shots it is not very nice I got hit from the German Champion with this punch right on my nose and guess what happened my nose snapped bum broke blood everywhere so I know firsthand how dangerous this punch really is so now there's a few different ways of throwing this punch now the first way is like if let's just say I'm in with opponent who's throwing a lazy jab up here I can come over the top of that jab with my right hand because if you think if I'm fighting him here and this is there look where he's open he's open there so I can step take my head off the line and come over the top and if you think that there's a line on the ground this is where the punches come I'm stepping I'm taking my head off that line I'm getting out the way of that jab as I'm stepping and punching the foot and the punch will land at the exact same time so it'll be over the top like that so give me a little jab there mate there foreign obviously when you're throwing this you're going straight for the face now you might see my hand and arm position there you're like it looks a bit strange and that's because it is because I'm coming kind of like round like a hook but what I want to do I want to I'm not going to roll around like a hook I'm going straight forward and around so it's kind of like my arm is curving as I'm throwing it I'm going over the top overhand over his hand that's why the overhand right is called the overhand right because my hand's going over his hand boom I'm going down punching straight down to the chin there now the other way of throwing this is leading off for it and this is how I got caught with I remember very clearly how I got caught with I'm in front of the German guy like this my eyes on his eyes and what he does he sidesteps and as he's sidestepping my eyes is following his eyes and then his arm comes after so he sides to him one and it'll come after I'm not even looking at this hand I can't even see this right hand but he managed to blast me on the face so I'm stepping if you look how far my head's coming and now this time as I'm doing it this is coming after I step there now his eyes would be following my eyes he's not expecting this arm to come last if you think about when people are stepping the hands are always coming with them here so I'm moving side to side my hands are staying here this time my hand comes after he step one over the top oh that gives me chills thinking about that it snapped my nose in half and it's like this so I'm here I'm here I'm moving I'm moving step and you can see as I'm stepping this is coming around I'm getting some serious power the punch costs the momentum of the movement is getting behind the punch I'm here I'm here nice if you land on it but if you get hybrid it's a horrible punch so we know now if he's gonna throw a lazy job we can come over the top of that right hand so let's set it up how I would settle up I would get him through a job at me how am I going to get him to throw a job at me well if I move to me right with this hand down the only punch he can really throw is that jab I know he's going to throw that jab so I'm hanging out I'm here I'm here I'm waiting as soon as he throws it throw that overhand right and this has been one step ahead of your opponent you've got to know what he's going through you've got to make him through what you want to make him through when you do that you're going to have success so again I'm here I'm here I'm I want him to throw that job you can't throw the job here as soon as this comes down won't come blasting over the top with that big horrible I want to call it a horrible right hand okay how do you get maximum power in this overhand right you've got to do a few things one you've got a steer relaxed if you're getting tight which I'll see where people will be like you will get some power but you're not going to get maximum power you want to be nice and loose here nice and relaxed and you see the other power so when you are doing this as well you need to have a really tight fist the tighter your fist the better loose arm very tight fist now with the momentum of this movement you're going to step and turn your hip getting your hand over the top as you're stepping boom and that right there is going to get all of your weight behind the punch no matter how heavy you are it doesn't matter you're going to be able to punch really hard with this try it inspiring try it on the meat try it on the bugs and I'm sure you'll love it now what a very Advanced move which is the pivot hook on this video I'm going to show you how to do a pivot hook on a heavy bag yes it's a very Advanced move but after watching this video you're going to get a great understanding of exactly how to do it so the next time you're in the gym you're going to give it a ghoul in there why would we do a pivot hook well a pivot hook we can use it for a few reasons number one is it's a great defensive move to get out the way of your opponent who's marching forward now let's just see this is the ropes you're behind us you know to get off the ropes I could sidestep and go along or I would do the faster thing which is a pivot which I'm going to break that down for you in a second another reason why we do the pivot rather than just the side step is because we change the angle when we're changing the angle within the opponent in front of us here you know it really confuses them and it really gets in your opponent's head but we're not going to do this with an opponent like I said we're going to do it on a heavy bag a great way to do it when you are fighting is when someone's coming onto you like if you're a visualized you've got a little Mike Tyson who's kind of steam and fold like this then we would pull that pivot hook change the angle and send him flying through there so there's a couple of ways of doing the pivot hook and you can kind of pivot both Wheels but when you're pivoting to your right if you're right-handed it's pretty hard because she kind of come Square on I'm going to talk about that in a sec but the ways that I love to do it is I'm pivoting to my left my back foot is going to move to me left and I'm switching that stance now when you are in your boxing stance you always want to have this line in between your feet here right so the lines in between your feet as you can see there when I pivot that line stays in between your feet I'm going to show you from this angle so the lines in between my feet here I'm pivoting the lines in between my feet here a big common mistake that I see with people when they're trying to do this one they'll pivot and the back foot will come too far around and they'll cross the leg and they'll be off balance and you'll look like an idiot and I don't want anyone who watches these videos to look like an idiot so you're not like an idiot after watching this so again I'm here turning I'm in that boxing stands position perfect with this angle change now one thing to think about when you're doing a pivot this way is think about you have got a screw through your foot your foot is tied to the floor just your toes toe can't move people see you're squishing a bug or you're putting a cigarette out what they used to tell me when I was a kid you're putting a cigarette out like this and that's kind of what you're doing so you're going to squish that book put that cigarette out and turn and change the angle staying in the exact same boxing position as you did so that's one way of doing it I'm going to show you on the heavy bag bear with us do the way of doing it is side step and then pivot now this is a great way to to do it to get further out the distance now on the heavy bag I want to show you the first way if I do the first rear boom I'm pivoting I'm kind of still in distance but the second way if I step and pivot now I'm further out with distance so that's the pivot now how do we do the pivot hook and put the hook behind it well what you're going to do with the arm as your foot starts moving your arm starts moving your back foot hits the ground the same time as your front hand lands so I'm here boom here see here here now watch with a heavy bag and this is how you practice on the heavy bag why are the heavy bags there although you can do it it works again I'm here but what I like to do which is more advanced is have the heavy bag swinging when the heavy bag is swinging it's more realistic and it doesn't have to be swinging really high really fast just here look it's got that swing now I can time this pivot hook as it's coming wow there now I'm in my boxing stands here I've changed the angle now because I'm swinging that back foot around the momentum of my body weight shifting one really gets the power into that punch because it's hard to lead off with the power lead hook but when you're whipping that back foot around as the bags coming on I think you can hear there a lot of power was in that punch so that's the first we're doing it letting this come practice in keeping the foot in the floor as it comes now that's the first view now the second way of doing it this is before I show you me during the fight and this is the way I do it in the fight in the clip I'm about to show you after this is stepping out so it's coming in I'm going to show you the pivot first I'm going to step pivot now look how much more distance I've got away from the bag if you visualize an opponent coming at you you know you've stepped you've took your head off that Center Line in case there's a Punch coming at you and then you're going to rip in that pivot so this is what it looks like on the heavy bag it's swinging as the heavy bags come on a step pivot hook now look at the distance I'm in great distance to combat with me punches and a great combination to come back with after that step out pivot Hook is a jab jab two now you'll be thinking what a pivot hook I'm coming back with a jab jab two but yes you're in the perfect position to throw that double jab cross after you've done that pivot hook and like I told you it's Advanced it is Advanced combination you've got to practice it so here it is the bag is swinging I'm going to step pivot hook jab jab two I'm in that great position to throw that jab jab too as you can see the other bags swinging everywhere I just let the bank swing while I'm practicing different techniques you shouldn't be letting the bag swing around in the gym if you're a box in the bag let's take this I've done a video on how to control the box so if you're in the gym in the back swing like that you should watch the video below about control in the back so now the clip of me doing this in a fight so here it is I'm in a fight right here I'm fighting the military Champion yes this guy was the champion from the Navy the Army the Marines this is the champion of demo this was for the England title and if you see here I step out of it and I throw that long pivot hook and it lands perfectly on his chin moving on to the overcut on this video I'm going to talk all about the rear Overcoat we've got three different variations of the rear Overcoat we've got the short range the mid-range and then the long range I'm going to show you exactly how to throw each one and tell you when you should be throwing these punches this is actually a very hard punch to land when you're leading off with it especially when you're throwing the long range or even the mid-range it's super hard to lead off that punch and land it and I'm going to get into the long range lead uppercut first this is what it looks like and as you can see I got quite a bit power in that punch it was pretty fast and I stepped with the punch as well to get my weight and the full force of my body behind it so when you're doing this you're going to step then punch immediately after and if you think that I've got an opponent here and I'm out of range I'm stepping in range but I'm still thrown that long punch and when you're off on that long uppercut the finish position will look like this going out there I'm not on a 90 degree angle or I'm not on the short range side this is the long one so your arm comes out and you want to drive the force forward a common mistake with throwing uppercut is people will throw it and they'll and they'll try and bring the power up and go back over there don't do that you want the force to go forward and point straight through it again and that's where the power comes in so when would you throw this long lead Overcoat in a fight well if you are in with an opponent who let's say throws a big long sloppy right hand and he puts his weight over his front foot and his head forward and he's in this position here he's in a perfect position to hit him with that long lead over cut so I'm moving the bag as that is as if that's him coming in now as he comes in big long lead double chord and again if he's moving onto that punch you're going to get more power into it because the force of him moving into it and you're punching through it increases the force a lot now moving on to the mid-range uppercut it looks like this and as you notice how how I'm feeling this I'm really turning my hip and punching through that Target again like the long range one I'm not punching up and trying to come up like that or I'm going to end up punching myself in the face like you might have seen Tyson Fury do that one time on his YouTube you want to really drive through the punch turning your hips and getting your body weight into it yes so when would you throw this in a fight I like to think about if I'm fighting someone who's a shorter opponent than me if you think like a little Mike Tyson who's marching forward like this he's the perfect guy to blast them with that uppercut so with this one you can do it move them back which looks like this step back over cut then you can do it step on forward which looks like this waiting for the bag to go come and stuff off step forward and then as well you can do it just on the spot here turning that hip getting the power in and like I said the best time to use this if you were a smaller opponent who's marching forward what what that in and with this you can't just only throw it off the jab you can throw it off the hook or you can float offer one two hook and put it all together until you kind of perfect it and now before we get on to the most popular version of the uppercut what you should definitely learn to master the short range from around the world all packed into one video package that will 100 help you improve your boxing so I'm moving on to the short range Overcoat I absolutely love move this punch and it looks like this it's such a good shot and when would you throw this well I'm guessing you can know when you're inside with an opponent you would throw this punch and every single fight in the history of boxing just about ends up inside the apartment where you can give you that chance to throw that shot and the reason why I love this punch so much is because you can set up so many different punches with it if you think I'm in front of you I threw that uppercut there what you're going to do chance are you going to block there so it leaves you open for the body so on throwback could hit the body I can throw it over because your hands come forward I can hit you around this side there the short range overcut is one of my favorite punches in boxing it's something that you should definitely definitely try to perfect and get better at now you've mastered them punches let's talk about getting power in either hand with a lot of power and there's a few ways that you can increase your power if you punch him the very next time you go to the gym and now the first thing I want you to think about is the rotation you need to rotate your body into the punches to get your full body weight behind the punches often I'll see this arm punches you're not getting that power in you need to really get through and punch you through the bag with that rotation and you're seeing the pole there so root in your hips transferring your weight no matter what punch it is gets that power into the bag and like I mentioned you want to think about punching through the target so rather than me visualizing the bags here like this I'm trying to get my hand through the bag and when I put my hand through the bag that's where the power increases just like that now another thing that's important is staying relaxed often people will punch try and punch hard and they'll be holding the breath and then they'll be tired like that straight away no you need to try and stay relaxed everything when your body is relaxed apart from your fists you want to have really tight fists and your body's relaxed so there I'm relaxed and what I can even do to show you how relaxed I am I could whistle I don't want you to do this but I just want to show you foreign you I'm relaxed but I'm still punching hard so when you turn your hips and punch through the target with staying relaxed that's going to increase your power now another thing that you can do when you are doing this is think about it think about power if you're thinking about power and thinking about all other things that I've just went through there with a rotation staying relaxed your punches will 100 be hard at now the last thing this is the big one is movement if you'll move with the punches you're going to get so much power the momentum of your body weight of the movement is going to increase that so I'm here now I moved into it we can get power standing still loads of power but when I step in with it and the feet in the punches land at the exact same time that's when here it is here it is look at that you can see how much the bag is swinging there now this is with all the straight punches with the benign punches need to plan the feet drive through the back so I'm here now your punches are great let's work on your feet click here and watch this video next where I'll give you drills to get better footwork click here next
