I'm probably the 19 000th person in the state this opinion online but the owl house is a really great show like a really really great show like one of my favorite cartoons ever made I honestly feel lucky that I got into it while the series was airing which for me was around the first half of season two I can't think of the last time I was actively invested in what was going to happen next in the show as we got closer and closer to that finale because there really is so much that I could praise about her from the animation to the characters to the World building and lore and with it coming to a close I figured it'd be a good idea to take a look back and reflect by ranking every single episode baby no I did not put this together in one week this is a product that I've worked on for the better course of five months uh yeah we're ranking all 43 episodes of The Owl House I know some people might think it's unfair for me to include the double length season three episodes on this list but I think it's important to still take those those episodes into account when talking about this show as a whole plus the length doesn't play all that much of a factor in terms of their placement as you'll see as the list goes on I'm just gonna go ahead and jump right into this so sit back and relax as I take you on the one-of-a-kind Journey that is the owl house oh boy I'll be the first to admit that once upon a swap is not the absolute worst thing in the world despite being almost universally agreed to be the worst in the show but like even I can't fight that one again it's not devoid of good elements I mean there's a couple of really good jokes that come with this scenario as you would expect from any body swap episode yet none of these can cover up how structureless and genuinely uninvesting this whole concept is I think it's exacerbated by the fact that the three leaves willingly switched bodies with each other which kind of deflated the tension seriously Eda you expect me to feel bad that you got captured by these two old ladies while you're in King's body that was I'm not gonna finish that statement but yeah the entire inciting incident is that the characters think that they all have the easier life so they switch bodies as some sort of challenge there's barely any flow or intersection between these Misadventures until the ending so this entire episode feels like a collection of mini shorts are they at least entertaining no not really the best one out of these three is probably Eda and King's body it's a good way to show how nobody takes him seriously because of how adorable he is King and lose his body has good jokes but the scenario itself is ultimately the most rushed and carries the lowest Stakes out of the three and I really really really don't like Basha but we'll get some more on that later but I think lose and eda's body is the plot line that's always made me hold this episode in such low esteem first of all shouldn't it be obvious to Lilith that this isn't her sister you'd expect someone as adamant about having either join a coven would know better than this it's not like lose does a good job of pretending to be her and second isn't it kind of weird that we're getting key information about Lilith's pass in this episode episode out of all of them does it really make any sense to reveal this kind of monumental information in such a goofy scenario that has absolutely nothing to do with advancing the story also apparently none of the characters even remotely learn anything from this experience because right after they switch bodies and all the enemies they faced comes together either decides to switch everyone else's bodies now that they're back to normal so apparently you've learned nothing about why this kind of thing is bad even though the body swap that you guys did had drastic consequences and now you're gonna do the exact same thing as an easy way out of something that's entirely your fault look as painful as it is to say I'm confident in calling this a bad episode and really the only one in the bunch at least they kept the consistently good things intact like the animation and King being my third favorite character in the show even when trapped in another character's body singer season one episodes in a row wing it like witches is a massive step down in every possible way with the exception of a couple of really sweet moments with losing Amity and King just existing I was pretty bored for most of this one I don't think Basha is capable of being a primary antagonist she's literally just a popular girl who was particularly obnoxious when the writers decided to give her more screen time I get that this episode needed to happen when it did in order to distance Amity from her Posse but what they went with here just feels like the bare minimum it's not incomprehensibly awful but you can honestly just skip it without missing out on that much you see you knew this is a movie about a Moving Castle I think what gets on my nerves the most About hootie's Moving Castle would have to be its placement in the show it's perfectly fine on its own but it clashes so hard with the one that came right before Amity still acts like a gigantic mean girl but this time it's because she still thinks Willow and Gus aren't as good as her and doesn't want to invite them to a sleepover the specific conflict they go with here feels extremely Petty and feels like one that should have taken place earlier in the show beyond that though this is a perfectly serviceable adventure with Willow losing Gus and the subplot with Ada trying to get elixir on the black market was neat too if only for giving me one of my top five favorite jokes in the entire show kind of game are you playing capitalism where everyone wins except you it's a small world after all really small problems is definitely an episode that lives up to its name similar to hootie's moving hassle I think a conflict like this should have been reserved for earlier in the season especially with how selfish King is here with him shrinking Gus and Willow to get more time with Luz but it does have its fair share of funny moments and Mr tibbles is a pretty solid antagonist for this episode I guess that not everybody wins with capitalism you greedy piece of and now back to your regularly scheduled program of course I should be proud of myself because I'm finally using my gift for something important man any sport in the storm really sticks out in terms of being generic not awful on its own but this kind of filler isn't something that I'm willing to overlook this late in the season I like some stuff like everything involving Hunter he's allowed to show more of his personality here now that he's given Focus but without his inclusion the story feels like something to come out of early season one losing Amity to try to find out info about an author and Willow and Gus start another sports team club it feels very out of place compared to the rest of season two they also add a bunch of characters from previous episodes who do absolutely nothing it's not bad but the mediocrity of the plot stands out a lot more and the character interactions just aren't strong enough to cover that up the best episodes in the show are the ones that are successfully able to advance the story and give great character moments and the ones that are able to do at least one of those two really well makes me Overlook if they're meant to be filler this one unfortunately isn't able to do that for me but there was very little here that I actively disliked unlike some of the episodes that are lower on this list Abomination here I was a teenage Abomination is the episode where Luz finally gets a chance to go to Wizard School well technically she sneaks in and gets banned in the end but I digress I don't really have a whole lot of whole idea about this one honestly I like our introduction to Willow and thinks she and lose make a solid pairing for this scenario but most of this episode is mainly just mediocre School melodrama that happens to be at a magic school and not much of it really contributes all that much to expanding the world or giving us all that much Insight on the new characters Not a Bad episode but not one that's really all that memorable either Escape From The Palace man is just kind of okay my biggest problem with this one would probably have to be the way it's paced it goes from being about lose going to a sports game with Willow and Gus before pretty clumsily devolving into a big battle with the demon queen I don't mind her being brought back for another appearance as an antagonist but why this episode she just feels like a weird choice if you just cut the sports game piece out entirely then maybe it would have felt more cohesive oh well the king stuff here was pretty fun especially when he tried to commit homicide on this five-year-old for taking his throne I remember not really liking Follies at the coven Day Parade When I first saw it but this rewatch had me warm up to it a little bit mainly because of how much better rain is here than when they were in their first appearance you can tell how they still care about Eda deep down despite their commitment to serve the emperor and the fight that they have with Eda is very well built up to but the rest of this episode is fairly safe by the show standards I have no idea why you'd have kikimura have a complete 180 as a character only to end up going back to the emperor in the end it makes this episode feel like a week attempt to be filler aside from the stuff with era and Rain also this is this is the first episode where Bellows takes his helmet off in front of everybody this doesn't affect my analysis of the score but I feel like maybe this should have been the first time we the audience saw his face as well we already know what he looks like because he took his helmet off in Eclipse Lake and we saw his face you should have waited to show us Dana but this is still a fine episode just one of the more forgettable ones of season two convention is kind of a mixed bag for me it has a lot of individually great elements to it but most of the story beats here don't really connect all that well as a whole this episode divides its time between giving us more backstory with Eda and slowly starts to ease the tension between Amity and lose with the whole coven thing being used as a framing device for these two plots to work around I feel like you could cut Gus and Willow out of this one entirely without much changing and the reason why I brought that up is because they were reduced to background characters by the end despite going to the convention being their idea also while I like how different Lilith and Eda are in terms of personality and think the mystery is still surrounding both of them is mostly well handled I did find their big battle at the end to be a bit unnecessary and it kind of undercuts the luminy stuff but yeah losing ammony's plot line here is pretty good I love how realistically paced their relationship is throughout this series it allows both of them to move past their resentment towards each other by realizing how they're not quite as different as they think despite coming from different worlds you can really see how much being the best at Magic means to Amity here and lose finally realizing that offers her a sense of humility that allows her to be more understanding so yeah this episode is absolutely excellent for these two but I feel like the other plot lines make it feel kind of uneven as a whole it's a fine episode but could have been better if the two halves connected a bit better for all the things you want to do make the most to school something ventured something framed is when Lou's finally gets enrolled in school for real this time I think it's a pretty solid focused episode for Gus and that's about it the setup here is kind of generic and predictable with Gus lying about loses band being lifted in order to show off a live Human to his club and this rival he's competing with wasn't particularly funny or memorable but I still thought this one was pretty funny especially the stuff we find out about Eda and the stuff that she did while attending hexide okay number one getting published is harder now than it ever has been don't have a whole lot to say about sense and insensitivity the Eda and Lilith stuff here is kind of boring but I thought King becoming an author was super funny he's right about shipping you know the first day is loses official first day at hexide even though she's technically already been enrolled this is a pretty good episode with Lou's wanting to study a little bit of everything in spite of principal bum's conviction that she needs to go by the rules and just study one thing it makes sense what she'd be so enthusiastic about this and I like how there are other students like her who wanted to explore more than one thing plus king becoming a substitute teacher was especially funny not bad for her first day of school episode you know uh Brandy by Looking Glass Through the Looking Glass ruins is good but I feel like the two plot lines it presents didn't blend all that well together I feel like Gus learning to embrace the value of his illusion magic and repairing things up with Maddie feels really disconnected from losing Amity trying to find more info on the mysterious human that came to the boiling Isles long ago but the episode overall is still pretty good and the little kiss that they had at the end was sweets okay I'm just now realizing this after I finish recording the audio for this did you guys know that one of Maddie's Squad members is voiced by Harvey Guillen the guy who played perito in the last wish I think I just made myself like this show a little bit more clouds on the horizon doesn't do as good of a job as setting up for the season finale as Agony of a witch while some elements of the plot are well built up to and raise the stakes for what comes next the main conflict being everyone teaming up against the psychopath doesn't feel all that earned it was still satisfying this year get taken down a peg but the fact that this has been her only appearance since episode 2 of this season really does this final confrontation to disservice and more interactions between her and alador specifically would have been warned to considering this is the first time he's standing up to his wife also if she knows the day of unity is gonna drain the magic of all the witches including her why does she go through with it I know she's all about money and luxuries and stuff but for a character that's been established to be very calculating when it comes to getting what she wants this mindset just feels like it comes from a place of stupidity that's very jarring for a character like her Elise alidor finally got a chance to call her out for being a horrible person anyways in spite of this episode having its fair share of problems the overall package is still solid there's a ton of individual scenes that really stand out like lose deciding to let her palace men decide what it wants to be or that beautiful moment that she has with Amity and to be fair this is the last episode before a finale that's meant to be a cliffhanger so this episode placing its focus on a singular Arc does make a little bit more sense here it's just the way it's executed that I take minor issue with but the characters all coming together was very powerful and overall I still had a fun time thank you a lying witch and Warden was the very first Owl House episode ever the beginning of a path to Greatness yeah this episode is pretty solid for a pilot even though it's pretty standard compared to a lot of the other ones in both this and later Seasons I think it's a nice idea to have lose initially be forced to help eat it in King in order to get home before realizing how much she enjoys it in the demon realm it's a really neat way to have her and eat a connect also the joke that Eden makes about giraffes is absolutely perfect more on that later yeah I'm glad that this episode has a good chunk of free watchability especially considering how early it was in the show's lifetime maybe the opening could have been a little bit slower paced and we could have gotten some more of loses life on Earth but otherwise it's pretty good I am your mother Keeping Up Appearances is a decent episode that gives some pretty solid characterization for Eda and Lilith and not much else I think it's nice to see both of them have distinct conflicts with their mom and I like the ultimate resolution where Lilith decides to go back with her it's a good external allusion to how distant Lewis feels from her mom after spending so much time away from the human realm nothing super groundbreaking but still well at executed nonetheless elsewhere and else when is definitely one of the better plot-centric episodes of season two with Lou's finally going back in time to meet Philip in hopes of building a new portal the reveal that he'll eventually grow up to be Bellows is something that was pretty easy for me to guess but it's something that was built up to and foreshadowed throughout the first half of season two um it was cool to see how he used the same magic as Luz at one point it was also cool to see Lilith bond with lose the fact that this episode is able to introduce the concept of time travel without ever feeling Exposition heavy is honestly kind of miraculous eat it reconciling with her dad kinda felt out of place in this episode but it was still a nice moment yeah this is one that I think is very strong plot wise but just kind of decent in terms of characters I definitely call the Intruder one of the better season one episodes I think it was nice to see losing King be on their own here because it allowed the two of them to connect over them having similar struggles about not feeling like anyone takes them seriously they have great chemistry when they're allowed to jokingly play off of each other but it's nice to see that this movie movie it's nice to see that this episode was able to take its time and really flesh out both of them season two does this a lot better mind you but it's still pretty good here and it was nice to see Luz use magic for the first time on her own rather than just having eat a teacher a spell what holds this one back for me is the aftermath of once it's revealed that it is cursed it's not the plot development itself but the way she explains it is a bit awkward and the nightmare that she has about her trying to figure out who cursed her kind of comes across as forced it feels like they tried to cram a whole episode's worth of information into the span of an ending but aside from that I enjoyed this one just fine requesting wait I think the best part about witches before Wizards would probably be its character Arc for lose it's the first time in the show where we get to see glimpses of her insecurities and how her unbrattled enthusiasm about Eda training her to become a witch stems from her wanting to feel a sense of importance in this world that she's unfamiliar with thought it was a really clear subversion of the chosen one narrative which I thought for sure this episode would follow on first viewing thus kick-starting the remainder of the season and the fact that lose gets sent on this completely made up quest to learn a lesson about choosing her own destiny rather than it being chosen for her is an amazing concept this is a rare instance where the second episode of the show is a significant improvement over the first it builds off of the first one great and an excellent way to have eat a warm up to lose to me Labyrinth Runners feels like the perfected version of what they were going for with any sport in the storm I think it's great to see Hunter on his own after the horrifying Revelations of his Origins and coming here out of all the places I like the dynamic he forms with Gus and despite this being a noticeably smaller scale conflict it still feels a lot more personal given what we now know about Hunter the stuff outside of that is fairly standard but not out of place and it is a good way for him to finally turn to the Light Side Eclipse I hesitate to call Eclipse Lake a Bad episode of the show it does have a lot of really great elements to it like giving more insight on the relationship between Bellows and Hunter you can really see how the way he treats him has gotten to him psychologically and how he still feels obligated to do whatever he asks despite him verbally stating how disposable he is that scene where he attempts to dig his own grave when he realizes the lake has no Titan blood is meant to be played for laughs but it's really pitiful to see him acting this way but this episode does have some problems like I don't like how Reckless and immature Eda and King are here and know that they have their new powers it undercuts the urgency of the quest dust and the emotional that the episode is going for and it's also an aider of one of my biggest problems that would occur later in the show the fact that Amity gradually becomes more dependent on lose to become interesting it draws a connection between Hunter's desire to beat Bellows and amity's desire to impress lose and it's not a bad parallel but it shows the direction that the character would be taking moving forward and I don't love it in spite of how much I love them as a couple good episode but not really one of my all-time favorites for those reasons we know the four elements earth air water and fire Adventure in the elements is a banger initially going into the show I was wondering why this series was so adamant about loose taking as long as she did to learn a second spell but this episode is the first time that Luz and the audience are being rewarded for their patience it's cool to see Luz learn to realize that there's more than one way for her to learn magic and how there's value in the unique way that she does it and we also get to see Amity realize that her magic capabilities stem from Beyond what she can do with her wand and I thought it was pretty funny that the twins were being overly nice to Amity in this one after way of making up for the events in Lost in language only thing bringing this one down is I feel like it's out of character for lose to steal amity's wand at this point in the show but at least they didn't try and force a fight with them once you found out she took it aside from that this is a great episode that lays a good amount of groundwork for these two is exceptional growth throughout the season both in terms of their powers and as characters for the episode right before the finale Agony of a witch is pretty good it UPS the stakes and tension significantly compared to the rest of the season with eda's Curse coming back in full force the introduction of Emperor Bellows which probably could have had a little more weight to it given how much it was discussed before and the reveal that it was Lilith who's responsible for eda's curse the whole time the building blocks for lose to finally put everything that she's learned to the test without the help of her Mentor once again I do think certain reveals here could have been better built up to but for the most part this is an absolutely great way to set up for the finale so for a soul I don't know how much of a hot take this is but Young Blood old souls is a surprisingly good season finale I do have problems with it like the threat of bellows isn't really felt in this or the previous episode but he's legitimately amazing in the second season so I kind of give it a pass here also why was Amity not given anything to do during the finale other than that I don't know I just thought this episode was mostly well put together it's really strong emotionally and I'm by the reconciliation between Eda and Lilith I know some people take issue with Lila's dramatic shift in attitude and desire to help eat it halfway through but I thought it was well handled even early in the season you can see glimpses on how none of the stuff she does is personal even though she does coral with her sister fairly often here and it's really powerful to see Lilith decide to share the curse with the two of them I like the backstory they give for both of them as well and think the narrative earns this Redemption especially when taking the events of season 2 into account in spite of its issues I think this episode stuck The Landing for the season pretty hard if it's got to be clean It's gotta be tied if there was any indication that season two of this show was going to be unlike anything we'd seen before it would have to be separate Tides the opening of this episode has so much more urgency and tension than almost the entirety of season one I love how naturally the story picks up after the finale with there being so much dramatic consequences for what our main characters got themselves into from lose and Eda having to become bounty hunters to Emperor Bellows gradually becoming more controlling with his law enforcement talilla feeling the need to continually amend her previous actions as a way to gain trust from the other characters this episode also uses hoodie very well with using his naivete as a tool for him to comfort Lilith on whether or not she'll ever be able to make things right it was sweet to see the two of them connect and the fact that hoodie calls her Lulu is the most adorable thing ever overall a great reintroduction to this world that expertly sets up the tone for the remainder of season two animal no taking the rest of the show into account I can really appreciate hunting Palace man a lot more at first I took issue with Eda just giving lose a rare piece of wood that allows her to carve out whatever palaceman she wants I saw it as a missed opportunity and thought it could have at least been an exploration of why I lose really wants to do this but it's clear that they were saving that Arc for much later in the season and this episode is a good foundation to build upon this episode does suffer a bit from loses struggle throughout the episode kind of taking a backseat once she teams up with Hunter but I do still really enjoy their interactions and it's really interesting to see how Hunter Services a foil to her with him not having powers like the other witches it's a really subtle yet effective setup in the ending where he gets his own Palace man is a good way at hinting his Redemption later in the season I'm really glad that I came to like this one in spite of its flaws oh Titan War art that was a pretty nice breeze after all these dark reveals and Revelations that came in the episodes before it's very simplistic in terms of its plot but I don't consider that to be a detriment here normally this would be something that annoyed me late in this season but I was really invested in King and luge just vibing as a way to make the most of the time they have left until the day of unity it's nice to see Eda worry over both of them and make sure that they don't get hurt which is why actually turns to rain fortunately they've been able to break free from the emperor's curse and they're starting a rebellion with the most pandering name you could possibly imagine did not agree to this name the cats also this is just a side note but I really wish we could have gotten more of darius's character who was apparently supposed to get a lot more focused before Disney's short in season three it sucks because more time with this guy honestly might have made him an all-time favorite of mine life's just not fair y'all anyways this episode is neat even though cats is a pretty lamb Rebellion name the dress Steve you said a bad language word man I love lost in language conceptually this is one of the best episodes in the entire show with all these Book characters coming to life at night and I think it's a good scenario for losing Amity to start warming up to each other a bit more I like how to lose initially teams up with Amira and edrick to get in good faith with Amity before realizing they're out for revenge and deciding not to go through with it it's pretty admirable and showcases how loose knows when to put her foot down when it comes to her morals what holds this one back from being amazing would be the subplot where Eda and King have to babysit these little demon babies I just found the way it plays out to be kind of lackluster but that didn't mess up much of my enjoyment I don't know if there's much more I can say about this one it's just really fun and amazing amazing idea for a concept with an equally strong execution if there was ever a single episode that played a large role in my enjoyment of a character it would definitely have to be eda's Requiem I thought Eda as a character was okay up until this point but this episode gave her a lot more compelling backstory to work with I like how she's at her most vulnerable here she's probably the biggest Improvement in terms of character work evolving Beyond just the snarky but fun Mentor figure she's insecure about what happens when everybody she holds deer leaves Lewis already gone back to help out their mother and lose tells Eda she thinks King will leave in the end if he ends up finding his dad but it turns out the king just wanted her to adopt him which is just such a sweet moment rain is a pretty fun addition to the cast and they have great chemistry with Eda with there still being a lot of intrigue to them as well this is probably one of the best character-centric episodes of the entire show even if it doesn't come close to the unfiltered Brilliance of the episode that comes right afterwards oh and I'm getting ahead of myself you will be expelled escaping expulsion is a great episode because they reference Spider-Man no one ever said power came with responsibility in all seriousness though I think this is a rare instance of an episode being great as a character and plot-centered one it advances the story by introducing us to amony's parents for the first time having their invention eventually be collected by Emperor Bellows and introducing more Advanced Techniques with loses paper magic while also being a good way for Amity to stand up to her mom for the first time her tactical nature and manipulations used to gain the upper hand for her financial benefits and power for her image in every scenario is so messed up I really like Rachel McFarland's vocal performance as well she suits this character perfectly like brother like sister am I right I definitely wish she was on the show more since we only get one more appearance from her after this episode it would have made everybody standing up to her feel a lot more impactful it is still satisfying to see her get taken down here though great episode that I don't really have a ton of problems with in terms of the episodes that I would technically classify as filler them's the break kid is arguably the best one I always love flashbacks that take up full episodes where we get to see different sides of older characters in these familiar locations like we're told Ida was a troublemaker back in season one but actually getting to see this side of her is really cool it's also an amazing way of strengthening the bomb between her and rain I thought it was cute that we saw alador in the psychopath when she was younger for a little bit principal bump is literally the exact same as he is in the present but tinier and I love it yeah it's just a really fun concept that the show hasn't done up to this point and it's nice to see how rain shows up at the end of the movie God why the do I keep saying that and it's nice to see the rain shows up at the end of the episode vowing to make sure no harm comes either's way regardless of their status with the emperor's coven this is genuinely the best kind of Thriller this show has to offer and more than justifies its existence can you guys imagine if we got a whole spin-off series with these two during their school days it's not gonna happen but that would really be awesome snakes have impeccable taste but I can taste air most of my criticisms towards season three of this show have a little asterisk next to them the sudden shortening of it by Disney meant that Dana had to confine the story she wanted to tell over the course of an entire season into three double length episodes so I do recognize that some of the storytelling choices are less so the fault of the creative team themselves and more so having to do with an extremely limited time frame I just want you to keep that in mind when I do state some of my problems I have with these episodes in particular the weakest out of the three for me would probably have to be for the future it's a really great episode but it's the one of season three where I have the most issues with the actual story content in comparison to something like watching and dreaming where most of my problems tie back to the execution so I'll get my issues with this episode out of the way first so we can talk about the actually great stuff first of all why is Kiki here you know how in Ratatouille when the movie keeps insisting that Skinner is more important than he actually is even after being defeated multiple times that's what this feels like The Collector and Bellows are enough to raise the tension now that losing the gang have returned to the boiling Isles so why is it that this side villain with no motivation outside of blind vengeance is given this much screen time in the second to last episode of the show her entire inclusion here just feels desperate and unnecessary given how she's clearly run her course as an active threat second while I'm not entirely opposed to Basha playing a larger role it's clear that the show doesn't want her to be anything beyond a petty bully with a grudge and I don't like it they could have at least attempted to flesh her out or give her some depth and reason as to why she acts so horrible to the other characters especially Willow and yet she somehow manages to be more insufferable and irritating here now that she has a position of power then when she started out trouble with your team captain half a witch okay now for the good stuff I think that this episode does a really good job of raising the already high stakes presented to us and thanks to them we get to see more of the collector's abilities and what he's done to the boiling aisles turning everyone into puppets and yet the seeds are still there for his Redemption through the relationship he forms with King the way this episode wraps up a lot of the main characters arcs is also excellent lose finally being able to admit that all she's ever wanted is to be understood finally getting her Talisman in the process the fact that string bean is a snake is such a brilliant callback to that first episode where she gets in trouble for the exact same thing and also string bean is a snake I like snakes Hunter is able to come to terms with his identity and recognize that it won't change the relationship he has with the others Willow learns that it's okay to be emotionally vulnerable through Hunter's really touching words about how she always believed in him speaking of which I guess you guys are probably wondering do I ship Hunter and Willow it's cool it definitely works narratively I just didn't really think that it mattered that much considering how compelling and likable they both were as individuals check out sarcastic courses video on the subject matter he did an excellent job discussing his polarity and his thoughts on how it works in the show this is my least favorite episode out of season 3 but it's still really strong from the characters to the setup to the payoff yesterday V foreign she's my second favorite character in the show next to Hunter I know she doesn't have the same phenomenal writing as some of the other characters but she's just so perfect and yesterday's lie is her time to shine who would have thought that this little demon was the one pretending to be lose back on Earth anyways I love everything about this character from her tragic backstory to her personality to the bond she forms lose she's the best part but there are a lot of other things that I enjoy like the villain I can't believe his entire motivation for capturing her is to get more subscribers and verified on this universe's version of YouTube That's not how it works you ding dong trust me I tried the stuff with losing her mom was good too but I will never get over how nonchalant Camila is about her living with a demon all this time hey I get it V deserves all the love and attention in the world but I'd be freaking the out if I found out my daughter was replaced by an alien all this time you really do want to see the two of them reunite though after that scene where they try to hold each other but lose can after getting pulled up before the portal collapses it's so good this is a great episode of this show that I pretty much only rank this High because of the now that I think about it but hey it's this High isn't it doesn't really matter how it got there right watching and dreaming the series finale honestly for the number of things that needed to come to a wrap in the show by the end it's amazing that things turned out this well here there are some issues that are worth noting like Hootie basically not being in this one at all despite being one of the main characters in the show it strikes me as such a baffling narrative Choice considering how he's the only character besides ETA and king that's been there since day one Speaking of Eda and King I think the opening dream sequences with both of them are weird additions to the script it's meant to be an exhibition of their fears and the scenes themselves are well done but it doesn't feel all that relevant to the story whereas loses doubts about her role in bellows's rise to power and how it's affected the people she loves the most is essential to the way that things play out we know these are their biggest insecurities but they were kind of resolved already and ultimately played very little role in the finale itself like as much as I loved King's dad and the fact that he's objectively Peak character design his estranged relationship with King was the one emotional beat that didn't really land for me both because of how abrupt it felt as a plot development and because of King not showing any more signs of investment in this given the events of the edge of the world and yeah I'd be lying if I said the epilogue coming in the form of an end credits Montage wasn't a little disappointing but I'm sure there wasn't really a way to avoid that given the circumstances the show was under it's definitely still a worthy series finale with our Trio being reunited and finally coming together to defeat Bellows once and for all lose gets new power from the Titan and a really cool redesign and I like how despite her compassion being the thing that allows her to understand the collector better and eventually convince him to join their side that there are limits to this core aspect of her character the best scene in the episode by far is bellows's defeat watching him try to pathetically Gaslight her in an attempt to desperately get her to spare his life only for her to be completely unmoved by his words and watch as he slowly dies in the pouring range she doesn't even say a single word back to him and yet you understand everything that's going on in her mind he forced her to endure so much trauma and caused all of this destruction purely out of selfish ambition and in his dying words and trying to insist that Luz will be no know better than him if he lets him die like this she lets either rain and King finish the job for her a more than justifiable way for this character to go out after all he's an irredeemable monster overall I still really like the ending of this show seeing all the characters come together to rebuild the aisles and of course the four-year time skip honors got a new Palace man ah yeah I loved the where are they now angle that they went with here even though I wish we could have gotten more time to see it and them giving Luz a quinceanera boiling aisle style in that last shot where the collector gets a picture of all of them and damn I love this show once again a more than worthy series finale the only thing I would change about it is that it needed more V I think everyone universally agrees that Enchanted Grom fight is great and it's easy to see why not only is it an amazing parody on the concept of high school dance but this episode gave me one of my favorite sequences in the entire show lose an ammony's dance the amount of energy poured into the this moment from the buildup of lose being willing to take ammony's place as Grom Queen to the absolutely stunning visuals in the scene itself this show looks amazing overall but the amount of energy poured into the editing choreography and colors makes for such a mesmerizing scene that was and remains Monumental both in the context of this show and representation in Disney media it's just an amazing episode and I don't think I need to tell you why yeah wait to be King's tide is by far the best out of the three season finales amazing how most of my problems with this episode got fixed with the remainder of the Season well most of them the fact that Bellows has rendered pathetic and Powerless by The Collector is a bit too far considering how counter it runs to him being the final boss but the rest of this episode is top-notch offering him just the right amount of levity and intense drama seeing bellows's warped perception of morality fully consume him and turn him into a horrifying Calamity King making sure Luz and the others are safe before he and Eda are taken hostage by The Collector and the dread and emptiness that comes with lose and the others being locked out of the demon realm alright so that is kind of the best case scenario for Hunter since he doesn't have anywhere to go back to now but you can tell that the failure to save the day has broken all of their Spirits so this dramatic beat does work for me and this episode has one of only two moments in this show that almost made me cry almost but the past time remember how I said season two you fleshes out king way better than season one lo and behold Echoes of the past an episode that masterfully functions as a character study of King it's so compelling to see him have to work through his identity crisis after discovering that he's not actually the king of demons there's still an air of mystery that's present with his character and you can really see how not knowing where he came from really got to him emotionally I love how this episode opts not to have a b plot it's fit and given how this is a huge character shift for King and everything that happens is in service of strengthening it the writing here is so tight and overall I just like seeing the Man 5 hanging out there's a couple of moments between Hootie and Lilith that kind of kill the tone but for the most part this episode is astoundingly great and probably has one of my favorite endings in the entire show well you'll always be king of my heart that's good enough right yeah good night loose if you feel a little shy understanding Willow this is the part in the show where everything really started to get good after half a season where Willow merely served as a fun jovial side character this episode X really takes a deep dive into her past and her relationship with Amity not only does it do an amazing job providing Exposition for the resentment that the two of them have for each other but we get to see a brief glimpse of the psychological and emotional turmoil that Amity had to endure due to her narcissistic parents as seen in the memories she and Willow were very close when they were younger and Amity pushing her away was the result of her family thinking she wasn't a good enough friend for her daughter and as deeply apologetic and regretful as Amity seems to be by the end you still feel incredibly bad for Willow being told by a person who once was her best friend and that she's not good enough for so many years and you fully understand why there's a part of her that wants to block that person out of her life forever in the end it's a beautiful way for the two of them to gradually find a path to Healing even though Willow isn't immediately red to forgive Amity for what she did I can also talk about the cute interactions between lose and Amity here or the hilarious subplot where Gus has to choose between Eda and King for who he'll interview only to end up doing it with hoodie instead like the satisfaction of Hoodie finally getting appreciation from one of the characters is just perfect but at the end of the day this episode's emotional core is what solidified it as being my favorite episode of season one such an exceptional episode that lays the groundwork for some of the show's best character development edge of the world is shockingly phenomenal it's a perfect way to finally uncover all of the secrets of King's identity and it's a rare instance of an episode making a previous plot development work in retrospect remember that guy that showed up at the end of knock knocking on hootie's door that guy who everybody thought was King's dab well now he's back after Hootie vomited up the letter that was supposed to get to King except it turns out that this tribe of people that look like him are actually hunting for the last Titan but little do they know you're a Titan King now that is how you subvert expectations not only does this twist make perfect sense in the context of this story but it gives the only bad thing and an otherwise perfect episode a ton of great payoff and that same way he says hi to the island is just so beautiful and it's nice that it doesn't change anything between him and the rest of the gang he's still The Lovable fuzzball we all know and love and just happens to be a Titan and it's a great way to conclude this character Arc undoubtedly a banger we are entering your mind what there has never been a single episode in this show that's invoked the same amount of misery dread and horror quite like Hollow mind it starts out pretty light-hearted with Blues being loose and Hunter being Hunter and them accidentallying their way into Emperor bellos's mind this episode seems like it'll take a similar approach to elsewhere else when at first with the taking place in bellows's memories until it's revealed that Bellows knew they were in his mind the whole time leading us to the horrifying Revelations about both his and Hunter's true identities I mentioned before how easy it was to get yes that Bellows was actually Philip the whole time but it's still difficult to watch lose come to terms with this fact she went back in time to help Philip find The Collector directly affecting their future and causing him to find him the last person he needs for his diabolical plan he's already been established not to care about the casualties that come with doing what he believes is right and taking that into consideration when it's revealed what the true meaning of the day of unity is is truly haunting Bellows is willing to do whatever it takes to protect his own kind and to him that means draining the power of all witches being the polar opposite of what lose represents and what's even scarier about all of this is how much this impacts hunter from the very beginning we've seen how Bellos has groomed him and told him that he's destined for greatness by the Titans and this stroke of ego is what allowed him to be as loyal as he is but revealing that he was merely a clone of all of the golden guards that came before him and that the Titan has no interest in him after all just showcases how Bellos merely views him as Expendable a pawn in his path for Glory and as Monument really up as that is it solidified him as being a more than worthy villain of this show and more significantly this is the episode that made me realize that Hunter was my favorite character in the show behind all the toughness and trying to command is ultimately just a scared kid who's now had everything he thought he knew about himself be gone in an instant scared to the point where it causes him to break down and run off after eat is able to pull the two of them out of his mind and it's not the sort of thing you ever see depicted in children's media I don't even know what else there is to say it's just Flawless heartbreaking and terrifying but flawless can you hear me this is it minnows Peak television came from the Talking Owl show knock knock on hootie's door was and remains one of the best episodes in the entire show nearly everything this season has built up to scratch that nearly everything this show has been building up to is masterfully brought together in this episode even though understanding Willow allowed hoodie to finally get some appreciation this is a rare instance where he actually gets to be in the spotlight and it's an indicator of just how underappreciated by everybody he really is it starts out how you would expect with everyone casually ignoring him as they go about their days and you think to yourself oh this will be a standard bit of Glory for our beloved Al but this is no ordinary episode Hooters given encouragement by Lilith in one of her letters after feeling lonely and unneeded by those who reside in the owl house this causes him to actively try and help all the characters at achieving their goals that they stated King wants to learn more about where he came from either wants to learn how to gain more control over her Curse coming at the cost of her health and lose wants to ask out Amity but it initially seems like hoodie ends up making everything worse at first and it causes him to lose it yet he has no knowledge on just how good of a job he really did this time it's a brilliant way of finally rewarding him and tying many Loose Ends while also still leaving room for wanting more King discovers a new power as a result of lashing out at him for not giving him answers it's a good way of foreshadowing the might and weight of his reveal as a Titan later in the series offering up just the right amount of information we get even more excellent characterization for Eda after Hootie makes something for her that puts her to sleep there's excellent flashbacks of her life during the curse and now the repression and release of it caused her to push so many people away it builds off of the episode that comes before so naturally and watching her come to terms with his curse and recognizing that it's a part of her is so powerful one of my favorite scenes in the entire show was at the very end of her dream sequence where the color palette has shifted black and white and it's her struggling to literally maintain control of the Beast that resides inside her symbolizing the dark undertones of the burden it's been on her life only for Eda to realize that it's a part of her a somewhat messy part but one that she can learn to live with seeing the glowing orange Elixir directly contrasts the black and white visually emphasizes this so well leading to the colors finally coming back in full force and I must not forget everyone's favorite romantic Duo this just feels like the perfect time for them to finally come together after all this time every single one of these plot devices stemming from hoodie just being Hootie we all universally love this episode and it's easy to see why it doesn't feel the need to throw an exposition in action sequences at random it's just a small simple expertly crafted character-driven storyline that contains so many high points for this entire show hoodie you are a icon if I had to pick a singular episode in this show that I personally connected with like no other it would have to be reaching out and it came really close to taking the number one spot on this list up to this point the season has laid some amazing groundwork for lose and Amity as characters between lose becoming more emotionally detached from the human realm and Amity having to deal with the raised expectations set by her parents these aren't just conflicts that can be resolved in an episode or two though it's been both of their biggest obstacles and now they're finally at a place in their relationship where the show can allow them to connect with each other because of these struggles Amity wants to finally break free from her parents Shadow by actively telling her dad no I don't want to join the emperor's coven anymore I'm more than what Mom wants me to be but alador is unwilling to listen to her so she's forced to go behind his back to do the bonesborough brawl and lose wants to help her out despite amony being able to tell that something isn't quite right with her it's not until after she gets caught that loose finally reveals what's been going on today marks the anniversary of her dad's sudden passing is something she's observed with her mother by picking flowers and visiting his grave and that she wants to make things right between Amity and her father since she can't do that tradition this is how you write a romance it's easy to have characters act lovey-dovey with each other once they've become an item but watching them have to go through personal hurdles together makes a relationship all the more endearing and it's no different here it's beautiful to see the two of them acknowledge that they'll always be there for each other without fully resolving their arcs Lou still isn't able to return to the human world and Amity despite her father being ready to accept her desire to find her own path isn't quite ready to fully forgive him for letting her mother treat her the way she did all these years a subtle callback to Willow expressing the same sentiment to Amity back in season one it's an amazing detail that I hardly hear anyone talking about but surprisingly enough this episode isn't depressing by any means it still has so many of the amazing light-hearted moments that I love about the show the twins get some time to shine after a while we get to see Ed interact with king and on their journey and see how he has potential as a wild magician they bring back Warden wrath from the first episode but his inclusion doesn't feel forced to run natural he plays a large role in ITA gaining more info about rain it's such a well-realized narrative that even some of the all-time best episodes of the show struggle to reach and it's easily one of my all-time favorites okay cue the music y'all it's time for number one yeah thanks to them is my all-time favorite add to think really hard about whether or not I would give this episode the top spot on this list but everything that I love about this show is perfectly embodied in this season opener showing just how far the main characters have come from when they first started out and allowing every single relationship and plot development to be emotionally satisfying just the way it takes its time to explore the struggles these characters have had to go through after being unable to return to the boiling Isles is so captivating leading to a much slower paced episode that's able to take its time to flesh each of them out the internal complexities of whether or not lose will continue magic after all is said and done with the promise she made to her mother and how it's escalated further after doubting herself because of what she did to help Bellows accomplish his goals it allows her to empathize with Hunter's identity crisis and the potential dark side that may rest inside him they're hesitant to tell everyone their secrets out of fear of what they may think and it allows for them to bond with each other in a really Natural Way same goes for Camila when she's able to recognize why this journey of wild magic has meant so much to her daughter and eventually decides to come with her when they finally rebuild a portal I'd argue that all three of them are at their most interesting in this episode which is really saying something watching the characters navigate the human realm for the first time is so wholesome and makes for an amazing inverse Dynamic where Lewis is no longer the fish out of water in fact my favorite scene in both this episode and the entire show is in the opening when they're all able to play together in the no longer boiling rain it's such a magical moment because of how much joy is able to be conveyed in such a simple event a glimmer of hope that shows how unbreakable the bond these characters have formed is and that strength continues to be shown to us after it's revealed that Bellows is still alive and he gradually takes over Hunter and he almost dies and Flapjack ends up having to sacrifice himself you know how I said that there were two moments in the show that almost made me cry the first being King saying goodbye to losing King's tide this moment is the other one I genuinely can't believe this episode managed to get me this emotionally invested in a tiny red cardinal there really is so much more I could talk about here like that joke about giraffe monster those are all the amazing luminy moments we get or how V is once again an amazing addition to the main cast seriously she was so underutilized in this show I don't get it at all but I think I'm gonna go ahead and wrap things up by saying that thanks to them is pure magic tense emotional heartfelt and my pick for the best episode in the entire show [Music] thank you
