for many a decade the commercial Aviation sector has been dominated by Boeing and more recently Airbus but it looks like a slightly lesser known Aeronautics company from Brazil could be coming to take their Throne gliding into the big player conversations is Embraer with their E2 series of jetliners which airlines could be trooping for in the near future but what is so special about the E2 jetliner series before we get into the specs and perks of the Embraer E2 jet liner series we need to briefly learn about Embraer its parent company Embraer is a Brazilian Aerospace corporation which designs manufactures and sells all kinds of aircraft including commercial Agricultural and military if you aren't conversing with aircraft you might have never heard about them but they're actually the third largest producer of commercial airplanes after the big two of Boeing and Airbus they've also been in operation since 1969 which is over 54 years years ago now added to this they are reportedly the number one provider of regional Jets as well as the top 100 defense contractor in the world so they're not a little company by any means but if you don't live in the Americas or in Europe you could be forgiven for not knowing much about their size Embraer are especially known in the commercial aviation industry known for their uniquely designed aircrafts which all house below 150 passengers the Embraer E2 jetliner series is embraer's latest this generation of aircraft which are designed for medium- range operations they're a derivative of embraer's original EET family launched at the 2013 Paris Air Show they initially entered service on the 20th of April 2018 with Norwegian Regional carrier wior flying the e190 E2 so the E2 family are something of New Kids on the Block the family is made up of three variants namely the e175 E2 the aforementioned e190 E2 and the largest variant the e195 E2 they all come with the fuele efficient Pratt and Whitney pw1 1900g turbofan engines and share the same four abast narrow body fuselage although with different lengths the e175 E2 jetliner is the smallest of the family with a capacity of Just Around 90 passengers the first generation of this variant proved to be popular with us-based regional carriers but development of the new generation variant has been put on hold for undisclosed osed reasons the e190 E2 is next in line and this aircraft can seat up to 114 passengers in a single class configuration it also has a range of around 2900 nautical miles as well as the highest wingspan ratio of any aircraft with a factor of 11 and finally we have the e195 E2 which is the original e195 extended by three seat rows this aircraft is the largest and most popular of all three and can accommodate up to 146 passengers in a single class configuration due to its larger size compared to the e190 E2 it does come with a slightly lower range of 2655 nautical miles on paper the specs of these aircrafts are nothing really special when compared to competing aircraft such as the Boeing 77200 or Airbus a2200 but they do have some key benefits that give them an advantage when compared to other aircraft starting with a efficiency the Pratt and Whitney pure power gear turbo fans have replaced the General Electric engines from the earlier generation eets this has given the E2 jetliners a reported 17.3% boost in efficiency compared to the previous generation and a 16% performance boost against comparable aircrafts those are substantial figures for Airlines looking to save costs on fuel burn in fact the E2 is touted to be the most fuele efficient aircraft under 15 50 seats in the market the E2 aircrafts are also environmentally friendly in that they're designed to admit as little CO2 as possible by replacing the larger and less efficient aircrafts with the smaller but adequately sized E2 jetliners Airlines could reduce their carbon emissions by as much as 30% the use of sustainable aviation fuel is something the aviation industry has been gearing towards for some time now as they aim for more sustainable air travel luckily for Airlines the second generation EET series through the e195 E2 has already successfully completed a 100% sustainable aviation fuel flight test so there's High sustainability benefits with this one despite coming smaller than competing aircraft the E2 jetliners are still quite spacious on the interior this is thanks to the unique cabin configuration which doesn't sacrifice passenger comfort for improved performance or cost savings another huge advantage of the E2 aircrafts is that they can operate airports that have specific limitations like narrow or short runways this is thanks to a button in the cockpit solely dedicated to making steep approaches so they're well suited for those isolated island holiday trips and finally these aircrafts are super quiet they're arguably the most quiet aircrafts on the market and compared to a competing aircraft like the a220 It produces about 11% less noise with some airports having noise restrictions this could come in handy for a number of Airlines these benefits all look good but the reason Airlines might need to make a switch goes a bit deeper than that you see a host of European nations are seriously pushing for a lower carbon footprint and are trying their best to help the climate their push for a Greener future has also affected the aviation industry and that climate laws affecting them are being deliberated upon to ensure better environmental practices countries such as France are pushing to ban short Hall flights across locations which could be instead linked by rail within 2 and 1/2 hours or less this is an interesting proposition as 17 of the 20 busiest air routes in Europe cover distance of less than 450 Mi which would fall into this category new High-Speed Rail lines linking European nations are expected to make short Hall flights redundant across Europe even the Dutch aren't left out as the Netherlands appeal court has also pushed for plans to reduce the annual flight capacity of the Amsterdam airport by more than 10% by 2024 the aim of the ruling was to reduce noise pollution and carbon emissions thereby helping the country meet its climate goals however the ruling was met with backlash from various Airlines as a law like that could be devastating especially on smaller Airlines limiting the annual capacity would affect smaller Airlines who are trying to connect to Leading European hubs because they would face significant difficulties obtaining flight slots bigger Airlines with larger planes could just re range their capacity to meet continued demand or they could just swap slots with their partner Airlines if available another example of a government pushing for improved climate goals is Belgium Belgian authorities are reportedly set to introduce a new tax on certain aircraft such as older and noisier ones as well as private planes and short Hall Commercial Services only 12% of flights that land in Belgium are local so this tax is set to affect a lot of airlines who stop over regular l in Belgium with air pollution and carbon emissions being taxed more countries are expected to follow in this route and Airlines will be weary of maintaining their older and noisier aircrafts due to the extra costs they might incur during travel these policies being molded upon in these nations would only push Airlines towards more environmentally friendly flying and could be a catalyst to introducing a new wave of sustainable air travel which the Embraer E2 jetliners would certainly benefit from the E2 jetliners might be relatively young but as Airlines move towards doing less harm on the planet their popularity has risen over the past couple of years they delivered 62 aircraft in the first half of 2023 with 47 coming in the second quarter alone which is a 47% increase over the same period as last year it's important to note that they did deliver 113 aircrafts in the second half of 2022 so the last four quarters have seen very very positive movement for Embraer they've also announced that they've booked orders from Airlines such as American Airlines Spain's bter canaras sgas Airways Royal Jordanian Airlines and so much more American Airlines signed an order for seven e175 e2s to be operated by their subsidiary Envoy air which plan to grow their EET Fleet by an additional 140 by the end of 2024 so if you were wondering if the E2 jets would be worth it there's your answer as as the world continues to recover from the effects of the co 19 pandemic it seems Andre or have great prospects with their E2 offerings Asia is one region they could really succeed in as the demand and air travel has reasonably shot up when compared to the rest of the world their capacity and efficiency is suited for the Middle Market which is really popular in Asia and especially countries like India and Singapore they're also looking towards China who might face issues with Airbus and Boeing if geopolitical tensions persist between them and the West the main takeaway Point here is that with sustainability now a key factor in the aviation industry we could look forward to a boom for the E2 jetliners over the coming years do you also agree that Airlines will need the Embraer E2 in the future or do Airbus and Boeing have enough to once again shrug off a competitor please let us know in the comments below
