which faction should you pick when creating a new character in Eve online that's a question every player has to answer whenever they create a new character whether it's your very first one or the 10th mining alt in your own little personal Dynasty and there's a lot to consider and for new players that are brand new to the game and often know little to nothing about how the game works or any of the law behind each of the factions it can be a pretty daunting question to answer so the goal of this video is to try and make that decision a whole lot easier while also busting some of the myths surrounding your character's race and lineage and what impact they have on your character in the long run there's four main factions in Eve online known as the empires you've got the Amar Empire the kaldari state the minmatar Republic and the galente Federation and these are the four choices you get to choose from when creating a new character there's loads more smaller and pirate factions in the game too but you can only choose between the four main Empires when it comes to your character's race if you want to turn into a pirate and dress yourself up in a hardcore triglyvian hoodie to scare the civilians once you're in the game although that's completely up to you first of all let's cover the biggest misconception I see a lot of new players worrying about early on your character's race has absolutely no effect on what ships you can fly what skill books you can train or what you can do in the game any character from any race can do anything go anywhere fly any ship and train any skill so that means that even if you make an Omarion character you can instantly start training kaldari minmatar or galente ship skills as well as any of the pirate ship skills from the second you enter the world so you're not limited to Flying One race of ships just because you picked that race when you first started really the only tangible difference between each Empire when it comes to creating your character is the clothes and the bone structure and the hairstyles available in the Character Creator and also where you first spawn in in the world and even those differences are quite minor some of the Omarion sub-factions for example can choose to wear long robes with an awesome looking Hood which can be handy if you want to pretend that you're a Sith from Star Wars while some of the minmatar tribes have thinner lips and more narrow bone structures on their face and others have a more African appearance but since you can buy clothes from the in-game market and you're able to sculpt a character's facial features quite extensively the tiny differences in availability depending on your character's faction are minor at best you're also able to gain and lose standing between factions regardless of what race you are so if you as an Omarion for example run a load of missions for galente and you don't bother to skip the notorious faction missions that make you kill ships belonging to one of the other main factions in the game then just the fact that your character is a Marian themselves doesn't mean that you won't lose standing with a ma while gaining standings with galenti every pilot regardless of race pretty much starts on a blank slate with zero standings and zero ties to any of the factions so you don't have to worry thinking you're gonna make a game breaking decision as your very first choice in the game it really doesn't matter all that much so just go with the one you think looks coolest so with that little myth cleared up let's talk a little bit more about the law and what kind of weapons and ships each faction uses so that once you've made your character you'll have a vague understanding of what kind of weapon systems and tanks each faction uses and hopefully you'll have an idea as to the direction you want to focus your skill training on in your first few weeks now I'm no massive expert on the law of new Eden and I'm sure there are loads of people out there that know far more than I do and a quick Google search will bring up far more detail than I'm going to get into in this video but I believe I know enough to provide a solid understanding of what each Empire stands for and how they typically prefer to fight starting with the Amar Empire the Amar love gold they dress in Long golden cozy looking robes they live on Golden Sandy looking planets and they coat every spare inch of their ships and the stuff unfortunately as you'll soon find out none of the factions should be considered to be the good guys with the amarians being fond of a little bit of slave trading and forced breeding much to the dismay of the minmitar whose people as the law goes have suffered for centuries under the brutality of the Yamaha Empire eventually breaking free from slavery and forming their own independent republic following the so-called Great Rebellion which in turn is to the great dismay of the Amar besides being coated in gold from top to bottom the ships typically use energy lasers using Crystal ammunition that doesn't need to be reloaded and although the more advanced crystals break after a few thousand shots their basic Tech 1 ammo never runs out meaning pilots flying amarion ships don't need to bring anywhere near as much ammo as everyone else which makes them popular for destroying structures where long extended periods of firing are to be expected they prefer armor tanking which is clear from the active armor bonuses as well as the resistance bonuses given to a lot of their ships and the crazy amount of low slots for fitting really solid armor tanks though just like any other ship in the game you're free to fit them however you like though you will find they're definitely most suited to armor tanking they also have a few ships like the arbitrator and the prophecy which make use of missiles and drones but the majority of their ships are built to use energy lasers which is also their Achilles heel you see energy lasers use a lot of capacitor which is fine since amarion ships typically have huge capacitors but it makes training your engineering skills to level five even more important early on and since lasers are their primary weapon it means that if you run out of capacitor at any point your guns are going to shut off as well leaving you floating around in space looking less like a glorious deadly warbird and more like a gold-plated bathtub lasers are also limited to dealing em and thermal damage which greatly restricts the damage potential against any type of MPC or player with high em or thermal resistances making them a mixed bag of either being fantastic or terrible depending on the situation you're in still though all factions have their pros and cons when it comes to their ships and weapon systems and despite their limitations Amar is still a great choice for those looking for extremely defensive and good looking ships with low operating costs and a fair amount of Versatility some of their most popular ships include the curse the apocalypse and the magnate right now let's have a look at the Mars enemy The minmatar Republic a faction made up of multiple different tribes famously known for their ships which look like they're held together by duct tape and Scaffolding with an extra coating of rust for good measure these are the people that liberated themselves from the omarions and went from slaves to rulers of their own empire located on the east side of high security space and it's maybe not surprising to hear that they are also a sworn enemy of the Amar Empire minmatar ships are probably the most versatile of any of the main Empires when it comes to how they can be fitted almost all their ships can work well with either armor or Shield tanks and they get bonuses to Auto Cannon type weapons called projectile weapons which basically work like huge machine guns firing solid projectile ammo similar to what we use today a lot of their ships also get bonuses to missiles and some of them allow you to mix guns and missiles together to really give you that Oozy duct tape to an office chair sensation while flying around in space minotaur's projectile weapons are best known for their ability to quote fight in fall off which basically means they're less affected by a Target being further outside of their optimal range compared to something like a blaster or an energy laser and that's something that can give you an edge in PvP in certain circumstances because it allows you to better dictate the range of a fight with the end goal of hitting your enemy without them being able to hit you or at least not for full damage also none of their weapons require any capacitor to use so you cap can be bone dry but your guns will keep on cycling till the end in typical awesome cowboy style projectile weapons are capable of dealing all four damage types using different types of ammunition so that means they can deal Em thermal kinetic and explosive damage by loading the right kind of ammo which does make some of their ships useful for running missions and doing other PVE related stuff but ultimately compared to all three other factions Minotaur lacks outright tanking ability which makes them a fairly unpopular choice for certain PVE situations where they're going to be expected to need to tank a lot of damage for a prolonged period of time that's not the case for a hundred percent of their ships with the cyclone and the Maelstrom getting huge bonuses to active Shield tanking that use capacitor to actively repair your Shield HP but in general Minotaur are known to be extremely handy for high damage hit and run style tactics in PvP and slightly less suited to solo PVE engagements and because of the wide amount of guns missiles shield and armor modules that they can use on their ships it's also one of the more challenging factions to fly as a new player because of the sheer amount of skills needed compared to the other nations which are more focused on top of that the areas that they live in namely their primary trade hubs called renz and heck are typically the least productive markets in the game and they're quite far away from the busier areas making prices and availability in Minotaur space more uncertain and generally higher than in other major trade hubs like Amar Jito and the Dixie still despite all of that and combined with numerous Nerfs they've had applied to them over the years Minotaur ships are still the number one choice for pirates that want to get in smash their targets and get out as fast as possible and there's no shortage of people that fly them religiously popular minmatar ships include the stabber and the stabber Fleet issue The Tempest made famous by the awesome fun made miniseries clear skies the rifter and the hurricane Okay so we've covered the Amar and the minmatar which typically reside in the more Southern areas of high SEC but now it's time to venture further north and talk about the kaldari and galante starting with the kaldari the kalari state is basically an authoritarian militaristic capitalism try saying that with a mouthful of fish and they're ruled entirely by Mega corporations and their space is home to the largest trading Market in the game known as Gita 4-4 Gita is so big and so crucial to the game's economy that pretty much any item or ship you buy will at some point or in some way have its origins in Jita and that one system has probably had more impact on Eve's economy over the years than all of the thousands of other solar systems combined the caldari have been at war with the galente for many years similar to the conflict between Amar and minmatar except kaldari's war with galente is more focused on simple land disputes rather than some underlying slave trade or any deeper cultural issues their ships use Shield tanks and missiles almost exclusively though they do have a handful of ships that give bonuses to hybrid weapons such as blasters and railguns which work exceedingly well as long range artillery platforms missiles are extremely versatile and they can deal Em thermal kinetic and explosive damage just by loading different Warheads into the launchers themselves whereas the hybrid turrets they can use can only deal thermal and kinetic though typically the damage output is much higher than any other weapon which makes up for the lack of Versatility in terms of damage types especially when it comes to Blasters which are kind of similar to shotguns which can out DPS and absolutely melt the face of anything you bump into provided you can get close enough to hit it now caldari ships are by far one of if not the most popular ships for PVE content because of their crazy strong active Shield tanks the fact that even their light missiles that you can use on frigates can reach out to 40 plus kilometers away with cruise missiles that you'd put onto a battleship reaching out to 200 kilometers away and that high number of medium slots makes them the best choice for Passive Shield tanking which basically lets you actively repair your Shield HP while in combat in a similar way to an active tank but without needing to use any capacitor to do it and although hybrid turrets do use capacitor if you fit your ship with missiles then you can ultimately keep on tanking and firing all day long even with no power left in your capacitor which means your only concern is whether or not you brought enough ammo to last the fight I think caldari ships are the most popular in the game overall if I'm not mistaken and you'll see no shortage of them flying around in space with some of the most popular choices including the caracal missile Cruiser the Heron scanning ship and the Raven missile battleship kaldari is also the only faction in the game with ships dedicated to Target jamming ECM modules like the Blackbird the Falcon scorpion making them a popular choice for electronic warfare last but not least the galente Federation King of the drones and Masters Of The Blasters quite proud of that one I wrote it myself if any of the empires were up for a reward for being the good guys then it would be the galante though it really depends on how you feel about a liberal Society where equality and human rights are held in high regard and everyone's free to get rich and make a name for themselves but not everyone does and those that don't make it often become poor and stuck in a cycle of poverty while the rich continue to get richer the galente value Liberty above all else and that's why when combined with their solid symmetrical ship design High DPS potential and good all-round combat ability for both PVE and PVP they make a really popular choice for new players looking for the closest thing they can find to the alliance in the unforgiving landscape of new Eden I guess that makes the Dixie the space version of Stormwind still putting your political inclinations aside nothing says don't mess with me better than a shotgun blast to the face at point-blank range followed by releasing a swarm of Relentless autonomous drones to finish them off and the lineup of armor focused ships that can take a serious beating that is what galante ships do best and no matter what ship you're flying running into a galante ship in PvP is generally pretty scary although most of any faction ships in the game bigger than a destroyer can use drones to some extent galente is really the only faction that uses them as the main source of damage in the majority of their ships with exception to a couple of Omarion ones with their ships often giving a substantial boost to drone damage and hit points making them hit like a freight train especially considering they can also use hybrid weapons like blasters and railguns like the kaldari but before ego signing up to galente ready to rain hell on anyone that looks at you funny in the name of Freedom there is a catch drones are the only source of damage in the game that can be killed without needing some sort of specially fitted ammo like defensive missile ammo if someone for example fires a missile or a projectile at you there's not really much you can do about it but if someone releases a swarm of drones on you you can just lock up the drones and kill them one by one as if they were players themselves effectively disarming your opponent before eventually turning on their ship and finishing them off though I might have just made that sound easier than it actually is to counter that little flaw in their ability to deal damage galente drone boats as they're called often have huge drone Bays that can be filled with spare drones so if one dies or even if a full flight of five die they can generally just deploy another one and another one and another one and so on and although you could just keep killing the drones that they send out that's typically easier said than done considering you're also having to tank the damage that the drones are dealing and the damage from whatever hybrid turrets the ship itself is firing at you and every second you spend killing a drone is a second you're not dealing any damage at all to the enemy ship itself so although drones can be killed nine times out of ten it's not really a problem for most galante Pilots galante ships are another really popular option for both PVE and PVP content thanks to the long range and high damage output of most of their ships and the huge versatility of drones that allow them to switch out between anti-frigate light drones all the way up to sniper-like Sentry drones that can hit out to 150 plus kilometers and unlike most other factions with exception really only to minmatar the galente get the best lineup of industrial ships for hauling stuff around with ships like the nerius and the miasmos and the epithol getting exclusive bonuses for certain types of material like ore and minerals that lets them transport way more than a regular Tequan hauling ship the vexer the myrmidon and The Dominics probably make up the backbone of galante ships flown by players with a focus on drone Warfare with the thorax Talos and megathron able to out DPS almost anything at point-blank range using their hybrid turrets so as you can see the question of which faction is best is a little bit deeper than initially meets the eye and there's probably no definitive answer each faction has its own unique way they prefer to fight with each method having pros and cons that you'll need to learn if you want to get really good at the game and these were just the four main factions like I said at the start of the video there's tons of other smaller and pirate faction developed ships in the game like the Gila and the Daredevil that need ship skills from two different Empires to be able to fly so at some point you will have to cross train between various Empires the key thing to remember is that the race you choose when you're first starting out doesn't limit or restrict what you can do fly or train in any way shape or form regardless of whether you're an alpha or Omega pilot so just go with the race that you think looks coolest and then decide which way you're gonna go and what skills you need to train once you've tried a few different things and started to find your feet in the world also be careful listening to anyone saying you should train all your engineering skills to level 5 before doing anything else and don't blindly follow any of the numerous guides talking about the so-called magic 14 skills that help make you a more efficient pilot in any ship you fly because although the info they're giving you is right I'm not saying that those skills aren't vital and won't help you because they absolutely will but what I mean is that they're created as optimal skill training plans by Veterans for newly created alts and they're not really all that applicable to a brand new player the people you'll meet telling you to train two months of skills before you can even start playing the game properly have generally been a veteran for so many years that they've completely forgotten what it was like being a new player and they I guarantee did not follow an optimal skill training path because it's just not possible or viable when all of your skills are practically level zero as a new player you can't fly anything or do anything efficiently and being stuck in that state while you just sit around waiting for months of engineering skills to complete isn't exactly Peak fun so just try things out before you go making any big decisions or committing to length skill plans go mining try exploring join a player Corp head to Null Sec and check it out get yourself killed doing something stupid do whatever floats your boat and that's the best way to learn the game and you'll also soon start discovering what you're more interested in than everything else and at that point it's a good idea to focus your skill training plan and optimize yourself for whatever it is you've decided to do so engineering skills and all the magic 14 skills are extremely useful but maybe just find what you want to do first and start having fun with the game to make sure you want to play it before worrying about following the most optimal skill training plan but yeah that was a brief look at the four main factions in Eve online I hope you found it helpful and if you're new to the game or you're thinking of creating an ALT consider signing up or signing in using our recruitment Link in the video description below to receive 1 million free skill points which can help get a lot of the boring engineering skills out of the way early so you can focus on the more fun stuff like ships and guns and then more guns and then more ships in return for signing up through our link should you decide to subscribe to an Omega account later on I receive a small in-game reward which well it doesn't really help the channel grow or anything like that it's just kind of cool subscribing helps the channel grow though oh you should do that too thanks for watching
