[Music] hello and welcome to the camp hike rome channel today we'll be discussing things that i bring when i go on a day hike the scenario here is that i'll be leaving very early in the morning hiking all day for even 8-10 miles and finishing by dinner time so we need to fit lunch snacks all kinds of things in there we'll be breaking these items down by clothing and gear fruit items emergency items and personal items so let's get started with the clothing item this is what i normally wear when i go hiking whether it's warm or cold so i've got my long sleeve hoodie here it's very thin material helps a breeze and more importantly it protects me from the sun under that i have another tentacle shirt that helps uh wick away sweat long pants always wear long pants again protection from the sun hats protection from the sun sunglasses again protection from the sun see a theme here the sun does not like me and i burn easily so i try to cover up as much as i can i prefer not using sunscreen um because you know it just makes you feel sticky and gross so so instead i sweat and become sticky it's gross doesn't matter i do have hiking shoes you can't see them there i did have boots but i kind of been going towards the shoes lately they are more comfortable and they they don't ride up and make my ankles sweat and here's my pack so uh i've got three liters of water on board uh it depends on how far i'm going but normally i bring the three leaders because i like to have just enough just in case uh got different pouches uh i like this one i could use a little bit more padding in the shoulders but it works for me so now we'll go discuss the other categories these are all the items that i fit inside my pack this is the food category emergency items and personal category let's now dive a little deeper into each one we'll start with the food category since i'll be gone most of the day and i'll need a trail lunch here's my my lunch i got uh tuna i like the deli style tuna and i mix it with another pouch of the regular tuna and it provides lots of some good calories protein and it's very tasty i typically put it on a tortilla that one's whole wheat with some spinach and i have an apple with it for dessert there's some water i carried three liters into my pack here's another bottle of water that i have these little mixing things in i like to kind of change it up i've got several different flavors and i mix my water in here rather than in my pack because i don't want my pack to taste like this for the next three years i also have some trail munchies i've got peanuts they're a good salty snack they'll replace the salts that you sweat out these are dates they travel very well and they're very good nutritious for you a little sport that i got i don't remember which fast food place but i picked them up and throw them in my pack good and handy for the tuna and some nutrition bars these are kind of just snacking on the way if i need anything uh it's usually more than the food that i'll need for the day but i do like having some extra food just in case which brings us to the emergency category for emergencies uh you never know you could get lost something could happen and you may have to spend a night out there so and that we have an emergency blanket i don't remember where i got this one i've had this for quite a while so keep it warm if you need it a little tiny roll duct tape you never know when you're going to need to repair something you need that my compass a friend gave this to me you'll probably want a better compass but it will tell you which direction you're going uh a multi-tool i like this one because i'm in the desert and i may need to pull uh thorns or cactus out of me so that's what that's for uh bobby pins these are for emergency repairs uh the strap breaks on your pack you can put it back together with those something to light a fire with i do have this sparker i prefer bringing a lighter but it's good to have a backup just in case uh because if something in your pack hits this lever all the gas is gonna come out and you'll have a piece of plastic so this will help to light a fire uh make sure you practice with this and you kind of know how to use it a flashlight uh i typically carabiner this to the front of my back so i have something just in case if i'm out there at dark first aid kit uh the first aid kit's got your it's your typical you know you get it from the and it's about any store that has all your bandages and ointments and ibuprofen alcohol wipes that kind of thing it doesn't need to be a big one but just so you have the essentials in there in case you have to pull out a cactus and you need to manage your leg and a rain poncho i always have rain poncho no matter what the weather so you'll be good and ready over for our personal items we'll start down here this is the a map i always have a map of where you're hiking this one happened to be chirakawa national monument the last place i was at you can go to the visitor center and they have maps freely available so go ahead pick one up whether you need it or not it's good to have uh i wear glasses reading glasses and i wouldn't be able to read anything without glasses so i do have glasses that i wear and bring with me this is an emergency pair that i keep it's in the bottom of my pack all the time never had to use it but it's there in case sunscreen is a little bottle and i like the little bottles because they fit right inside your pack no problem [Music] sanitizing gel uh you know got to keep yourself clean before you eat your your lunch after a day of hiking uh wait to charge your phone uh i bring i'm recording on my phone right now but you'll probably have your phone with you so you want to have a way to recharge your phone if you get stuck out there for longer than you expected so that's it for that and this paper towels these are can be used for with your lunch or blowing you knows or if something emergency happens and you need to uh use the restroom you have something to clean up afterwards with and those are the things that i bring on a hike with me thank you for watching my video
