Needs to be said for the young heads.

Rakim completely changed the way people rapped. Pretty much NOBODY was rapping or writing rhymes the way Rakim did before he came out, and everyone after him did.

It was an absolute immediate shift in how hip-hop music was made, particularly among Rappers.

love the barebones production of 80s hip hop songs like this. this song is a single drum loop and a 3-second horn sample but has so much expression and space. sounds futuristic how unconcerned it is with any sort of bassline or progression
