good morning got a couple hours to spend out in the shop so today we're going to keep working on the 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit uh that I picked up you'll you can see in the last video uh brought it home cleaned it up a little bit got it unloaded pulled in the garage so today the goal is to get the hood fenders bumpers tail lights tailgate all that stuff off of there so that way I can really do a final assessment of all the rust um found some more rust uh since we got in the garage um again not scared away bu it it's just going to take some work I have a pretty ambitious goal for this truck to get it running and driving this summer so uh we have a lot of work to do um after I get a strip and figure out what we got to start doing for Bodywork wise uh then I'm going to get the motor and trans out of there um and get that all set up I want it to be a pretty clean straight shell I'm not looking for a show truck quality by any means I just want to be a good quality driver um so let's get to work a [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] he [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] a [Music] [Music] [Music] n [Music] a [Music] [Music] a [Music] oh [Music] [Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh a [Music] he [Music] [Applause] [Music] n [Music] n [Music] a [Music] he [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] n [Music] [Music] sh [Music] I use some Rust reformer on the uh around the windshield just try to help there's some Rust back there not too bad uh over here is the worst part which is expected but if you're just around and up coat it so it's should be pretty clean I'll probably sand it again before I paint it um but just wanted to get something on it to help convert the rust a little bit right now we're taking a walk to the uh back of the property uh I'm going to go to one of my parts cars and see what I have that can be used on the 80 uh mostly around the windshield cuz we got those two broken I'm sorry I'm broken rusted through spots so I'm going to see if I have anything I can use on there cuz it'll save a lot of time trying to like shave metal which reminder I've never done body work before so this is all fresh and new for me should be fun so unfortunately on the driver side this one has the exact same root hole as my a so not really much I can do there but this side's in good shape so this whole pillar so I'm going to try to cut out as much of this pillar as I can uh to try to weld it into the 0 [Music] [Applause] [Music] a [Music] well I'm out of time for today pretty happy with the progress we got all the bumpers off tail lights the vents the tag lights uh didn't pull the tailgate off but you don't need any tools for that you just lift it up uh got the windshield out which that's a huge one um and got over here cleaned up a little bit more uh taking down the bare metal I put some quick primer on it just so it doesn't get any surface rust on it and also got this one out now clean it up I do have a rust hole here um but I'm hoping maybe I got to measure it and double check if I cut further up I'll be able to use this piece and kind of section and weld it in hoping for the best the uh worst case scenario I'll get some metal and I'll try to put it in and shape it but like I said I have no idea what I'm doing still have these spots over here one two and three through the side here and this spot this spot's a big one for me I'm not 100% sure what I'm going to do yet I have a few ideas uh I have my brother checking another parts car we have over his place just to see if there's something I can use there but all in all I think it's looking pretty straight the rest is kind of just sanding I got to do something about the bottom there but the ultimate goal is just to be a good goodlook driver not a show truck by any means like I said before but thanks for watching Remember to like comment subscribe uh if you like seeing the 80 let me know because I'm going to be pretty invested in this thing but thanks for watching uh hopefully I see you at the VW slot meet in New Jersey it's this upcoming Saturday so unfortunately the way the videos come out where I'm about a week behind so hopefully I saw you at the VW slot meet I uh I was in the Panama I'm planning on bringing the Panama I'm hoping for the best it's about an hour and a half away from the house I'm not expecting any real issues so if there is you'll know thanks a much see you next time [Music] [Applause] [Music] what's up guys so I was inside doing dishes daydream about driving the rabbit on Saturday going to the swap me uh and then I realized last time I drove it to work my header cracked uh right off the manifold where the tube comes down it cracked right off the back of it so it just kind of vibrating like crazy the exhaust L doesn't bug me too much cuz it's so loud what's the difference but the rattle is horrendous uh so I'm going to rush to try to tack that up real quick so at least it doesn't rattle so I can drive it this week luckily this intakes my h on my four bolts [Music] [Music] if you look real close you can see it [Music] so I'm going to clean that up and get that all welded up real quick should be good enough grab some tin foil I'm going to shove it in the intake hole just hope I don't get any W splatter in there all right [Music] all right no fires right no fires nope it's hot all right definitely not my best work but not bad pass good [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] not my best work but I'm not upset about it I think I was out here for all of 10 15 minutes my fiance's inside still going through the whole bedtime routine with my son so uh that's it for tonight I get to drive the car to work tomorrow uh thanks for watching like comment subscribe for more nonsense uh I got to get inside and help thanks for watching [Music] oh [Music]
