[Music] hello and welcome to the ruth loves to knit podcast i'm ruth and i love to knit you're very very welcome here on the 24th of november 2021 um if you're a new viewer you're very very welcome so glad you found me and if you've been here before you know what to expect um i said maybe i should change this to ruth the title of this podcast to ruth's ramblings but um i hope you're um you've got a cup of tea or a cup of coffee a new knitting or crocheting or whatever your your hobby is and we'll have a wee bit of time together this morning um i don't know what happened since the last podcast but i seem to have had a real injection of new subscribers and i'm so thankful for that i don't know if somebody mentioned me on their podcast i don't know if youtube were just being super nice to recommend on me but if you're new here as i say you're really really welcome and i thought i'd just reintroduce myself just two seconds um of who i am as i said my name is ruth it's in the title um i live in devon in south west england although you can hear from my accent i'm originally from northern ireland i live here with my husband nigel who's originally from southern ireland just outside kilkelly and my two children samuel is 11 to be 12 next month that's the only world event is happening next month never mind christmas uh my daughter eva is uh 13 so samuel and eva are our kids and they're at school today my husband is uh just about to go out our little dog honey might make an appearance with a few barks but that's us that's us we live here we are working for a christian mission called the faith mission and we just are here serving the lord um in this part of the of england um what else would you would you want to know i'm obviously an avid knitter um used to be an avid cross stitcher um very for many many many years i've dabbled with crochet there'll be some of you laughing at that um but knitting is my first love and nothing has made me so many friends i'm so thankful i wasn't going to do this podcast you know who you are who encouraged me and i have to admit i want to thank you for that as i said i would never do a podcast but it has brought me so many friends so many lovely relationships put me in contact with so many people i would never have met otherwise just sitting here in my little spare room and way down the south of south of england and i'm so thankful for that and i don't take it for granted either i know there's so many fabulous podcasts much more professional than mine out there and i just want to thank you so much for pressing that subscribe button pressing that like button whatever and leaving me a message too that has been fantastic as well and so where can you find me um on instagram i've actually changed my um instagram moe but not much to ruth loves to knit podcast instead of just ruth loves to knit um i'm not going to show my kids on there anymore um i just want to keep them safeguarded so um i just have sort of knitting and doggy things and um silly things like that also my kids are at the point in their lives where they don't want their photographs taken anyway so it was just a natural progression so ruth loves to knit podcast um and i'm on ravelry as crafty mad midwife as i was a midwife for many years and um you i also have an email um which is ruth loves to knit at gmail.com and please feel free maybe don't contact me on ravelry um i'm kind of just using it as a as a shopping area for patterns um but feel free to contact me on my email or my instagram and i will get back to you and you can contact me about anything and that's great so that's we've been about us where we're where we are how you can fight me and um a bit tongue-tied this morning i've actually got a cup of coffee here this morning which i don't normally drink in the podcast but i feel i need it this morning um it's in my lovely probably not come up very nice um this is um pottery that my mother-in-law gave us for our wedding we're married 15 years so it's held up very very well um and it's from a little local potter in um a little the time they live in called castle comer and now there's a pesky fly in this room too so we've got lots of company this morning and i just love it it's one of my favorites i need a big cup of coffee i can't have a small cup of coffee i need a big cup of coffee so i've got coffee this morning so i might be even more rambly and wired than i normally am so what else do we need i've always got my notes because as you can tell being from northern ireland i could talk for a while and go off on a million tangents and we'll just keep to the notes i think so oh the other thing i really wanted to say was thank you so much for the lovely comments you left me about my granddad um if you didn't watch last time um and every time i always do a little epilogue kind of thing at the end just to share a bit about my faith and this last time i spoke about my grandfather who was killed in the war and i i just was touched by all the lovely comments and so many of you left for my granda shaw so thank you very very much for that too then oh i said i had an injection of subscribers i have gone over the 2k subscribers on youtube even saying it out loud my goodness and of course it's tradition to do 2k giveaway but then i have my one year anniversary on the fifth of january so what's a girl to do well i have a lovely prize package put together but i'm sure whatever whatever country you live in is probably the same the world over at christmas time um december postage is mad and um uh i don't want to risk putting a lovely package in the post to somewhere in the world and for not to arrive um so what after discussing it with my uh gurus these are my friend my netty friends i've decided to leave it and show you it in my december podcast and then post it out uh pic pick winners and post it out in january i think and this nice week pick me up after the christmas festivities um when it's a bit gray and dull in january and you'll get a nice week but we get a nice sweet partial through the post so that's my decision but excuse me i don't take it for granted that um again as i said that you've all tuned in so there'll be maybe a wee reward for somebody um maybe by january you'll have maybe have two rewards you never know but i'm actually looking at it it's on the there behind the camera but i'll show you in the next podcast um the other question um i've had is will i be doing vlogmas excuse me uh no uh primarily because i don't want to sorry that sounds awful if you've seen any of my little videos at the start of my podcast i don't have a steady hand um i will leave it up to the many many vlogmas type people who thrive on it if you want to see me shouting at my son to get out of bed in the morning if you want to see me washing my dishes if you want to see me um chasing around after a dog um cleaning my house that's about the height of the excitement of my week we have a few um things planned with our mission and the kids aren't involved in that much um it's christmasy stuff um so i think that's my disclaimer i'm gonna leave it for this year um i just think yeah i'll enjoy everybody else's and not torture you with my nonsense but i will podcast again in december and i was thinking maybe um in that criminal limbo week between christmas and new year maybe do some some wee thing then but who knows that's a long way away isn't it um i say apologize there is a buzzy fly in here um so hopefully not bother us too much and i'll not bother him um sorry there's lots of admin before we even get started the other thing is and i've heard a lot of other podcasters saying this i have been getting comments under my videos and when i go to click on them they disappeared so i really hope that that's not you and i really hope that you're not offended if i haven't answered it's happened several times in the last few videos so apologize if that's happened to you i don't know why i'm not technically minded so i don't know why that's happening to apologize um and i want to say before i forget to all my lovely american viewers have a very happy thanksgiving tomorrow it's obviously not a thing that we celebrate here in the uk but i have celebrated many times with lovely american friends and the different countries i've lived in um overseas and i can appreciate it and i think it's a real shame in some ways that we don't have some sort of thanksgiving day um in the uk but um i have so much to be thankful through this podcast and i just pray that you all have a very safe and lovely thanksgiving day um tomorrow in the us or if you're american in other parts of the world and lastly in the world shattering news if any of you have seen my instagram or have watched previous podcasts you'll know my dream one day is to have a cottage in the woods with a roaring fire a rocking chair wearing my knits well i'm getting there i've got my knits and my husband sourced a rocking chair for me off facebook marketplace so i am now the proud owner of a rocking chair which i have got to sit in about three times because the rest of the family including the dog love it as much as i do um but i am very pleased with my rocking chair very much second hand could be third or fourth hand who knows my husband's just ordered wax to re to re-wax it for me and um i am as happy as larry with my uh rocking chair i don't care if someone cool i don't care if it makes me ancient i absolutely love it i love that i'm at the age i might have a big birthday next month i know it's not 60. not next year sorry i know it's not 60. um and um i uh i am just glad i'm at the age where i just don't care anymore if i like it that's all that matters so that ramble and we're 10 minutes in i keep looking at the timer because i've started recording this a couple of times and my videos just stopped so i did what everybody does i turned my ipad off and on and it seems to be working at the moment so we'll keep away eye on that all right i have to calm down i'm just excited to see us all and have to calm down oh there's the dog barking anyway so what will we start with f hos isn't that the tradition oh i'm going to have to start with this because i'm absolutely hot enough it's been we've really had beautiful autumn days here in devon it's really shaping up it's a bit misty still but it's shaping up to be another bright crisp autumn day here and um so we've actually imagined 24th of november and we've actually put the heating on this morning for the kids getting out of bed on yesterday morning so i am very warm it's a very small room the door's shut to keep the noise out and um i am quite warm the heating's off now of course but um so i'm going to show you this ridiculous thing and then i'm going to take it off so this is my you'll probably recognize that straight away this is my slipstravaganza in the most ridiculous color scheme but you know he said use whatever you want and actually the dress that i've got on there is a wee bit of i may not be able to see it let me see there is a wee bit of the color in um coming through in the dress that i've got on so do you know what stephen west you know go mad do what you want but this was uh last year's um mystery not alone wasn't it yeah it's about the wackiest one i've got and i quite like it and i have worn it out but it's coming off for today so i i don't even remember what i knitted in it was five five skeins yeah five skeins of totally different not the same makers um i think that me seeing was in there i think oh it's on i think it's on my route i think it might be one of the ones that's on my rivalry um but let's face it you're not going to want to create recreate this anytime soon are you and my dad was joking that i am covering both northern ireland and southern ireland with my colors so i'm sorted wherever if i go home or if i go to my husband's house i'm sorted so that's my wacky knit of the day and then slipstravaganza from stephen west just throw it down there that's fine so efos well last week you saw that i was knitting a wee pair of socks for a lovely viewer and those are finished um it's actually not even coming out that's it that's perfect let me just show you one at a time and that'd be a good idea now um i'll show you the yarn so this was given to me in a yarn swap um fan it's office overs yarn that flies away on me over yarn and the colorway is bag end and it's 80 bfl 20 nylon and um that's then finished but i was talking to tony who they're for and it's just you know you just doubt yourself and she's only a size five and i'm a size eight so i'm used to knitting you know 64 on a 2.5 and um the fit great and even the color work socks i showed you last time had to do 72 stitches but i really took a panic and thought because i did 64 on a 2.25 now i've got i think i've got the length of the foot right but took a bit of panic massager said what do you normally knit your socks on and she said 60 on a 2.25 so these are done anyway and there might be something else in the whips just in case i'm hedging my bet my bets and but that's just just a pair of vanilla socks the usual anna the umbrella toe that i always do so that's the first finished object the second finished object was a test knit for the lovely jam of under the olive tree knits i'll show you the um the photograph that's on the pattern she's picked lovely autumnal it's called i think i forgot to tell you last week it's called the across the valley show and it's it's coming out i think it's this saturday for yorkshire yarn fest and she said um it was on instagram i think there even might be um a discount code with it but i if you if you like it i would knit it i have knit a lot of gems one skein shawls and i was joking with her obviously there's quite a few people in the test knit grip and i was joking with her that don't tell the other shows but this one might be my favorite and i used stuart yarns i'm not going to embarrass myself with the names again um they were laughing at me that um i was getting all these names pronounced wrong but this is her card stuart yarn she's up in inverness um well actually this one is on my rivalry too i always put obviously obvious obviously always put um test knits on ravelry because that's you know that's prerequisite so you can see the lovely texture slip stitches and then the mosaic and then the lovely lace can you see that i think you can you see it hard there you go absolutely gorgeous and i really do think this is one of my favorites uh but i've knit of gems and i might be another one i would say there'll be another one of these in it and i do i love um appointed you know a good point on the end of it and i absolutely love it and this is this yarn is just a pleasure it's so squishy with the um slip stitches and it just coordinates beautifully you can see just gorgeous so i'm thrilled to have that finished and it was a great project sorry russell it's a great project for using it while you're yarn because that's all i've got left this is we 20 this was 100 and this was a hundred so um they'll just be put into um well they actually yes they've got nylon in them they'll be put into haze toes and cuffs so that's the across the valley gorgeous absolutely gorgeous i live and hope that this will be my thumbnail but who knows and um yes have check her out on the yorkshire yarn fest um on saturday i think it's 9 00 a.m she's all so um i look forward to wearing that now it's always these our podcasters always keep everything good till we show on the podcast is not right and last but not least i don't know what you consider a finished object to be is it that you've got it off the needles is it that it's absolutely blocked everything well this one is off the needles and everything everything's sewn in but not blocked and it is the brush strokes again i put a picture up here actually because i've only got a black and white picture um and it's brush strokes by tiff nylon i think maybe my tiffany obsession is calming down no a wee bit i don't think of anything else i've heard on the needles at the minute if although if you could see this pile you'd think are you not good enough on the needles and um this is i finished oh do you remember it last week i said i'm a child of the six i'm a child of the 70s i don't know why i said the 60s i was born in 1972 so oh brain freeze and i said i know i'm a child of the 70s uh but maybe this is a bit too much brown but i love it i've tried it on and i absolutely and obviously it needs blocked out the color work all needs blocked out um she wrecking still a stitch marker she recommended um style as these really long cuffs but she recommended 6.5 inches and i that would have been down past my fingers so and even yeah it's a wee bit baggy nice to be a bit of a detail there should we nap i think just pull that in um and i think that was enough i did five inches and then obviously it's not blocked please i'll show you again it's blocked but that's the beautiful lace at the bottom let's work at the bottom and it goes this sort of you know omni's blocked out obviously i'll say that a few more times can i say blocked out a few more times and that and the um hem will be curved too you'll have seen it on the photograph so it is literally the coziest thing in the world but yet as light as a feather it's just perfect absolute perfect and the neckline sits beautifully and everything so um and i say i want to wear this over probably dresses like this um just as a weak cover up but i was trying it on for length and i'd put in um okay i've had where if i put the bag here everybody's talking about these but i've had these quite a while um these wires i got mine from all the packets here look it's not something i got mine from knit and living and i had the small ones probably i've had the small ones nine months maybe um um but i about a few weeks ago i ordered the larger sizes because i'm knitting so much with dk now and honestly if you don't have them get them that's all i can say and it's just these however like why didn't we think of this before you don't have to take the needles off you don't have to unscrew things you don't have to put all the stitches back on you just attach these this oh we hole to the end of your needle and you just pull it through your stitches try it on pull your needle back through and take it off and it's so simple compared to tying the end caps on your needles and all the rest of it but anyway all that to say i was trying to all in front of them are just to see because it says you know you have to knit to so many inches um before you know you want it to finish and i had a yellow dress and a mustard yellow dress and my daughter says mommy you look like winnie the pooh i think she meant it as a compliment and endearing but i sort of oh okay so she thought i looked like winnie the pooh but now there's a bit more length on the jumper hopefully hopefully that's not the description she'll use so anyway that is the brush strokes by tiff and the yarn i used and it i think she's very very liberal with her yarn amounts um because i did a gauge swatch shock her and i still have it should have been um two skeins of one and five skeins of the other now these schemes from witchcrafty living are good generous skins and of 250 of dk pool deal pool deal dk um and um it's the colorway chocolate i think it's a beautiful oh it's gorgeous it's just not it's very tonal just beautiful and i only i have a full one of those left and that much of the other one left so really really good and i'm i'm a size seven which is you know a big sweater and then um the other one i used is from midwinter yarns and i'm not going to try it it's norwegian obviously um there's no colorway on it and it's dk at approximately 260 meters that's a good really good um yardage too and i think it was less than i think it was like nine pounds or something um and i have this much left of that one so very very economical jumper and roasty toasted yet light and airy you know and always i always put away just a wee tie thing to let me know the back i must get some of those nice labels that says this is the back and hopefully that will block out they what the color work will be lovely and i'll be able to wear that and remember to take the stitch markers off and that of course is in my lovely big um sweater bag from um oh just on the tip of my tongue so kanjo sorry um she did those for a for a yarn festival she doesn't have a she doesn't have a shop but if you message her on at socanjo on um instagram she's got quite a few beautiful bags and it's just perfect for a dk sweater ever i like to have you know even if they're not wind up i like to have all the skeins everything in my bag needles um your notions everything in my bag and that's just perfect and then draw strings shut so that's that so that's to my mind that's a finished object sorry i think it just knocked you um my mind that's a finished object but obviously it needs to be better pulling them pushing and soaking before i can let wear it so oh the other thing was oh not be able to reach over bear with me one more second sorry i'm sure that's not a very nice view one other thing i did want to show you is the lateral braid i have done latvian braids but i've never done a lateral braid before and i think it i'm not sure it's the best because it's the first time i've ever done it but i think it just looks beautiful it's not really effective sorry you had to see my backside probably get and that i followed a really really good um i struggled to eat but i'm a very visual person so i struggled a wee bit with the written um instructions but there's so many obviously youtube has so many great tutorials on that um and i just think it's so effective so that's the first time i've done a lateral braid what else to say oh and i did the whole thing in continental style nitin go me because it was all knitting i didn't try purlin um yeah i just thought i'm still getting just a wee bit of shoulder pain from time to time and i just thought well let's do a whole garment and you'll have practice by the time i get to the end so the whole thing was done in continent and continental style but it's definitely not my favorite sorry i still prefer my my english throwing style but uh there you go everybody's different aren't there so next um we'll go on to active whips i'm going to say just active whips yeah so um the socks i did for for tony are there um and then a panicked as i said and we're not in our house we don't put our decks bar decorations up very early and they come down as soon as i can get them down but i do love my christmas project bags and that's a wee one from woolly knit they're just a wee tiny tiny label and um last year i was very very blessed to do a yarn swap christmas box yarn swap with lovely ellie from craft house magic who's just had a wee baby jensen congratulations at ellie and adam um craft house magic and she spoiled me rotten oh my goodness this massive box arrived and in that box was lots of yarn obviously that she died and one of them was this and these are tony of cat on another pair this is 60 stitches on a 2.25 and this is the i thought this is quite christmassy um should we sparkle in it too and you know ellie names all her um yarn after song so i'm gonna put this song in your in your head nine notebook and it's this is there she goes there she goes again i'm not gonna sing sorry nicki i'm not gonna sing and it comes with the wii 20 gram mini it's just a 350 gram sock set with a 20 gram mini so those are my handbag kitchen um knit grip socks they'll get done quite quick so hopefully between the two pairs tony you'll get something to wear um before christmas so that's so that's my first active whip then um i told you last time that i had signed up for and been accepted for a new test knit because i have a test knit addiction what can i say and um so everything go flying um in my other christmas bag from rickrack room a couple of years and um i chose i showed you the yarn i was going to use a gorgeous like russet um yarn from jamison and smith a cone i love knit and sweaters and from cones because you've not no joining it's all in one but in i did my swatch you showed me showed you my swatch but in hindsight um because it's a jumper i wouldn't be wearing anything under it and i think it was just a bit itchy um and it would be better suited to a cardigan which i knit lots of too so back to the drawing board and i have quite a few cones in my possession and i've had this one in particular for a long time and it's this one here that's a good representation the colorway is um tierra beige nap 50 grams 500 grams marina wool cone and it's from woolly knit you hear lots of people talking about woolly net i've had that probably oh i don't know well over a year and um they test knit i've just flung out a stitch marker out of my bag do you have those all over your floor too and this is the she's already got a forager out but this is the forager light i just love it beautiful and isabelle creamer sorry designer she's beautiful too and this is knitting up what a treat it is as light as air and um i don't know which is the backing which is the front because i haven't done the um neck banjo and actually for my size all she requires is three inches of the body and one sleeve done by the deadline but i'll get this finished um but i think i'll go up and do once i get um the sleeves done you know i said before i always do my sleeves first um i go up and do the neckline i think and then so i know how long how it sits and how long then i need to knit the body a lot of the testers have said they're going to do that i mean it's just it feels like nothing it just feels like nothing but you can see the nice detail now the mock cables now there might be a wee divine design feature maybe one or two of those mob cables i'm not draw attention to well maybe i should well maybe i shouldn't i don't know there might be a one that's a wee bit longer than another one but you know what who cares um i think i've got it all maybe do that so that's all right on that side so maybe do make it at the front i don't know but it is like knitting with air honestly there's no scratch there's no itch um the only thing i am concerned about is don't laugh well this become one with my face now my face is red because i'm warm and my hair well i just become one let's just say you don't want to see my passport photograph um i think the naps in it should should be should make it but it's it's all right that's really the only concern i had and i'm just doing everything i what i love about isabel she must knit very similar to me or i must not very similar to her what am i talking about um because i nearly always get gage on the needles she recommends i don't think i've ever not so um i'm just using all the recommended needles all the recommended um things in the pattern some of them have finished but i'm a size seven so it's not taking me away but i have so many things in the needles and that's down the sleeve so it'll go right down there right down here so recommend the yarn although it is a hundred percent merino i think it will pillowy bit but sure we've all got the d pillow and things it's going to be just it's just gorgeous and it's raglan see the raglan so chuffed a bit for that and i couldn't actually put that down i just wanted to get to the to the splitting for the sleeves i couldn't put that down um and i've got my those wee tubes again on there um and i've tried it on and it fits lovely and that's the rip i mean those weed chips are just fantastic for trying things on so that's from the woolly knit um um cone um what else to say about that just using the look at malika needles as always um that's the bee swatch i did you see the lovely v-naps excuse my chewed fingers and i think it's just lovely i mean the drape on it is just gorgeous can i say any more good things about it so that is to be done by 18th of december i think um although as i say the larger sizes have have a better deadline but i just knit away on that and we'll get that done so that's another one and then oh gosh we're half an hour already then i thought in my wisdom that i would just i would just run up a wee a wee baby knit a which tweet baby nature they're tiny no baller at all then another christmas bag from rickrack room just gorgeous love mellie's bags oh a rogue stitch marker has come undone on the sorry poke myself that's it um and sure take me no time at all it's a beautiful pattern that's not the problem i think it was my cockiness was the problem my attitude there is the cardigan it is just i mean gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous and it's called the autumn by knits de nord i don't think there's anything in there there's nothing in that you can see and i know you're my third knit of it i think i think sometimes i don't know if you're like this but um i think sometimes when i'm knitting and i think something's easy i lose concentration and just i don't know just get a bit carried away or something but i'll show you anyway and there's still a mistake but if you've watched my podcast before you'll know i'm a great um believer in a decorative button to cover up mistakes and i have some lovely bb getting the buttons now it's a three to six to nine months so they don't need it just yet although i don't think it's massive but anyway so this is what i've done third time lucky it's beautiful yarn it's leftovers um from another project now if the white if the wily ones among you can see until i get it that's mistake so i'll have a nice weed dog or something on it but i've split for the sleeves and it's going to be lovely now there's no buttons buttons the whole way down but i just put one at the top i found when my children were young i didn't want to button everything up and so i've just made a buttonhole so it'll be you know that way uh no that way so it'll just be at the top and it'll it'll hang open and that's um you think that would be just so simple and it is but i just i i think um i just got lost on the yarn overs on the you know watching television or watching a podcast but i thought i'm i'm getting there now i'm on the i'm on the um homeward stretch now and the yarn i'm using is put it all back in the bag before i use it the yarn i'm using is this is what i used to remember from my mom's top serdar snuggly cashmere mourinho um silk but it is machine washable um four ply and 170 meters per 50 grams and the colorway is silvery moon the persian hoots for from likes very neutral colors for their their childhood girl and um they are she could be at school before i finish that but hopefully i'll get finished soon that just shows your pride comes before a fall i could do no problem at all and third time i'm on it so that's my autumn i'll put the pattern back in with it the autumn cardigan by um what did i say niche dinard now everything i mentioned hopefully everything i mentioned i'll put in the drop down um description box and if you aren't familiar with that it's just a wee down facing arrow um and if you click on that well you can't do it in your tv obviously but if you click on that on a computer ipad phone whatever you'll see all the description or just email me if you've anything that you want to know anything at all so that's my act of whips do you remember a few weeks ago i had a t-shirt on and it said it's my knitting i cast on if i want to across the top of it here there's no judgment in this podcast this is a judgment-free zone okay no guilt guilt-free zone but i don't know if you saw that kitty green bean or credit katie green has put out a cardigan called uh the fairy ring cardigan now the doorbell rang there and it was postman and i'm hoping that the pattern has arrived but i will put a picture up here from that she put on instagram and it's been cast on i think i have everything in my stash um i have um the colors that i need apart from the red i was going to i was going to use a four ply and and make to hold it double but um i watched a chat with kitty green and um looking at the wall again for inspiration um john urban textiles on friday i joined their uh event and the first thing she said was this cardigan is not for the faint-hearted because it's three stranded um colour work so holden um foreplay double is not gonna be fun so i just need to get um a red and then i think we're sorted for the colors we need and what else do you need to say yes i'm taking it all from a stash as far as i can see i've got i went bit mad on browns and um at the wooly knit and yeah i think i've got i think i've got everything i need for it so that'll be cut and cast on i'm sorry if this if this annoys you or this is too much for some people to cope with that i just cast on with gay abandon um i'm i'm sorry it's my podcast and i can do what i want no that's not right but um i think i have started a hashtag on instagram um it's my knitting i'll cast on if i want to as long as i could get it a really long hashtag and if anybody wants to use it or if anybody wants to take that hashtag as total guilt-free permission to cast on whatever you want to and have as many whips as you want to you feel free to use that hashtag it's my knitting i'll cast on if i want to so let me absolved anyway and then it gets worse i've applied for another test now look i'm a fast knitter i'll get these things done and it's for um the woolly badger and she has a oh the jimmy jab sweater love that she has to be um not baby a child's version of it i know she's putting out a um adult version but i haven't been i'm being told i've got on to that yet it might be better if it didn't but it's a short sleeve dk um top and um it's i love the look of it and again i have the yarn and stash so um you never know i might not even get one to it but that's that's the future have you turned off you want to turn off take away drink it'll be all right be all right there's nothing to get stressed about nearly cold coffee anyway um i just wanted to point out a few wee bits and pieces now if if you remember sorry i keep hurting back to the past but um i don't know how to put these eyes you know you watch podcasts and saying i'll just i'll i'll put put that podcast number in the eye i don't know how to do that so you just have to listen um one of the at this time of year so many people are making presents aren't you and often it's hats gloves socks and if you are thinking about making a hat for somebody i would just like to highlight this we have a game and it's the fin hat sorry it's been i've used a lot of knit loads of them and it's by um miss mandy lou on instagram her name is amanda long and her daughter owns which you'll see in a minute blue fern fibers and mandy amanda makes lovely um project bags which are sold on that site too but this wee hat she designed and it's the simplest loveliest we have i can't recommend it enough at child sizes there's alternative patterns there's longer a longer rib a shorter rib all the rest of it and it's a fantastic way of using up dk not quite scraps but you may be left over dk and the best thing of all is the pattern says very clearly all proceeds from the sale of this pattern will be donated to cancer research uk a charity very close to my heart now i'll show you again i was meant to get these sent off but i haven't that was one i did see there's just the this goes up i just think they're so effective and i'm not going to put it on do not sit hats and i'm warm enough and then i did one with a wee pom pom and this was just leftovers from a shawling knit you know you never know what to do with your leftovers and i did a twisted rib on this one and i did a normal rib on on that one and if you or what and then i put the wii stabilizing button in the in the side to hold the pom pom please so if you are in the market for a wee hat on ravelry or i'm sure if you can't manage rivalry if you message um amanda on um i'll put all the details don't worry on at missmandylou on instagram she would get that um pattern i think it's like four point three four pine and she just messaged me a while ago and said she was able to send off like 40 pounds to cancer research from some of her um patterns i just think that's brilliant you know every little helps absolutely every little helps and we could really boost that you know um that amount if we if we all bought this wee hat and it's i'm not you know i wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't a good nit as well as a good cause so that's the fin hat by miss mandy lou and then my coffee over and then what else does it want to say the burdock shawl which i don't have with me but i will put a picture um by fox and that i showed and i tested it is now on um ravelry oh moroccan chair i'm a fox and folk um tweety lovely warm um shawl i am sort of for the nobody's going winter want to spend any time with me i must be the most boring person on earth um but that's been published so go and have a wee look for that quite a few people ask me about that one actually and then these lovely socks that i showed last time the farmhouse christmas socks um lovely angela mcgowan of knitting on the farm um she is starting a cow and let me get this right the kf christmas socks is the hashtag for instagram go and check out her instagram it's all in detail she's gonna even do a um zoom meeting or a zoom thing um and the all the details are on her instagram post um and that she's to do a cowl for these socks and be a lovely way to knit these socks in december and gift them or keep them yourself or just having a bit of company a bit something to do sometimes christmas isn't the happiest time of year for people if they're on their own or um stuck at home or whatever and that might just be a wee way for you to make new friends and to get your needles out and especially if you've never knit a sock before a lot of people get in touch with me and says what talk would you recommend to start off with well this one here you'd be you'd be helped the whole way through and um so maybe this is this is the year you'll start and you'll start to be a sock knitter so that's angela mcgowan she's knitting on the farm on instagram and go and check out all the details and then um lovely nikki from the sheep and cheerful podcast and lovely janine from the faithful sheep podcast are starting a cal amal sorry i make a long carl isn't it along mal is make along um and um they're starting on the first of december initially um on nicki's podcast she said it was going to be a blanket along um but i think they've decided that not everybody can commit to a blanket and um it's going to be just a mall so whatever you want to do but the auspices of it or the thought behind it is going to be a prayer mal and every month they're going to give us um little um oh dear me little prompts oh they all bring little prompts of what we could be praying for and i don't know about you but i often if i'm knitting something for somebody i will be praying for them anyway so go and watch nikki's podcast um janine hasn't podcast for a wee while just life um but nikki's back to podcasting every week i think and hopefully she will have more information on that i do think she's doing it through ravelry um but um yeah go and check out the sheep and cheerful podcast and you'll get more information there and i do plan to join in um in my big wool bag over the you know again if you've watched this podcast my favorite color is yellow and over the months i've been throwing any yellow scraps i have into this bag and i have started um a habitation throw and there's no rhyme no reason to it i'm just knitting until that color's finished and then i'll move on to the next one and i have this bag is plenty heavy and i've big magic knot balls um and i've as many so what i've done is um i'm just weighed out and um when i get halfway i'm going to decrease so it could be a single bed it could be a king size it could be two king sizes i'm just going to keep um knitting and it's just all my scraps all my minis or anything that's yellow in it and um they're all going into the the habitation through by helen's shirt um and just i think i will bring back the scrappy sunday you know those crazy stuff lady does scrappy sunday and this will be what i knit on and it's just got a lovely um paisa cake oh it takes longer to show these than us um so that's just thrown in it hasn't been touched for the longest longest time and i'm afraid my crochet blanket has come it's so long since i touched it i can't even remember how to crochet so i need to maybe look at that but so you can start a blanket you can use a whip you can do whatever so go and check out um nicki's podcast the sheep and cheap and cheerful podcast now um is that everything y'all's still here you're still still okay um so that's the habitation through um oh yeah i was i was planning to do the showography um blanket by stephen west but um i thought maybe i would need prayer to finish that never mind praying for others so don't start anything else just finish the blanket and and i want to use up all those scraps anyway and there are many many scraps as i have knit many yellow things over the year and i've got a bit of reputation so now people have been sending me yellow things too so um yeah i was going to talk a bit about my outstanding whips but it's i'm already on 45 minutes i think i'll leave that and i might do that in um the crim the christmas the krembo limbo week a day wee roundup of the year um that week i think that would be much better and i don't have that many surprise surprise which meant i might have more by the end but um i was surprised because i have an awful habit of skinning up yarn putting it with a project but not starting it so i don't crank those up as whips they're not whips so not works in progress so don't count so we'll move on to incoming and um there's been a wee bit because i don't know if you um have noticed there's a hashtag on instagram and and it's hashtag get your yarn wishes granted and i have done it for maybe the last two years i think sent off loads of things last year got some lovely and that a lot of those um blanket scraps are from people sending me the yellow um mini skeins from last year's get your yarn which is granted and all you have to do is put a post on your own instagram say where i always like to know where you're from say where you're from maybe three wishes some people call them unicorn wishes if there's something really special you would like and then um put the hashtag and then that then transfers over to the actual um page where all the yarn wishes are and go and have a look you know if you are struggling with um wondering are there any kind people out there at all go and check out that and you'll your your faith in humanity be restored and i've granted four now this year and some of some patterns some actual physical um gifts all in the uk i think because you know that's it that's why i think it's good to put whether you're from uk us or australia or wherever you're from and then people in your own country can grant your wishes but it's a lovely thing to do especially at this time of the year and i was spoiled i put on i have delusions of grandeur if you haven't noticed excuse me and i put on that i would love a maria woolen wallenbook now i meant one that was maybe sitting on your shelf it was gathering dust you know don't be buying once they're expensive it was gathering dust and you just maybe thought you were going to use it and you just haven't i just have this romantic notion that you know um i i live in you know my college with her the maria wall and cardigan now if you know maria wallen that she does this sort of stuff i think actually knitting with cat hair and the podcast not in the cat hair isn't it in that one but anyway no she's not slice inclusive i think some of her her newer stuff she might be but she's definitely not size inclusive and so at cardigan hat mets about all i can all i can do from her um i wouldn't begin to size up in in that intricate um pattern but just even looking at the book i mean the color i mean if i had a coffee table that a dog and two children wouldn't wreck on me um i would have these all set night they're just dreamy i looked through them with a cup of coffee and ah i just wouldn't feel like that when i'm lit i mean that would be a long-term heirloom project wouldn't it but anyway i got this one i got i'm gonna put them to oh i got this beautiful one i mean the photographs in this alone are stunning absolutely stunning and um this one came i love this one this one came straight from maria wallin but the colors in that beautiful so the note that's the north so it's um gentle the north sea and then shetland she this lady models all her um all her knits i mean look at the back oh just gorgeous i haven't been to shetland when we lived in peterhead i could have got the boat to shetland and we never did it so um i've been to the isle of lewis several times but i haven't been to shetland but this this is the one i have my eye on although i would maybe like brighter colors that is um what's the name of that one that is yale now wouldn't that look lovely moroccan chair too so someday but i honestly thank you so much i just enjoyed looking through this and i'll look through them again definitely and then i found a d stash um for yarn and yarn shop in wales and they were selling this no this won't be done this year but i'm going to get my husband to meet the wee manger and i'm going to knit look at mary that's going to be i'm going to start those and just be knitting them through the year and um it was half price she's got some lovely things on her on the stash um yarn and yarns d stash i think i'll put the details down below or it's going to be long show notes this week and then another shop that's sadly shutting i think maybe has already shut is perlero i had never heard of it and and yet it was down these parts and i feel bad but anyway she um she decided to shut her brick and mortar shop and her online shop and she was doing 40 off everything so i bought this and maybe a few other things but they haven't come in um well maybe some of them have but they're for we're doing a secret santa in our neck grip so i'm not going to show anything off and um i have several pom poms and i only buy the ones that i really love but this is another one and it comes like like gift wrap do you feel like you're getting a real treat this is another one that i could knit everything out of it's just beautiful so i got 40 off it sure could not and there's several sweaters in this that are absolutely gorgeous and if i lived to a thousand i wouldn't be able to knit everything i want to knit now last year no this year this year uh lovely um uh oh hawthorne cottage crafts um did uh knit from the book cow i'm always slow off though and i i for till september i did really well at her lucky dip cow as well but it went to the went to the wayside when i lost my mojo i'm a soccer mojo and so she um um oh rambling am i rambling or what um she did a from the book cal but if you can see i have these i have the ones i showed you and then i have another thing of of knitting books and i am i was really quite addicted to buying patterns and rally and i have to wind it in so if all designers could stop designing stop making nice things and all yarn darts as well please could you stop just fold up your business and stop so that i can knit from what i've got and from the books of god okay thank you very much i have no willpower but anyway i got that pom-pom i'm talking about 40 off we're nearly there we're nearly there i bought two skeins of yarn for 40 off from as i was talking about lovely blue fern yarn i just wanted to up my um dk stash a wee bit now i won a prize from blue fern yarn and i won this one so i bought another one to to go with it it's called magnolia let me see if i can get there there's blue furniture and that's the daughter of miss mandy lou who did the fin hat and then of course and it is spectrum there's 40 off and she sent me bless her heart my first ever dk minis and i already have a project for they're not coming up nicely there that's it i already have a project for them and a dog hair and um they are called friendship platinum dk superwash merino nylon thank you so so much shannon uh just blew me away yesterday when those arrived and um go have a wee look there might be some goodies left in her sale department and then last but not least this are you excited are you i don't know how you maybe are super good and put everything on ravelry but i love hard copy of everything you know i print my patterns and you know i'm probably killing killing the trees and killing the ecosystem but um every year i get one of these and i put my um details a wee bit of yarn or a photograph or some details and i keep the hard copy i don't know why because my kids would have no interest and it would go straight in the fire but i love looking back through it and um yeah just to see so there's there's 40 pockets so you could put 80 itty things and so i've got 80 chances to knit this and i do a new one every year so uh and it's um i've improved on it every year so my first one was you know a notebook that was like that by the time it was finished last year i did a file where you put the poly pockets in and this is the shears iteration so that was a really exciting from amazon so um i don't know how you um document maybe you don't maybe don't bother you're on to the next one but i love to document everything that i do so and then i had a couple of christmas presents come in but i haven't opened them they're from lovely friends that um have sent me goodie boxes so they'll be shown at some point or when i when i met with them there was a few other bits and pieces but i'll show you them when i knit with them um i don't know if you've been watching ally of little drops of wonderful or dawn of dawn's days podcast and they both have done this thing and it's a hashtag what's on your window so now i have to admit when i first started i was like oh dear we're we're dragging the bottom of the barrel here but you know i have gonna use it and um you know i always love to to finish my repodcast with um something just from the bible some some we some we thought and i'm going to use what's on my windowsill so if you want to stay and um learn a bit more about that or if you've had enough and you've turned me off um i just want to say thanks for watching if you're an american or want to be american um i hope you have a lovely thanksgiving day i hope you have a lovely lovely time of just thinking of the good things that um in this old world that we still can be so thankful for so many things and i just pray that you'll have a really lovely day with friends and family or if you're on your own just um get your knit night and put a podcast on and thanks for joining me i just can't thank you enough but if you're staying um say bye to the ones who are leaving if you're staying i just want to share we five minute thing and that'll be us that'll be us done so what's on my windowsill well hopefully there'll be picture up here i have nothing on my windowsills really i'm not an ornament person i have a couple of vases that are empty intense i need some flowers husband and the only windows cells in my house that have anything on them are the kitchen and it's the soap you know dispenser and the alcohol dis stuff dispenser and a couple of empty vases i think there's a picture of my daddy and the two kids and a couple of succulents um i don't think you'd want to see that and every so often the hand or forgot to mention at the start we have 13 hands 13 chickens um and they jump up in the wind to sell outside sometimes too i have some stuff in my bathroom when to sell toothpaste toothbrushes you don't want to see that either so the only actual windowsill i have anything on is my little craft room spare room and it's mostly candles i love my candles but i still seem to buy all the candles that once i light them they don't smell anymore but anyway i love i love the candles on and i have another wee thing on my windowsill and this is it and i hope this is showing the right way around this is made by for me by a lovely man up in peterhead just outside peter head and he gave me and my husband one and um nigel has it in his office and i keep it up in the windowsill in my craft room and the position i used to um podcast in you could see it actually over my shoulder and um i don't know if anybody ever noticed it but you know maybe you're thinking what on earth is that maybe you can't see that it says jesus and if you look at the spaces and not the lines it should become oh sorry it should become clear sorry knocked something off um maybe like when you first looked at the sweet plaque you're struggling to see jesus in life too maybe you're going through something right now and you're really starting to wonder does he even know does he even know i'm struggling does he care well i have good news deuteronomy 31 78 says be strong and courageous the lord himself goes before you and will not and will be with you he will never leave you nor forsake you do not be afraid do not be discouraged you know i have to be honest and say that this sweet plaque has been on my windowsill for so long you see it now that i hardly notice it sometimes you know if it's i hardly notice it's there sometimes and if you're ever in doubt that he is is with you and he is there read psalm 139 now it's a long psalm i'm not going to read i'm not going to read it all but it will lift your heart and spirit and just verses 8 to 10 say if i go up to the heavens you're there if i go down to the grave you're there if i ride the wings of the morning if i dwell by the farthest oceans even there your hand will guide me and your strength will support me it's not amazing and the rest of the psalm is just as amazing i challenge you to read that we sam at some point today or through the weekend maybe just like me i set this wee plaque back up in the windowsill and i'll just get on with my day maybe that's almost how you treat christ how you treat how you treat um jesus you maybe just bring him down for emergencies or when you need comfort you know break glass in case of emergencies maybe when things are going well when life's good you don't even bother you just call out to him when you're in trouble but as i say when life's good you forget about him you know like any good relationship we have to keep communicating do you remember those days when you just needed to hear your other half's voice regarding no no it's like oh stop talking regardless of what is happening in our lives we are so blessed that he wants to hear about them and he wants to hear from us and we have an open and direct line we can come as we are wherever we are you know maybe you see the word jesus on your on the plaque but you really have to focus you really have to you know screw your eyes up and really focus to see it and narrow your the gays to see the name appear i know that one might be this one might be a stretch um but that is exactly what we need to do in life too we need to focus on jesus and trust in his plan for our lives in the good times and the bad many of you will know jeremiah 29 11 for i know the plans i have for you declares the lord plans to prosper you and not to harm you plans to give you a hope and a future if that doesn't mean you'll be a millionaire living living the life of riley it doesn't mean life will be plain sailing but he will be beside us through it all just like maybe for the word just like maybe for the some of the word jesus it wasn't um instantly recognizable i'm gonna put this up again there are many things in life that we just won't and can't see the reasoning behind suffering a pandemic oh multitude of world issues but first corinthians 13 12 says and it's this is in the new living translation i think it's wonderful now we see things imperfectly like puzzling reflections in a mirror but then we will see everything with perfect clarity all that i know now is partial and incomplete but then i will know everything completely just as god knows are you ready to see jesus or will you just take him back put him back out of sight and out of mind and get on with life after you've watched this podcast i challenge you today to really really look to jesus look to him in every aspect of your life and don't forget you're never alone and he knows exactly but you know we don't need to know some of the reasoning we don't need to to know right here right now why things are happening because he has it he has it in his hands and if we love and trust him someday when this whole life's over we will maybe have some understanding but you know i often think i don't care i'll be a baskin in his glory i'd be singing i'd be seeing um family and friends that have gone before and i won't care what the reasoning was for all these things but i will know that i'm safely at the feet of jesus and as i show you just the wee plaque once more i just pray for you today that you would know him that you would know the love he has for you and the care he has for you and what he did for you on the cross and if you want to know more if you want to understand more if you want to um just get to grips with these things please get in touch ruthless tonight at gmail.com and i'd be happy if i can look i'm not an expert i'm just human i'm not perfect but i just want to share the good news i can't keep that to myself the good news that i have um that i need to let you know about right definitely around blue one i'm not getting any better at these things i hope you've found some some fun today i hope you've had time to put a few rows on your knitting or your crochet or whatever um i hope that you've taken me in small bites and um i will try and write show notes with everything that i rambled on about but until we meet again um i pray that you'll have a really safe really good nitty few weeks i'm not sure when i'll get back again i'll try my best to keep it to two weeks um to get in in december enjoy all the vlogmases that everybody's putting on but you don't need to see me making coffee and making doing the dishes and um thanks again for joining me i don't take it for granted i'm so so blessed to have you here and yeah just keep on knitting all right god bless bye
