[Music] previously on the traveling together journal we made our way south through Costa Rica from Marbella to Dominica along the way we saw crocodiles got some fun waves at playa hermosa searched for remote surf with our new friends CAI act and mangroves rafted down the savais grey river and got to see a sloth for the first time complete we arrived in Dominica and found a group of fellow travelers all of whom we had met previously and we're excited to cross paths with again so we set up camp on the beach and proceeded to enjoy with Dominica had to offer [Music] [Music] all right our time here in submit a cull is done I think we're going to go try to find a water phone that maybe we can swim in and we have no idea where we're gonna camp tonight we haven't really figured it out that much [Music] [Music] [Music] so that was really fun we went to the main big waterfall watch some people be really crazy sliding headfirst down the waterfall jumping diving headfirst and there was just a lot of people and so we decided to go to the other little swimming hole and we had our own little swimming hole and our own little three-foot shop's mine actually might have been negative foot jumps it was rather low water level pouring rain and we're wet from the waterfall so we're just gonna embrace it and we're gonna get back on the road just in our swimming suits and go going where is the question always we have just arrived in puerto jimenez and we decided to get a room tonight because we're gonna probably be wild camping for anywhere from three days to maybe a week and we'll need to make sure we have water and supplies and then also we wanted enough time to like check out all the different areas and the different surf spots before like finding the place we wanted to set up camp and it's already 3 o'clock so we didn't really quite have enough time cuz it's gonna be all four-wheel drive only roads and from everything i've been reading from other overlanders it sounds pretty rough so yeah we're at this very fancy bar cabinas situation it's called iguana iguana bar it's on the outside of the town well we just had our last legitimate shower and bathroom in a toilet we're going wild camping yeah first off I need to get some coffee we were told that they've got good coffee at this 10:30 yeah oil and kept it which weekend it's kind of like a really flaky like croissant thing almost but not quite as buttery and it's got like sometimes using chicken on the inside so I gave Amy my keys so that she could get her coffee cup out of the car and now they're right in there but luckily she failed to lock the doors when you unlock my side it unlocks that side so it's not a huge thing to always remember anyway we're getting back on the real here we go [Music] we arrived to the stunning ko full of clear blue water shimmering in the afternoon Sun backed by the lush dark jungle rolling up into the hills and the whole scene amplified by the promising lines of white water bending in from around the point yeah we were going to stay a while and we found a great camp spot in the shade at the end of a dirt lot with a view of the surf and the abundant wildlife all around us [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you so we have two kinds of monkeys above our truck right now how cool this is a cup of tea or a white faced monkey and we think the peas are the spider monkeys we've officially seen all four kinds of monkeys in Costa Rica we've seen all four kids a monkey in the last two days hi in our episodes have been getting a lot of questions because we've been dealing with a lot of solar issues and people have been asking us like why didn't we put the panels on top of the roof of our car and this is a perfect example so just wanted to show you and this is pretty much like our situation 80% of the time so we're in this amazing shade that zero Sun we get to our panels and our panels are way out there and we have this nice extension cord that's something like 75 feet long and it's supplying us with some power well we're all packed up it's been awesome to be here on the Oso Peninsula [Music] [Music] drinking beer did you say with your path yeah she just asked us to wait till the song is over there's just abandoned horses nobody's taking ownership of the horse little further horsy oh how funny there's good dancing going on them yeah yeah that was funny that she was like just wait till the fun's over and yeah they were really nice about helping us bad and I'm actually ahead into part of hermas and off of this peninsula and a little bit south and we'll be heading out towards ponies and hopefully hitting up a waterfall along the way supposed to be about three hours of driving so it's just luck we just pulled off the highway right here all there is is this restaurant across the street and that was the only clue that there is supposed to be a deep swimming pool and waterfall for us to go play in so yeah let's go check it out [Music] Oh looks like we stumbled upon a park right on the river there's a police station over there so if we did want to camp just ask alright so we made it to Pavone aids you just said you did not to do the free beach camping and there is a lot of people and it doesn't look like that we'd be able to find like a nice private area to get our holes to go to the bathroom and we also heard some things that there might be some theft issues we shopped around and we found this place for a very good rate it's just got a fan but we have our own bathroom and it doesn't seem too hot in there it's not the prettiest looking place in town by no means but it's cheap we decided to just do a weekly rate cuz it's always a little cheaper if we do an entire week and just as we were like deciding yes we're definitely gonna do this started dumping it is so wet from the door to here I just got completely drenched look at all this rain we've had some different noises and stuff coming from the truck and when we pulled up into Pavone ace looking for a place to stay I noticed it looked like we had some oil dripping from underneath the rear differential so I'm gonna climb under the truck have a look around and just kind of generally have a look around through the suspension and the lower drivetrain so what are you doing that I'm gonna check the differential fluid level I think that our front oil seal may have gone bad I'm just checking to see how low the level is so our super luxurious place does have free laundry it is not the fanciest laundry machine you've ever seen but I'm not hand agitating it I'm pretty sure it's doing a much better job than I would do by hand this is how you turn on the water and then you just like turn the dial for how long you want it to spin for this is how strong it is and this is keep the water in there drain water so laundry in here it actually spins it really really well they're like a salad spinner we've been in Pomona's for a couple days now and we came here for the surf but we haven't actually gotten in the water yet Pavone ace has a world-class left-hand point break but it only breaks when there's a pretty good sized swell from the right direction so we showed up a couple days before this well and we've just been kind of hanging out and waiting for this swell to show up it's supposed to build today so we've been walking from the place we're staying up on the hill down to the beach like every few hours checking to see if the conditions have gotten better and hoping to get a surf in by this evening it looks like the first signs of a swell showed up so I'm going to be running back up to the place to grab my board and hopefully get a few waves in [Music] [Music] [Music] pavana Steffen Utley lived up to its reputation as an incredibly long fun wave and with a beautiful warm location like this and a good swell in the forecast it's no surprise that it draws a crowd from all over Costa Rica and the world the busy lineup of surfers competing for waves could get frustrating at times but effort and patience was rewarded with racy sections down the line eventually your legs would start burning from pumping and turning so much on one wave and you'd have to pull into the shade to cool off our friends Maddy and Ingrid caught up to us in time for the next swell and it was a blast the waves were even bigger but the wind was coming in and bumping it up by mid-morning fortunately Ingrid was up early shooting from the beach and shared a few nice shot she got at me when we were out surfing we had a great time hanging out around camp and the girls even had a traveller spa day consisting of a soak in the Riverside mineral baths complete with a stone scrub exfoliation and of course natural stone pedicures our friends Manning and Ygritte are here for two more weeks we could just be surfing and hanging out and be super fun it's very very very tempting so we are definitely sad and bummed to be leaving tomorrow but we got to do it our Costa Rican visas are up in less than two weeks and we need to leave a couple weeks for our northern departure from Panama so how it works is that we got a three-month visa our car got a three months tip temporary import permit and Costa Rica is a little unique in that you can put the tip on hold so we want to leave at least two weeks for our return trip there's some things that we didn't do here in Costa Rica that we would like to still do but they're on the other side of the country or sort of in the center of the country and it will be a lot easier to kind of do those things if we come up the Caribbean side so that right now that's our plan so anyways really mean tomorrow and we're sad we are just about to leave paavo neighs and Casa Chino it has been 383 days we are headed to the Panama border and we have been experiencing some issues with our truck so we are headed straight to the city of Da Vida and hopefully we make it there next time on the traveling together journal we cross the 8th international border of our trip when we leave Costa Rica and enter Panama you
