those of you in the comments saying where's this one where's that one you're annoying that's what that one says sleep is by far the most broken thing in DND it heals all wounds Regens all magic and basically cures all status conditions so it's no wonder that players are trying to take long rests in the middle of Dungeons and the problem is with how the rules are written even if you Ambush your players in the middle of the night and cause them to battle and take heavier wounds they can keep resting as if nothing happened afterwards so in our games we do something different called The Sanctuary system it allows us to balance better short and long rest classes together what is a century is left up to the DM but it has four criterias It's relatively safe it's got beds it's got food and it's got warmth outside of sanctuaries longer rest don't work you still need to sleep to be able to prevent exhaustion but beyond that they're just short rests but you can also take your normal one-hour short rests so this means that when you're out and about in the world you really careful with your resources because you don't regain them on the long rest and this is where Fighters and monks and other short dress classes can shine three ways to have fun after a total party Wipeout the players start a new campaign in the same world and later find out that their old characters have been resurrected as the undead champions of a powerful Lich this a sets up really personal battles with each of the undailed characters and B makes the players really hate that Lich after a tpk the player is awake in the nine hells and must fight their way through each hell Gathering the nine fragments of an ancient key which can unlock a gateway back to the material plane the player's heroic Final Stand catches the attention of a powerful God who gives them a second chance on one condition if resurrected the players must go on a crusade against a rival God destroying temples slaying clerics and erasing that religion from the material plane give your players a 10 to clue this magical instrument appears to be a normal loot albeit one decorated with Oceanic designs however when you play a certain sea shanty on the loot long grasping tentacles swarm out of the sound hole and grapple nearby enemies the tentacles remain for as long as the song is played and seem to be aware of the will of the player communicated through the music when The Shanty ends the tentacles withdraw back into the sound hole and the loot appears empty some theorize that the Sound Hall becomes a portal to our pocket Dimension containing the tentacled monster but the true nature of the tentaclook remains a mystery this item appeared in my recent patreon supplement Tom of pirates but you can get all the
