someday i should just do a video of an antique mall from a dog's eye view because everything smells so interesting and who knows where it came from hi i'm george the antique nomad come with me as i wander the country in search of valuable vintage amazing antiques and cool collectibles we'll buy sell and trade at antique mall shops and shows estate sales flea markets thrift stores anywhere people go to find really interesting things that just aren't made anymore so come on let's go it just says malachite and chrome chair but i love that color that looks like it would actually be really fun in front of a vanity [Music] with the arms i wonder who did these adrian pierce all again that's funny i didn't recognize these i'm used to them having the padded arms but i like the shape of these and then i've shown these before in the midwest you don't see them very often and i've rarely seen them in seattle but there is a horn chair with the cowhide covering in this era where people are collecting taxidermy that's the perfect thing [Music] now this appears to be architectural pottery out of los angeles they did these hourglass shaped pieces around 1970. one of their main designers was a fellow named roll cornell and he actually designed for treasure craft but that was because he was friends of the people who owned the company he really was known as a major designer of things like gigantic murals like there's a 30-foot mural with his repeating arch design that was a specialty of his and that is in the headquarters of american cyanomide in los angeles so we're going to go a little more methodically through the tom gore's collection part of the store and show some of the really neat things this is czech glass with all the little pieces wired together all those little pieces just like they did the little table lamps well they did chandeliers as well and this one has grapes and flowers it is just beautiful and it's priced at 3 200. but try finding another one here is a beautiful piece of majalika whenever i have someone tell me oh i don't really like majolica i say well wait till you see something really exquisite and then tell me this one's really exquisite that may be minton or sevdid majalika there isn't a tag to show and i'm afraid to pick it up to look at the bottom so we're just going to have to imagine and then this pretty madonna and child painted on board from about 1900 it is in a wonderful cabinet this is a well-known line for hager and we should be able to see royal hager marked on the bottom there 32 not a bad price at all not everything in a place like this is super expensive it can be daunting and scary to people until they actually look around and realize that there are things that trade at all levels of the market and in a place like this yes you're going to see some of the best and most expensive items but you're going to see a wide variety if it fits into the genre it's going to be here then at the same time we have the first generation wire chair by warren plattner here which was done for nolan associates first generation because of the construction they have made these sense then so you have to look at construction details to know the difference this one being first generation is priced at 2 800. so it really does run the gamut here [Music] oh that is really neat yeah stephanie just pointed out this really great lamp this is probably 1920s with the fringe shade and look at all the carving no actually i think it might be older this is from right when electricity starts to be available because look at the level of detail on this thing all the way down to the feet just so much incredible carving with the griffins and signets [Music] oh those are beautiful too with the teardrop shapes and the flowers wow those are gorgeous what does it say on the tag let's see french bronze and crystal gerandol so they're candle holders and they would have been part originally of a gigantic mantle set so there would have been three other pieces probably a clock and a pair of vases or sculptures amazing this is really incredible too this japanese screen's from about 1900 and it's all twig really being organic and so someone was able to figure out how to put all these twigs together and then there's shell and hard stone and probably a little bit of bone to make the faces carved and painting beautiful piece here we have brass and glass from the 1980s along with lacquerware seats and this is charles hollis jones one of the early progenitors of this style that was so popular throughout the 1980s and we are starting to see people get back into this 1980s design if it's good is popular now and 1980s kitsch is going to follow soon so for those of you who like the 80s you'll be very happy and for those of you who live through the 80s get ready to relive it this is a very pretty vase here this one is blue with persimmons and it looks to me like it is probably from asia the persimmons are considered i believe a symbol of health in japan and china health and good fortune there's so much here it will take many trips back here i'm sure to describe it all but i really want to just give you some of the flavor there are a lot of designer pieces here this is ford morgenson and these are rosewood again the little set of nesting tables here this stalwart gentleman makes a nice lamp and then i want to show something over here because this piece is pottery craft and this one in the middle the owl was done by masa fuji who was pottery craft's main designer robert maxwell initiated the line then left the company they didn't make it for a few years and then when they did start making it again masa fuji from japan came over to be the primary designer of the stoneware and i just love the droopy eyed owl they did some really great anthropomorphic items and this is one of them and nothing says modernism like russell wright dinnerware we have the unusual white piece which is the open loop handled sauce pod you don't see that very often and these are a couple of different lines iroquois as well as american modern and they are sitting on a paul hundavad shelf unit with a four drawer chest at the bottom another danish modernist there is something to be said about names in modernist furniture this set here is parcel bender madsen for bobin comp which was a big company in the time designer from the netherlands in the 1960s and this is priced at 3 800. there are lots of good-looking things that have the look that are more affordable for those of you who are on a budget for mid-century but if you want to get serious about designer names well the mid-century is when designer names became the thing now here this is dorothy thorpe i showed an oval piece in a recent thrifting video with thrifting inventors in centralia washington and this dealer has 68 on this one but you'll notice how much better the condition of this one is than the one that was at the thrift store fiberglass spaghetti lamps are very popular everywhere you go now and it used to be that you would see these priced under a hundred dollars and nowadays this one's priced at 185 and that's a pretty typical price for them anywhere you go these crackle glasses are blanco blanco did a very deep sharp pinch unlike the other companies who made pinch glass and this is tangerine crackle from the 1950s this looks like something i see in palm beach and in florida this stacked lucite lamp which i find very attractive personally and this is priced at i'm reading that right 1200 and then in the 80s if you worked in a dentist office or you just had a sense of humor you might have seen these p stark tooth stools another 80s thing that's popular now this one's priced at 3.75 then when we come in here you're going to see something a little different this is more like french apartment style living there's a lot of new condos in seattle and they need something that is attractive on a small scale and for some people who like a more formal or traditional presentation this is a good direction to go but then you also have one of these neat murano via lamps where it's all one piece of blown opalescent glass so while i'm thinking of it please comment in the space below here and also hit the thumbs up button to like this video if you haven't subscribed click the subscribe button below also hit the bell below to be notified of new videos coming every monday and wednesday at 8 pm eastern and thank you so much for following along let's go back to this video and we're getting ready for christmas so there is the aluminum tree and then look at this kinetic sculpture this is great it's moving there's practically no breeze in here and it's moving with just the very tiniest breeze from a ceiling fan that's like 15 feet above this is actually a john anderson kinetic sculpture from the 1970s on top of the kidney shape table i love kidney shape tables when i was six years old my family got a kidney-shaped table because that was used furniture back then ours was for micah and had the little kidney-shaped squiggles on top of it too and oh i wish i had that thing now i'm sure it's worth a small fortune and then look at that fun sofa and the purple chairs to go with i'm a guy who likes color i have to admit and so i look at these things and i like colorful signs and the art a lot of people in seattle are more into neutral tones i've noticed but these are vladimir kagan and vladimir kagan is the name people look for again and then all this glassware is blanco blanco did these rings in the 1950s i believe winslow anderson their first designer came up with these and they came in all sorts of different fun colors and they're easy to hold onto when you're having cocktails which is helpful now i'm going to take some pictures in the mall spaces here because in addition to the tom gorse collection that we were looking at this mall has a bunch of dealers like look at this great metal sculpture and the pendant lamp stephanie sells pendant lamps and stephanie sells vintage clothes in snohomish so i figured that this would catch her eye and look at this bathing costume right out of the 1920s or 30s you would have seen people cavorting in st petersburg florida and something like this back in the florida land boom days it's priced at 195 because you really don't see those anymore and that is died fur not real leopard fortunately these lotus lamps are coming back into style we see this in florida a lot and now people are starting to pick up on it everywhere i showed this danish table in a recent video and one of the dealers here purchased it and it's come here to be sold here's a neat architectural ornament from a rooftop that's just a really neat sculptural piece made of stamped tin that should date to about 1890 and is probably european we're getting into the mall section of epic antique now i have a space here as well artillery shell there and an old medicine ball oh look at my big eyes and we're gonna travel through here i wanted to show these pickled bamboo pieces these are priced in the 150 to 350 dollar range you have a nice open shelf i like the wall mirror and then the magazine rack those are all from about 1900 to 1910. here's one that actually has inlays with paint on them in a japanese style here's a neat piece of mercury glass in cobalt this is 1920s the dealer in this space collects crylic or crayolic depending how you pronounce it out of czechoslovakia and this one does not have a check etched mark on it but my guess is that maybe the maker and it's only 49 which is a really good price back in the 1980s and 90s when cobalt was all the rage those were selling for a hundred dollars more than that cute acme beer sign this looks like something that would have been done in the 1940s or 50s when western was really the rage it's priced at 95. that seems like a pretty good price for that we see a lot of spaces in louisville kentucky and other parts of the mid-south that are done in this very stark black and white where they take traditional but they use these very high contrast tones it's very much in sync with things i've seen in architectural digest over the last 10 years and we have a space here in seattle that's doing this now as well and i have to say it's a very definite look but it's a way to really make traditional look fresh and interesting in a way that gets away from just a lot of brown and a lot of people are really liking this now this centerpiece with cherubs on it is rather impressive this one is a vintage bronze chardonnay with the pooties which are the little cherubic figures that are supporting the main part my friend virginia has this space and there is a hager gazelle in a color we don't see very often teal definitely a late 80s color and definitely popular and she actually does rather well with rugs there is still a market for rugs if you price them right that one's priced at 8.95 that used to be a 2500 rug but that is not the market we're in now but there is still interest in these so again everything can still sell you just have to pay attention to pricing and where the trends are and work accordingly because somebody liked all these things when they were new and somebody likes them now here's another northwest item this is another dealer and this is a macaw cedar basket with the canoeing on the side this one's only 48 dollars that's actually a good price the weave's a little loose so this would have been done probably in the 1970s or 80s for tourists but it's still very well priced for that type of item i usually get about 75 or something that size they also have this very neat tortilla lamp with the deco base and the lucite tube and this one's 1920s this is not a 1980s reproduction and it is priced at one thing i think that's really fun in this space is old musical instruments put on bases and made into art pieces we have a baritone and a coronet here's more pottery craft and you will see pottery craft in modernist smalls because after i wrote the book people realized that yes robert maxwell was involved he did the shape of the ginger jar but actually the drip glaze was created by their own staff because they were doing the overlap glazes which he initiated as you see on these canisters here and they said well what if we just let it run free form like we did in the 60s with the lava glazes on the hawaiian looking items and it was a good look and it worked it sold well i remember these from when i was a kid supers little soup bowls that stacked and had little faces these are just slightly worn but they're really cute you don't see them very often and she's even got jewelry only 24 dollars for that set here's a good example of the return of 1980s brass this lamp with the table built in is definitely a look and it's great because you get lighting and a table it's priced at 250 it's still reasonably priced not everyone has caught on to this yet so you get double duty in a small space which again with a lot of new condos being built in seattle is really useful these are pieces that i brought in that i believe were made in connecticut by gideon but i got these in st petersburg florida and yet you will find rust and dirt and this small just like the other places that are finding the popularity of these pieces to be too irresistible look at this great old prestone antifreeze stand this would be 1930s the stacking lawyers bookcases these have been very popular i sold one here in myspace and they actually have gone very well here think these are really cute these are carlton wear carlton wear more than probably any of the other english ceramic companies extended its life by really latching onto modernism these are vivian brennan designs look how great the owl is these are 1970s and 80s era but they do have the old school script carlton wear signature on them carlton ware went out of production i believe in the late 1990s so they are no more but they made neat stuff and you know there's not so much time left until christmas in this needle baby food cubby hole container here we see a really fun collection of vintage christmas items much more fun than prunes look at all the cool old ornaments on here [Music] here in the back room we see some more really neat pieces as well i really like these low slung burlwood chairs there's a set of four here these were made in montana in the 1960s behind and i showed a very similar piece at vintage modern saint pete the only other place i've seen this is here this is raymond loewy for roy hill this was the df-2000 series it was supposed to show what furniture would look like in the year 2000 and then these are really great these are william hixson this was a seattle art professor at the university of washington who was also a well-known artist in his own right and he did a lot of three-dimensional art inspired in part by what they were doing with fiberglass for hydroplanes because the hydroplane races are big here and what they were doing with airlines because of boeing being here so that influence carried into the art in the area at that time we actually were able to help the family with their estate when the hixons passed his wife was quite a crafts woman of her own and here are a couple of other hicks and pieces they just have a really distinctive design to them and the three-dimensionality is really neat these blue upholstered chairs are null florence knoll of course was a big designer for them but they've had a lot of good designers go through the null company well i can just go on and on here at epic antique there is so much to show i haven't even shown you any of the showcase items and there's more rooms it's really an amazing place so if you're in seattle it's right by the place where the spokane street viaduct meets i-5 at 3701 seventh avenue south and i of course have to put a plug in for that because i'm a dealer here too and it's just a really tremendous place so thank you so much for watching and i'm george the antique nomad on periscope instagram twitter and facebook
