[Music] [Applause] the gift ministers given to the church and the King James and that passage out of Ephesians reads for the perfecting of the Saints the Saints are not being perfected like the King James says but rather equipped to being equipped and there's only one way that we can kind of understand that equipping that comes through God's Word 2nd corinthians 9:8 says god is able to make all grace abound toward you always having all sufficiency in all things may abound to every good work essentially what that means is that those who are the called of God he gives them a provision house to go in and take what is needed out of the provision house of His Word to be able to make the journey 2nd Peter 1:3 according as his divine power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that called us to glory and virtue again stressing and emphasizing that essentially out of the first book of Scott whom the Lord calls he enables but not just an enabling or an enablement but provision let me give you an example of this a lot of times I think we we tend to I think in Christendom at least for those people who are listening to the word who are preaching the word that tends to be an idea that substitution of the provision is ok you know if you need a shirt on your back you're probably not gonna reach for socks right unless you're half-asleep the socks might just fit on your hands maybe so is the same thing in God's book Ephesians 6:11 we're told put on the whole armor of God and again verse 13 take unto you the whole armour of God and the whole armour in that passage is defined as six things that the Apostle Paul says the believer must either take hold of receive or put on and if understood they cover the individual from the crown of their head to the soles of their feet now imagine not taking the shoes the preparation of the gospel not taking the shoes and going out onto the battlefield which we call everyday Christian life and not having the proper footwear if you wish it's going to make the journey very unpleasant and probably you'll get injured along the way the same way is not receiving the helmet of salvation if the head is injured the rest of the body probably won't be able to function so it's necessary for us when we look at the provision that God provides in his word that we don't begin to make substitutions or use our own opinion of what we think will get us through there's a reason why in what I just described of that passage out of Ephesians why one of the things is the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God and there is no place in the Bible where we don't have examples of this including in the life of Christ himself now I'm gonna give you an idea of where I'm going what I'm doing I'm still talking about the equipping that comes from the Spirit of God today I'm not done there in fact I realized that after I was done I wasn't done last week and I couldn't possibly be done in a message or two I'm not sure where this is going but I know that I didn't say enough and I didn't there's no way to cover it in the time allotted so you just have to bear with me I'm gonna take several attempts at this until it becomes clear just as I described the whole armor of God requiring us to take it's interesting six items that are provided six is the number of a man six items provided that each go in their respective place and they are for a purpose we talked about the breastplate or the belt of truth these things that rip that require us thinking about how they are applied in our lives and not making a substitution thinking well I've received the helmet of salvation so I really don't need to do too much else go out there and fight the devil if you will that way you're gonna see you're gonna have an interesting time probably a terrible time but I was referring to that which is the the Word of God the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God and all you have to do is look at the life of Christ in Luke's Gospel we have the reference of Jesus being baptized and it says that the Spirit descended like a dove and essentially abode there and Luke uses some interesting verbage if you want to turn there for a second that's not my text for the day but we can at least start by going somewhere so I'm actually making you open your Bibles I don't want to be like that other church never opens the Bible you know people show up with the Bible they hold up the Bible and then they probably sit on the Bible but interesting in Luke's Gospel I want you to see very carefully in the fourth chapter it says and Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost the Holy Spirit returned from Jordan and was led by the spirit into the wilderness remember last week I was talking about being led by the spirit and this is vitally important because as I think we navigate and we we have challenges of life it's impossible if you are going to be a Christian it's impossible to make the journey without looking at some of these including the template of our faith but here we have Jesus and this is the interesting thing being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan and was led by the spirit into the wilderness being forty days tempted of the devil and what's interesting is in the verses that follow we have Jesus and the devil we have the record in Matthew and Mark I'm looking at Luke's record what's interesting is that each one of these attacks or temptations is met by it is written it is written it is written and it is written is the word of God the sword of the Spirit the Word of God so if you think about it it's vitally important for us to look at the template to understand I've said this many times like those people who came to be baptized and I fully take responsibility the first and second time for not warning the individuals I I would have thought it would have been clear that now you become almost a marked person the minute you make that open testimony you become a marked person the devil has now seen you basically make a public testimony and you become a target and there's only one way that you're going to overcome and that is exactly the same way that Christ overcame here the Word of God and we are told by Paul this is the only way to defeat these powers that come against the believer and then at the close of what happens obviously this some battle between the devil and Jesus is won by the Word of God the sword of the Spirit the Word of God and in verse 14 it says and Jesus returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee so it's interesting being full of the Holy Ghost was led by the spirit into the wilderness and after this it says returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee so when we talked about the importance of understanding the equipment given to us it means that every step of the journey has a piece of equipment that it's not enough to say ok I see what it is one has to know how to use the equipment and it's like somebody asked me a question dr. Scott used to have a concealed weapons permit and you know that obviously brings forth guns and somebody said do you know how to use the gun and I said of course I do I mean obviously some of you the person that asked wasn't round one we used to shoot skeet up at the ranch obviously of course I do but it would be terrible to have a weapon for your protection or defense and it's one thing to say well I understand where the hand goes and what to do but what if you don't know how to unlock the things really not going to do too much good if you're pointing it in your self-defense and you don't know how to shoot or what to do with it it's locked that's gonna really do good for you and the same is applicable with the Word of God it's not enough to say oh yes I know this thing but how do I pick up and use the tools and this is why I said it seems rather simplistic but it's complicated because just when we think we've wrapped our minds around something if we're really growing and progressing in God we find out that we don't know as much as we think we know this can be uncomfortable for some people because there are people who in this church and other churches they know everything and you can't tell them anything because they know everything they've learned it all they know it all you can't help those people but for the ones who understand just when you think you have come to know something you can always there's something deeper there's something more that will be brought forth and the relevance today is God has given the tools to you and to me and it's impossible today to cover all those tools because we wouldn't be here for an hour but here for a long time but I'm gonna give you the instrument the concept the instrument kind of the footprint of things to say this is how we might know that God has given us these tools same book in Luke if you want to turn there Luke 24 the close of the book it's a pages turning so they are all going the right way and this is about the close of the book here Luke 24 and 49 behold I send the promise of my father upon you but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you be endued with power with Dunamis from on high now if they had not tarried and waited for that empowerment or had they not understood what they were waiting for the day of Pentecost I've told you many times the promise of the Spirit being sent upon the people was not some freaky display of craziness it was equipment for service and I've said this many times before and there have been many people in the Pentecostal tradition who dislike when I say this because some of them think that the gift of the Holy Spirit he is like a life switch you can flip it on and off it's the display like a peacock or Benny rooster look here I am this isn't the marks of my salvation see me and see that I am well I got to tell you something I see that you are but that's all that I see and I won't finish the sentence but first 49 is very important out of the mouth of our Lord he says I send the promise of my father upon you that promise which was given way back there see in the Old Testament God just clothed the people he put his spirit upon them he he spoke through the prophets he guided he directed but this would take a new concept a new way for the message of the gospel to go out into the whole world it wasn't enough had this power from on high this Dunamis from on high not been received they would have gone out maybe they would have tried to spread the message but it wouldn't have happened it wouldn't have it wouldn't have taken hold and of course if you keep reading you turn to the book of Acts so skip over John the book of Acts and the opening of acts 1:8 but ye shall receive power Dunamis after that the Holy Ghost the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem in all Judea and Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth which is the fulfillment of what we've labeled the Great Commission uttered in Matthew's Gospel but it would have been impossible it would have never have happened the way it did had they not been given the Dunamis the dynamite of God from the Holy Spirit so I've said power for service comes that way equipment for service comes that way and still today comes that way now there many people have some very strange ideas about what type of equipment they need for ministry but if we're gonna really go through the concepts of what this means remember last week I was talkin out of John 1:12 and I said as many as received him that is Jesus he gave them the power that word is another another word not Dunamis but he gave him exclusive she gave them the authority if you look that word up actually it also has under the heading in the lexicon another nature from an external source he gave them the authority they were then born of God not by the will of man not by blood but of God so note two things that had to happen God gave them exclusive that is Authority right to become the sons of God remember he went to his own his own received him not but as many as received him he gave them the authority to become the sons of God versus those who now are in that Upper Room on the day of Pentecost and the words to them go tarry in Jerusalem wait to be in Juden dynamited different word from on high now you can have authority but if you don't have power you don't have anything if you say I come here and I have authority I've got the authority to do this thing but the power hasn't been granted to you you don't have anything so both were needed the right the authority to become the sons of God born from above and the power that came from above and these two things which the King James when you're reading it's homogenized with English words but vitally important to make a distinction between these two things why is this important for us because I think many times when we begin to read remember as many as received him he gave them the authority and the day of Pentecost gave them the Dunamis which brings us to the day of Pentecost and Peters sermon standing up to preach and when he begins to preach he preaches with both authority and power this is equipment for service now there are many people who come into the ministry now I'm not talking just parishioners but people come I was at a Bible College one time and they had young folks that were they were preaching like preachers and training and some of them I'm sure knew the Word of God but there was no power behind what they were saying either if you want to say the lack of conviction or the lack of experience or the lack of life but it doesn't matter the bottom line is that as much as they might love the Word of God if there was no authority and power backing up what was being done there would be no there'd be nothing happening now that begs the argument what about those people who were missionaries who were called of God went into far-flung lands who their whole life devoted to preach the word and to make converts and they only got one does that there was something wrong with them no it means simply that a door was opened just like Paul a door was an effectual door was opened to those people but many other times it says for example that the spirit bade them not to go into a certain place and they weren't allowed to go in Paul's time it says the spirit forbade them to go to a certain place at a set time and then later on you find out one of the greatest revivals and riots is happening in Ephesus the very place where the spirit earlier said they shouldn't go they've got to go and the point is that maybe if they had gone at an earlier time and not listened to the leading of the Spirit something else would have happened but to listen to what's happening may produce something else and maybe for we'll call it those great missionaries it was to just get reach one convert in their lifetime why because then sorry I'm gonna tell you the way I see it maybe that great missionary would die get promoted hopefully the right way not killed by the natives and the one that was the convert would now stand in that place as a native with all of the people that could listen to this individual recognizing them as one of their own much like Jesus coming in the flesh we could recognize him as ourselves so there's a reason why doesn't always always clear but there's a reason why and I really believe that when we follow the equipping that comes to us by way of the Spirit of God there's a lot there that needs to be it's not just okay I receive this now I know what to do but understanding the tools that are given and that's why I said to you you cannot understand and it won't make sense except you follow the day of Pentecost what happens the promise that was given before Pentecost and Pentecost being the harvest of souls and if you want to just kind of see what made their authority fully effective go with me to the 4th chapter of the book of Acts and none of this by the way is my message this is just backgrounds for and thirty-one and when they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and they spake the Word of God with boldness and then again in verse 33 and with great power great Dunamis gave the Apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus and great grace was upon them all and again in the fifth chapter and the 28th verse now the word is starting to take hold and the high priest complains to the Apostles and says behold you filled Jerusalem with your doctrine now that would not have happened save that they were equipped for service and I've had many people over the course of the time as pastor here talked to me about my thoughts on how ministries stand or fall and I believe there is this missing ingredient now the success of a ministry is not the number of the people in the building it's those who are able to hear and receive and respond like these had preached in Jerusalem and the high priest has complained you filled Jerusalem with your doctrine means Jews and Gentiles it means barbarians it means any type of person that was in Jerusalem that heard the message that could respond the doctrine had filled Jerusalem that wouldn't have happened without the equipping that was given now some of us walk around and we think well what that's only in that day no it's not now there may be a different we'll call it a lesser less explosive thing just like it says that there were many miracles performed by the Apostle Paul but if you read that carefully it says many kind of special miracles performed by him and the reason why that has to be said like that is because there were abundant miracles happening in that day but miracles of this type had not been seen probably since the time of Christ and I'm not saying that he performed miracles that were like Christ but you know there's reports that they took these napkins and they placed them on people's bodies and they were healed and that's prompted a lot of loony Bin's in our modern time to do the same thing and think out and past you out a napkin and you'll be healed if you put it on you and that's your problem if you go there because you don't know where that napkins been but but what I do want to tell you is it's a special miracle so there were certain things done by Paul in Paul's day that were special to him and have not been seen and probably will not be seen again like that the likes of that will not be seen it's something you've gleaned from the original language and you find pretty quickly that's unfortunate there's a lot of lunatics out there that don't they would if they could only read Greek it might make more sense to them maybe now this is where I want to start this message all this is background to say we are not any different than the first church in this way the promise of God to call and to reconcile to choose that word in Ephesians Excel exitos to choose out from among those he didn't choose which puts that whole doctrine of God's gonna save everybody right in the garbage can because the Bible clearly declares that some are called out from among those who are not called and I referenced last week the parable the sower not all can receive the Word of God this is why when people come into a church and they're looking for all the other things they're not coming into the church for the reason the express purpose that the equipment was given by God which is to preach the word to declare the word to make it plain if Christ was the ex of Jesus of God the Father then they gift ministry to the church is the one opening up the exegesis the opening up of scripture to make plain to make clear so that is there's no confusion by the way the church is managed for two thousand years to bring lots of confusion by way of the doctrines of men and arguments over things that are quite irrelevant to your salvation know whether we should be sprinkled or whether we should be immersed you know whatever in fact one of my friends in ministry sent me a text telling me today was world communion day did you know that it's world communion day well I guess it was started in in the 1930s but I never heard of it I'm I'm reading this word here and I can't find it anywhere but anyway but you know god bless my friend she she just sent me that and I thought oh you know you learn something every day all right okay it's wonderful if I ever get too old to learn something but I'm concerned and interested about what's in this book and the equipping for you so what does this mean why did I give you all this background the foundation because there's a passage that I've even treated over the years I've dealt with it multiple times but I I'm seeing it in a different way today to make something clear to you if you are just like me and you maybe initially when you came to the faith you grappled with well how do I know like what does this mean how do I know you know that we know when I ask the question how do I know and are you confused about what I mean when I say how do I know has anybody confused about that because I came into the church hearing the message but I was kind of like well well how do I know that like I'm saved how do I know that I received this thing how do I know any of this well the first thing obviously is the desire to want to hear the word of God and hunger and thirst after that you're not looking for entertainment this is the problem with the modern church P are confused about why it's even called church ecclesia the out called ones or queue yacon those that are the lord's and if you're the lords or if you're the out called ones whichever whichever word you'd like to choose it brings you back to being a follower of Christ and learning about God and that learner has to come in wanting to learn out of this book and not out of the ideas and traditions of men you're never gonna get close to God I don't care what type of spirituality is presented to you whether it's rock music and everybody's got their hands up and the lights are flashing and they even blow a little smoke in there for good measure I don't know like maybe gonna make you feel like you're on clouds I'm able to feel like you're escaping hell I don't know I'm not against music by the way I love music you'll never get anybody who loves I love spiritual music I love the old hymns of the church I listen to secular music is to travel with the band and the band would play stump Pastor Scott you guys could never do it right the whole time they would they we'd be waiting to do a service and they'd be playing you know they play a couple of bars and I tell them what the song was you know I love music but and music has a place in the church but if all you're coming for is music to be entertained so that you don't have to apply yourself to learning about God's Word it's not gonna bring you very close to understanding and having the mind of Christ or even bringing you one step further into the kingdom of God for Christ's sake so I do this with a strong impression in my mind that there's an abundant witness out there of people who still haven't come into a church to have the scripture opened up to them to make it clear that this is not some funny doctrine or some fuzzy thing but rather straight from the Greek and I want to give you I was going to write out the Greek but I'll just give you the one Greek word and you can turn in your Bibles while I'm writing this I turn to Ephesians 1 and verse 14 and the word I'm writing here is the word at a bone will write it at a bone which kind of interesting I I'm adding something to my own learning you know this I said you can reach into this book a thousand times think you know and then you find out know you know I I didn't know that see if I can teach some of you old-time or something today some of you sitting there saying doubt it let's read verse thirteen first where it says in whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth the gospel of your salvation in whom also after that ye believed after you phased you were sealed that words / sealed is in the passive which means something acted upon you something acted upon you all go back to that a minute with that Holy Spirit of promise which is the earnest of our inheritance that word Etta bond earnest the earnest now I've taught on this passage before but I had not really paid attention to this that this word audubon remember Paul who is this incredible writer we're reading Greek however this is a Hebrew loan word this is the Semitic word it's not a Greek word and it comes straight out of the Hebrew edible so you can if you can read it you've got the I in fish that you can read if you read Hebrew which is read this way edible so it's actually this is actually a Semitic loan word now why is that important you know we read earnest right well first of all let me go back to seal and then we'll touch earnest because these two things have to be understood together sealed to close with a seal to denote security to mark with a seal of authenticity authenticity or certify genuineness this is the one I like the best though identification of ownership you were sealed makes you one of his he says I own you I bought you with my shed blood I something about that just makes my heart just go wow great you were sealed as I said passive that means that this sealing is an initiative of God God acting upon the person whose heart has been opened whose eyes have been open who's able to hear and receive may not understand everything because we can't but we when we begin we have a thousand questions and as we go we have a thousand or ten thousand more but this word for sealing in the New Testament of Kris 15 times eight are in revelation 4 here or I don't the other don't need to reference it but they all bring back this this idea of as I said denoting security mark of a seal of authenticity or to certify genuineness but most importantly for me in my example here identification of ownership and this word edible this word edible only occurs three times in the New Testament and why is this important because it it cannot it cannot be understood I've used the term part payment part payment like a deposit right well what's interesting is if you follow this word through the dictionaries and through the lexicons you find out that somewhere back here more in the transition between Greek and Hebrew this word was used of Earth somebody who is buying a parcel of land who had put some money down and taken the earth at least some part of the earth with them as a security that they actually bought this land very strange concept but yet it's really not strange and I'll tell you why there's good demonstration of it in the Bible you remember in the Old Testament you have naman who was that Syrian general and he is smitten with leprosy I hope I don't have to tell the whole matter here otherwise we'll be here a long long time but the point is he is brought to a conclusion about something after he's told to go and wash seven times and is obedient to the word that is given to him through the Prophet something interesting is said here in second Kings I'll read it you don't have to turn there naman recognizes the Lord is God as opposed to previously where he was part of a heathen worship and naman says he's asking he says I pray thee that there be given two mules burden of Earth it's very interesting that he asked for that he's asking for two loads of Earth to take back with him to his foreign soil he cannot stay in the land that he's in he must go back to his homeland where Riemann is worshipped but he recognizes the Lord and from that point on he wishes to bring two loads of earth with him back to his hidden temple so that when he stands even asked the Prophet to be forgiven in that place where he's going to have to stand but minimally he wants to be able to stand on two loads of earth that essentially came from the place where the the Lord was remember we're talking Old Testament and the idea is that he was bringing back with him a part a deposit if you will in his mind limited although limited of God's presence with him which kind of carries and conveys this idea of edible but if you want to know where this word edible occurs in the Old Testament this is the radical part I love this see God can't it's just like you know when you want to make a point about something it's it can really be hit home clearly I want to show you where this word Etta bone and the Hebrew occurs in your Old Testament so you can see that when I talk about a part payment of something that God already has said is mine I own it this is mine and I own it I'm gonna come and collect the son when I'm ready but right now I've put my certificate of ownership and authenticity and genuineness in you if you want to get the idea turn with me to Genesis 38 this message is all over the map but pretty important when you get there gonna say oh wow what does Judah and Tamar have to do with a certificate of authenticity okay if you don't know the story I'll give you the short version here this I got to read the whole thing because I think I'm gonna leave some people out here then it'll be like confused so give me need about five minutes of reading and then we'll talk about the edible came to pass at that time when Judah went down from his brethren turned to in a certain Dulla my Adela might whose name was Hera Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was schewe he took her went in unto her you know what that means she conceived bear a son and called his name what's your kid's name she conceived again bear a son she called his name Onan oh yeah no I didn't say oh yeah Onan she yet conceived again bear a son called his name Sheila thank God he doesn't live in Australia and he was at hezid when she bare him Judah took a wife for her his firstborn whose name was Tamar and Judis firstborn was wicked in the sight of the Lord and the Lord slew him Judah said unto Onan go in unto thy brother's wife marry her raise up seed to thy brother Owen and knew that the seed should not be his came to pass when he went into his brother's wife that he spilled it on the ground lest he should give seed to his brother and the thing which he did displeased the Lord wherefore the Lord also slew him nice so - and Judah then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law remain a widow at thy father's house tell Sheila my son be grown for he said lest peradventure he die also as his brethren did and Tamar went and dealt dwelt in her father's house in the process of time the daughter of schewe Judas wife died Judah was comforted went up unto his sheep shears in Timnath he and his friend here are the Adela might it was told Tamar saying behold thy father-in-law goeth up to Tim not to shear sheep to share his sheep she put her widows garment off from her covered her with a veil wrapped herself sat in an open place which is by the way I'm Timnath for she saw that Sheila was grown and was not given unto him to wife when Judah saw her he thought her to be a harlot he thought she was a because she'd covered her face he turned unto her by the way said go to I pray thee let me come into thee you know what that means knock-knock for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law and she said you're mine in the Bible now over there she said what will they'll give me the Tao me is coming under me and he said I will send the kid from the flock and she said without giving me a pledge till thou send it arrow born pledge and I want you to remember this crystal clear because this is like the certificate the undeniable undisputable when we talk about it into the New Testament it carries this weight he said what pledge shall I give thee she said thy signet thy bracelets thy staff that is the nine hand he gave it to her came in unto her and she conceived by him she arose went away laid her veil from her put on the garments of her widowhood Judas sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adela might to receive his pledge from the woman's hand but he found her not and of course eventually when it's revealed that she's pregnant you know self-righteous that he is he's literally put to death right well she says you know the thing is basically pretty simple it's yours and I can prove it you know the things that you gave me as a pledge I still got him right certificate of authenticity now I read this for a reason I want you to go back to Ephesians I read this for a reason to make a very important point if we understand what is being said which is the earnest of our inheritance and let me just go touch on that word inheritance which is Claira no meais in the Greek compound of Claro's land received by lot and Nemo to disperse or to distribute therefore it's the portion given or allotted and this Clara no yes this inheritance is a part of generative showing the the earnest of the Holy Spirit is only part but given it's that which says you are mine I own you until the time comes to fully redeem you in this is what's been given to you now when I talk about this I want I want this to kind of be like something where you say okay I got it if God has so graciously given this edible in this earnest I hate I really don't like that because it's too poetic this brings it home and this further out of the reference out of Genesis 38 drives it even clearer something that is undeniable unmistakeably belonging to as I said certifying ownership that means that God has given the deposit of his nature do not be confused with the words when people talk about the dwelling being filled and that that that very scary term that people tend to toss around the baptism of the holy spirit and these three things do not equal the same and I'm going to tell you why just briefly the one thing you can be guaranteed of is that to those whom God is called this is the way the letter to the Ephesians opens talking about those who are called out to those he has called out he has placed a part payment that is the certificate of ownership if you will saying you're mine now you still have the free will by the way to mess up that's the wonderful thing we're not wound up you know when people talk about Romans 8:28 God enters into all things to work is good for them that are called for his purpose well the his isn't in there his purpose that is I'll talk about that another time but my point is God does actually synergistically make things work because his presence the deposit of his presence has been given to you that doesn't mean that she won't get off the track and make mistakes and derail yourself because that does happen now this is why John says what's born of God cannot sin we're talking about what has been given to the believer that portion not the person themselves because all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God understand and distinguish between these concepts then there comes this moment of clarity that means that I've been given a form of equipment that if I'm understanding what God has graciously given to me I'm now reaching into the word I reference the sword of the Spirit the Word of God because it's vitally important to make that connection how can a person function as I said it's like saying I need a shirt but instead I put on socks if I don't understand the beginning of what God has given me now just because I use this word and say ownership and as I said Genesis 38 makes the Semitic really ring home that she was saying hey listen these are yours this is what you left to say this is what belongs to me so it's unmistakable that when we as children of God cry out talking to God praying to God Abba Father and we talk about the adoption we have been brought into sonship there also must come and understanding the equipment that's been given to you it's not just some random like I think people tend to paint this as some very poetic thing it's an abstract event but no it's a reality for every single believer that gives you ability to go into the book and begin to make start connecting these things if the earnest or the part payment is by the Holy Spirit that means when I reach into the word I am at least reaching in to get the guidance from what I've called what the Ephesian letter calls the sword of the Spirit that is my ability to do battle against the enemies of God the foes that come against me in my walk begin there I have that knowledge of how the equipment is used I go back to Jesus he's talking to the devil and the devil says you know turn these stones to bread it is written that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God in other words I begin to connect a piece of equipment necessary for me to continue my walk and stay on course and as I said it doesn't guarantee you won't fall off the track but it it almost is like an opening of the mind which I believe many Christians they'll read this earnest I've said many times like a coat-check but you know what God even that falls short you know you you you're going you check your coat at a coat check to give you a ticket you come back and you can get the whole thing back but that's wrong because it belonged to you in the first place this is something God has placed in you of him and he says read the whole thing here until the redemption of the purchased possession under the praise of his glory until that time whatever that time may be but until that time God's giving you and forgive me for saying it this way but he's given you the sealing of equipment that comes from him that form of guidance that form that leads you in all truth that form that if you keep combing the Scriptures you find described as truth described as one alongside and as I said if you're not looking at the provision where do I go when I need let's just sit talk in the natural if you're hungry and you want you need food or you want food you're not gonna go into your garage and get motor oil right are you me but I'm saying you would have to know that's not food for consumption it's not liquid you want to drink but now if you keep going you realize God's given tools and equipment for every step of the way I could very much depart from here and talk about the reality of all the other provision but it must start with what I know God has done for me the beginning point here now filled with the spirit sealed with the spirit or let's go back to Roman's where it says the indwelling Christ dwelling in you that makes you alive that quickens your mortal body it's the difference between men or women who can come into the church and they cannot hear and they will not hear versus those who are quickened made live in Christ and they desire to hear this is super important these things must be distinguished because apart from this as I said there is no other clear demonstration of how God operates in the life of a believer now we can talk afterwards about the fruit of the Spirit that is the outgrowth of what God has placed in you we can talk about the gifts of the Spirit which are Paul talks about Lee about but if you don't start off with understanding what God has done at the get-go how can you even go and claim what's on the shelf for provision for you to grab hold of in other words it's plenty to read this and say yes this is for the Ephesians and this is this is the idea that they've received no this is for every Cris those who come as many as received him he gave them the right the authority to become the sons of God those that received were dynamited from on high from power from the Holy Spirit right authority and Dunamis power going hand in hand to be able to stand and preach on the day of Pentecost three men endued with power in the Bible that I could talk about Peter Paul and Stephen and the reference comes back to their ability to speak things that probably at least for Paul and Stephen they knew because they were steeped in Judaism they knew full well and could impart at least explain but not the explanation including Christ and the understanding Stephens sermon which got him killed by the way Paul's preaching ultimately got him killed by the way and Peters preaching that's why the call the call of the call into the ministry is is open to anybody today that would like to step forward my point is these men it says specifically that they were filled with the Spirit of God and they were led by the Spirit of God and they were given the equipment and this is the same equipment that's given to each and every believer now if you don't know where the tools are the equipment is it's time to get in the word and start searching out those things that will help you make the journey as I said the one that confronts us most of the time are the attacks of the devil you see with that new gift that's given to the believer when I say new gift new life and the spirit lead person also comes great attacks I go back to the last time we baptized and I told the people after before and after please read that it was after Jesus it says speaks about the Spirit and then is baptized we have this event of an attack which seems to tell me that for the believer this is what you're going to encounter it's not going to be that you come to God and you know the path of every enemy and everything is moved away no it converges upon you and you've got to know how to wield the right equipment you know you're now being attacked by the devil I'll take off my helmet of salvation is that's a good tool to rip at people and you know the helmet can really hurt people no no there's only one thing that's gonna hurt your adversary who desires to devour you and that is the word of God's wielding the word of God will be that equipment to make it through now as I said I could spend the whole message trying to talk about all the pieces of equipment and everything that's given in the provision for the believer but one must start with understanding what has been given to you at the outset and this is why there's so much in the Bible Paul's writing in fact probably in more than three places that I can think off the top of my head where he talks about not quenching not grieving the care that we must have for the wonderful precious gift were given which is being mindful of that the starting point is recognizing somebody somebody bought me and I'm not I'm not in bondage I've been freed and that somebody is Jesus Christ and I've been bought by his shed blood and this wonderful gift that I didn't deserve which is called grace unmerited favor brings me into the realm of a son or daughter of God and gives me this this equipment at least we'll call it the control central of what I need which has been given to me and now I go into the ward and I begin to understand what is there that I may possess it in its fullness to get me to where I need to go along my journey I told you there's no way that I could possibly get all this out in one message don't be surprised if this is my subject next week if you don't want to hear about this next week don't come but I intend to at least keep hammering this home because until it becomes a reality for each and every one where you say I'm able to overcome but I do I will not overcome by the flesh I will not overcome by willpower but if I'm a Christian I am spirit lead I'm led by the Spirit of God and I'm empowered by that same spirit that makes me more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus that's my message folks you've been watching me pastor
