EP09: Productive Days, Gym, Food in Seattle | Days in the Life of a Meta Software Engineer

[Music] you don't have access to most of meta's [Music] resources [Music] thank [Music] you [Music] [Music] St [Music] I recently started a project which I've been working on for the past few weeks so there's basically four projects that kicked off at around the same time and they're all happening in parallel and they're all kind of related to each other so there's me representing our product team building new features into the product and then there is our sister platform team which is working on building infrastructure to support the new features and then there's an away product team actually that is working on building a different set of features into our product which depends on the features that I'm building and the infrastructure that my sister platform team is building and then there's also ux design for all of the new features so I've been involved in many many meetings for the past few weeks whether it's ux design uh product technical design whether it's for you know my features or the other team's features and also I've been really involved in the infrastru structure design as well oh and our product is in a pretty unique position where we don't have access to most of meta's resources or infrastructure so when my scope expanded and I needed to add additional infrastructure it came with a lot more meetings because I needed to like design this whole thing and then address all the cost and optimization concerns today is actually the first day in weeks where I can truly focus on coding because I only have one meeting today today's actually my annual performance review so the meeting went pretty well overall I got the feedback that I expected to get and also the rating that I was expecting which was exceeds of course just like last year I like this office I remember I came here when I was visiting from uh Shanghai I guess with my wife and girlfriend at the time and I had a friend who was a recruiter here [Applause] [Applause] [Music] a [Music] a [Music] [Music] hello hi Mak this [Music] [Music] video [Music] [Music] [Music] oh that's a push [Music] what if you sent this to PA be like you guys got this without oh I got a maybe that wasn't a double maybe that [Music] was [Music] yeah nice [Music] spee speech speech speech [Music] [Music] fore [Music] the one [Music] very [Music] good [Music] [Music] I was just here like [Music] last oh my God my first Hol Holo actually never I never actually had Hol Holo before look what's all in it is there beans some kind of jelly some other kind of jelly uh this boy paste maybe mhm and ice cre is that pudding on the top Le flan Le flan oh my God and and there's some other kind of stuff there's so much stuff in here it's so big all right let's try this so how do I eat this you mix it first with a spoon so I have to take the cap off no just put it here this hole is too small with a spoon what do you mean can't you it should fit oh it's not this is not this is not very efficient oh my God sip it all right whatever it's good it's a lot it's a lot of work to eat but it's good approved
