this is day something on the sailing vessel who knows what [Music] foreign [Music] just nearly 48 hours into the trip and we're about to go through our first wall line here it doesn't look too juicy but you can see a couple of thin Squall lines on the radar and it happens to be Captain by wallabers watch thank you hello fairies my old friend I've come to sit watch with you on again don't have the sea boots on yet there's one nice thing about the traffic the sun will be out in 20 minutes rule number one don't fall off the boat surf off the boat all right ready to go to outer space [Music] come on you're fast and they leave you fast well we made it through the little rain clouds scattered scattered rain showers and now I'm having some tea that Anne made me to warm up a little bit that was good and now we got a little bit more wind where it gets blowing 14 knots right on the beam so we're probably doing six knots he's a little straggler [Music] so we have been getting some erratic readings out of our depth sounder and boat speed sensor for instance it says we're in 30 feet of water right now we're actually ten thousand so we cleaned the hall but I didn't pull the sensor out and clean it specifically so we're going to do that and it involves opening up a two inch hole in the hull and then plugging it quickly so oh God it's exciting okay so we're gonna loosen this guy up and then we're gonna put this plug in so that we don't sink shoot up isn't it oh yeah ready [Music] Annie's turn she got the Short Straw another little rain cloud hopefully have some sun tomorrow it's been a rainy day working on our French phrases for our arrival I have a long way to go how do you say where are the bathrooms oh toilets day four the Pacific it's freezing as you can see I'm wearing my steam season the weather's disgusting low in 23 to 25 knots pounded in the waves gotta Reef jib and reef me still going six seven knots got 24 25 knots of wind gusting up to 27-28 really hoping that the winds will calm down a bit because these waves are massive the beginning is the hard part getting to the beam reach um to the Galapagos still a couple days away but I think that you know we just need to get through these next couple days and then we'll be smooth sailing you think captain it's been a rainy 24 hours rain rain rain rain we're gonna see the sun you ready to see the sun huh hopefully soon all right on tonight's episode of cooking with baller bear we are going to cook some tuna tacos we caught a tuna yesterday but it's been blowing like crazy so we haven't had a chance to eat it yet and we decided to attack it's a little easier to cook on the starboard Tech because the galleries on the starboard side so you can kind of wedge yourself in easier and we're gonna give it a go we have it on a like proper hot meal in a while so uh it's important to keep the crew fed jeez big wave we had very little wind today so we voted for a while but then we consumed our allotment of fuel for today so we decided we're just gonna drift and we actually rolled up all the sails there was so little wind there was no points so we rolled up all the sails and we were just starting to drift uh North which is backwards you can see there we haven't filmed that much it's been very rainy and gray and just been sort of making our way South so once we get to the trade winds I'm sure uh we'll liven up a bit yeah so it's a calm night at least and we're doing two and a half knots so we'll get some good sleep tonight and Hopefully the rain doesn't get more than this pitter patter that we're having I realize this is just pitch black video so hope you enjoyed that pitch black panoramic of the Pacific Ocean we turned downwind uh to take care of a few chores because it's really hard when you're healed over and now we're going to turn back upwind so this is what the boat is like when we're sailing downwind oh so nice so flat you're cooking use the restroom without bracing yourself against the wall gonna see what it's like when you're back upwind [Music] so tough tough living on the on the Wind if you can see where we're yelling over 15 20 degrees last night was more like 20 25 20 degrees there like this for days just very unconscious as most as much as possible so it's uh day seven here crossing the Pacific Ocean we've been pretty much close hauled for the last five or six days and today is no exception although the wind is slowly shifting South so we're actually uh we're not making any more northing we're making a bit of southing and as the days goes on we should level out but right now we're living at 20 degrees see the clothes hanging off the hooks off the bunk head and he's on watch out there I just made some breakfast and now I'm gonna make some water and the Sun finally came out we haven't filmed much it's been really gross really Gray last couple of days we've actually got some sun so that's nice good for the solar panels for sure Otto's got the helm steering of course around 265 just south and west and we are tracking towards the Galapagos Islands hopefully where we will meet the North Pacific equatorial current a little boost so about 600 miles to the equator and then another in total will be like 3 400 miles from here to the Marquesas so quite a bit of ways to go but we're starting to make real progress what do you think Annie still living at 20 degrees but um I just thought I'd show you guys we're downloading the weather 3 400 miles to go and just want to see what the weather routing looks like and read the gmdss bulletins and look at the satellite imagery so yeah it's gonna take forever these are relatively large piles because it's a really big area but um we're doing it over at satellite link um it's gonna take a while but I'll check in with you when it's done today we're having the Mahi we caught yesterday and some zucchini fingers right up and turn downwind a little bit to make cooking easier and be delicious foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you every morning we put out the fishing lines this is our Mahi Slayer let's secure the line in a clip so that when you get a pull you hear a snap this is a squid we're gonna deploy him on the starboard Outrigger you know next up we've got the cedar plug it's a wooden plug caught a tuna on this one before we're gonna put this one on the port Outrigger it's made out of a ginger ale can it's a short line which we use to attract the fish is the psycho just wait and see [Music] thank you last night the wind died and we hadn't run the engine in a while so we thought we'd just motor for a couple hours in the middle of the night and we tried to turn the engine on but it would not turn on wouldn't even turn over so we think there might be something wrong with the electrical or the starter motor I'm trying to figure out if we're gonna have an engine when we pull into hemoa oh okay there she is the beak Pelicans Mr beak 58 horsepower I am this thing is like the Bible on a boat Nigel calders Boat Owners mechanical and electrical got everything in here so first we're gonna bypass the solenoid and directly energize the starter motor to see if if we skip the solenoid will the starter spin now it won't start the motor because without the solenoid the starter won't engage the flywheel but at least we'll see if the starter motor itself which we do not have a replacement for a little turn so there might be some sparks don't be alive foreign okay so the starter motor obviously works which is good news we do have a spare solenoid and then once we get to French Polynesia we'll have to maybe Source a a true heavy duty Marine solenoid today we have air fried mahimahi with avocado and cap red cabbage and onion slaw topped with a homemade garlic iron it's a laundry day middle of the Pacific Ocean up the clothesline it's a bit windy but uh we just put the clothesline through all the clothes so they won't fly away it's movie night we're making popcorn [Music] what is it [Music] perfect [Music] 37 degrees foreign oh gosh okay it's uh ten and a half pounds nice this is half of the tuna we got all vacuum sealed ready to go into the freezer this is day something on the sailing vessel who knows what this is TVC reporting from live on the selling vessel Pelicans and who's in his shop well here we are sailing uh West mostly and uh 15 knots of wind we're doing about seven knots over the ground now the sun is rising it's a change of shift I'm going to bed and is waking up there's a cargo ship off the port Bell headed for Vancouver I assume I'm from Cape Brown I don't know this is the first ship that we've seen they might that's right first ship we've seen in days and we still don't actually see it we just picked it up on radar let's check it out sunrise [Music] [Music] foreign Reloaders hitchhikers [Music] because we're not super hard on the Wind anymore we're more respectable sail angle we are using the wind Bane so this is our backup autopilot we have a below deck hydraulic autopilot but we also have a monitor wind vane and this is entirely mechanical so there's no electricity involved you can see there is a wind vane it's a piece of wood and if that tips over because we come off of course it moves this paddle that's down in the water paddle pulls on these control lines on the steering wheel so if we fall off course the wind will come from the other side of the vein tip the vein over which twists the paddle the paddle then swings to one side and pulls on the control lines which then turns the wheel kind of like a rude Goldberg machine but it works really well and uh it's really good to have a backup autopilot and doesn't require any electricity what do you think Annie [Music] cheers coffee out of the lucky seahorse mug that Mr cat gave me It's a beautiful morning it was really gray and blustery when I came out here at 6am but sun has come out now oh and the sky is blue and water's looking blue winds blowing 18 knots and we have a reef in the jib and a reef in the main and we're still going six seven knots making great progress Wes now just uh just arrived to the region of the Galapagos we're at two degrees 10. 273 minutes north and 89 degrees 55.841 minutes West once we get to 90 degrees we'll be due south of New Orleans what are you what's on the plan for today uh we are going to have breakfast and then um maybe read some Shakespeare together [Music] all that matters is fishing sleeping and sailing out here and a warm cup of coffee yeah a hot cup of coffee goes a long way so fresh it's amazing it's one of the best parts of being out here is catching those fish you always wanted to catch a tuna I know but yeah life is good out here at sea foreign [Music] [Applause] three thousand miles to go July first it's uh 14 55 local time 20 55 Super Time July 1st 3 000 nautical miles to go passing the Galapagos Islands ready as she goes [Music] hey guys it's uh Brian here today uh 11. it's uh 3 A.M in the morning local time I think we're in UTC minus six so that's like uh um 9am Disney time anyway uh yeah it's nice calm night it's like blowing eight to ten knots we're doing like between uh five and six knots it's very calm seas so just it's almost like sailing in a lake uh enjoying it getting some good rest and it's down below sleeping I'm on watch from um uh two to six I just thought I'd show you guys a little setup so when shift um kind of hang out here uh underneath the Bimini or the Dodger nice little Spike to stay out of the wind bird it's cold we're like in valleys and wearing like flannel pants and stuff but then I brought a thermometer out it's been we've been complaining about how cold it is it's uh nothing it's just it's 75 degrees but we're pretty we're pretty acclimated to 90 so 75 is pretty cold but we're like freezing and um we can mirror uh mirror the chart plotter on our phones so we don't have to get up and look at the chart plotter we can just look at a mirror of it on our phone and then of course we have our uh we have our wind display here so I'm denying what the wind is doing which is the most important thing and that's it if you want a good look and yeah so you can read some books this is podcasts and just look out for ships we're still fishing I don't think we're gonna catch anything at night but um we'll be ready to go for the morning we might catch a shark all right guys well this is primer walk checking in from Night Watch day 11. even if they were up on the solar panels squid on our road got some squid for breakfast makes good bait calamari for breakfast that's a good bait so it's much like being on a spaceship out here on a sailboat sometimes it's not zero g but it's how we get through the boat oh God surfing it's like a tuna another tuna go and be fruitful went backwards this line is taut this line is taut this Outrigger actually on cliffs time to reel them in and find out what we got this is the bluefin tuna got him up her second cutting and Hasley tuner Wrangler with her double catch having sushi tonight let's see your work turn it sideways nice well we've been uh really jonesing for a Mahi so we've even though we just caught two fish we threw out the Mahi Slayer foreign today we're gonna have some cheeseburgers celebrate Mad Dog gave me a recipe for some butter buns so that'll be good we'll make some brownies too it's flour egg butter sugar and salt for the dough [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] our first attempt at hamburger buns these look like they're going to be more like biscuits what do you say ship biscuits you know they said something else like you know like like rations you know like some grueling heart attack it's hard attack biscuits all right we got our buns and we buttered them and we're gonna put them in the oven for 15 minutes godspeed godspeed buns happy Fourth of July [Music] [Applause] [Music] looking at some the rest of the weather forecasts [Music] some psychonic activity north of us but not a concern because we're below the hurricane belt and they will always move to the north We are continuing West Coast but you can see where uh the the second Cyclone is um it's affecting our wind a little bit we're getting a little uh wind is a little more south than it would be otherwise I think [Music] originally the itcz so this is the doldrums the purple is no wind [Music] ing work far south itcz which is normally further south but the this is where you get caught in the Gold Room so we're we're pretty far south of that hopefully and we're staying uh we're staying north of the equator to avoid this area of higher winds and waves so we're gonna stay around between one and two degrees until we get here and then we'll uh take a dive down to the marquesis see how windy is down here tonight we are having a pan-seared mahi-mahi in a honey mustard marinade and spaghetti with mushrooms onion and garlic foreign [Music] foreign [Music] make seven today throw it on the ocean huh don't fall off [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music]
