Just listening to this without the video and noticed that Peterson seems to be voiced by Bob Odenkirk.
Overall a pretty good discussion. I really liked Pinker's answer to which forces were responsible for the enlightenment and if Christian values had anything to do with it.
Peterson raises the question of why people are so pessimistic. Honest question: isnβt Christianity apocalyptic in some ways? I was raised Catholic and received a message of βhopeβ (we need faith, God is there, etc) but I wonder about Evangelicals and other interpretation.
Pinker teleportation at 30m mark confirmed to me he is from another planet.
I would have expected that Peterson would have pushed back against Steven Pinker's optimistic view of the world. I hear Peterson always talking about how "life is suffering". If, as Steven Pinker has said, that we are even getting happier due to progress then perhaps there might become a point where the setbacks in life are always outweighed by the positives.
Here is a link to a typical statement Peterson says about life:

I think this conversation is good for Peterson's reputation among a certain clique in academia. For someone who respects Pinker, it will be hard to listen to the conversation and claim that Peterson is a quack. Peterson also gets to flash his optimism, as well as ridding himself of the right-wing label: Pinker occationally comes off as more right leaning than him.
Using the word "Enlightenment" and "Jordan Peterson" in the same sentence is laughable.
I Wish they had talked about Nietzsche because Pinker calls him one of the most overrated intellectuals ever, whereas Peterson calls him one of the most genius.
