in this american english pronunciation lesson we're focusing on connected speech to help you improve your pronunciation process and communication in english part of what makes it difficult to understand native english speakers and what makes it challenging to speak english fast and fluently is the phenomenon connected speech connected speech is when the pronunciation of words changes slightly due to the other words that they are next to for example stand alone pronunciation will always be different from connected speech pronunciation so pronouncing a word by itself will have different pronunciation from a group of words in a sentence this is because the context and the environment alter the pronunciation in american english we lean heavily on connected speech which can sometimes be confusing to second language learners of english who might not be expecting different pronunciation so to make things easier for you i'm sharing 17 phrases to learn using connected speech and knowing these phrases will help you to do two things one to understand native english speakers more clearly and two to speak english more fluently so in this lesson i will be sharing the phrases as well as an example sentence that i would like you to make note of and repeat as practice if you're ready let's get started could you in connected speech we say cue cue the same pronunciation as the
