It was really hard to invite them to our studio. Please welcome BTS. According to the Social Distancing measures,
we should wear a mask indoors. But we received a permission
from the Seoul Government that the news host and guests can take off their masks
when it is necessary to ensure a clear speech and smooth operation of the show. So now shall we take off our masks? Finally, I see your faces. Wow, cool. Welcome to our show. This is the first time you came to News 9. Would you like to say hello to our viewers? Let’s take turns clockwise starting with Jin. Ok. I will go first. Hello, I am Mr. Worldwide Handsome Jin of BTS. Hi, I am Suga. Hello, I am Jimin. Hi, I am RM. Nice to meet you. Your introductions are so simple. Hello, I am your hope, j-hope Hi, I am your hope, V. Hello, I am Jungkook. Nice to meet you all. It have been really long since you came to KBS
because of COVID19. You have been to Music Bank. How do you feel like being in the newsroom? It’s more serious and heavy. This is my first time being in the newsroom. It’s fascinating. We are also exited and thrilled to have you here. First of all, congratulations on topping
the Billboard singles chart for 2 weeks in a row! Thank you. International media agencies are
also praising your achievement. Thank you. Jimin, does it feel real? Not really. Actually when we have such good news like this, we meet with our fans, and hug,
laugh and cry all together to celebrate. But we can’t do it because of the current situation,
so it was a little bit sad. But it’s an honor to be on the news
and I hope our fans also like this. It is very difficult for non-English language songs
to enter the Billboard Hot 100. Yes, it is. Why is Dynamite so successful? And how did it win universal sympathy
from all over the world? What do you think, Suga? Well, the situation is bad in Korea and around the world. When we are making this song,
we really wanted to cheer our fans up by doing what we can do and what we can do well. And thankfully our fans loved our song very much and I think that’s how we got here. Dynamite is a very upbeat funky disco music. Did you choose this genre intentionally
because we are in this situation now? Well, in this difficult period when people are sad or depressed, there are many ways people can do
to console or overcome them. But we faced it head on and found disco pop
to make people happy and hopeful. We thought we needed to find a way
to make people happy and hopeful. So we did that. V, do you feel like a world star? It feels more real than before. Friends of our family members tell us they are ARMYs
and many of my friends also joined ARMY. Whenever I hear that, it cheers me up. When we were entering the newsroom building, thankfully many people were rooting
for us and congratulated us. So we realize that we are popular
when we see these kinds of response. We didn’t even meet such reaction
when we went to Music Bank. I heard you also went through difficult times
in early days. There were times when we had to catch
fruit flies with a vacuum cleaner because a banana went bad in the dorm
and there were too many fruit flies. Sometimes we had to eat only chicken breasts. But I feel fortunate that we got good results now. What are different between then and now? When we didn’t make enough profit,
we had limits for what we could eat. But now I can eat what I want. If I want to eat two pieces of beef steak, I can do that. I feel more relaxed. Back then, I looked impatient
and dogged but now I am more relaxed. Then what did not change? What do you keep doing?
Jungkook, what about you? Our looks and personalities have changed and softened, but one thing that didn’t change is
how we feel about our fans and our attitude toward music and our sincerity. I think your teamwork didn’t change either. It’s been 7 years the seven members of you
have been together, right? The title of the album released
early this year was also seven. Without the teamwork, it wouldn’t have been possible. How do you maintain good teamwork? Do older members discipline other members,
or does the leader comfort them? We get on with each other very well,
which helps us maintain good teamwork. And whenever there is something, we always gather to discuss
and garner our opinion to get good results. So we don’t need to be disciplined. We respect and care for each other.
I think that how we got here. I often compare us being on a boat,
looking in different directions. The seven of us were raised and lived in
different environment with different likings. So we cannot be the same all the time. But as long as we keep in mind
that we are on the same boat. Getting too close can also cause problems. So maintaining a proper distance
from each other and trusting and respecting each other are the secret
to our good teamwork. Trust and respect. I see. Now let’s talk about music. Where do you get inspiration for music? Suga? Inspiration... Idea? Actually there is no clear answer to that.
I like writing and taking notes. So I always record many things
such as music and lyrics. These things pile up and I use them
one by one whenever I need something. So every moment is inspirational to me.
I can’t think of any special moment. If I may add to that, we always interview
our company members before producing an album. First we study our feelings, what stories we want to tell
or what themes we want to show in advance, and then we consult with the company
to see how we can piece the puzzle together. I wonder, j-hope, you briefly mentioned the May 18
Gwangju Democratization Movement in the lyrics. And Suga, you embraced Korean traditional music
Daechiwita in your song. Are these the result of such process through
which you discuss your emotions and state of mind? That’s right. I think as an artist, being able to
write a song with stories I want to tell is an honor. I thought it was a part of history
that should not be forgotten so I wondered how I could talk about this
through music. And since Suga worked on Daechwita… Well, I wrote Daechwita almost a year
before the album was released. When the release date was getting closer, I simply thought the concept
and the songs would be good. The start was very simple. Your overseas fans also liked it very much. I know it’s hard to choose one over another
but are there any favorite songs? Dynamite My favorite song is I Need U. It was our first song to be ranked No.1
on the music chart, so I feel more attached to I Need U. I see. Now let’s move on to other questions. It is not easy for Asian artists to get a spotlight
in the western pop culture. They are more likely outsiders but then
now you became the mainstream and sympathized by people from all over the world. What is the secret? Actually I don’t know if we really are in the mainstream. But anyway entering the Billboard chart
itself is symbolic and topping the Billboard chart for 2 weeks in a row
was totally unexpected for us. I think Dynamite broke the language barrier of English
which made it easier to access. And as I told you earlier, disco pop is a familiar genre
to not only adults but many people. So they are used to it. And in this circumstance, facing the problem head on
and upbeat and simple, hopeful messages also played their role. Above all, a lot of people wonder
and ask how we got here. Well, I want to say that our song was listed
on the Billboard main chart starting from 2015. And there were some points
we tried to tap on since then. We didn’t strategically plan how we could
move up the Billboard chart but I believe our sincerity we have appealed
regardless of nationality or race reached the hearts of many people
and they also become our fans. And Dynamite is the result of all this
piled-up energy exploding. Wasn’t it also partly thanks to ARMY,
don’t you think, Jimin? Of course, absolutely. In fact, we have had
very close bond with our fans. From the time when our team was very small until now, we always felt that we were doing everything together,
like songs, music and at the stage. So I thank them and hope to meet them soon
and thank them in person. Really. I also studies a lot so I don’t get scolded by ARMY. You always express gratitude to ARMY
including this time when you hit No.1. And as Jimin said, you seem to have
a very close relationship. Where does it come from? V? First of all, because they have been
with us through hard times. We shared every moment of sadness,
happiness and celebrations. So I want to say ARMY knows us better
than anyone ever has. You seem to communicate with ARMY all the time. Yes, it is important. We try to communicate with them
on SNS all the time. In fact, communication is very important
especially during times like these. So we are trying to say hello to our fans
and keep them updated. Alright then, let’s communicate. She is the commander of
Korea’s coronavirus control efforts. Director Jeong Eun-Kyeong of Korea’s Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention asked questions to BTS when she heard
you are coming to KBS. It’s an honor. We always appreciate
her hard work and efforts. She asked how you communicate with your fans
during this time of non-contact COVID19 era. First of all, as we experience this situation, I am thankful that we are living in times when there are many ways to communicate, like through the Internet and SNS. As V said earlier, whenever we are happy, on my birthday,
and when we hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100, we want to share our thoughts
and feelings with ARMY first. They are the most important ones to us. Director Jeong suggested an idea to BTS. Would you like to challenge with something special
to BTS to all the young people around the world who have to live in this non-contact era? Tae-hyung will challenge.
He came up with this creative idea. This is my personal opinion. Nowadays people
cannot do many things because of COVID19. So suppose it’s over. It is finally over. Then what is the first thing you really want to do? You can write it down or show or express in drawings.
How about doing that? So it is a Dream Challenge. It’s a good idea. That’s how we get over the pandemic. What about household chores challenge? Clean your house looking back
on the things you didn’t do normally. You can clean your house at the same time. That’s a good idea. There are a lot of questions for you
on the board of KBS as well. And this is a request from ID 'Misaeng'. You sang Arirang in France before.
Can you sing it again? I became your fan after watching that performance.
You made it very cheerful. Did Jin and Jungkook sing at that time?
Can you sing? Ari arirang, suri surirang,
We did something like this. The performance was tougher than we thought.
We did something similar to IDOL. Yes, yes. Perhaps just a little in the beginning? Didn’t we do something like this? Ari arirang, suri surirang, arariga natne. Thank you. It was a long time ago.
Almost 5 years ago. We’ve talk about this before, people spend more
and more time at home because of the pandemic. You were showing some games
at home without contacting others. j-hope was making a beads bracelet and Gimbap. Is there anything else you want to do? Yes, I made a few things.
I wanted to do what I didn’t usually do. I am not good with hands so I want to try making things
like wood carving or sculptures. And I want to share them with our fans. And now that you have more free time for your own. I heard RM started working out.
Jungkook is practicing guitar and Suga is painting. What else are you doing? Since the pandemic began, we shared our daily lives
more often through different platforms. Thanks to that I got some new hobbies. We want to show you more of us
during this period of time. I started playing guitar again.
I am working on it but it is not easy. I want to share moments like that.
We are also working on the next album. I will look it up and try too.
Now let me ask your next plan. Obviously fans will be looking forward to your concerts. You must be said when the concert tour was canceled. But I hear that you will hold a concert in October.
What about that? We will proceed with the concert as planned
but it depends on how the situation unfolds. Also we have to wait and see whether the fans
will watch online or come to the offline concert. But we guarantee you the quality of performance
even if it goes online. So no worries and I hope you watch us. The Bang Bang Con was quite successful. Are there anything you want to try if the October concert is held online? It was our first time holding a concert online. The running time was very long so there was a delay
in communicating with our fans. If we do it again, I want to listen to the fans
and respond more quickly. I see. Looking forward to it. And also there will be a new album coming up soon. Can you tell us a little bit about what it is like? I can’t tell what it is like right now, but there are
many songs that are just like Dynamite or even better. So I hope you look forward to it. And now that I saw Dynamite hitting No.1
on the Billboard, I sometimes imagine how good it would feel like if the entire album
is charted on the Billboard Hot 100. All the members contributed
a lot this time to this album. So each member has played their own part? Yes. So please remember that
when you are listening to the new album. Each album had a message like find yourself.
This time, what message would you like send? We tried to tell different stories about sadness
and joy and just things as we feel them. But I will stop here. This is as far as I can tell. We made songs about how the seven of us
youngsters feel at the moment. We may not live like just other normal young people but we wrote about how we feel now
and what we think they might need at the moment. So I hope you all enjoy our songs. That’s all. I have to ask this questions about your next goal
to Suga since all you have said is realizing now including hitting No.1 on the Billboard. So what is your next goal? Is it the Grammy? Yes, well, for now. I have been lucky. I personally want to be nominated in the Grammy.
Nominees can perform at the Grammy Awards. So after giving our solo performance at the Grammy,
and if it is possible, and this is only my hope and I am not sure if I can say this, but if we can win the award, that would be just so… That’s not what we can decide though. But we can still dream. It’s my hope. If you win the Grammy, please come to KBS again. Of course. It would be an honor for us too. What would you like to do
after performing and winning the Grammy? Just like we did after winning the Billboard
and after the AMA. We ate together and went to sleep early
because we were so tired. I think we would do the same.
And we are also very simple. We did one live broadcasting on the day our song topped
the Billboard and went back to practicing. Nothing special really. Before you go, can you say a word to ARMY
and all the viewers around the world who are going through difficult times
because of the coronavirus? We talked about Challenges before. I understand there are many people who are
suffering because of the pandemic. We also went through difficult times and we couldn’t
go ahead with a very big scheduled event, so the situation is very dire. But still many people are putting efforts
and we need to go along with those efforts and do something, anything we can do in our daily lives,
find something that is comforting. Nowadays it can be boring
but I hope you try to stay happy. And that’s how we are spending our days now. One more? Anyone? Honestly I am heavy-hearted. I cannot dare to say
I understand those who are suffering now. But Dynamite couldn’t have been born
if there was no pandemic. So as people say the good comes with the bad. So I believe when there is a bad thing,
there is also a good thing. I don’t know how long this will last, but I believe the shadow gets darker during the night
and the sun will rise at some point. So I know it’s a tough time
but we are doing the best we can, so I really hope that everyone stays healthy and well. With this spirit, should be say fighting before you go? Sure, we will shout it out loudly.
Two, Three, Fighting! Wow. It’s good. Thank you. I believe the good influence and positive energy from BTS will be sent out to all our viewer and those who are suffering around the world. Thank you very much for coming today.
