today is the day before first day clinical rotations ! got the last Disney one on sale taking in a new family carrot cuz my watermelon pencil case is about to explode 🥕 now I need a mini-notebook… “my grades are so tiny and cute can’t buy this one because it might actually happen ended up getting the cute one with my selfie on it >< the yellow one is mine, and blue one is for my friend they didn’t have the pen I was looking for I wore knew loafers yesterday = foot scars & peeling everywhere 😢 I heard chocolate mushrooms are good for wound healing (???) stop pretending like you’re not sure if you want it or not super socks for my scarred feet I think I suddenly need some cushions okay fine I’ll just shop for the things I “really” need really wanted this cutie but it’s too small for my huge feet (size 39~40) I guess this is cute enough do you need a bag? Nope~ I brought my own bag I wanted to get my stationaries from “ArtBox” (everything there is super cute) but as you can see I literally last minute shopped at Daiso cuz I procrastinated during the break :) but legit shopping starts now I have a CVS gift card that’s expring soon (10,000 won) ice tea for some sugar circulation soy milk for breakfast somehow ended up buying items on promotion only can’t believe I’ve only reached half the amount 🥰 how polite of the monitor to point out that literally everything I bought is on promotion ^^ I am now genuinely ready to start clinical rotations keeping my milk in my windowgerator so I don’t forget to take one in the morning these are some gifts I received at my White Coat Ceremony 👩🏻‍⚕️ hopefully I’ll be able to edit a video on it along with my break vlog ! the time has come as it says in the title of this video, my first round of clinical rotations is General Surgery (GS) since GS is one of the major specializations at a hospital, it’s a 4 week rotation woops forgot my scarf woops forgot my milk woops forgot my bag (?) good bye for reals 👋 GS rotations start at 6:50am at the ward every day, and it’s literally freezing cuz it’s still February my new loafers are still so painful but they’re still capable of crossing the road on time our group decided to meet at 6:20am and prepare for our presentation but I left my pen-light in my locker, so I had to stop by what is this and why is it here treasure hunting to see if there’s anything useful to take notice my fingers red from the cold? 😭 wait isn’t this Raynaud’s Phenomenon say ah~ finally heading to the hospital now how many Dias do you spot? I’ve barely been awake at this time of the day, so I’ve obviously never been at the hospital at this time either ~ how peaceful ~ arrived at the PK(PolyKlinic=student doctor) room GS students go to work the earliest, so my group and I are the only ones here stethoscope 🩺 taking everything I can since it’s the first day hopefully I have everything? off to the ward! after ward round and conference, the sky is finally bright like this (around 8am) can’t believe it’s not even 10am yet when so much has happened already just finished morning ward rounds and am making a to-do list of things to check and study today during ward rounds, we follow professors as they meet hospitalized patients - it was an amazing first experience! our hospital’s GS department is divided into 4 main parts: Hepatobiliary, Upper GIT, Breast & Thyroid, ColoRectal each person spends a week on each part, then rotates within the group - I’m starting with the Colorectal part! my other groupmates went to observe surgeries in the operating room, but I don’t have any today but I do have outpatient clinic observations in the afternoon, so I’m studying for it! going to have lunch before outpatient observations(at 1:30pm)! I only had 2 hours of sleep yesterday cuz I was too nervous because GS is well known as being one of the toughest specializations during clinical rotations 🥲 so I’m going to take a nap after quickly vacuuming this done! professor had so many patients today that he had no time to ask me any questions and check if I studied 😭 organizing things I learned while observing outpatient consults before I go home I couldn’t film much in the hospital as there are so many things to be aware of I hope you understand :) ended the day by sharing how our day went with my group mate winner of dirtiest mirror competition I have no memory after yesterday’s dinner cuz I fell asleep right away came out later than usual cuz I don’t have to make a presentation today no wonder it’s so cold ❄️ almost became roasted Dia bbq ⚡️ to the ward ! <daily morning schedule> 6:50am - pre-rounding w/ Residents 7:30am - conference (student presentation) 8:00am - morning rounds w/ professor ~then off to the operation room for surgery observations! Professor bought me coffee 🥰 organizing this week’s surgery schedule it’s important to study the patient undergoing surgery before going into the op. room for example: the patient’s diagnosis and past history, location of the disease, and the type of operation he/she will have without studying all this, you’ll literally just be standing there not learning anything and just wasting time trying to analyze image studies such as X-rays and CTs to find the location of the disease is the hardest 😂 but as usual, I was eventually able to recognize what I’m looking at after continuous days of studying professor gave me a looong list of things to study as he bought me this coffee but I was still so happy and was busy showing off my very first “professor coffee” ☺️ studying Right Hemicolectomy Operation (Colon Cancer) Excited finally getting ready for my very first surgery observation! trying to maintain my messy hair within the cap woops forgot to change masks Fighting ! done after 4 hours of observation! see the mark on my forehead? 😆 though I’ve been dismissed, I still have a task left I have to get my presentation for tomorrow confirmed by the Residents at the ward my microwave cooked me dinner as soon as I got home OOTD: exhausted teddy bear professor coffee again 🥰 along with tons of things to study 🎉 preparing for my next surgery (today there’s surgery all day from morning to night) I’ll be making a case presentation on the operation I’m going into now, so I’m quite excited but it’s another big surgery(colon cancer), so I’ll probably be discharged from the operation room again but I’m back only after watching about 2 hours of the surgery having a hard time trying to hide my joy - no I mean sadness school ordered all students to get a PCR test and leave the hospital by 3pm~ it’s my 3rd swab attack already but hospital PCRs hurt more, so we’re all scared 😂 but we’re happy to do it over and over if they’ll let us go home early bread shopping at the hospital bakery after receiving a negative on the PCR test they’re giving 5,000won coupons for every purchase over 10,000won so I actually earned money buy spending money hehe 😝 today I attended 3 hemorrhoid operations, which are relatively simple gosh I’m hungry My stomach is always growling after ward rotations cuz we walk for 30mins~1 hour, visitng every patient my groupmate :) Yum you have to write a plan for every problem on the list we have to make a presentation every Mon, Wed, and Fri (+ every other Thursday) tomorrow’s Friday, so here I am preparing for the presentation the presentaiton we have to make every Friday is called “Patient Briefing” I have to study a patient that has recently undergone surgery and make a presentation on their current health status it’s so cool cuz I actually attended this patient’s operation attending surgeries during GS rotations is always fascinating but actually meeting the patient after surgery and watching them go home after they’re all cured will forever be the most inspiring experience for me ☺️ my new fav. bread: Cheese & Olive Ciabatta ✨ checking things I need to ask the patient during pre-rounds tmrw (I’m dead) 1. Lab / Diagnostic studies 2. patient’s symptoms 3. Input & Output (waste) 4. current diet (I’m screwed) maybe I’ll do better standing up? (Send help) the patient did not have other symptoms such as dyspnea kept messing up my vocabs :( all GS presentations need to be done memorized COMPLETELY I think I have about 126 more practices left ^^ wanna go home already I almost got a heart attack but at least the presentation is over 😬 I’ll be staying in the Operation Room all day this afternoon, so I’m eating lunch beforehand ~ studying ~ my first week at the hospital was simply just me depressed and worried if I’ll be able to survive the rest of the year but I’m surprised at how my life seems so chill in the video haha off to the ward after surgery for afternoon rounds 🏥 🏃‍♀️ Sundary morning, 7am today we came on a Laparascope & Endoscope Workshop with professors and residents still not completely awake but my eyes open when I see food I wanna take this whole basket home I had the amazing experience of observing surgery from even closer and learned so much 👀 professor bought us beef for dinner 🥰 abalone for dessert~ back home and preparing for tomorrow’s presentation with my exhausted voice *presentation on how a patient was diagnosed and how he/she will be operated I was supposed to be super nervous cuz every GS professor and residents were there for the presentation but I was too tired to feel anything, so I actually did really well! hehe This week, I’m in the the HepatoBiliary part Monday has the most surgeries throughout the week since it’s right after the weekend Just finished observing a cholecystectomy surgery and there’s 10mins left until the next one I always feel like someone beat up my entire body after standing 3 hours straight in a surgery 😂 so when there’s no one else in the changing room like this, I try to rest my legs as much as possible my respect for professor and everyone else in the operation room increases day by day 📈 it’s week 2 and I still get lost in the hospital wrestling with the Sabiston textbook I just borrowed today was another day of me learning new things while realizing how insufficient I am Have you ever heard of Mirrizi’s Syndrome? Mirrizi’s Syndrome,,, it’s my first time ordered an ID card holder with my groupmates! I’m a princess rabbit that loves 🥕 the rabbit fell off after exactly 2 weeks of usage, and I haven’t seen it since,,,pls let me know if you see it 🥲 now I can easily use my card to go into the ward or operation room! I love the view of my seat 🌅 I was randomly assigned here, but the view always makes me want to film a time-lapse 🥰 Teddy Blake sent me some bags as a gift :) All Teddy Blake bags are made in Italy with quality leather next cutie pie: card wallet the leather is so smooth but hard enough to maintain the design ☺️ excited to bring this bag with me to the hospital Thank you for the bags <3 the sky is a little brighter than last week but it’s still dark and cold back from morning rounds… my foot was aching so so badly this morning, so I finally checked it and found blood :( my foot was swollen really badly, so my toes got squished and scratched by the toenails I attended 3 surgeries in a row yesterday today will be the same ^^ will I seem like a pervert if I brag that my toe is bleeding? today I’m observing a robotic surgery, so I can watch while sitting on a chair (no standing!) I literally ran down to the CVS the moment professor said “give yourself a lunch break~” call me the soy milk killer just saw a giant, did you see it too? 🙄 human Dia is back, preparing to go home thank god I’m not a plant cuz I would’ve died already due to lack of Photosynthesis 🌱 practicing today’s presentation as soon as my eyes opened had a normal range of 12.4U/mL memorizing numbers always intimidate me cuz of the units wasn’t able to film anything today cuz my day was just so chaotic kimbap for dinner w/ friend dinner time for shredder too decided to study next to my friend who is preparing for a presentation “let’s talk about everything you studied at my room tomorrow~” is what professor said to me in the sweetest voice, but I’m freaking out and studying lol hopefully we can have a real conversation and not a “question & no answer” session <studying: the liver> I think I’ll be able to have at least a mini-discussion haha Home! just observed a big liver operation I got purple manicure cuz the operation room was literally freezing today organizing my patient notes and checking if there any emergency surgeries have been made (ex: appendicitis, peritonitis) happy to see the bright sky ☀️ we have a lecture on breast examination in the afternoon Dismissed! preparing dinner while thinking of what to eat after rinsing the rice thoroughly I fell asleep right away after setting the rice cooker 🤦🏻‍♀️ the one that comes first, but leaves last still can’t believe I’ve become a (super) morning person I wish today will be over soon cuz I have two presentations to make today ^^ not the same scene - it’s the next week! not the same scene, but it’s the same old Dia preparing presentations make me nervous all the time :( this week, I’ll be observing the upper gastrointestinal tract surgeries studying gastrectomy for stomach cancer cuz I’m attending the surgery soon marks from my surgery gown special thanks to my tomato feet that have made it through another day <i>takes 10 mins just to find the right page cuz she doesn’t wanna study</i> I have outpatient clinic observations tmrw and professor said he’ll ask me tons of questions, so I’m studying I was so tired that I didn’t even realize that I drank an entire cup of coffee last min. memorizing before going to meet professor dinner with my groupmates before OSCE practice (we have an exam tomorrow on suture & local anesthesia) are you filiming for YouTube? Yes :) (Shy Dia) there are 5 people in our group including me! the five of us had fun practicing :) aaaand I came to practice again the next morning General Surgery PK anyone volunteer(sacrifice) to be sutured by Dia~? the sky is so much brighter now, and so is my mind ☺️ today, our maknae professor bought me misutgaru (Korean grain drink) this week is going to be a chaos cuz I have an important case presentation and several exams Ta-da! we have a Laparascope & Suture workshop today, and they gave each of us a lunch box 🥰 arrived at the workshop! (excited) (took the suture exam during the workshop) <i>miss</i> how dare you provoke me turns out this was a patience test after all Yess! Dia unni got the feels now I’m gna ace this all prof.👨🏻‍🏫: it’s harder than it looks right? Yes 👨🏻‍🏫: you’re holding it too closely to the needle,,, okay so these are my hands but they’re not actually mine? is how I feel so you’re asking why I suck at this so badly?! Dia’s point of view #1 Dia’s POV #2 huge respect for Laparascopic technology itself, and to our professors 🙏🏻 and most importantly, I loved the food lol last week, bittersweet I personally enjoyed this week the most! (Breast & Thyroid part) “Breast & Thyroid cancer center I’m going Hmm… this robot is cute but can be a tiny bit picky don’t feel “elevatorish” anymore my last surgery observation! (mastectomy) following my phone case 🙋🏻‍♀️ Dismissed Flower Dia can finally go home under the bright sky cuz the days are getting longer 🌸 just kidding, I can’t go home yet So sleepy :9 after long hours in the operation room with a cap on, my hair gets super dry and I thus become a lion like this 🦁 had pho with my group mate and we now have to film a CPX video CPX에 대해서는 전 영상 참고! pls refer to my previous vlog for info. on CPX!) “ what brings you to the hospital today?” Time to show off my acting skills again we need to finish all procedures including Physical Examination within 12 mins <digital rectal exam> we have to film 2 videos “breast mass” and “bloody stool” <breast examination> trying my best to do it exactly the way we learned it during lecture you have a small lump at the 3 o’clock location Hemorrhoid is the most likely diagnosis. because it was my first clinical rotation, everything was hard, but everything was also fun my first rotation, first operation, first professor, first patient presentation these moments will always be remembered, but I’m grateful to be able to record these moments and share them with you thank you, always ☺️ see you in my next video (Pulmonology)~!
