you off we go I am flying to a destination in northern Dakota my first stop is Minneapolis Minnesota followed by a quick hello in Grand Forks North Dakota and then another 45 minutes on the road to get to the secluded petrified colony of Forest River hello hello I am Valerie our Sonia your healthy living and weightless coach if you've been following me for a few years you know I have a passion for the Anabaptist faith and one day I discovered a new word Hetty right there are another piece as well but they have a very specific way of living their faith they live in a communal way so here I am in North Dakota I'm on a Forest River Colony and it's very quiet why because we are a few miles from the closest roads we are about 45 miles from Grand Forks one thing they have which is very important here is the religious values the community stealing so I'm going to share this with you please make sure you watch the entire little movie I did for you talk to you soon the Hutterites are part of the Anabaptist christian movement which was born in the Austrian state of turul in the 16th century as believers in adult baptism they were persecuted for more than 200 years which eventually led them to emigrate to America in the early 19th century their unique community based lifestyle found its perfect home in the great plains of America and Canada today there are more than 50,000 members living across 500 colonies this is my friend Carol's house [Music] [Music] it's 5:30 in the afternoon the colony is very quiet because all the members are a church for the 30 minute daily sermon for those who are unable to attend the church service every house features an intercom system so that they can listen to the sermon from the comfort of the home [Music] [Music] as far as real estate goes at the Forest River Colony there's nothing extravagant or over-the-top the houses are all identically structured and are not privately owned by colony members but rather signed to families based on size this is the school all happy right children attend an ant colony school built and paid for by the community the younger kids are in the area to the right near the swing as they get older they move to the main building in the middle on the left is a large gym cooling generally continues through high school these little cards manufactured on-site are used to transport laundry to and from central Landry room in the laundry room our featured industrial sized washing machines and dryers they've got to be big enough to service a hundred and forty people a schedule showing each family's laundry day which is about twice a week is listed in the laundry room I interviewed my friend Carol to learn more about how to write lifestyle so hi what's your name my name is Carol Mendel and so where are we now we are in Death Valley like Rama Trail over looking for server colony where I live so have you always lived here no I was born in Montana and when her the right woman its marriage to the man's colony so when I married I moved here what would you think the most I mean the biggest misconception about how to write women would be um I would say the biggest misconception is that we we are pressed like we have no say we don't you look so oppressed right now it's terrible that's one thing like they think we're the women in Hutterite color we don't have any rights and you know our way of life is traditional we believe a woman should have home making be a homemaker you don't have to be a wife you don't have to get married so in one word are you a happy woman and with a big smile [Music] okay guys you don't see me where I'm actually with Brian and he convinced me to take a peek at this guy non-working ass so we're taking the pickup down to the hockey ring so tonight is Sunday night and the Hutterites guys are actually playing hockey tonight [Music] she looks like a little teddy bear like this okay so we are on our way to visit friends I love that word in English to visit or sit with friends we just spend some time exchanging news about the colony and drinking tea I drink a lot of tea these guys like their coffee but nante the Hutterites make everything on their own from dresses down to underwear watch out Victoria's Secret [Music] when it comes to cosmetics no say for our products but lots of hermit crab and even a special Vicks VapoRub type pointman for bronchitis is made here in the kitchen oh and my favorite discovery their typical soup that we - what a coincidence here in the colony we live in almost total isolation the culture is marked by a lifestyle and farming industry designed to cover at least 75% of the colonies leave Forest River is a rich colony with an impressive pig farming business consider that the colony boasts more than 800 female pigs each giving birth to about 40 piglets a year Forest River is also one of the largest producers of eggs in the region with more than 35 thousand hands and contracts with all the majors - for market in North Dakota and neighboring things for the meat contender is something own community life means that all meals are prepared and eaten together a team of women on weekly rotation manages the cooking and service of meals three times a day the food here is very rich by Gary with cheese and cream sauce cheese and geladas lots of meats and rarely fish although meals are almost always eaten together each house has a small barbecue for occasions when they host their own guests Brian makes the best barbecue race [Music] no TV for the highrise prefer to spend the evening friends playing guitar thinking religious songs and sharing with time that's it hit my last morning here on the satellite Forest River Colony and I really enjoyed my last days I was amazing I learned so many things I was welcomed with open arms people answered all my questions they open their church to me the house their heart thank you very much to all of you and thank you specially to Karen Brian for opening the house to me letting me leave with them for a few days I am hoping it can be back one day and share more time with my Hutterite friends and maybe take part in the harvest time season [Music] you
