Have you heard of or been to LaoMei Green Reef? Do you know the matcha mochi laying on the beach were formed by volcano eruption? After a year, we re-visited this place again, and felt completely disappointed. What happened here? Follow us to the hidden 3 spots in the north east shore today! Let's go! Good day all! We are at LaoMei Green Reef, that's right! It's also a seasonal attraction to come. Oh why is that? The algae only appear during certain seasons. Can't believe it's so crowded on a weekday. It's so crazy. Let's have a look. This surely surprises me, it's more crowded than I imagined. Last time, I came here with my sister, we parked our car at the parking place, we came right in completely empty. Pay attention to the tide schedule of green reef, The algal bloom period is from every mid-March to May. Around Tomb Sweeping Festival period is the most pretty time to visit. Not only you have to come in the right time, make sure to confirm the tide condition on meteorological administration website of the day. The tide sometimes raise too high to cover the reef. Then you'd see nothing when you arrive. Do not step on the rocks around the algae. This is to protect the rocks and also to yourself. Why is that? Those areas are extremely slippery. The pink cherry season ended, now is the algae season of the matcha mochi. With the approaching summer heat, it pushes our hearts closer to the sea. Therefore, we're bringing you here today. I see a lot of people standing there. That's not good! Where else can you visit LaoMei besides here? Not only in LaoMei Green Reef. I think the formation of these rocks are very special. It's cool to check out the shapes. along the sandy or rocky beaches, Seaweed isn't rare to see. At LaoMei Green Reef, you see two types of sand beach and striped rocky shore at the same time. The only one scene in Taiwan, LaoMei. You can only see it in here. Do you know how these matcha mochi were formed? This answer is that the stone trough reefs were the remaining after volcano eruption. They were left along the sea shore, through time, created the special scenery you see today. Under the long erosion of the waves of the sea. The softer parts got eroded away. The harder parts remained, formed this gutter look shapes. They were shaped beautifully. From the bird view on top of the sea shore, the neat line last nearly 2 km long. Due to the long time of erosion, the heights of these rocks are all about 50 cm height. Isn't natural formation amazing? By the way, we see a lot of garbage around. Please bring along the trash with you away. Look at that dog! It's got a funny face. He's like saying "I'm super hot, bring me home!". You should avoid stepping on the rocks around here. The algae can really die... Look at me, I'm walking along it. Just need to remove your shoes. The green reefs are very wet and slippery. It's forbidden to step on for your safety. Not only to avoid from falling, please help maintain the algae's health as well. In recent years, due to the warm winter effect and human trample, they facing the battle of life, causing the seaweed to become bleached and fallen. Please protect the nature with us. In order for more people to view these amazing attractions. To help these precious green reef to live forever. Actions like trampling will be fined. Wao, it's very beautiful when you look closely. The top is dried out, the white parts, I wonder if it's dead... Or is it salt? The volcano reefs lasted long time against the splashes. It formed a perfect living environment for seaweed to attach. From every mid-March to May, the warm climate provided a perfect home for seaweed to grow. One of the common seaweed, sea lettuce, it grows under hot heat during summer time. To move on to the next phase of life. it transformed to a thin layer of calcareous. after the seaweed fried out and died. The living cycle repeats itself yearly magically. Beautiful algae reefs are formed year by year. To be honest, I feel this place has been destroyed. Too many people trample on them. This never stops. I was watching if foreigners pay attention to the regulation. You went around the long way away, came back to take the cell phone from his girlfriend. Even the foreigners respect our lands, please be the good example for others. Before we leave, Shawn and I feel very disappointed from seeing this. There's a huge sign at the entrance, to raise people's awareness to protect natural asset. But we still see many people breaking the rules to trample on rocks just for their own photos. Some even scooch on them to get closer to the sea. Then look at the piles of trash on the beach. The amount even out number the tourists. It's not difficult to just do your part. Bring your belongings away. Don't leave behind what doesn't belong here. This can easily lower the cost of maintaining here. What treat such a beautiful place in this ugly way? We hope people can protect our only home, earth with our raised knowledge and awareness. I got angry earlier, I said "Please don't trample!" Then the person lowered his head and walked away. I was too emotional. That's because I couldn't stand anymore. Perhaps it can be done like in Elephant Trunk Rock, to arrange a guard to watch for people's behavior. This will help protect the environment. To prolong the scenery's life. Isn't it? After visiting the site, you can clean your feet nearby. Right there. Oh yeah! Feel free to wash your feet here. It's right by the parking space. To park on weekdays... 50 NT for cars on weekdays.. 80 NT on the weekends. Motorcycles are free to park here. That's nice for motorcycle drivers. Here's the parking area. Check out the wash-up area. Oh that's nice. Isn't that the shower room? So it's quite convenient frankly. It's very comfortable to clean yourself here. Let me see how Zoe washes her feet. I don't do it this way. I normally don't wash them. That's why they stink. Why? Do you know? That's because I don't wash just my feet. I do it when i shower. Why would I just wash my feet on daily basis? That's it for the Green Reef. Let us take you to another attraction nearby. It's a maze. Have you been there before? I have. Do you think it's a difficult maze? Or is it very easy? It's very very easy. It's in a zone, but first you have to walk for a while. Here's another parking area. Right by the Fugui Cape Lighthouse. You can reach the maze by walking from the green reef beach. You can choose anyway that suits you. LaoMei maze is a mysterious spot because Fugui park is very large. It's not easy to find the sign to appraoch. The location is a bit remote. See the Fugui Cape Park sign, then keep going. You can also follow the google map navigation, that is easy as well. We came from the nearby parking space and followed the path. Wao, what a cool group of roots! It's very jungle style! Really! Look at that one. They are very low near the ground, let me help Shawn to pass this area. That's fine, I'm used to this cruel world anyway. What the hell? I have to do the same! Here you need to run in Ninja style. Here's another parking lot. It's alright, you just have to turn left later. I think so. The easier way is to let our drone fly high then we'd know. Or you could follow that park sign where there's an indication to the public toilet. Follow the wooden walkway for about 5 minutes. Here we are, Shawn. Are we here? Let's see the maze. The fences are quite tall. It's low to me! It's easy for me. Now we have to do a challenge. To see how long it takes to escape from the maze. That's right, in this maze. Wao, here's a dead end. Right from the beginning? How can it be? Can't we get around it? That's it! Hell no, you can't break the rule. It's not difficult, but it has many dead ends. Really? Yes. There're more than one entries? Yes. That's why I told you this is even hard to get lost. Because it's tall. See? You said it's not tall for you. Ok, I should say "it's not VERY tall. Inside the Fugui Cape park zone, there are quite a few attractions. Like Fu'Ji Harbor, Fugui Cape Lighthouse, LaoMei maze, etc, all here! This mall is designed in a very fun way. Therefore, a lot of tourists came for it. Adults and kids can all enjoy very much in here. There are stairs around to view the maze. You can see clearly this mysterious and colorful maze. This vintage brick formation looks like a an historical old ruin. This place is ideal for photos and fun, has become one of the popular site in the north shore. Please remember to help protect the environment, don't litter. Do not walk on top of the walls in the maze. Safety first, don't disturb other visitors enjoying and admiring the view of this maze. Here is the center point. How do you know it is? I remember. Oh I think so. Are you sure? Think so... Yes we are at the center point. Look at how happy he is. This maze is quite cute, Yap, I think so too. A semicircular. We are going to the northernmost lighthouse now. Yes that'll be the 3 attractions of LaoMei. Triple attractions! Note another thing here. Here around the maze, it's free to park here. Fugui Cape Lighthouse seats on the northernmost tip of Taiwan. It's also one of the four poles in Taiwan. Now we are on the way to the lighthouse. Just a while ago near the entrance, someone called us to ask for parking fee. I found that odd. Yes, they said it's a private parking slot. So we drove very far away then walked here. I'm not so sure if it's private, but that's what happened to us earlier. This is already the northernmost lighthouse in Taiwan. Some people arrange two towers daily trip. From here? Yes, and then go to Eluanbi Lighthouse later. What a trip. To finish that within 24 hrs isn't easy. Do you think you'd want to challenge that? Maybe one day when I have free time? I think that's too much. It's a lot of walking, you'd need full training for that trip. Have you been to this lighthouse before? No. Eno and I got close last time, but we didn't walk in, it was too late. I think Eno got lazy? Maybe a bit? We've been to the northmost and southmost in this Taiwan round trip so far. We've been crazy, to get the good shots, we walked so much. Let's see what it says, free of charge? wao!. Really? and why is that? It's so generous of them. I see public toilets too. Zoe dashing to washroom. Ok here you go. During the summer time, it's opened from 9AM- 6PM. During the winter time, it's opened from 9 AM to 5 PM. In order to protect this monument, the inner part of the lighthouse isn't allowed to enter. It was very lucky of Shawn to have visited the inside in the past. Here we go. Zoe is going to dash to the washroom in no time. Let's go! No wonder it's so crowded. Fugui Cape Lighthouse is the first lighthouse built by the Japanese in the past. It was built to equip submarine cables and airway equipment. I suddenly got a very good impression of the lighthouse. Maybe it's because we've been to Eluanbi Lighthouse. And we liked so much about it. There was a path you can walk to the beach, places to picnic, and convenient washrooms around the lighthouse. The cute octagon shape of Fugui Cape Lighthouse was built with iron first in 1896. During world war 2, it was destroyed severely. It got repaired again with concrete in 1962. It kept its octagon shape ever since. After visiting here, I found out the black & white color is very well saturated. White brings out a sense of pure, with the background of blue sky, white clouds and sea. It's so beautiful for photos. You can enter here! Really? It only says "Watch your head". Let's get down. I'm also curious what's down there. Shawn likes to visit caves and stuff. It's so scary! Oh there's a window! It's probably a bunker before. It's so tiny down here. There's a rock. It's probably an observation point in the past. Wao it's so low. How lovely! This reminds me of the place in Vietnam, watch out! It's like that thing in Vietnam, Hai Van Pass? It's very well designed here. You see there's a hole on the top, so the air circulation is good. How brilliant. There's another window to look out. Why do you think it's all pointing there? This is perhaps to avoid enemy land from the shore. Probably here used to have guards protecting the shore. Aren't you curious why this lighthouse's painted black & white? Unlike all other pure white lighthouses? The main purpose is to allow ships to easily identify the position of the lighthouses. The climate around Fugui Cape Lighthouse, brings a lot of dense fogs in Fall and Winter seasons. Therefore, the tower is equipped with fog siren facility. This can warn the ships around to be careful of bumping. The siren sound can pass far to the open sea any time of the day on foggy days. Raising the safety level of the marine, Fugui Cape Lighthouse has protected the ships on the sea for more than a hundred years. Is this sort of a clock? I forgot the right word of it. The location might change daily? Due to the location of the sun. That's right! We don't know how it works. We are waiting for experts to answer that. You can't go up the tower. However, I think it's quite nice of them to let people walk around it. When we were at Eluanbi Lighthouse, It charged us entry fee, and we couldn't get to this close to the lighthouse. We could only go around it far away. The photos we took look like we were at a jail site. That was a bit pity. There was a construction going on. The original name of it was Fugi Cape Lighthouse What was it changed? Because during the Qing dynasty A Dutch missionary, Valentine, called Fugui with the meaning of cape (Hoek) in one of his books. the transliteration is somehow close to Fugui. Later it became the name of the lighthouse. This is another pity to see, the amount of trash here. Don't you think? I've seen a lot of trash along the north east shore. Over here around Fugui Cape, you can see special shapes of rocks like these. Actually they're part of the Datun Volcano Group. In the past, eruption and collapse left these andesite rocks on the beach. Through the northeast monsoon, the surface of the rocks abraded by fine sand for a long time formed the smooth stone surface. Also because of the change of wind direction, the stone corners formed sharp edges. It's also called "Wind Prism Rocks". These are the three attractions we're showing you today. I have a question for you. Which is your favorite one? Let's count to 3. You like the first one? First one for me, it's destroyed by visitors, but it doesn't changes the beauty of the natural landscape itself. Yap, if you only see the natural landscape itself, that's a very magical place. I'd pick the lighthouse because I can get good photos here. The surrounding facilities are very visitor friendly. It's comfy, easy to park, and simply nice to stay around. That'd be my second place as well. LaoMei Green Reef isn't naturally preserved, so I don't quite like it. It's my last pick of all. I'm quite sad about that. Shawn and I like natural spots very very much. We also like natural formed objects. For examples, like the shape of the rocks. Our last nagging again, we hope everyone can take part in preserving and prolonging our environment. New generations keep will also wish to see beautiful landscapes. Don't make it become pictures that we only see from the textbooks. Thank you all. If you have any recommendations about hidden spots to expore nearby this area, feel free to share with us.
