Eliza Coupe on harassment: We didn’t realize we could speak up

let's get into a discussion of what you think is going on Hollywood right now what do you make of all these assaults yeah I think that it's uh I think it's great it's exposing things on a level that need to be exposed and I think that it's kind of about time that this all happened have you been arrest I mean I've been harassed I'm a woman I don't think there's any woman who hasn't been harassed not I mean in this business I've really since this has all come up I haven't had to the degree of what these women who come out I don't have had anything close to that so there will be nothing reportable no there's nothing reportable not in this career but as a woman for sure I've had my own experiences are you shocked no I mean this is something that everyone's known and I think the most wonderful thing that's happening is that every woman I mean I don't think anyone knew they could say anything and I'm not even just talking about in this business I'm talking as a woman in general you don't realize that you can say something that it's it's it shouldn't just be accepted behavior that this is just oh that just happens that's how it's gonna be and I mean I've done I mean it's so many times it's like you walk out of the house you're wearing something great I'm gonna get a comment on it when I'm just wearing something because I feel great in it but it doesn't matter that's just one example it's like you just as women we're supposed to accept that what do you make of the response though banding together and getting fired mm-hmm almost immediately I think that when there's any sort of big movement or change that it's gonna swing very far in one direction and that's good because I don't think that things will change if it doesn't if we don't go to the drastic measures or drastic measures if people want to call it that it's kind of just the right thing to do you think it's a tough time the decent guys maybe don't even know what to say now for sure and I I think that we need to remember that there are great guys out there and I think we need to remember that this isn't everyone and hopefully we can have this as an example of like this is who you don't want to be what you don't want to do and look let's take a simple thing let's say you're auditioning for a big movie mm-hmm and the director says I like the way you worked let's have dinner is that wrong right now well maybe right now it's a little tough dinner he could couldn't I don't think he could ask you that no probably not it would depend on what the intention was there and how would we know until you had dinner I mean for me I can just tell by looking to someone and how they say it exactly what the intention is watch new episodes of Larry King now Monday Wednesday and Friday on demand on aura TV and Hulu
