[Music] for best music coach my name is dan and you are watching a music teacher's reaction live and in real time to the elden ring original soundtrack the boss themes now i've never heard this music before not once ever i'm going to be reacting in real time giving my thoughts breaking down some music theory things along the way we're going to have a ton of fun we're going to start this thing off with no further ado with falling star beast let's do this welcome chat we are live rocking and rolling fallen star beast [Music] [Music] huh that's some whole tone stuff in there i think [Music] [Music] [Music] oh yeah we are in whole tony land here [Music] man okay at the end there [Music] i did not get a solid read on exactly what was happening but that for sure was uh at the minimum polyrhythm at the most poly meter that was super cool uh absolutely loving that okay this next one is called red wolf of ratagon [Music] man these uh [Music] these boss things are a little chaotic man so much going on [Music] so in addition to those bass drums there's like this extra low drum all the way in the middle [Music] this is wild hey shout out and thank you to it's nikki for becoming a channel member before the stream even started welcome it's nikki remember to vote in the membership tab for whatever you want me to react to next okay let's keep it going to erd tree avatar which i think is the one everyone does that dance around [Music] that was a terrible avatar joke we're gonna keep moving [Music] oh my gosh [Music] [Music] so we're in the key of d-flat or c-sharp here which is interesting because we actually heard this key before and the more atmospheric parts we did a first part of this streamer listen to the atmosphere tracks you can check that out on this channel [Music] oh listen to that [Music] [Music] also we're hearing some elements that we heard in previous tracks here like that one flat three two riff thing there [Music] [Music] that was a lot of fun that was really cool a quick shout out and thank you baster killer renegade says which of the osts directed had been your favorite so far honestly so far probably calamity mod i dug pretty much everything on there on a personal level like not like a music level because music you know like i appreciate everything listen to everything but on a personal level yeah calamity mod was wow uh shout out and thank you to pikachu pikachu says pika pika pika pika pika pikapika which translates as from software always deliver when it comes to their game ocs hope you hope to see more of this on the channel eventually persona 3 fun you got it pikachu and a shout out and thank you to the sighing dutchman that is a hilarious pun for a name there video game movie obviously have had a special place in my heart it's really cool to see someone usually train spending the time to analyze them well i'm doing my best to analyze them in real time and putting down a vote for my favorite ost of all time attack on titan you got it signed dutchman let's keep this thing rocking and rolling with oh chat maybe we should end the stream here and not go on to the next one i feel like no one really wants to hear this next song just playing this next one is called godskin apostles [Music] oh oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay i love how major chords have been used this whole thing so effectively the major chords sound creepier than major chords normally sound [Music] [Applause] [Music] i thought for sure something crazy was about to happen there [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh love that crescendo there crescendo's when something is quiet and then it gets louder [Music] [Music] so there's so much going on in all of these tracks the way it's mixed is ridiculous because you can hear everything going on there's so much going on the question is like can you make sense of everything that's going on but there's a lot going on [Music] oh it's like that brass like right here [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'll resolve it are they gonna leave it there ah there it is okay well that was absolutely nuts um i mean to even try and start to unpack that i mean there's so much going on there all of these boss themes so far there's layers upon layers upon layers of things happening musically that we started to hear in the previous tracks like with those mini bosses and things but it is just insane with all of that coming through i mean gosh i really hope everyone playing this game has really good speakers and good headphones here everything that's going on there if you're even hearing that or if your adrenaline is just pumping in your ears so that you can try and beat whatever you're fighting here i'm not sure shannon thank you to miku who says can't wait to hear the one of the boss themes i can't say that i'll give it my best when we get there i'd like to go towards shadow of the colossus you got it migu thank you so much for your support thank you so much for your super chat this next one is called black knives [Music] so it should sing is the last tune and this tune both like e flat minor [Music] interesting playing around with both two and flat two in the melody that's something we heard from the atmospheric tracks that's actually translating here now [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] something else we're hearing interestingly too here is during what i'm assuming are different phases of these boss fights that the meters changing [Music] or you have implied changes in meter for for a moment okay this next one is called marget margaret the fel omen well had market tied their shoelaces before they walked out the door maybe they would not have fallen [Music] [Music] also please excuse my nose blowing [Music] [Music] [Music] you can hear like all the way off here these violins going up and down in and out of tune oh yeah now you can hear them quite clearly oh [Music] it's not over [Music] [Music] okay which was interesting too that those really low brass hits are displaced by like a 16th note and i don't know if that's on purpose so that you can get that clear delineation between other low-end things or if that was like to just pull back a little bit guys type of a thing very interesting [Music] so [Music] [Music] this one's in d minor we also heard a lot of d minor in those first tracks of the song wow wild so again i mean oh so much going on in all of these tunes let's listen to the next one called omen illusion now sounding like f minor we also heard f minor force inching that we're hearing these keys coming back or at least these root notes of what's kind of going on in terms of the game [Music] this is sounding more key-ish though here [Music] [Music] all right maybe we're in b-flat we're hanging on the uh calling to b flat [Music] oh they don't hear that harpsichord in there it's like spling splung that's all we got [Music] [Music] sound like electric guitar in there too [Music] or maybe that's more like a liar or something anywho so something really interesting to talk about here is that it started out hammering real hard on the f and then it went into the b flat and we actually saw something like that happen i believe in terraria or in calamity mod where it would hang out on the dominant first and then the track would drop into the actual key of the tune but because you don't know the key of the tune you don't have a piece of sheet music to see ahead into the future like oh i guess this is going to be an f and turns out it's in b-flat because actually started out on the dominant but anyway let's keep this thing rocking and rolling with lord's apparition [Applause] [Music] you got that right jt paper [Music] what does the harpsichord say splen [Music] okay so after this let's talk a little bit about how the strings are making this sound creepy now they've made a lot of these songs sound creepy as well [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oregon all the way in the back that was a ton of fun huge shout out and thank you to raz man raz man who just set a channel record for super chat razman said hello dan long time viewer here rasman thank you so much for your support i've been a huge fan every stream in this amazing journey through some legendary video game osts thank you for your support razman always loves seeing you in the comments if you could please split this equally towards the following list tease braid fez super meat boy and the messenger will do 100 rasman thank you so much let's keep this thing rocking and rolling with regal and cester which honestly is the coolest looking boss it's kind of like a deer a deer was a tree like an ant deer roll with me here an ent reindeer [Music] this is so beautiful [Music] i hang on this a phrygian sort of sound right now [Music] oh really where indeed though seems like again a case of hanging out on the dominant and i call it too early [Music] so i'm not watching the boss fights but some of these playlists do have little thumbnails that i can see [Music] [Music] [Music] oh changing keys sounds like now [Music] sounds like we've now modulated up a whole step to e minor sounds like an irish irish whistle irish penny whistle [Music] [Applause] i love this like getting into it [Music] yeah agreed loris boy celtic also because of the meter it's a compound meter and a lot of that celtic music is like six eight [Music] but now feeling more like it's a simple meter which is really interesting this is also something they've been doing throughout this entire uh soundtrack which i'll talk about after this [Music] all right that was really cool all right so let's do number one shout out and thank you to arco len who says what's your favorite theme so far plus i heavily suggest listening to arc survival evolve we will add that to the list thank you r colon okay one of my favorite themes so far honestly was probably the main theme i really liked the main theme there's a lot of really cool things along the way but the main theme was super awesome now let's talk about the difference between simple and compound meter and why sometimes it confuses me when they're in the middle song well doesn't confuse me but leads me down the wrong path because i'm knocking the sheet music and i don't know what's happening in the future i only know what's happening right in that moment so when you have simple meter uh you have a beat and that beat is divided into two equal parts uh which are called beat divisions and those beat divisions are divided into four equal parts which are called beat subdivisions so for example we have beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat see i'm clapping evenly between each beat that's the subdivision that's the time between uh assuming that's the beat division that's the time between the beat now if i go beat beat beat beat beep beep what i'm doing there is i'm dividing the beat into three equal parts which is compound meter so whenever the beat is divided into two equal parts it is a simple meter whenever the beat is divided into three equal parts it is a compound meter okay this next one is called astell natural borne of the void which sounds a little contradictory because it doesn't sound like voids should be giving birth to anything but that's just me okay no it's a difference between compound and swing [Music] so [Music] is it dan devaney fascinating [Music] every time you hear a major chord in this whole soundtrack it's like it's really weird things happen around it [Music] i also said we wouldn't talk about the white the way the strings make everything creepy which i will do after this [Music] chat let me know who your favorite boss was and also what your favorites both boss theme if i can talk is if you're watching this after the stream let me know in the comments who's your favorite boss what's your favorite boss theme [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] wild okay let's talk about three things we're gonna listen to from here on out oh sorry we're not done okay so let's talk about three things we're gonna look for in the string strings mainly being violent well strings being violin viola cello and acoustic upright bass also called contrabass now three things you want to look for is number one tremolo this is when they play really really fast number two we're going to look for modulation modulation is when they very smoothly change their pitch from like that they go from low to high modulation and number three is for when we have groups of strings that are playing slightly out of tune from each other there's going to be the three things that we look for for how these strings are bringing the drama and also bringing the creepiness in this original soundtrack this next one is called ancient dragon lanzo [Music] [Music] so you can hear in the left ear tremolo playing really fast [Music] [Music] no i don't think that's lancy axe i think that's lanzo right oh no yeah ux would be french i apologize you're correct thank you brexin and dog bae and ing [Music] ah name's an axe see i was thinking aux i didn't see the u i apologize [Music] [Music] [Music] oh fourth one is going to be a trim [Music] you hear that that's that's two of our four that was modulation and tremolo okay and the last one we're gonna add in to look out for the strings is a trill a trill is when they alternate very quickly between two notes like that okay this next one is called lich dragon like dragon fortis axe [Music] [Music] yeah zenju lead cello [Music] [Music] [Music] oh it is so not over yet we got like another three minutes [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] well that was a ton of fun all right so let's see if this is gonna work i tried getting the uh title up there [Music] [Music] ah it's not gonna work [Music] [Music] [Music] oh that was beautiful this next one is called morgot the omen king [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] well that was a ton of fun hey before we listen to the next one oh it's so not over [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] we're gonna keep it going almost got this thing set up over here for you guys we can see what the next song is next one is called bloody fingers oh yeah [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that was bloody fingers a shout out and a thank you before we listen to the next one two lonely toasters says could be possible to do these kind of streams from firmsoft games in the future well lonely star lonely toaster sure thing please uh comment lonely toaster with what you want to see next from uh from soft and uh we will make sure that we get that on the list with your super chat nishata and thank you of course jt paper longtime supporter of this channel and super chatter supreme thank you jt paper jd raven says i will put this towards battle arena toshin ninden three you're not very popular well it's gonna go a long way it's kind of mediocre ps1 fighting game for some reason the composer decided to make it a banger ost all right let's keep this thing rocking and rolling thank you everyone so far for your super chats for your support hey please kit like subscribe notification bell join the channel become a member and make sure you hang out to the very end here my final reaction and summary this one is called mog moog lord of blood that's an ominous name i'd much prefer to be like lord of taquerias and have really nice food to eat but i mean [Music] [Music] so [Music] oh little splong splunk of a harpsichord there [Music] [Music] [Music] so this is the instrument before that i mistook for an electric guitar that's most definitely not an electric guitar this is not over though i think we're going to a phase two oh yeah just when you think it's over [Music] so those strings tremolo very fast [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] right there we had modulation and tremolo [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so cool again with all of these themes so much going on it we could do an entire stream on each song just breaking it down this next one is called godric the grafted so now we can hear strings going in and out of tune with each other's is one of our things we said we're gonna look for [Music] now going in and out of tune also modulating sliding up and down and tremolo and hear those strings over here in your left ear i mean also you're right here but the ones that are doing the crazy stuff right here left here [Music] [Music] so right there we had three all the same time we had modulation tremolo and playing out of tune with each other [Music] [Music] oh creepy strings come on creepy strings [Music] just when you think it's over [Music] oh my gosh there's so much weirdness going on so we started this off in three four or through something i should say [Music] now we're in like seven [Music] well it's really it's like a grouping of four in a grouping of three pulses really is what it is [Music] three one [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay so super cool and as we're seeing we're hearing our four things that make strings creepy come up over and over again we're hearing the tremolo when they play really fast we're hearing the modulation when they go from [Music] to high we are hearing when they play out of tune with each other and for the trill which you're not hearing quite so often but we're hearing those other three in spades let's keep this thing going with millennia blade of michaela [Music] michaela [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oops sorry guys i gotta learn not to scroll [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah triplets [Music] so [Music] awesome huge shout out and thank you to dysteek who says hey i'm a fan of yours i'd love to do ark survival evolved oc well distinct we're going to add your super chat to the list and we're gonna upload it on the list and we're gonna get on rocking and rolling thank you for super chat thank you for your support with the next one which is song of horror and a shout out and thank you to legendary silver all right all right hang on i'm going to pause this and i'm going to break something down it's actually really cool that what what's happening okay there's a chant that is done by the fans of the atlanta braves that goes oh almost got that last one anyway that was the start of it which was crazy shout out today to legendary silver who says uh absolutely check out the soundtrack from okami i 100 put your super chat on there and upvote okami let's keep this thing going it's like one voice oh well i skipped a note oh but anyway experiencing that there's like one voice that's an octave up and yeah you're right oh okay and it's actually really close i'm going to pause again it's actually really close to halo 2. which is halo and it's actually it's it's flirting with that as well okay anyway keeping it going [Music] okay well that was super cool so yeah while it was sort of like you know gregorian chant ish and like not super you know yeah we could oh just does doing that make it sound like halo no but yeah it kind of does shout out and a thank you to kaine who says hope you'll check out monster underworld iceborn ost we will add it to the list we will add your super chat to the list as well to upvote the monster hunter and weirdness unfolds says might be completely unrelated no clc for project wingman nonetheless defensiveness by ace combat they're all bops well hey uh weirdness unfolds do you want to put that uh do you want to put that that there chat towards uh towards project wingman uh if you say nothing i shall consider it so okay this next one is called star scourge radhan which is called somewhere star scourge when there aren't starships so they wouldn't technically be able to conceive as well i don't really know if there's not starships so i'm assuming there's not starships but then how do you conceive of stars i assume they have telescopes i'm gonna be quiet now and just enjoy the music [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] modulation andy tuned [Music] oh my gosh so much going on [Music] [Music] [Music] me [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] and these minor seconds of hearing in the melody something we heard time and time again in the more atmospheric tracks of this soundtrack [Music] so it's not over [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that's a wild little growl on that uh brass instrument there [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] huh very interesting ending to that this next tune is called recusants oh this is heavy oh this is heavy look out there we go strings modulating and playing attitude with each other so here now you also hear these pizzicato sounds made by plucking the violin viola cello strings maybe oh yeah riff it oh yeah hear those things slightly out of tune with each other hear that really growly brass right here super low and then those violins are modulating up huge shout out in the thank you to weirdness unfolds it says both super chats eight ace combat seven you got it weirdness this is called god devouring serpent i'm not quite sure how that works but sounds to be rather dramatic [Music] alright now these strings [Music] right here [Music] and on top of there another set of strings doing one of those build where they modulate up really high [Music] [Music] [Music] again we're hearing this whole tone type of harmony here or at least hold on line and it is so not over yet [Music] [Music] [Applause] okay so number one the voices combined with the brass because you have that grasp doing the same rhythm as the voices oh there we go modulating modulating the strings with tremolo and they're playing attitude with each other more more more oh it's all here [Music] know [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] man i tell you what i would love to see the scores for these compositions because i'd love to see how the how these different pieces that are all working against each other are notated excuse me while i blow my nose during this stream let's keep this rocking and rolling with ranala queen of the full moon [Music] so something a little creepy happening in the [Music] in the dissonance [Music] [Music] very interesting having the difference between those male voices before and now these female sort of alto ish type voices they really do give you two very different feelings well the obvious are singing different things like the tonality of these uh female voices we just heard sort of like that balcony type thing that we actually heard in near as well that sort of vibe [Music] it's not over [Music] so even though this might be a boss fight i'm not sure it's very different from a lot of the other boss themes in the same way that that and reindeer was also different from the other boss themes [Music] yeah it's very different vibe from a lot of the other boss fights [Music] it's almost getting closer to some of those ambient tracks we heard earlier in the soundtrack at least in parts [Music] [Music] interesting ninth chord that ended on their minor nine this next one is a fire giant [Music] the show must go on [Music] excuse me and thank you [Music] [Applause] [Music] so then here even though this i'm assuming is a boss fight very different from a lot of those sort of cacophony very dissonant boss fights oh let's uh get rid of that bot shall we [Music] it's not over yet [Music] [Music] i also feel like the volume on this one's a little quieter too those little flute runs are great though [Music] [Applause] oh yeah look at that a little more now the violins going [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] this next one has a very interesting name it's called beast clergyman [Music] would we just sort of like hung out in flatland for a second but where we're gonna end up i'm not quite sure those are some bass voices right there [Music] [Music] so [Music] very interesting here these are textures we've not heard where there's not a lot going on instrumentally a lot going on vocally this coral movement here called gestures i should say [Music] well that low there that's either a bass voice or they're doing octopus stuff would actually use vocal fry to get super low there [Music] yeah b flat now we're on to phase two [Music] ah that there was a trill also out of tune we had two of our four things that make strings creepy right there [Music] now seems like we're in d minor here which is a we've heard throughout this soundtrack trail out of tune trail [Music] seen that little line that's getting passed between your ears between the different string instruments [Music] oh what's in that voice i have to sliding up [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] that was really cool how all the basements and again i guess by the end [Music] yeah ending again on the on the ninth again on minor nine so we're we've seen that ending chord of having that ninth in there over several boss themes which is interesting this next one is called dragon lord placidus placidus sax that's a weird name [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] string tremolo we heard also their attitude with each other [Applause] [Music] so much going i can't quite hear it [Music] it is so not over yet [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh very very interesting [Music] brass notes there strings attitude with each other that might have just been a minor second it was like okay are they attitude with each other is this a minor second or like how many cents c-e-n-t-s sense is it off from that minor second that we're saying it's no longer in tune but then technically speaking if two instruments are playing two different notes and they are not in unison then are they they four therefore then are they therefore out of tune one is a door not a door when it's a jar okay the next one is called godfrey godfrey first elden lord they're quiet [Music] you [Music] [Music] okay [Music] [Applause] so something i want to point out that's sort of interesting compositionally i've talked about this on some other osts oh trills trails detuning [Applause] love it okay is that when you have a slower melody on top and then just like the base or the lower instruments are just cooking cooking with gas underneath [Music] yeah slow those notes are on top how so they are to change and everything underneath is [Music] [Music] that was phase one this next one coming up is phase two i for the solve oh this is so different oh my gosh i hold them there's [Music] get like minor thirds versus major thirds [Music] oh my gosh there's so much going on [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah this is super chaotic oh my gosh [Music] that was what that was i mean i have no words for the beginning of that second phase when i'm assuming the second phase of that fight just what in terms of like so many different things going on so many different notes and harmonies and dissonant i mean dissonance there's no way i'm saying well traditional distance no no no dissonance coming at you my personal opinion but there you go this next one is called the final battle [Music] [Music] yeah chat you got that right [Applause] [Music] right [Music] [Music] [Music] so even they're mixing what you could think of is the minor and the major third in that riff [Music] sick phase two i suppose [Music] guitar or maybe harp maybe a liar [Music] why do i feel like this is about to go somewhere really crazy in a minute [Music] this is like the absolute end of the story that's a harp the pling plong thank you please more sand yeah i feel like this is about to go absolute bananas [Music] smith [Music] so we're basically an a minor here and we have heard a minor previously in this soundtrack [Music] [Music] d minor back to a minor [Music] a movement to five there to the dominant back to one [Music] [Music] make sure you hit like subscribe hit that notification bell oh beautiful chord there you also join this channel become a member basically when you're a member you got to decide what i vote on next and you get access to all kinds of mmas and the member only area and things like that okay let's keep it rock and rolling this is the ending [Music] so starting off at least in e flat minor [Music] oh i scrolled sorry guys there we go [Music] shout out and a thank you to a golgi love the streams curb a game soundtrack we'll put it down there we will add that to the list and add your super chat upload it thank you goldie for your support and your super chat [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] so we actually heard what's happening here in a previous boston so probably just going to hear a bunch of uh different boss themes and other things here but this is the same thing that we've heard of that before [Music] well not so much now [Music] ah [Music] [Applause] so some people in the chat who actually remember the names for all these themes are calling them out this one is margot's theme [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Music] oh slow build slow build in the strings listen for it in your left ear slow build [Applause] [Music] [Music] beautiful cord here cords i should say [Music] very interesting panning effect there we could hear that viola or violin go all the way across [Music] let me know in the chat what your favorite theme so far was that we heard today [Music] [Music] my [Music] oh very interesting i don't don't recall where we heard that it sounded like a piano playing that theme right there previously so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] beautiful harp here [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh wow final chord to resolve this incredible incredible original sound check now before we get to my final reaction summary shout out thank you infernal resident it's the first time tuning into your streams have watched a few of your reactions love to give my vote for shadow of colossus infernal resonance you got it make sure you check the list an hour or two after the stream when i get a chance to update it cool everyone thanks so much for watching all right so final reaction summary these themes were insane not only the amount of work to first compose but then record then mix then master all of the literal insanity that was going on in some of these tracks is absolutely incredible just the amount of man hours going into that i'm i'm talking about the amount of man hours of a little quarter low hanging fruit we're going to move into a new vertical anyway besides the business speak like really though like the amount the amount of work that went into this ost is insane really some things that i've never ever heard before you know i i've definitely we could point to different things that sound close to other things you know like oh he sounded like kind of like halo the thing over here sounded like another thing but very original sounds very interesting to see and hear how from the more atmospheric tunes to these ones how we still kept a couple of the same keys we kept a couple of the same gestures and a couple of the same intervals as well shout out and a thank you to chloe betten newly of the best supporters ever remembered here says this ont enhances my game immersion when first i play when i play excuse me apparently i can't read like for the promo uh a maid in the abyss ost we're gonna add that chloe thank you so much for your support thank you also for being a member anyone
