he beat uh a fellow by the knee and hoped that when i come back it's my shot five ball in the court will be the one denying on the break he made three balls on the break had spinning the cue ball two positions down to uh where the foot is past the foot partner once again finally coming to rest oh look at this what a nice shot it's not the queue is it no that's only this rubber this is the u.s open nine boat championship a very dominating match full of action an amazing display of incredible shooting skills between the sniper from japan and a former wpa champion [Music] and he is up against the player in his prime the man who is almost impossible to beat a winner of numerous international titles the player who won the us open three times there it is the jinx is over after as his first major title it's the us open in 1994. he is no other than a friend reyes [Music] in the booth with my old friend bill in cardona both players lagged for the opening break this is a winner's break format so the lag is very important everyone won the lag and will be breaking the first track off the we beat game fellow by the name let me see if i can leave brooks 11-1 he'd be tommy kennedy a former u.s open champion he beat a real strong jamie good afrin makes the one ball in the side pocket but of course it's always improved perhaps is in his early 30s and he is really in good shape many people believe that this is his prime age just like that and to speak virginia and i love this area the high water region effen reyes takes the first track of the game we go now to rock number two our friend made another successful break i like that by having um as they lie sit perfectly right he has a perfect angle a friend makes the one ball on the break and somehow landed on a shot on the two ball [Music] well there was no reason for him to be lying in difficult positions therefore the visibility at the table this shouldn't be any problem as we see it's no problem for me once again placing from reyes as not only tremendous control of the cue ball and in terms of surpassing terms of speed controls and this is one of those shots but we have a bridge and occasionally he'll use it and that's the only time he'll use it by the way a friend easily runs out the second rack and now leads two to zero no reason to change the brake position i heard a ball drop i believe it was the one in the side as you have noticed her friend always make the one ball in the side pocket when breaking if he keeps doing this he will be very hard to [Music] in the far right hand corner pocket upper right hand he had too much of an angle to pull over in that area during this time efren reyes is ranked number eight in the pro billiards tour how we envision things happening the correct way well that's how he plays knowledge but by the way he plays he looked like the number one shooter during this time [Music] on the road it's inexpensive and he beats everybody he plays exactly and game number three goes to different range and now he leads in the match by the score three games another brilliant break and run out from the young magician [Music] not mistaken [Music] once again finally coming to rest in a perfect position on the other hand his opponent did not yet made an appearance in the pool table [Music] and i like that kind of thing well four to nothing now efren reyes finished his fourth break and run out while takahashi just sits defenseless and just waiting for his chance it looks like he's getting sleepy or just silently meditating [Music] [Music] to everyone's surprise a friend makes a golden brick he now leads five to zero this barrage may have ended but that's not what happened game number five goes to reyes he now leads in the match five games to zero and takahashi has yet to make an appearance at the table the golden break was a duggar to the heart for konohiko you know what this reminds me of at the u.s open straight pool in new york city steve miserak ran 150 and out on me and i was in the same uh comatose position this is the first time a friend did not have an opening shot on the break but didn't come up with the shot notice the roll out here the two ball way at the other end of the table but the position of the three in a very curious position here the bottom question in relation to the two if you pocket the two finally after some time takahashi made an appearance to the table oh look at this what a nice shot so the articulate takahashi comes with a very very good shot don't hit this very hard will slide up naturally so the barrage that rey has put on takahashi takahashi made a great cross corner bank on the tsu ball he now has the chance to land on the scoreboard he certainly came to the united states with it that's a beautiful shot where he was very hard that's exactly what he needed in 1998 takahashi won the wpa world ninevote championship by defeating the reigning champion johnny archer in the final match [Music] nice stop nice out [Applause] finally takahashi scored in the match that is a big fan look at this he stopped the keyboard in the middle of the table and didn't come up with the shot to make it worse the six bow brushed the cue ball back using the right side of the one ball so therefore cue ball control here is definitely imperative he must be able to control the cue ball with if he goes to the left side of the one and doesn't control the cue ball [Music] takahashi attempted a safety play but did not get lucky if andreas continues to putt the balls flawlessly just punch this in just below center ball and six to one our current cali one ball on the side now reyes is making the one ball on the side with regularity and the shot that he's most certainly playing maybe so he's not going to even try he's going to play safe real first he might be able to make this ball oh he could make it well i'm blind did that look to you like he could make it my friend reyes also won the wpe world nine world championship in the year 1999 curious position you should have known at that time that he could have made it through [Music] he's gonna opt to play the seven nine combination that's really not having to do too much with the cuboid he's played a flawless matchup her friend easily makes the combination on the nine and now leads seven to one this is really heartbreaking for takahashi as a friend dominates and easily runs out each round scratching in the side he did one of the two side side pockets falling in takahashi trails one game the seven position on the eighth side look at this oh but he's still alive [Music] taking the side pocket totally out of the pitcher i don't like what he's done there i would have played beyonce god please no no no another wasted opportunity for takahashi as he misses the object ball [Music] like that because notice the position of the cue ball now if you would have uh attempted to find yourself always in line with it for the next ball off of any cushion and the rest of the rack plays game number nine goes to reyes who now leads in the match for the score now he's going to finish this match oh you might get higher yeah he had to get out that last right that was imperative to have any chance to win i believe he'll have enough room to pocket while he's gone the other many people believe that a friend's weakness is his break but as you can see there is nothing wrong with this break i'm sorry i promise nothing doesn't have any interfering balls now a friend may have a weaker break but it's not about power it's about technique and effectivity [Music] his you know it's got to be a little discouraging for uh takahashi too he's missed one ball he just takes complete control of his match somewhat but of course he's helped look at that look at that right in the middle of the table well now he now if he can keep doing that this match is really going out of hand for takahashi as friend reyes is just two rocks away from looks like to victory you know something that uh that we really don't get to see that often and i've always said this and i'm gonna say it again well i've heard stories about players like ralph greenleaf and william moscone and like they're just legends you know but this is a real living legend we've had the opportunity to watch as you observe a friend has a very loose stroke and has a very nice touch in controlling the cue ball [Music] why i like single elimination and i'm going to tell you why all right now if rnas arrives at the hill first 10 to 1. well he pocketed a ball on the break and now the three ball passed the one ball opening up the pocket for the one the two underneath to where the two ball lies you may break it up try right here you know you're gonna break it up on the two you're going to play position on the two to nudge the nine ball down and go through the nine a little bit or here that's fine position the five fortunately for him a friend again makes a statement as he broke really well and is now going for the win this shot plays a little tougher once again he illustrates how easily he executes that particular shot to follow really decrease the size of the pocket with the speed that he hit that shot he actually allowed the pocket to play as largely as it could is over and it didn't take much time because the man at the table saw that we're going to do it [Music] has been working on his english you know for a while when we do an interview with him he'd say i play good i win but he vigorously pick it up but we'll have him up here in just a minute a friend reyes easily dominated this match 11-1 it is very amazing to watch how the filipino magician overwhelmed a former champion and almost never letting it score the americans never seen anything like this incredible shooter ever before if you are a fan of a friend in batarias i am inviting you to be a part of our studio feel free to subscribe and never miss a single episode thank you very much for watching i will see you
