Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I follow Dave and I like his technical insight but just removing any time he repeats himself would halve the runtime. Someone needs to make a Brief!Dave channel.
Re: this fix, from what he's explained it's likely to be just fine as a permanent fix. The clock signal is noisy after being pulled up but as it's only used during bootstrapping and isn't outside the chip's specification for voltage it won't hurt anything.
My DS415+ was hit with the C2000 bug in September of 2018, just outside of the extra year warranty they gave all of us because of this bug. I had never soldered anything before but thought it was worth a try. After a severely burned thumb and the terrible soldering of a 100ohm resistor, I brought my NAS back to life! Itβs still running, almost a year and a half later.
Good if you need to get data off it (can other Synology models read disks?), but I'm not sure I'd trust it with anything important.
Great video! Thanks for posting it.
Is it the same procedure to get an 1815+ running?
I'm not familiar with ave but he must have some sweet dumpster diving spots.
Was thinking of posting this here too. It's useful for those who didn't get an extension warranty or got this secondhand.
