everyone welcome back for those of you that are new we do everything to help you make better videos and today we're going to be learning how to edit professionally using only an ipad today i'm going to be using lumafusion which is a 30 app that is by far one of the best video editors on ios you can use your phone or an ipad it's very similar to premiere pro or final cut if you're used to editing on a pc or mac and when it comes time to edit videos for youtuber or whatever i'm doing i sometimes don't want to sit at the desk so the ipad has been a essential tool for me to sit back on the couch and relax but still be able to edit videos and not be just tied down to a keyboard and a mouse and a desk so today uh we're let's jump on into lumafusion i'm going to show you how to edit a quick commercial uh we're going to be editing a commercial for the new ford bronco um ford puts all of their uh promotional videos on their website for download on their press kit so i just downloaded some of those we'll be making a short little commercial for them so let's dive on in in today's edit i'm going to show you some key concepts that will help you become a better editor especially if you're using an ipad some of the key things that you need to know to quickly and edit a professional video we're going to be trimming down clips editing to the beat we're going to be doing a little bit of sound design i'll even show you how to mask out an object so that you can do a mass transition or whatever else you would need to mask in any of your projects so follow along for those of you that that think that you could never edit sitting in the comfort of your own couch um i got you covered at the end of the video i'll be showing you what it's like to hook your ipad up to a keyboard and a mouse and a monitor and to be a be able to edit like you're on your desktop computer so first thing first is once you get your project created you're going to want to put in i like to edit to my music so what i'm going to do is i'm going to open up my folder where i have my music and i'm going to find the song that i'm using and i will drag that in i know i want to start out with this intro in this song um but i don't need this whole clip so i just want right where the tires start to turn here so i'm going to grab this little arrow at the beginning of the clip just drag it to my time marker there and then i only want to go to about there so we're just going to go grab this clip and swing it over we can zoom out to make this a little bit easier okay that's good it's time we gotta find my second clip here i want everybody to know that we're editing a bronco video we'll give them that first preview give them a clue of what car we're going to advertise so i like the beginning of that so i'm going to drag this over and we're just going to give them just about a second there now you can see the tires are rotating this way and so it might look better if we reverse this clip so this little pencil icon down at the bottom when we select that we can go into this time the speed in reverse and we can reverse the clip okay so we got our first action clip we want to capture everybody's attention so we're going to drag this in there there's a part of this song where he starts to sing we want to find that part okay so there's the part where he sings we're going to zoom in here so we can see okay so we are going to cut we're going to use the scissor tool we're going to cut that there and where this intro ends we're going to cut that [Music] [Applause] so we want to cut it about right here we're gonna delete this section out and then if you pinch and drag there you go we can zoom out slide this over okay so once once you get the clips exactly how you want them i'm going to just click on that second track i want to add a transition we'll do a little cross fade to help those two clips play together a little bit better that's good enough for this uh quick tutorial okay where the singer says look my way i want to edit to the beat there so i'm going to go right where it says look and i'm going to add a marker it's a little bookmark with a plus in it up there so i'm just gonna add a marker and we'll just call this beat one and then my is right here so we're gonna put beat two beat two and then way we're gonna do a third beat okay beat three this makes it really easy to jump back and forth and sync your clips to this so what i want to do is i want to if you just hit this little chapter to the left button right next to your play button um if you click that you'll go to b2b1 so we want to go to beat one we want to make sure this clip cuts off right there at beat two okay once you have all of your beats in place we will just sync those three clips to the beat so when you hit that chapter button you can see once you're on beat one we just want to make sure that that clip lines up with beat one and we'll just drag that over just a hair if you need to zoom in a little bit to help you see that beat a little bit better that is synced up we'll go to beat two okay this clip looks right onto beat two and then we'll go to beat three so let's shorten this clip just a hair and we'll play it back and see how it looks perfect now that we have a good sequence of clips here i want to show you how to do a masking transition um i have this clip of this bronco that fills the frame and i want him to i want to mask out the bronco logo reveal and after that i will show you how to set your ipad up in like a desktop editing environment for those of you that would rather use a keyboard and mouse so let's go ahead i'll show you how to mask so what you want to do is lumafusion doesn't support masking natively but there's a really easy work around so you're going to want to in your bottom left hand corner you want to create a new project we'll just call this bronco mask once you get the clip you want to find the first frame after it fully fills the frame so what we're going to do is we're going to add a title so add a title at that point where you're going to need your mask and then go back to click on your title we want to go back to the edit and we want to delete the text so you'll click on your title box over here on the right hand side you want to delete the text okay once you delete your title you want to add a shape layer and what we're going to do is we're going to we want to mask the full shape that's going to travel across the screen uh go somewhere where you can see the entire mask that you're going to need to create so what we're going to do once you've added your shape in there we need to change that to green we are going to turn the shadow to zero the shadow opacity to zero percent and then we're going to start building our shapes so we're going to bring this up here we're going to rotate it just a hair and we're going to drag that right off the screen there okay so now we just need to add another shape so we're just going to add another shape change that to green turn that shadow off and we're going to drag that in there we're going to block that area off okay let's add another shape okay once you get all the shapes that you need to make up your mask you're going to want to add keyframes so if we go back to frame and fit down on the bottom left hand corner um you'll you're going to want to click you see the plus signs those that's how you add a keyframe so go to your first frame and you're going to want to add a keyframe so then we're going to skip ahead by hitting the skip button right next to the play and you are going to drag your shape over to match and you're going to just keep doing that all the way across until your object leaves the screen okay once you've masked the edge of your entire selection you're going to notice that you have a rectangle that as you travel through the film you can see that background so you're just going to want to do one more title so right here you're going to go to that frame you're going to want to add one more title and you'll click on that title you'll hit edit go to your title screen and you'll delete the text now right now you just need to add one more shape we're going to make this a big rectangle and then we're going to go to position you're going to drag it to where it covers that area perfect uh you're gonna add a keyframe and you're gonna skip ahead and just keep adding keyframes until you get to the very end okay once you've finished filling all the empty space with green we're ready to export it so that we can key out the green and do our mass transition so we'll just hit share and export down the bottom right hand corner we'll hit movie and then we'll export it to photos and we'll save it okay once it's saved in photos we'll just go back to our original project add that photo that we just exported with the green background and you can see that it leaves a nice green square so let's kee let's duplicate a couple more of these okay that should work perfect so now what we do is here is we all we have to do is click edit we want to go to color and effects we're going to go to key and we want to do green green screen key once you click that effect you can hit back and now that bronco is going to reveal the logo just like we wanted okay so that's perfect we just need one final clip to tidy everything up for our commercial okay good enough for what we're doing so now i'm going to show you what the editing experience is on kind of like a desktop uh hooking this up to a mouse and a keyboard and using a monitor i will finish the sound design and then i'll show you how to export okay for those of you that want to edit with a more desktop-like experience you're going to want to get you an hdmi to lightning adapter or a usbc hub which is what i'm using here once you get that plugged in you can connect your mouse and your keyboard i like to use the magic keyboard trackpad with a mouse that's my favorite setup so let's go back into lumafusion one of the things that i like about editing on the ipad is how quickly you can scrub through footage without any lag no matter if it's 4k 10-bit um the ipad just screams through the footage so it makes it makes a really nice editing experience so what we're going to do now is i'm going to show you uh just kind of how to build your that you can do sound design um which is an important part of every edit so we want to find a video when this when we see the engine here or the front of this vehicle here we want to hear it start up okay there we go we found it so we're going to take this clip and we're going to drag it down i'm going to pinch with two fingers on my track pad and we're going to scroll that way down we only need the first little bit there so let's zoom back in um we're going to bring that just about here and we want that to show up when we see the engine so at the first of that clip and we don't want it to go much further than that last one i got all these sounds off epidemic sound they're really good for using in your youtube projects they're all stock and royalty free oh that's perfect so we want to drag this down we're going to add that to these clips here okay there i think we got it so let's see what it sounds like with sound effects [Music] okay perfect so now all we need to do is turn the music back on and i think we're good to export okay so to export you just click the share export button down here select movie i always export it to my photos and we're going to export this in 1920 by 1080 and we're good to go in a few seconds we will have our commercial [Music] redemption i would never let you down
