what you're looking at right here are the brand new amazon echo dots as well as the fourth generation amazon echo and while all of these are spherical there are quite a few substantial differences that we'll talk about in this video to help you decide which one's actually the better buy now first of all the price is going to be the most obvious difference the smaller ones here selling at fifty dollars and then the larger amazon echo selling at under a hundred dollars now besides being double the price there are a ton of differences internally let's start off with the obvious ones the first obvious one of course is going to be since these are smaller they're going to have smaller speakers on board so the amazon echo dots both have a 1.6 inch front firing speaker so single speaker in there compared to the amazon echo which has a three inch woofer firing upwards and then 2.8 inch tweeters now that's going to make a huge difference on the sound quality more on that a little bit later on in the video so i've been using all of these for about a week now and besides the sound quality and functional differences i'll mention in a second one of the most important things you want to consider is the space you have available so now that amazon has adopted sort of a spherical design here instead of the cylinder these don't both have the same footprint which means on a windowsill or a small ledge or any space that doesn't have a lot of room you might want to consider getting the amazon echo dots just because they're three and a half inches compared to roughly five and a half inches for the larger amazon echo now another thing to consider is being that these are spheres if somebody breaks into your house and you're looking for a little extra thing to throw at them the amazon echo dots are definitely going to be more baseball sized which means you can throw them farther now obviously i hope you never have to defend yourself with an amazon echo but for real the ledge space is actually a big difference you should be considering and then the functional differences are definitely pretty extensive as well so one of the big ones is going to be on the amazon echo the larger one you have some really cool internal things including a zigbee hub so you have bluetooth low energy amazon sidewalk like a lot of internal connectivity going on which means that you no longer have to buy a hub if you're using something like a phillips hue or literally any of the smart home devices out there that operate on zigbee and amazon sidewalk is something that's kind of newer from amazon that allows you to have sensors like farther away so something maybe a sensor outside like a motion sensor in your driveway you can use this as a hub right here honestly it's something that i really like to see sneaking down into the more affordable models a hundred dollars and you're getting that in a pretty large pretty good quality speaker i mean good job amazon another advantage to the larger amazon echo is on the bottom we have the quarter 20 threads right there which means you can mount this on like a tripod or some kind of stand i'm sure there's going to be more third-party devices coming out to mount that and be more creative in the future i'm not sure what they're going to look like but i'm excited to see what they do now the smaller one unfortunately the amazon echo dots i really like the spherical design but unlike the previous designs you're not going to be able to really mount these anywhere on the wall or anywhere except just setting them on a table they don't have any kind of threads on the bottom and i'm not entirely sure what would grip onto that i mean maybe you could try to mount it on the wall but it's going to be firing at a really weird angle anyway however an advantage to the echo dot is you have two different options available besides having a bunch of colors you have the amazon echo dot and then you have the amazon echo dot with an led display which by default is just showing you the time i really like having that on there it's just going to display what time it is all the time and you can also have a display other things it can show you the temperature it can show you timers and things like that i think it's a pretty handy thing to have on these i wish they put it on the larger amazon echo of course they don't have room for that because they have some speakers right there oh and speaking of colors the amazon echo dots also have more options so they have the kids colors available as well i think there's like a tiger and a panda so other than that you really don't have that many differences between the echo dot and the echo i mean obviously the size is going to be a big advantage for the echo dot and then the hub on the inside is going to be the advantage for the big echo right here but then of course the biggest thing that most people would probably be looking at when they're deciding between the two of them is going to be the sound quality and the sound volume and i think it's pretty obvious being that the the speaker setup is so much better on the amazon echo you have a woofer you have tweeters and you just have three speakers in there i found that the sound quality is obviously significantly better on there that's not to say it's not decent on the amazon echo dots they sound good enough and if you have two of them in the room you kind of have like it does sound pretty good but you're not going to get nearly as much bass as you're getting on the amazon echo so if you have a larger room i highly recommend considering the echo even if you don't listen at full volume just because the bass is going to travel through your room really well and it's going to sound warmer and more full so i'm going to play just a quick sample right here for you guys to see what i mean by that but i think it's pretty obvious i think most people would expect that as well the sound quality is going to be way better on the amazon echo [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now i pointed out a lot of the differences between these but just to clear things up they both have a lot of similarities as well so they both have amazon's uh alex is what i'm going to call it their voice assistant and it's going to give you the same responses on either of them it's not going to be specific to the device neither one of them is going to be smarter or whatever like that they both have access to the internet they both do pretty much the same thing like that now you have a lot of options with that as well you can ask it to obviously set timers and play music and stuff like that but you can also do some more advanced things like control a smart home even if you obviously even if you don't have the amazon echo they can both control smart homes you'll just need extra hubs if you have the amazon echo dots on top of that you can set routines and do stuff like that so you can walk in and say hey alex i'm home and have the temperature change and the lights change and music turn on and i mean obviously the options are endless and you can you can customize a lot of that within the app both of these also have the light rings on the bottom and they have the fabric covers the same four buttons it's really going to be a similar design and a similar experience with these you both have an aux port that could be in or out on the back of each device which means that if you decide to get the smaller amazon echo dot and you decide that you still want good sound quality but you don't want the large device here you could either run an aux cord out of this into another speaker or you can connect it by bluetooth which is a really nice option because like i said you're not going to get a lot of bass response on these small echo dots and it's also not going to be extremely loud and then lastly they both have power ports on the back however they are different power ports they come in the box though so i don't really think that matters so guys between these which one would i recommend getting i mean obviously it depends on your budget if you're on a tighter budget the amazon echo dot is a great buy and i really like having the clock on the front as well so if you have a smaller space like a small ledge somewhere or if you're on a tighter budget the amazon echo dot is certainly a great buy and if you are looking for a larger if you want obviously better sound quality or if you want to have you know some more devices in your home if you're thinking about getting maybe some philips hue light bulbs stuff like that the amazon echo is a really great buy i really like how they have that hub on board i think it's a great idea for amazon to add that but comment down below let me know which one you think you'll be buying and why if you enjoyed this video please consider liking and subscribing thanks for watching guys i'll see you next time [Music] bye
