EC Academic Planner - Is it better than the LifeplannerI!? | HanCanPlan

i am so excited to share with you the new academic line um i was totally grateful to have been chosen to share this with you mostly because i'm a nursing student and i've never tried their academic um planner so i won't be able to compare this to any other year i'm just going to give you my first impression because honestly these just barely came and i can't wait to share them with you we have a coiled the soft bound and the focused one so these three to share with you and then a couple of other things that i don't think are necessarily in the academic line but would match the theme so let's get started we are going to go over the coiled book first i believe this one is 38 these soft bound ones are 30 so they're a pretty great price i think for getting the erin condren quality you do get to choose a cover i'm not sure if this is new with the academic line or not but i love the birds of paradise we used to live in hawaii and my mom had some of these at her house and so it reminds me of living in hawaii but they wrote down here don't wish for it work for it i'm sure that you could personalize it with your name or whatever i think it's really really cute so the theme of the academic line this year is mid-century circles although it is a little different from the mid-century circles that is in the life planner i'll show you i do only have an a5 with the mid-century circles line but i will show you the differences it's pretty much the same just smaller i am sure that you'll be able to choose the coil colors with this as well and it only comes in an a or in the seven by nine i believe and it's in the colorful mid-century circles however the mid century circles that is in this one is like all outlined which i actually really like because it's a little less like in your face but i'll walk you through these pages first so you get this opening page the difference here is that it obviously says academic planner and then instead of just two blank lines it actually labels name in school i wish that they wouldn't do that i always like to do whatever i want this is what the life planner one looks like it's just two empty lines i would much prefer that the next page is the year at a glance a year and a half at a glance in the life planner this is with just my type it is very similar but without the i mean obviously just my type is a little bit more simplified in the daily duo this is what the future one looks like it has lines at the bottom so i'm not sure what the mid-century circles seven by nine looks like in the other ones but you know it's just kind of like basic i love i actually think this is super cute up here i just love the outlined mid-century circles way more than the filled in one this is what the filled in one is like this so i just think this is really really cute i like the fonts it's very easy and to read and laid out really nice okay so the next section is schedule obviously this is not in the normal life planner because this correlates with school but you have a blank page and the class schedule and then you have another class schedule probably for the second half of the year and then another notes page so i have to say after looking through this i kept thinking this is not only for i mean anyone could use this and it's it's like 20 less than a normal life planner so if you're looking for like a bargain book that's you know like semi bargain i totally recommend going with this academic i think it is awesome totally awesome so you could use this for your kids schedule an ideal week or if you're in school obviously you can use it for class schedules so you have that and then this is two sides of notes pages and then you get into the month so the month colors are the same as they are in the life planner but and then actually the quotes are also the same as they are in the life planner but they just look a little different so they're both rest and joy are essential they're both yellow but here you have completely yellow even to the little logo for the life planner i mean it's gray over here and yellow here so it's just completely monotone here and then you have a little bit of color on the normal life planner the next page is the month at a glance i love the academic month at a glance like so much more than the life planner i'm going to show you what it looks like in the daily duo um obviously it's going to be smaller because it's an a5 but you'll get an idea of the difference so in the academic you have just the outlined mcc in the life planner you'll have like these filled in mtc but they're the same colors the um academic has the year in the yellow and okay here's here's the only thing i wish that they would do with their academic i mean without that kind of but their calendar view a lot of these holidays i don't celebrate and not that i don't think that they should be included but they are giving us a sticker sheet full of holidays and i just wish that all holidays would be on those sticker sheets because i honestly the only thing i really there's a bug the only thing i really put into my the only holidays i really put into this is like christmas and then people who don't celebrate christmas probably don't want christmas so i just wish that they would just keep it blank especially in the a5 so not that this has anything to do with this but it will later especially in the a5 size where you have such limited space i just wish that they would keep it a little bit more simple anyway um so you have the outlined mcc okay the next page is my favorite i'm so excited about it so this right here this here and the bug that's flying around it's like a little fruit fly because we have we have um i'm around all my plans right here this right here is what i wish was right here i absolutely love this page i actually think that i would use it it just has a list of goals so if you're doing monthly goals you can put those there or i mean obviously you can do whatever you want here and then this says events and so you could put like birthdays or any major events that are happening this month and then you just have a notes section that's actually usable so in here especially if this was in the a5 size these are really little and tiny and hard to use and i hate like trying to figure out what's going to go in these places and i feel like i need to put like a quote here and i don't know it just feels like so much work that i end up just gluing these pages together this i would actually use i this they both of these pages i would use if i wasn't in school so here we could do your goals and then over here you have projects and exams and i would do if i wasn't in school i would use this for like projects that i'm working on at home projects at work um different things that i'm doing for my uh social media different you know companies i'm working with i could put my may i suggest series on here and who my guest is and what date we're doing and questions that i want to answer them this project page just i feel like it could be for anybody and if you're working on like home projects you could put the projects there and the things that you need to buy for it and when you want to get it done or if you're working on a goal of like learning the piano and you could put your lessons here and the things that you different want to get done so i love these two pages like 10 000 times more than i love these pages actually i love the notes page but this page i've never liked ever since i put it in it just i just glue it together so i never ever ever ever use this page anyway okay now we'll get back to the school thing so this is what a week at the weekly view is it is a horizontal layout but this is the way that i use a horizontal when i have used horizontals in the past i always separate it into three columns and what i normally do is events over here or any of the schedule appointments that i have will go right here and there's usually just a couple in a day that i need to write down so i have that's plenty of room for me i would do to do's here because i need a bigger space to write in and then over here i would put like any birthdays that are happening that day or i remember i would like take off my water goal over here and have little check marks for my water um i wish that this would be the to do section because i need a bigger space to write in this here's my little favorite ruler um this is an inch and a quarter of writing space right there from the dot over so it's not awful but it's also it's even smaller than like the hourly here like it's it's smaller than this section so it's just less it's really really small writing space not awful but i just would prefer to have my to-do's here and this just be a blank box like this like if they did blank box to-do's blank box that's what i would prefer not that you can't move it over or anything but because it's labeled it's a little annoying so you have your months correlating with the month colors i love it and i i know some people don't like not having full days for saturday and sunday i've never minded this because those are days that i usually do keep to having less things and then at the end of the month in the coil you have one two three four five notes pages so awesome so every single month you have your month with the correlating colors and the outlined mcc you have this amazing spread you have your weeks that correlate with the color of the month and then five notes pages and it goes on and on so if you don't know i'll just show you like the the different quote pages compared to this one so you have october november i actually kind of prefer the colors and then december in this book and that's all i have in this daily duel but it's gonna go you have all these different quotes the quotes are exactly the same as the life planner all the way through and then at the end of july you have your five notes pages and then it ends that's it there's not um any extra i mean obviously i think you have more notes pages in this book than you do in the life planner not tons more because in the life planner you have i believe nine i think that there's ten nine or ten notes pages in the back of this let's count so you have one two three four five six seven eight nine ten so you have ten notes pages in the back of a life planner and then at the end of every month you have one notes page and at the beginning of every month you have one notes page so in a live planner there are 24 plus 10 so 34 notes pages in the live planner and in this one you have 5 times 12 make it 60 plus 60 plus this these that you could i mean kind of half of a notes page so there's definitely more notes pages in this coiled one which i think is awesome so don't feel like you're being deprived by not having notes sections in the back they're just in the in the months which you know depending on who you are could be a positive or negative the things that are missing from the back of this book that are in this one other than the notes pages are the stickers this one has your academic and really would only correlate with you know academic you could use it for your kids and to mark when they have stuff but if you're not in school this might just be a throwaway page i have to say i rarely use these stickers so that's not a huge deal to me but this one does have these i think there's five look that one's upside down that's funny um four pages of notes it also has a folder and it has i thought it had like a contacts page oh it has the contacts page and then the future planning over here so those are the things you're missing from this you have to decide if i mean if you're gonna you choose this one for financial just being you know twenty dollars cheaper then oh you also are missing the perpetual planner you do not get that with this um if you are trying to choose this because it's more financially it's just cheaper um you have to decide if the folder and those stickers are worth that to you it might be but i actually think that this is an amazing planner i could totally see myself using this if i didn't need an hourly anymore and i i'm in love with it like i really think i i was so set on using my simplified for my school and now i think i'm going to use it for meal tracking meal planning and use this for my school i'm totally in love with it like really really in love with it but let me show you the other two so we have two they're very similar um one is the academic planner and this is in the mid-century circles and then this one is the focused so they're a little different um aesthetically just right off the bat you have they're both the faux leather this one has like a coating to it the rose gold that makes it feel like it has like plasticky on top of it this one feels more like real genuine leather um they're both faux but you know it feels more like i don't know it just feels more genuine um and then this one comes with one bookmark here in the rose gold and this one has two bookmarks you have like a sage green and then like the deep teal color so i think that's so cute this one is in the harbor color i would say this is like my favorite i love did i bring it i actually am currently planning in an hourly that has the same harbor it's coiled but has the same harbor uh cover faux leather cover on it and i love it so much i was super excited when i saw that they sent me the harbor one let's go over this one first it's the most similar to the coils that we just looked at it has this little sleeve wrapped around it and this is the rose gold coil or i'm sorry rose gold shimmer in the soft bound it has a rose gold oh whatever you call that edging to it and it's beautiful i'm not a rose gold fan but i know a lot of you guys are and so if you are this is it this is 30 i believe they're both i think both of these are 30 they didn't give us a whole lot of information about this stuff but um this one is mid-century circles inside i love i just love this like more hollow mid-century circles has the same academic planner this one is going to be laid out almost identically to the coiled i keep pointing over there like you guys know what's over there but um you have the future planning you have the same class schedule and then the notes page then it goes into the month there are no tabs you could buy tabs to put on these they actually have rose gold tabs that would match um you get the month at a glance this is much smaller than the other one let's see i'll pull up the same month as you can see the squares are just a lot smaller i think they're about the same height but the width on it instead of being i think these are one and a half yeah one and a half these are one and a quarter a little less than one and a quarter that's that's quite a bit of a difference in um writing room if that bothers you you get this same page this one is just so much more usable in this a5 then let me get the one up then this a5 it just gives you a lot more usable space i i guess i'm gushing over it but i just love this page then you get your projects and exams this one is a little i mean obviously it's going to be smaller than your other one you have a little bit less writing space but i think it's still totally usable and this is what the weeks look like so the weeks are a little bit different um mainly just because it's an a5 size and so instead of having three columns you just have two this is my problem with this one i don't even mind that this is a small space but for my to-do list that is nearly impossible to write in so your writing space is one inch and honestly probably unless you want your words to go right up against that dot it's not even a one space you probably have like three quarters of an inch to write in um compared to this one this one i think is one and a quarter which you wouldn't think a quarter of an inch is that much of a difference but it's a huge difference it's a huge difference i don't think i could write more than one word in this space right here it's just really really small so the weekends are nearly impossible to use because both of the spaces are just so tiny this would be a great to-do list section and i would love to have had this be blank where i could just write like exam today or so-and-so's birthday or no school like that's all i could really fit in that area so other than that i really really like this layout if i do choose to to use this one i will put my to-do list here and just kind of ignore that page right there or that side and use it for something totally different so anyway you have your weeks here and then the difference between the major difference between these bound and the coil is that you only have one note page at the end of each month it's a lot smaller the footprint is a lot smaller so that could be great for you it could be make you choose the coil but if you're wanting like a smaller planner this is where it's at so it's the same all the way through and then in the back you have some extra notes pages one two three four five just five extra notes pages in the back this and the coiled all these planners do come with the holiday sticker sheet that you can use and it tells you the dates and the different holidays these are enhancement stickers so if you want to add in like april fool's day grandparents day um like teacher appreciation day those sorts of things they are on this list and you can choose to add and then it has some functional stickers at the bottom okay this is the focused one this if i choose to use a soft bound i will probably go with this one um mainly because i love the harbor color i just think it is so cute i really like the neutrality of the insides i love the mcc a lot i do but there is something about the this harbor color that i love if it's not coming across correctly it's a gray that has a beige tone to it so it's like that greyish color of my walls um these are also really cute i love the two colors that are on the bookmarks that are built in i think that it's so cute and i'm not sure if this one comes in any other colors other than the rose gold and i don't know about this one either but if it does come in the other focus colors there are there's a blush pink there's um black camel um and like a blue like a slate color uh anyway inside of this you have your pin stripes and a little bit more simplified front cover compared to this one that's this one's pretty beautiful too i really really like it but this one's just a little bit more neutral this would be great for guys that are going to school if they're looking for something that's a little less colorful here's the future planning in this one trying to compare it to this it has the note sections at the bottom this one does not this one um those oh the months aren't that much bigger they're just more smushed together here so you have some notes pages at the bottom the fonts are capitalized here and here you have the lowercase kind of like the traditional and or erin condren fonts over here and then it's similar so we have the class schedule and the notes with the focused there are quarterly colors and so when you get to it you have it starts off with this like orange it's not a peach color there isn't pink in this orange it's definitely just like a light orange um starting in october you get this charcoal color and january brings on that like deep teal navy color and then in april you get the harper like the lighter gray so yeah the class schedule looks very similar to the other one just kind of a little bit more simple on everything that's on this here's where it gets a little bit different so the beginning of every month you have this almost two notes pages and then dates to remember in august this page is not in the other books here's the month at a glance you get the color of the quarter is up there you have two little calendars those are not in the other one the only thing that bothers me with those little calendars this is really irritating my design brain if you didn't know i was i've been a graphic designer for over a decade i worked for a magazine but i don't mind it here so much but here because this is all like centered with each other and then also you have this this calendar that is lined up it's like right aligned with to line up with this it just looks weird to me i feel like it needs to be centered with everything else or not on there it's just weird it's weird to me um so you have those two calendars you have the months or the major holidays are in here which again i wish they wouldn't be especially in these a5s and then a really really skinny note section um but that's not a big deal here's the very similar to the one that is in the mcc version just a little bit more simplified i mean in some ways it's more simplified that that um color up there is that block is really bold but you have almost the same font the font's actually a little bit bigger in the focus collection one and then you know it's all really similar uh in the mcc everything is a circle in the focus all the check boxes are actually boxes but you get that same page that i love which i'm kind of obsessed with [Applause] then you have the very very similar weekly view so in this weekly view you don't have the mcc at the top and the actual writing is in the gray but the dates of the week are in the monthly colors which i think is really fun it's not in your face so it doesn't bother me i don't i don't think i'd be decorating this anyway but other than that it's a very very similar layout with a way too small to do list on the side and kind of unusable weekend and then at the end of the month you get this page so instead of the notes page here at the end of the month let me pull that up so instead of having a notes page plus that quote page this is what this page looks like in here instead of this you get more usable space so you get more notes pages at the end of this book and i mean it just goes throughout the kind of very very similar at the end of the book you get the five notes pages that you do in the other one and you get the same holiday sticker book so those are the options for the academic planners i am very tempted to put this into my my um lineup i am super in love with this planner i think it would be great for anyone i actually think this would be like the most amazing content planner because of that goal set this little first this page i think this would be just like the best content planning um planning out your projects and different things that are happening the month i think this would be i mean i just really really love this book they did send me a couple of other things that i thought i would show you here's another cover again i don't know they didn't give us any information so i don't know if this is a new one or not but it says your potential to succeed is infinite i'm assuming that is not changeable that's the quote that comes with this and then i mean almost all of their planners can be customized i'm not sure your name would go on this but cute little like periwinkle blue with some peaches in it because it is a mcc themed they did send me the mcc accessories so i'm not going to open these because i actually already have all of them but they sent the pen this is a ballpoint pen is not my favorite i think it's way overpriced for what it is and i today i tried to change out the ink i'm sure that you can but i couldn't even figure i don't know it skips a lot and i feel like the ink is not very black it's like kind of a gray black and i don't know i i don't recommend these pens but the box is beautiful um i sometimes store my these in them i have a bunch of these like mini bookmarks i do think that these are some of my favorite accessories that erin condren sells and so anyway i store them in my box from last year in my last year's pen but they have the mcc bookmarks these are the best bookmarks ever i love their little size that you can still they're totally usable but they don't like cover up everything i use this one this has a to-do list on one side and they have days of the week on the other like this i use it for um my like content planning so i keep this in my content planner on my days of the week i write like what ideally i would put up on each of those days kind of like a theme so i have you know my weekly week at a glance and stickers and you know like whatever i want to post on those days ideally and then on this side i actually have my um morning routine and evening routine and they're written in permanent ink so i can erase it with like alcohol but then i can just pull it up while i'm doing my morning routine i don't keep it in my i actually just have it in the front of my planner so when i'm planning out my um schedule for my instagram or i am doing my morning routine i can turn to this bookmark so i really really like it i like that i can change it and have like a semi-permanent reference point and then of course you have the mcc sticky notes i'm not a sticky note user a lot of people use this for pre-planning i use the google calendar for pre-planning but um i know these are like a huge hit this one is super cute i love them all um and i always buy the sticky notes i just i'm not the user of the sticky notes anyway they're cute okay they also sent a highlighter and i hope this is not the only one available because i freaking love this thing what i love about their highlighters this one's a little bit different it's like square i don't know if you can tell but it is square so it's actually really comfortable to hold on to it has a purple highlighter on one end and a um whatever this color is pink gosh i'm tired you guys let me grab a notebook i wouldn't mind riding in okay so this one is kind of neony but not bad like most pinks are i'm always looking for that perfect pink highlighter um and this is purple both of them are a little bit neony but they're cute what i love about erin condren's highlighters i love them they're probably some of my favorite highlighters but they do not smudge my pens in erin condren book and i also just love they're a little bit thinner than a normal highlighter and so while i'm highlighting in a textbook or i'm highlighting littler words with littler space this is perfect but i also just i don't know the size is just so perfect this little ombre packaging is super cute if they have more of these colors i'm snatching them all because i freaking love this i think it is the cutest they write awesome um they have one set that has like a nude pink in it and everyone asks me when i use pink i get these questions like what pink highlighter is that what pink highlighter is it it's always erin condren i she's they're the light pink that i love it's just this super super cute bean so that's what they sent to me i highly recommend this academic planner i think it is i really really do think it's amazing and i think it would be great for anyone especially if you're just looking for a more affordable option and you want to try out their encountering paper um if you like horizontal planning i think that i actually like this better than the normal horizontal let me show you a normal horizontal i i only have the flora or the flower what is this one called flora i think um in horizontal and again it's a5 so it's small this is another page that you do not get in academic it's just like layout um this is what the horizontal looks like in the normal erin condren you just have this long um notes section here and then a blank place and so this one's separated into three obviously um the i love that the date is above the block because here that like cuts off some of the line the little date here and i also love if you go to like a holiday let's go flip to like valentine's day so valentine's day in the academic you have the date above here and the holiday is above here in the horizontal life planner you have the date cutting off some of the line and the holiday is on the first line so that is something to take note too this one does right to do i wish that i like no labels i don't want to be told what how i have to use my planner so i would have preferred this again just to be a blank slot like this i like the lines i love the lines in this one but i like that this doesn't tell me what to do anyway stop telling me what to do all right so that is it i hope you enjoyed this little review and walkthrough of the academic collection i very highly recommend this if you are looking for a planner and you are a list maker i would say the academic i might like it more than life planner it's pretty fabulous i hope you guys all have a great day i'll talk to you later see you bye
