hello everybody and welcome back to another video so lately i've noticed that tattoo textures have been like all of the hype and all of the rave and for good reason they look super cool when applied to an avatar so i thought it would be fitting if i made a tutorial explaining how to apply these tattoo textures bought ones or free ones to your avatar so you can look just as cool as everybody else without further ado let's get into my basic information before the tutorial because god knows i need to put that out there the avatar i have here today is nina by nymphy link will be in the description as always and the tattoo textures i will be using are my own for sale tattoos which i will also link in the description below although the files that i include in my tattoo texture that i will be showing you in the tutorial are also ones that are normally included in other people's tattoo textures so it's going over all of the basics if there is extra that i'm not covering please make sure to read the pdf document for said tattoo textures so you know what you're doing with those things such as unity scenes etc now let's get into an important piece of information when it comes to buying or even creating tattoo textures please make sure that you are buying from a trustworthy source if not there's always avatar servers to join in which you can simply ask hey do you know any trustworthy tattoo texture creators i say this because we want to make sure that the people who are selling their tattoos or when you are creating their tattoos have commercial licensing for their tattoos meaning that the images that are being used on the body they have commercial rights too this does not mean taking an image off of google and applying it to your texture that does not make it okay you have to make sure that these things are okay to use commercially and aren't stolen artwork because taking images like that without having knowledge of where they come from is potentially stealing another person's work because tattoo artists are still artists who can and sometimes do copyright their work when it comes to tattoos now please keep mindful of that when you're making buying etc just make sure you're getting it from a trustworthy source or hand drawn where you really don't have to worry about that but that's not to say every tattoo texture has to be hand-drawn it's just to be wary of where you're getting your images now we can get into the tutorial so the first thing you want to do is find the blank body texture for your avatar as simple as double clicking your avatar's body so the body outlines coming to your materials and simply finding body and where it says main texture click it so it automatically opens the folder in which that image is located let's say your avatar doesn't have a blank texture it only has the tattoo texture included within its asset folders the best thing to do is to reach out to the creator and say yo i want to apply text textures to my avatars do you happen to still have the blank file you used before applying tattoos or do you have it and most uh creators will have that and they'll hand it over to you if not it may be a little bit of a hunt to find the blank texture but it's not impossible there are very many ways to find it to go to servers and ask if somebody has the blank texture etc you just need the blank texture once you find that you are going to double click this in which i'm not going to do because youtube and the sake of not getting this video taken down and save that to your computer once you have it saved to a computer you are going to need a photo editing software such as i personally use but anything will work this includes if you export it to your ipad or whatever for some art software on there using photoshop using whatever you need it just needs to be able to put things on layers i will link in the description below because it is free easy to use it's what i'm using but anything that works that's able to edit a photo on here now ignore my really sad censoring i don't want this video taken down because i do not want to have to take it again after you have this you are going to open the files for where you have your tattoo textures it will be a lot of this now once you have this there is going to be normally three things i added four but we're going to ignore it because i want to go over the basic three you have the base color the emission map and the normal map for this specific part you are going to want the blank base color this is going to be directly dragged into the hierarchy of your photo editing software when you import your image into it it is going to be directly dragged into the same scene mean in this layers image you have your base texture that you put into the editing software and you have your tattoos make sure the tattoos are on the layer above the base so they show up like this you also want to make sure that the tattoos you are using are for your specific base meaning if the tattoos are for panda base the avatar you're applying it to has panda if it's tory based make sure the tattoos are for tory bass etc etc etc after that it'll line up perfectly with the uv mapping and you're going to save this to your computer for you're just going to go file export as and then just export it back to where you would like it again for the sake of just making this quicker i'm not going to do that myself once you have this image exported you are going to go back to unity you are going to drag and drop your image into here you're going to drag and drop it and you're going to go back to your body so the first thing we're going to do is take this texture and put it into the main texture slot where the texture is going to be applied after that we're going to apply it into rim lighting which is under lighting and reflections we're going to drag and drop that into rim texture and rim mask if you'd like therefore this rim lighting all of this rim lighting which was making it wonky before isn't going to apply to specifically my tattoos now there's a few other things that normal tattoo textures are included with and that is an emission map and a normal map so we're going to go over the emission first drag and drop that into your scene now what is the emission map it is basically masking the avatar's tattoo texture meaning that all of this black stuff is going to be left a mask imagine you're putting tape over an image everything you want to be painted on is going to have no tape but everything you don't want to be painted on is going to be taped over so when you paint over an image it's just going to map out that specific section that is what an emission map is you can use these for things such as the mat cap in which if you want it to be like gold you are going to drag and drop that into your mask exactly where it says mask apply your mat cap and you can have things like gold or whatever matte cap you want here this can be anything you can find a holographic image on google i also have a link in the description for that more in depth i suggest looking at that or you can do it for things like emissions which is under special effects so we're going to check that off and we're going to drag and drop our body emission into the emission mask and now our tattoos are going to glow red like this that is two things that you could do just going to apply a matte cap now the other thing that we could do is a normal map now a normal map is what gives a texture this applies for anything definition so if we look at the shorts here it has that texture that kind of lined texture that is a normal map it gives it like a material like not not this type of material but an actually field material now underneath main where it says normal map you are going to drag your normal map into that section it's going to say this texture is not marked as a normal map but after you hit fix now what you can do if i get real close to the body so you can see this if i drag up normal intensity you can see how these tattoos they pop out oh well okay you can see how they pop out they accentuate themselves just like this whereas if i pull them down they're just flat against the body now this gives some height and some definition to these tattoos to make them pop now that is most of the basics when it comes to tattoo textures and all there is unity scenes and some to give you materials or matte caps they used if there is simply just drag and drop the unity scene right into here into your assets folder and everything should be applied or put into your files that needs to be and you know honestly that's all there is to it if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments below but i really hope this helped
