hey guys so today I have another back to basics video for you and I am going to be showing you how to do an at-home mani so I've gotten a couple of requests for this video and I just kind of wanted to show you guys what I do when I do my nails at home because I get asked a lot of times just when I'm out friends whatever if I get my nails done or if I have gel nail polish on and I'm very very rarely go get my nails done because I have found that I like the way I do them better and I'm kind of a perfectionist so I like to be able to have control over what's happening here so I don't have to come home and redo them which I have done so if you would like to see what I do to get my nails looking pretty at home then please keep watching I always start off my at-home manis by shaping my nails with a nail file if you would like your nails shorter you can obviously cut them with nail clippers and then proceed to filing them down to the shape that you want I personally like a very square shape but I do make sure to round the corners just a little bit so that they're not so sharp I also like to file my nails while looking at them from a couple different angles just to make sure that the lines are all straight the next thing we'll reach for is a buffing tool sometimes when you file your nails the edges can be left a little bit rough and that can catch on things and just be kind of scratchy so I just like to make sure that the ends are nice and smooth and then if you want you can go in and buff the tops of your nails I don't always do this but it's sometimes nice to do just to make sure you have a nice smooth nail to work with if I have any hangnails I will go in with a cuticle clipper and cut those away once I've got my nails shaped the way that I want I will put cuticle oil on my nails so this just helps to nourish and strengthen my cuticles and my nails to keep them healthy and strong I don't do this every single time that I paint my nails because I have nail a Dede and do that quite often but I do try and do this about once every week or so so once it's on all your nails you just want to massage it in then be sure to wash your hands and give your nails a good scrub with a nail brush to get all the oil off before you start painting I always start off with a base coat this helps protect your nails and prevent them from yellowing you if you're just starting out I suggest using a light neutral color this will be more forgiving and hide any mistakes you might make one of the most important things is to go slow and take your time it's not a race so you'll make less mistakes if you're really taking your time so you want to start off at the base of your nail and then I sweep it to one side and then to the other and then sweep the excess down the middle I try to only do about three strokes but if you need to smooth out any extra nail polish feel free to do so another good tip is to make sure that the hand that is doing the painting is resting on a table or a hard surface it'll really help to study your hand and help you to make fewer mistakes when I'm painting my nails I almost always do three coats you can do two if you want it's definitely a preference thing I just like to do three because I like my colors to be really opaque I would suggest doing more than one though because adding that extra coat or two really helps to prevent your nail polish from looking streaky you want to keep a moderate amount of polish on the brush as you paint if you have too little you won't have enough to cover the entire nail and then it will look streaky and if you have too much then that is when you will get extra runoff into your cuticles or outside your nail it's just too hard to control so wipe off any excess if you do happen to get extra nail polish in your cuticle area or outside the nail area don't stress out you can use a small brush dipped in nail polish remover to remove it while my nails are still wet I apply it my favorite top coat and this just helps to lock in the color make your nails look extra extra shiny and prevent chipping so with this nail polish I do a really thick coat and you also want to make sure that you're kind of like lifting your nail to get the ends of your nail polish as well this is what's gonna help prevent chips from happening and that's it see it's not that hard you guys can do it I know you can I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial please like and favorite the video and don't forget to subscribe to my channel thanks so much for watching I will see you guys again soon bye you
