in this comparison we'll take a closer look at the Dyson V12 in the v15 as a longtime user of Dyson cordless sick vacuums over the last five years I've used four different Dyson models as my primary vacuum while the V12 might not be the most powerful Dyson ever it's easily become my favorite due to the lightweight design and the new push button start on the other hand the v15 is still a great option for those who have larger houses or lots of carpeting because of the extra suction power and the larger Dustbin I've been alternating between these two models for the last few months and in this video we'll quickly go over the similarities and then we'll talk about the four main differences the Dyson V12 was released last year in 2022 while the v15 was released in 2021 both vacuums come with the laser slim fluffy head which is a hugely effective tool for cleaning hard floors and one of my favorite Innovations of any tech product over the last few years and both models feature our hair screw tool for upholstery the crevice tool the combination tool and a wall mount for charging both the V12 and the v15 also come with an all-purpose set for cleaning carpets however the designs for these heads are a bit different interestingly the cleaning heads of the V12 and the v15 are not interchangeable unlike previous Dyson models in both vacuums feature removable click in batteries allowing you to purchase spare batteries the screen on both vacuums provide similar information and monitors the type of dust particles picked up during vacuuming the Dyson V12 is significantly lighter than the v15 the entire V12 unit weighs 5.2 pounds while the entire v15 unit weighs 6.8 pounds a difference of 1.6 pounds doesn't really sound like that much but when you're using it in real life it's pretty significant the V12 is so light that it's lighter than the V10 and it kind of feels like a toy compared to the v15 with the V12 I feel like I can vacuum all day and longer than the battery would allow me to without any strain on my wrist whereas with the v15 I have to switch hands as I'm vacuuming to get my wrist a break the lightweight nature of the V12 is especially useful when you're using it as a handheld vacuum it's easier to use for cleaning areas above your head such as ceilings and blinds and for furniture with the mini motorized brush the v15 as with all other Dyson vacuums features a red trigger that needs to be held down to power the vacuum this trigger is great for battery optimization because you can just let go the trigger when you're no longer using the vacuum and great for like switching rims but the V12 features a single button power control instead of holding down the trigger the V12 can easily be turned on by pushing the red button this red button is a brand new feature for Dyson vacuums but I'd be really surprised if it's not featured on all Dyson vacuums going forward it's awesome maybe I hold down the trigger a little too hard when I'm vacuuming but just as with my risk getting tired my fingers get tired too this single button is just way more comfortable when I'm vacuuming for five minutes with the v15 I have to switch fingers and it's worth noting that sometimes my finger can get slightly wedged in between the Gap and the trigger much like the difference in weight I'm not trying to say that this stupid button is a complete Game Changer because I've been vacuuming with a trigger just fine for years but once you get a taste of the button you will miss it when you have to go back to the heavier trigger models the v15 has a 3600 milliamp hour battery capacity while the V12 has a 2500 capacity even though the v15 has a bigger battery the runtime for both vacuums is similar according to Dyson and my test for reference I can clean my entire house and still have about 14 minutes to spare using the medium Auto suction mode on the V12 battery runtime just really isn't concern in my house you might be wondering how these two Dyson models have similar run times with very different battery sizes but it all comes down to suction power the V12 has 150 air watts of power using the max boost mode while the v15 has 230 air watts of suction this means that the V12 is 50 percent more powerful than the V12 in that Max mode well the V12 may have less power than the v15 it's still more powerful than the very capable and useful V8 and just as powerful as the V10 in real life the extra suction power of the v15 doesn't matter at all if you have hard floors because of how the laser Slim if he had works as I've talked about on all my other Dyson videos you can really get by with any of the models even if they have low suction power as long as you have that fluffy head however the v15 does have an advantage when it comes to cleaning carpets due to the extra suction power in the digital motor bar cleaning head it goes deeper on carpets and picks up more fine debris when both vacuums are used on carpets with the medium auto mode I can't really tell the difference between the suction but you can definitely feel it once you get to that turbo setting the V12 cleaning head is similar to the older V8 without the adjustable grate which makes it less effective at picking up big debris considering that the older models like the V8 and the V10 are just fine on carpets so is the V12 but if you do have a lot of carpets in your house and you do want the deepest clean I think you want the v15 a small factor that contributes to the v12's lightweight design is the smaller Dustbin the V12 Dustbin capacity is 0.1 gallon making it the smallest among all Dyson vacuums that I've tested and it's half the size of the v15's 0.2 gallon Dustbin so it's a V12 small Dustbin a deal breaker to help you gauge your needs let's go over my experience first in my home I vacuum once a week covering 1200 square feet of mostly bamboo flooring with a few area rugs here and there I have a wife who sheds a lot and then a dog who sheds even more than her under these conditions I can vacuum my entire house without needing to empty the dust bin until I'm done however when I am done the Dustbin is completely full and probably can't hold anything else in it on the other hand for somebody like my parents who have a huge house and four shedding animals I'd probably recommend the v15 theoretically the V12 could handle the workload in this scenario but you'd have to change the bin a few times throughout your cleaning session and if you're okay with that the smaller dust bin of the V2 12 shouldn't be an issue interestingly the smaller Dustbin of the V12 offers a more seamless emptying experience while the Dyson site says that there's no need to touch the dirt with their hygienic bin emptying I found that this isn't entirely true most of the dirt will come out with a single slide and then you can keep sliding to get more of the dirt out but usually there's hair in the dirt that attaches to the hair that tends to get trapped inside the bin and this requires you to reach inside to remove it with the V12 I can reach into the Dustbin easily to remove the hair but sometimes with the v15 my sleeves get dirty if I don't roll them up when reaching deep into the bin the Dyson V12 is the dream vacuum for those with smaller houses and primarily hard floors its lightweight design makes it easy to use even for extended periods and it's great for cleaning out cars and Furniture when used as a handheld well the V12 can handle carpeting it just won't go quite as deep as the v15 the v15 is a great choice for those who prioritize deep cleaning on carpets it has 50 more suction power on the turbo mode and it has a better cleaning head however this increased performance comes at the cost of added weight in the trigger mechanism well I've been using the v15 for almost two years without any issues it's worth noting that I kind of get annoyed when I have to go back to using it after using the V12 just because it's not as comfortable to use like I've been saying for years any Dyson model with the Fluffy head will be effective for cleaning hard floors even the older models like the V8 and V10 are just fine for hard floors but to get the best performance on hard floors I really recommend the laser fluffy head because that laser is really helpful and not only comes with the v15 and V12 so that's all I have for this video and let me know if you think I missed something or if you still have questions thanks for watching I'm out
