hello and welcome to Dyson lifestyle Tech I'm Keith and today I'll be reviewing the Dyson Gen 5 detect let's get into [Music] it cordless vacuum cleaners have been around for decades and for the longest time have been regarded as nothing more than lightweight tools for quick cleanups however Dyson set out to change this notion with the unveiling of the DC35 Digital Slim in the early 2010s their Engineers were on a mission to design a machine as capable as a traditional vacuum without being Tethered to a cord the DC35 was just the beginning Dyson continued refining their cordless vacuums over the next 7 years this Relentless development culminated in a significant breakthrough in 2017 with the launch of the Cyclone V10 featuring a radically new inline layout it boasted increased power capacity and performance the Cyclone V10 was pivotal in shaping Dyson's vacuum cleaner design Direction moving forward James Dyson himself stated that his company would cease developing corded vacuum cleaners emphasizing their commitment to cordless technology we're not putting any more development cost into making machines that have a cord cuz we believe this is the future and this is the way should clean your home in the future so it's quite a brave step for us but we think we're doing the right thing building on the success of the Cyclone V10 Dyson has pushed the boundaries further with subsequent iterations leading to the creation of one of their most sophisticated vacuums yet the Gen 5 detect the Gen 5 detect features a fifth generation hyperdia motor delivering 280 air WS of suction power it also showcases an improved HEPA filter now capturing particles as small as .1 microns equipped with a pyo sensor it provides detailed dust analytics in real time showing how many particles have been collected as well as their respective categories the Gen 5 detect also features a new power button in place of the pistol trigger a redesigned fluffy optic cleaner head with twice the illumination of its predecessor and a re-engineered 10 Cell lithium ion battery that provides up to 70 minutes of fade-free runtime all right so now that we're more familiar with the Gen 5 detect let's get our hands on one to see how it performs in a real world setting every Gen 5 detect includes an aluminum wand a hair screw tool and combination tool a fluffy optic cleaner head a digital motor bar cleaner head a Wallock and a charging cable the Gen 5 detect has all the tools you need to get the job done but does it have the juice to see the job through Dyson claims that the Gen 5 detect will provide up to 70 minutes of run time time on a full charge however actual run times will vary depending on the attachment being used as well as the power mode that is selected with the push of a button you can select from three settings Eco Auto and boost when using the digital motor bar on a full charge you'll get 41 minutes of runtime on eco mode 23 minutes on auto mode and 12 minutes on Boost with the Fluffy optic you'll get 79 minutes of runtime on eco 44 minutes on auto and 15 minutes on Boost with the hair screw tool you'll get 69 minutes on eco mode 42 minutes on auto and 14 minutes on Boost non-motorized tools will have 64 minutes of runtime on EC mode 35 minutes on auto and 7 minutes on Boost so far we know that the Gen 5 detect has the tools and the power but what about its actual performance [Music] the digital motor bar is designed for cleaning carpets and area rugs with several enhancements to improve its performance equipped with adjustable Gates it finally Tunes suction for precise adaptability across various carpet types while improving large debris collection in addition the cleaner head features hair removal veins that prevent hair wrap on the brush bar with this cleaner head the Gen 5 detect Glides around tables and easily goes under Furniture using the digital motor bar with the gates set to medium allows for effortless use on average mid pile carpeting however when dealing with low pile area rugs featuring dense piles I found it essential to fully open the gates on the left setting to ease up the suction and make it easier to push overall the digital motor bar effectively picks up mixed debris especially when the motor bar slider is set to the medium setting keeping the gates open wide enough for Effective collection while maintaining direct suction for deep [Music] [Music] cleaning [Music] while the digital motor bar performed as well as I expected with large house old debris I was pleasantly surprised with how well it handled large quantities of hair when dealing with this hair the digital motor bar excelled thanks to the row of hair removal veins that prevented hair from tangling on the brush [Music] bar aside from being well engineered the performance of the digital motor bar is aided by the onboard pyo sensor that uses particle readings to adapt to the Gen 5's performance upon the pyo sensor detecting an influx of debris the Gen 5 detect ramps up suction power until the debris is completely [Music] cleared so the digital motor bar performs well on carpeted surfaces but how does it do on bare floors the digital motorb bar is good at collecting light debris on bare floor surfaces however when faced with heavy debris it struggles to manage it with debris buildup around the front and back of the cleaner head fortunately Dyson Engineers have identified and resolved this issue with a distinctive solution Meet The Fluffy optic cleaner head crafted specifically for hard floor surfaces with its lowprofile soft roller The Fluffy optic effortlessly sweeps in debris leaving behind a Clean Sweep with every pass the soft roller effortlessly gathers everything from large debris to tiny particles without scattering or dragging beyond the soft roller The Fluffy optic gets its name from the intense green laser that illuminates fine dust that is invisible to the naked eye when the fluffy optic is activated you will see every Speck of dust in its path encouraging a thorough cleaning of the entire floor every time you vacuum so far we've established that the Gen 5 detect does well on both carpets and bare floors but what about above the floor surfaces how does it do there indeed the Gen 5 detect offers a versatile set of tools for various surfaces including an integrated combo tool within the aluminum wand that instantly turns your stick vac into a hand vac this combo tool features a retractable dusting brush ideal for clearing debris from hard surfaces such as countertops and coffee tables while the integrated combo tool adds convenience for dusting and cleaning crevices users accustomed to attaching the crevice tool at the end of the aluminum wand for extended reach might find it disappointing that the wand cannot attach to the main body without the integrated tool in its sleeve however the Gen 5 detect is Backward Compatible with older non-motorized tools like this combo tool although older motor ized tools from previous models like this hair screw tool from a v15 detect are incompatible due to a newly introduced electrical connector on the Gen 5 detect the white nozzle and dusting brush combination tool is also included with the Gen 5 detect which is suitable for hard and soft surfaces like tabletops and upholstery the highly effective anti-tangle hair screw tool is also part of the Gen 5 detect package continuing to comess with its exceptional ability to remove hair without any tangling around the brush [Music] bar like any High Performance Machine the Gen 5 detect requires regular maintenance these are the tasks owners must perform to keep their machines running at their Peak it's vital to empty the clear bin after each use especially once debris reaches the max fill line occasionally long hair May wrap around the Shroud requiring the user to remove it from the bin by hand Also I suggest periodically removing the clear bin and gently wiping it down along with the Shroud with a dry or lightly damp microfiber towel to eliminate any builtup debris avoid exposing the Shroud or main body assembly to running water the soft roller on the fluffy optic cleaner head May develop stains with regular use to clean it Twist Off the end cap remove the soft roller rinse and agitate the soft roller under running tap water for stubborn stains treat them with a laundry pre-treatment spray agitate and rinse until the water runs clear let it dry for 24 hours before reinstalling additionally inspect the cleaner head dry unit and endcap for possible hair wrap and promptly remove any hair if found Dyson recommends rinsing the heit filter once every month to do this Twist Off the filter and rinse it with cold tap water until it clears allow it to dry for 24 hours before reinstalling in summary my experience with the Dyson Gen 5 detect left a lasting impression the Gen 5 detect is a top tier cordless vacuum cleaner that absolutely makes it easy for people to cut the cord and never look back boasting impressive power intuitive operation and a comprehensive set of tools that leave no Corner untouched eliminates the need for multiple Vacuums in your home with its outstanding suction power effective cleaning performance and generous runtime the Gen 5 detect surpasses the typical cordless vacuum reshaping the landscape of vacuum cleaner industrial design so overall I've been very impressed with the Gen 5 detect however there are some drawbacks that I need to address at an MSRP of $949 many potential buyers May hesitate before purchasing however the investment may be worthwhile if you value the technology and its performance apart from pricing concerns I'm somewhat disappointed by the frequency of hair entanglement around the Shroud when emptying the clear bin extracting tangled hair by hand occasionally contradicts the intended convenience of the dirty projecting clearin
