foreign ER with wine Gunner racing you guys are in for a treat today with this video I promise you that today I'm comparing two different Chinese big block Chevy aluminum heads not on the float winch but Dino numbers um I'm at the very end of this video I'm going to link to a video that I had done before because I had compared a set of pro Max 317 heads that's what these are to a set of AFR enforcer heads and then a skip white Bravo heads the skip white Bravo heads and the AFR enforcer heads were the exact same heads just different valve train components and they dramatically flow different because of that and um the AFR actually was the one that flowed more but the Promax flowed more at different lifts than the AFR enforcers which we'll talk about today however a lot of you keep commenting on the videos whenever I do this especially with the flow bench stuff that well that's fantastic and all but that's flow bench what's the dyno say I bet you it performs different on a Dyno and you know what there's a lot of validity to that so I got to do that so what happened was one of the guys that watched this video um or watches these videos his name is Nick he has his own YouTube channel DZ performance he said you know I got a 496 and I've got to set AFR enforcers they're already on it and I Dyno tested before why don't we do a whole bunch of tests on different heads and stuff would you be okay with that I was like absolutely well he didn't have any pro Max heads so I called up Promax being up front and honest with this as possible I called up Pro Max I was like Hey we're gonna do some more Dyno testing would you send some 317 heads and a set of 290 heads which isn't in this video but yeah I tested those too because the comparison between those and this one is pretty cool but anyway they're like yeah they wanted nothing for it but I want to be up front these heads were given to me to True use um because I didn't ask they didn't nothing else was done so completely stock so they didn't ask for me to make them look good nothing like that which some of you might say that now AFR by the way has done a lot of help with me on the small block stuff but nothing on this big block but in all fairness I also didn't ask so anyway it was a 496 by DZ performance and all the information you're going to see today is inside this book it is ready to ship so I've shipped out a bunch already I'm gonna ship out some more on Monday these are available to purchase so all this data that you see in this video is in this book it's available to be purchased on my website wengins.com and you'll see a link there to my online store where you could purchase this book and even though it says PayPal you can use your credit card when you do that that's just the company that does it but everything you're about to see is in here so when you see these Dyno numbers and stuff there's way more stuff in there uh all the tests are in here not just this test but uh from that entire session which is a bunch it's all in there so anyway now let's get better to it what are the heads that was compared now unfortunately I don't have a set of AFR enforcers here to show you those are gone they were Nicks so back when Nick these are mine and this intake's for a customer and they were used on both so let's start off with the engine and then I'll get to these pieces the engine was a 496. it had a sky rotating assembly and a set of Mall Pistons 18 CC dome but because of the way that the head gasket we had to use and everything the compression ratio varied depending on the heads but typically between 10.3 and and like 11 and 2 on some heads I will tell you the exact compression ratio for these heads in just a minute and the AFR enforcers because they were different because the chamber size was different the camshaft's really small it's a hydraulic roller a 243 247 custom by the way from lunati and 638 lift 110 lobe separation the carburetor used was a Pro System 1000 CFM carburetor and on both of the heads the same intake was used we actually used multiple ones but this was the one I'm going to compare today because this one was completely stock this is in case you're wondering why on track Warrior where it is right here nice intake by the way this thing really does perform right out of the box this is completely stock nothing's been modified on it at all I still have to wash it and send it out to the customer but this intake is pretty good so that was the intake used that's pretty much its combination for the 317 heads they're completely out of the stock out of the box I had them when I had Promax Sydney I said I had them set up for hydraulic roller except for I did change one thing and I want to be up front with this so on the package that they had sit now I got it all in my hand I checked the spring pressure there were 165 pounds on the seat in like 430 open but on all the other heads I checked they were all in 175 pound on the seat in like 450 open so there's slightly more spring pressure so to make up for that all I did was take off this retainer and put a minus 50 000 slock it it would decrease the installed height and got the exact same spring pressure which is like 172 I think is what it ended up exactly at and I can't remember exactly on the open pressure but like 430 something but in other words I wanted all of them to least all the heads we tested to have about the same spring pressure I checked the afrs were 175 pounds on the seat and about the same so all of them had about the same spring pressure all in the 172 to 175 pound range and all the heads tested but especially just these two now here's the weird part even though it's a hydraulic roller cam we tested it with a solid roller lifters and we sit and blast them at six thousands with hope to avoid valve float this is the bad part all the heads were and we tested the brodix race right 270 ovals the brodix race rack 294 rectangular ports and Promax 290s the AFR 265s all those were tested and every single one of them went into valve foot above 6300 the AFR enforcers though those ones actually within the valve full earlier like at 61 or 62. so even though they had the exact same spring pressures as even these they floated earlier which was strange none of the rest of the heads that we tested did it in this video we're just talking about the 317s though but I wanted to be upfront with that the only thing changed was the locks just to give the same spring pressures it still also went into valve foot about 6400 RPM with the AFR and Forester do it at about 6 200. am I saying well how can you know for sure you'll see the drop-offs on the dyno stuff was dramatic so we tried doing pulls from the lower RPMs because several of you want to know what's it make down low what's it make down low so we really started the pool about 3 600 RPM we tried sweeping to 65 but then you would see valve flow would happen pretty much after 63 so I was like no sense of beating up the valve train we'll just end the polls at 63. when we did the AFR enforcers which was after this head um it just went into valve float earlier so yeah there you go other than that completely stock but let's get to the fun stuff I'm going to move this out of the way so I can show you the book and show you um the information you're really wanting to see because it's pretty cool because I got overlays setting this down hold on all right so this is the book when I get to the some of the stuff first this is one of those things too I had flowed both so I had flow bench numbers for both on a 4310 board no exhaust pipe this very first one is the 317s now if you notice from a big block Chevy heads we have a long run and a short Runner so they floated flow the different they do flow differently and that's the exhaust if you look at this head now this is where it's interesting the 9x page the AFR enforcer flow numbers the AFR enforcements that Peak flowed more than these these only did uh 359 and if you look at the peak on this 365. so if you use that formula that several of you try to use where you two horsepower per CFM no you can't use that um but anyway looking back and forth the pro Max is better all the way to about 700 lift than this and you're like why I can't see it buy the book okay I'm just showing this make it easier for you but if you want to get close review instead of pausing stuff buy the book all the phone numbers are in here but anyway the exhaust side the pro Max is far superior far superior it just dominates now that's only one aspect I'm gonna back up just a little bit because I want to show you this I recorded a whole bunch of other stuff so I measured all the inside diameters and things for the heads except for the AFR enforcers I didn't they were already they were tied up at the time so I didn't get a chance to measure them and I actually thought I already had them measured but I didn't here's the interesting Parts it's a 225 intake valve they claim 335 CC's intake runner the average CSA is 3.4 the chamber because it's 122 CC's it yielded 10.01 now to the Promax give me a second to flip pages the pro Max see how you have all these measurements because I was able to measure it um it's got a larger intake valve at 2 300 so it's a bigger intake valve than the AFR enforcers so this is a funny one too it has a worse coefficient of discharge remember that because people say that makes the thing worse average CSA is much lower at 3.24 um it's chamber size 119 which yielded to 10.25 so it did have a lot more compression because of that now let's get to the dyno stuff [Music] boom here are the 317s so we're going to start off with this one this is the pro Max 317s track wear intake it actually have all the heads tested this one made the most horsepower it made 682 horsepower at 6200 and then it starts dropping off or sorry 685 at 6300 RPM we tried running it further because it's still climbing and like I say it was in the valve float I think if we added more spring pressure this might have a kept climbing a little bit and got a little bit more out of it but really really good there now how's it compared to the AFR enforcer right here's the AFR enforcer oh let me back up because I know somebody like what about the torque and one more page so you tested two manifolds on it the torque came in at 625 foot pounds of torque before you think this engine to Pooch because I know several of you think that because you're so used to internet numbers um this Dyno it reads one of the tightest items I've been on Nick had been taking this engine itself and died somewhere else before we went there and it was up 30 horsepower from what dunsworth was so this these numbers are real numbers and the internet world this could be 700 horsepower 800 in some places but these are preparing on the same Dyno as all were useful for is just to have the numbers be able to repeat now let's look at it so remember 685 625 now for the AFR pusher 651. see at 61 it goes 646 and then it starts dropping off it lost almost 20 horsepower between 61 and 63. it's a huge sign of valve float usually what happens even if the Cam's too small it'll drop four or five maybe seven not 20. you're not dropping 20 horsepower and a couple hundred art and 100 RPMs that's foul flow the torque look at this this is a huge difference remember a 625 with the pro Max 605 20 foot pounds of torque so how much is the difference so remember that video and I'm gonna link it at the end how much better were these heads remember they're not paying me to say this 30 horsepower and 20 foot pounds of torque better yes that much of a difference so on the flow numbers kind of for the most majority of the flow numbers these were better and it showed up on the dyno tube so anyway one more thing to show you is this because a lot of people want to see an overlay this might help you understand it just a bit better here is the overlay of the two the black line that you see here is the Promax 317 heads that's the AFR enforcer heads in red if you notice you're like well it's going to cross over no it's down at the beginning it barely touches there it matches it at this one point and then no yeah and you notice how this is when it happens when we ran at the 6500 RPM I just want to show you because most that page you just saw we cut it off at 63 and it's because it's trying to go into valve float too it's going to mean how it's dropping off like this yeah now don't forget either the AFR 335cc Runner you would figure it would make more power up top compared to this only being 317 CC Runner incorrect there's more to it people like well it's velocity yes it is that's a huge part of it now don't get me wrong part of this might be a loss of compression ratio also did not help it not make any more torque either because look at this thing I still would have expected it with it the way it is maybe the torque should carry it further but no all it is it looked almost identical from this point on just much lower I mean that's a huge loss there's there's no wind to that there's nowhere in a scenario where I could see where that's out running the the AFR enforcers are out running that and on the track there's I just cannot conceive of it so to answer the question which is the better Chinese heads well here's some evidence I'll let you make your your own conclusions I'm not going to do that for you I'm just providing evidence from what I tested and you can make do with whatever you want now here's the interesting part because you're like well that's fabulous you should see in later videos I'm going to do this I have the pro Max 290s which are the smaller head than this was tested against this and it's it's very interesting I'll say that not only that I know it looks like I'm beating up on the AFR afr's 265s those are pretty good too very good head wait till you see those numbers in later videos because I'm it's shocking I'll go ahead and give you a little highlight the 290s were very close to matching the same power and they actually made less torque which goes against what most people think the smaller run or more torque no that didn't happen same with AFR 265 nope didn't happen either but they were much closer to this so you got to watch that for later videos anyway if you want the book again my website wages.com there's a link to my online store again very good heads from Promax and um yeah there you go is there more give you some stuff to think about guys remember I'm not Superman and uh that means I'm wrong a lot and uh but I appreciate all of you watching so I remember Superman you guys take care
