Paul Newman touched the lives of many people with his generosity humor and humanity his craft was acting his passion was racing his love was his family and friends and his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place we started passing the salad dressing out of Christmas time six weeks later people were knocking on the door is asking for refills Paul believed in the role of luck in a person's life the abundance of good luck in his and the brutality of bad luck in the lives of others he always thought of the success of Newman's Own is part hard work and part good luck Paul started experimenting with recipes and in 1982 the food business Newman's Own Inc was born Newman's Own has grown into a multi-million dollar international food business by offering high quality all-natural products today Newman's Own provides over 100 products ranging from its famous salad dressing to popcorn from the very beginning Paul gave all the profit away to charities around the world to address a range of issues such as children with life-threatening conditions health education the environment community development emergency relief and the arts Newman's Own foundation carries on Paul's philanthropic legacy and continues to donate 100 percent of net royalties and profits after taxes from the sale of Newman's Own products to charity as of the summer of 2009 Paul Newman and Newman's Own foundation have contributed more than 275 million dollars while Paul's philanthropic donations were wide-ranging he was especially committed to the thousands of children with life-threatening conditions served by the hole-in-the-wall camps which he founded in 1988 Paul envisioned the camps as places where kids could escape the fear pain and isolation of their conditions whenever I'm in the dump I come up here and it reaffirms everything that I think is really good today there are 11 camps throughout the world including Dynamo Camp in Italy the first in southern Europe located in the midst of a World Wildlife Foundation reserve in lemma stray and the pistoia hills in tuscany dynamo is designed for children with life-threatening and chronic diseases it's therapeutic recreation program allows children to gain confidence self-esteem and independence behind all of the fun the camp's intentional programming is designed to enable the children to experience success and discover newfound strength and courage to cope with their illness in May 2006 Paul Newman visited the Future Sight of dynamo there was a lot of work to be done but Paul could see the potential of the site after having thoroughly surveyed the grounds he found it to be a perfect venue for the camp Paul always said that if he did have a legacy he hoped it would be philanthropy and the hole-in-the-wall camps today through dynamo camp a piece of Paul Newman's philanthropic legacy is alive and well in Italy serving children from Europe free of charge Dinamo is also reflection of the best of Italian civic spirit and generosity what could be better and to hold your hand out to people who are less fortunate than you are that's simply the way I look at it you
