well I wonder if you feel just sitting here now that this presence is actually the the functioning operator isn't it it's not static is it it's not something dead it's something plus plus alive isn't it it's that More Alive than we are we are the things aren't we the things of this world because that is really where it all starts from then it sort of filters down into [Music] this now Mel asked about um various ways of meditating really well how many ways aren't we meditating now there are many ways of them I believe most most traditional mantras are really based on the name of God that's how the Sanskrit man I was in first taught with the Sanskrit mant I didn't know what it was really just just a short word three [Music] letters it was year years later that uh not really not knowing quite how wide at all really that I I changed the name of Jesus there's something called the Jesus prayer which is the the ancient traditional form of Christian meditation rather lost sight of in the west but much practiced in the East it's very well known in Russia this place Mount Athos it's all the monks practice it the the Jesus prayer well that's simply using Jesus as a mantra it starts off with a rather long number of words but in as you practice you can just ends up with just something simple Jesus Lord Jesus then as with most practices it may get less and less you may end up with some just simple little pulse really and that itself May Fade Away we just rest in this may even just be taken you see it's no longer my no longer initiated by me surrender and you're taken well God knows well it's a long long Evolution and everybody's progress is different so that's why bit don't like to be too um too dogmatic in with a crowd because you all got different experiences some people find it very easy to go to the heart others not so easy some people remain in the realm of mind for many many years per sometimes probably never leave it others uh find it very easy some pray very easily with tears others don't basically it's Just Surrender it and whatever helps you to surrender then or whatever helps you to move from Little me into something a bit bigger what works that it let it serve if somebody wants to ask something I I'll try to answer but I I don't think I really want to say much more from myself I counted myself very fortunate I was very well taught I went to a school of meditation and attended this school for 20 years um I feel really very sorry for young people now who shop around on the internet and really pick up one Guru after another and you know keep switching the methods it's very confusing for them and I'm I'm feel lucky that it wasn't like that for me but I do I if anybody is is not part of the anti- Jesus Brigade I I I do uh if somebody asks me I do recommend Jesus cuz you're safe with Jesus it's part of our tradition isn't it in our Western tradition and um unless you've got a good reason not to I don't know anything better really and if you if you love Jesus and and your heart and your belief and your faith is you know becomes part of your meditation then so much the better and even if you feel a bit wishy-washy about it at least you it's not going to hurt you there some Manas a bit of questionable maybe so it's worth being careful I think what you pick up on the internet but Jesus you're safe at least in my experience above all it it again in my experience and the way I was taught regularity every day Day morning and evening don't try to do too much don't be you know you may have heard I meditate for a long time don't worry about that when you're old you can do what you like but don't try to do too much when you're young short and regular is much more benefit than trying to do long periods often ask quite enough or to begin with with even less just qu of an hour that's how I started qu of an hour night and morning and gradually 20 minutes and only after a year or two was I asked to do half an hour I remember one hot summer day I was thirsty in the field and I had a row of lettuces and I tore the head off a lettuce and ate it I felt such a shock of pain from that lettuce I remember I knelt down in the field and apologized I felt so ashamed what i' done I just didn't realize it do it seem silly but but that's that's what happened I think in so so many little things instances like that gradually gets into our thick stupid heads you know this the effect of sin what sin is how and the effect does not on me but on how it infects nature everything is corrupted because of man you know in the Genesis in the Bible God says cursed is the land for thy sake you see and it's real it's not only my death it's the death of the creatures the death of everything this corruption that has permeates the whole of the whole of our known world it's not like that in the real world at all there's no death here there really isn't is there you can see for yourself in presence if we lived in presence what can die if that is our reality there's no death there's no corruption no Darkness it really is so and in meditation when we are taken Beyond uh consciousness of our body which and the world what's there we can't say because it's beyond description but we leave this behind don't we so when we look when you hear the news that some's died or you know even you know Wars and disas and things yes well part of you recognizes that as a human level and maybe you you grieve for it but another Another Part of You knows nothing dies nothing is lost and for a long time we may sort of see saw between the two and then gradually this reality of not death supersedes the reality of death and so we gradually grow from one to the other our our perception becomes more spiritual and less corruptible and as as and the world is what we make it you see this what we see like beaut is in the eye of the beholder so if your eye is pure then that's what you see more and more step by step did I emphasize this again and again it's not a sudden jump from Darkness to light it's a very gradual Dawning process over many many years well that's how it's been for me I know you get a few Wonder people who sort of get it overnight but I think for most of us it's a long slow process and eventually see we we eventually we just die out of this world we die out of childhood we die out of all school being school children we die of all these things and eventually we we die out of mortality itself we die out of death gosh what a thing to say but it's true you know you can feel it come to yourselves this presence there's a sign behind me there saying be still and know that I am God it's right isn't it you see the ego has been given life not only by ourselves but by the world we live in and of course the the the ego is is C to this isn't it it's it's moving living and functioning in a different direction so there's a tension between the two and it is a struggle it's it's always been called the Unseen battle isn't it battle between good and evil between light and darkness this is how it is and we are all part of this Soldiers of Christ or however you want to call it but struggle is against the pow of Darkness of this world the the uh opposition of of this what is evil e v i l is live spelled backwards isn't it back to front in the world just think of the fuss we make about death for example here am I saying there is no death course most people just laugh at you even if take offense don't they go so I'm afraid resistance from not only within ourselves but from the world is very much being laughed at or just just ignored usually is very much part of it all to come back to perseverance and regularity of practice Soldier on sorry dear no shortcuts my comfort's always been nature I think yeah but no I've got no answer D it because at it's so different from my age now I've had a long life of experience and I'm stronger in spirit now I don't get so upset by these things I can just you know throw them off but when I was a boy of course i' been made miserable by these things it's it's isn't it how do you deal with it tears or when I was old enough I could run up the hill there's a wonderful great open expanse above bqu where used to go up there but I was always alone and so you then faced with the other problem of loneliness aren't you nobody understands it's awful Isn't it can't bear to be with people can't bear to be without nobody loves me nobody wants me nobody understands it's awful Isn't it I don't got no easy answer de thinking back to my younger days I suppose this getting away from it just Solitude Carlin was what I did I don't know that that's or maybe it is a good way of coping with it I don't know dear that's what I did I went to Nature anyway I still do that really just after we had our sandwiches went out for a little walk I always feel better than watching leaves on a tree I find infinite comfort in that I feel among up at home with my little brothers and sisters when I look at that grass I love grass I've always thought that the the the happy people in life you know the ones that are good at school and good at sport and go to pubs and know what to say and go you know the successes in this life that they don't often go far in spirit do they I think it's the unhappy ones really are more spiritually blessed I really say that seriously you know and and one of the and one of the problems one of the problems of of uh people that don't really progress very well in meditation is they're not sufficiently unhappy when when you're miserable you've got a motive to practice Haven you true yes I don't value worldly happiness very highly at all really I think I know more about tears dryness but you laugh a lot funny I I love quite a lot now we've been laughing a lot this last week haven't we but it's it's something relative ly new you know this ability to you know some people find me funny don't they sometimes it's something quite new you know I can't tell you how new it is for me to be in this position you know it's something completely alien to me God knows why I'm pushed into this position do you know my my friend here Dad aren't you Dad we uh while we were having lunch he winked at me and and I love to wink now I'm an old man i' become more confident to Winking and I would very I like winking at people and it's a marvelous marvelous way of diffusing the tension of a situation isn't it and especially when he comes from an old man people don't take offense to they I can wink at girls and everybody down and I get I get away with it and I love it [Music] really yes so solves many problems doesn't it nice [Laughter] wink yeah
