Dungeon Meshi: A Masterpiece in Storytelling

hello everyone I'm Justin and for today's video we're eating some [Music] monsters dungeon Mesi is an incredibly well-crafted anime with so much attention to detail that makes me to think the whole perspective of what is a good fantasy anime no need for the typical isekai MC bringing his Japanese views into the story no power fantasy where our main character is extremely Op with a typical Haram setting how about instead we focus on the basics create a world with rules systems something unique give us a group of experienced adventurers that are not overpowered but are season enough to understand how to survive in a dangerous place and finally make the monsters tasty because we're eating good tonight it is not every day that you see such a unique idea takes center stage of a story and to dedicate so much time and effort into the Ecology of a dungeon in a fantasy world is an achievement to the auter you have these detailed explanations of how the ecosystem of each floor works almost every monster can be eaten and in such unique ways that you can't even imagine we start easy with some mushroom monsters or how about the Basilisk that is basically just a chicken but we quickly move on onto weirder things how about a Living Armor a Living Armor you say but aren those things made with magic that is what the story does so incredibly well it twist her perception of what can and can't be done creates a unique solution and brings it into the story in a way that makes sense but it also makes it edil how about instead of magic living armors are your small living inside the crevices of the armor making it look empty inside while still maintaining the appearance of a warrior wearing an armor and you know the best part of our mollusks well you can eat them and it doesn't end with that how about eating treasure box you know the bgs that pretend to look like jewels and coins well I get you one better how about turn the box into jelly turn the jelly into sacate water and swing it into ghost to make it cold creating ghostly ice cream in the process whenever you think you are getting used to the uniqueness of this anime it always hits you different it's not just the quirkiness of the food but how it looks and how good it is animated just look and tell me you don't want to eat a piece of that meat con [Music] and so far I have only talked about the background information and food we haven't even touched on the story yet so let me start by saying the synopsis but before that here is a quick reminder that there will be Major Spoilers ahead for the story so what is dungeon mesy about well as soon as the story starts we're thrown directly into it an adventure party is fighting against the dragon and as they escape one of their members gets eaten by the dragon back in the surface or main protagonist lios who is the brother of the Eden girl vows to go back to save her some of their party members live staying only with the elf wizard Marcel and the thief halfling chil chunk they are planning on diving back into the dungeon to kill the dragon and resurrect their falling camade apply named falling but there is a small issue they are completely broke no money for weapons pain for companions or even rations so how are they going to survive in this dungeon without the most simple necessity of food well just eat monsters in it every new floor brings the new flavors into the table and thankfully in the first floor they find a new companion that will help them with that the dwarf Warrior SL Chef seni who appreciates Leo's interest in Monster food and decides to join them as he wants to try Dragon Meat so the story is set a group of adventurers going down a dungeon while eating monsters with the objective of finding the dragon to kill and resurrect their friend pretty straightforward story if you tell me and just by itself the plot is already above average but what really makes it stand out so much to me is the World building and the attention to detail the World building in this story is on another level through the run it gives you bits and pieces of information not dumping you with the whole knowledge in one go but sharing the information slowly and when it makes sense for them to be talking about it rather than just randomly spouting the explanations just to feel the reader's curiosity a great example of this is resurrection action when the story starts we're giving the information that you can resurrect your friends and when I saw that I was like okay we're in this type of world where that is just a state that can be rebed but as the story progresses and we meet with a scholar we find out that Resurrection is only possible inside the dungeon and further on the land where the dungeon is located once belong to elves and they are planning to reclaim it in order to obtain the resurrection SP H outside the dungeon but let's go back to eating food there are so many stories to tell like the Orcs that were displaced from their lands by elves to live in the dungeon the group of Rogue adventurers living in the dungeon and the ex members of lios party but for now let's focus on the important part of the lore what is the dungeon years ago in a small land a corpse came out telling everyone about a golden Kingdom taken over by a mad wizard that HD it at the bottom of a dungeon whoever defeats the wizard will be awarded with all the fortunes in the kingdom and with that the adventurers s into the dungeon for fortune and Glory some do it for the knowledge some for the glory and others for the money and now is the turn of our main protagonist to do it for his family now that's how you build the story around the world aside from that as I mentioned there are multiple elements of World building that keeps adding into the entertainment factor of the story and I'm sure you will enjoy discovering them in your own watch time this anime has a heavy inspiration from Dungeons and Dragons you can see it on the different races monsters but also on the bantering and interactions between characters and it is no wonder that the manga finishes run after the release of balor's gate Tre because otherwise we would have been looking at a long Hiatus now I want to touch on the last element that makes this anime so special and that is the animation studio trigger pulled no punches when it came to animation in the past I have been critical of their original animes but something we can all agree on is that they have the incredibly good and distinct Ive animation that makes it stand out against the Sea of robotic and low quality animation that some Studios have and combined with such a good story as it is dungeon meshy and you have a recipe for success and it is not your typical trigger show because even different episodes have different animators that bring their own uniqueness and style to the anime at some moments you can have the most respectable animation then they go hard with a fight [Music] scene but they also hit you with the wacky [Music] faces and what can I say about that sword throw in the dragon [Music] fight every single episode they are coming out with their a game just to bring us the best experience you could have hoped for for an adaptation to this story and God damn it is working because I am completely invested in the story now as of the making of this video the episode 12 just finished hering making the half point of the eneme and at this point they have already successfully defeated the dragon and resurrected falling which at first got me wondering well what else is there to do we have already achieved our objective but you need to remember all those teth bits of World building the wizard at the bottom of the dungeon the elbs on their way to reclaim the land the secrets of the lost kingdom and a group of adventurers that just love to eat monsters dungeon Mesi is not even close to Peak yet and I am completely invested in it and with
