Dune: Paul's Sister Explained (Alia Atreides)

this video contains spoilers for the first dune novel and both Dune movies as well as minor spoilers for Dune messiah in the opening sequence of Dune part two Paul at trates speaks to his unborn sister in the womb he says sister father is dead shouldn't you go back to the Stars be with him I'm afraid I won't have enough time to fix things before you're coming this world is beyond cruelty this scene is probably surprising to lots of viewers since Paul learns about Jessica's pregnancy offc screen in the book Paul realizes Jessica is pregnant after they flee the heinens the spice of the desert gives Paul a flood of precient Visions because the spice mange is psychoactive it's how the Ben jzr have superhuman capabilities for example so Paul gets really distant and upset when he receives these Visions he's angry at his mother and the Benny JZ for making him a free he realizes that Jessica's father was Baron Vladimir hekinan the heinens are Paul's family as well as his enemy with the fury in his voice Paul says I'll tell you first I know you'll bear a daughter my sister here on oracus he thinks you'll bear my sister St Alia of the knife so who is St Alia of the knife what is her purpose in the story in the movie she isn't actually born yet and Paul has a vision of her after drinking the Water of Life he sees Alia on a dune of sand but they're overlooking an ocean of crashing waves like on kaladan there are no oceans on oracus so Paul might be seeing an alternate future in which his mission to lead the fman to paradise and return plants and water to the desert has succeeded Alias says my brother my dearest brother you are not prepared for what is to come you will now learn the truth truth about our family and it will hurt you to the core don't worry I'm with you I love you when Paul awakens Alia was right he knows the truth about his lineage Paul is the grandson of Vladimir harinen so this is a little different from the book where Paul learns about his family from the spice not after drinking the water of life like in the movie in the book Alia becomes pre-born in the womb after Jessica drinks the Water of Life this means Alia is aware of herself and has ancestral memories before she was even born the events at the end of Dune part two take place after a 2-year time jump in the books and Paul spends several years training the fman meaning that Alia atres is 4 years old when Paul defeats the emperor well her body is 4 years old but her mind is very Advanced since she was pre-born get out of my mind not until you tell them both Who I Really Am Alia is a very unique person a woman of contradictions she's both virgin and Harlot witty but also vulgar and cruel she represents ultimate tension when Jessica drinks the Water of Life the super old Reverend mother gasps and loses her mind when she realizes Jessica was pregnant because the Benny JZ believe the children who were pre-born are more likely to become Abominations the Water of Life awakens Alia and gives her access to vast knowledge called genetic memory she can be possessed by the spirits of people long dead and those who cannot control this Dangerous Power are labeled Abomination at the end of Dune the Reverend mother says that child is an Abomination her mother deserves a punishment greater than anything in history death it cannot come too quickly for that that child or for the one who spawned her but little Alia is able to invade the Reverend mother's mind she says my brother comes now even an emperor May tremble before muad for he has the strength of righteousness and Heaven Smiles upon him then Paul attacks the emperor and the heinens kills fade rtha and takes the throne and Al had knew it before it happened so as to not spoil future do novels I won't go into to the rest of Alia's life I will explain the origin of her full name Saint Alia of the knife it's the very first thing Paul calls her when the spice Visions tell him of Jessica's pregnancy at the Battle of erakin Alia is the one who kills the baron not Paul she uses the poisoned tip of aam Jabar on him and tells him I'm sorry grandfather you've met the atres gam Jabar then she goes outside and begins killing start a car and hearken in soldiers using a Chris knife That's Why They Call Her Saint Alia of the knife so in Dune part two Den Ville new skipped the time Skip and kept Jessica pregnant the whole movie at the end after Paul defeats the emperor Alia asks what is happening mother and Jessica reveals the plot of the next movie your brother attacks the great houses the holy war begins Paul did not want this to happen but after he drank the water of life he seemed to realize that this was his only way forward his terrible purpose and Saint ellia will join him in Dune Messiah let me know in the comments how you feel about Alia atres and the changes in Dune thanks for watching and please like the video and subscribe if you haven't already
