Idk Iโm a fan of google maps and just looking at it the place is โislandsโ in the desert. A car is a must have to โboatโ between them
Iโve been living in Dubai for close to 5 years now and have worked on a 15b$ / 5km2 large scale real estate project, and this guy is very spot on.
However as he mentioned (kind of), Dubai is 92% non-Emirati, with residents mainly from the Asian sub-continent, South-East Asia, Europe (Eastern and Western), Russia, North America, and of course North Africa and other Arab countries. These populations are usually attracted by the very high salaries (compared to home countries). Whatever your nationality, you will find a community of your own. People usually donโt come for the immense cultural diversity (which they should), and are usually interested in being surrounded by similarly-minded people.
The city is built -with all of the defaults mentioned in the video-, to accommodate the different lifestyle of each culture, each families, at nearly all price-point. Because of all this, it is a very interesting city because transitions will need to happen to make it better connected, and this will take time. You can live in Dubai without owning a car, but be ready to use Taxi often then.
Also, as people often point out there is โno cultureโ / โno historyโ in Dubai, but this is what makes it interesting, we are building itโs history right now, with the craziest cultural mix in the history of the world (92% foreigners), so of course the real estate is scattered, but it is all work in progress.
Iโve lived in 10 cities, from Europe, to North America, South East Asia, and the Middle East, and as you can see from this post I really love this Emirate. On top of life being great here - with all itโs flaws - itโs probably the best place to boarder your cultural understanding, meet, work and socialize with people from all social classes from all over the world.
that's a great YouTube channel. his videos are good and well thought out
I'm living in Dubai and I loved it but only issue is no car no fun I absolutely agree vth u
This guy's Cinci video is pretty good.
Just try and find some cheap ticket and experience it for yourself. The chap is right on, IMO.
I think this guy dramatised a lot, although is substantially almost right. The video unspoken true is that many of these mega blocks are, yes, self sufficient, but also internally well connected and liveable. Taking as an example the โmarinaโ, this guy is showing the back street only, where all the entrances for the car parks are, not the Main Street and the internal pedestrian only areas, full of shops and restaurants. If you are lucky enough to live and work in the same mega block, than you would be able to avoid using the car at least in that half of the year when the outside temperature is bearable So I would say this guy gets it about 60-70% right (What is really awful though is the expressway network. You get the wrong exit and BOOM! You are an hour late) Source: I lived in there for 4years and visiting often for work and friends
