Creating a User Account
with Amber Matz In this tutorial we'll walk through
how to create a user account. By the end of this tutorial, you'll
understand how to create Vendor user accounts for Sweet
Honey and Happy Farm vendors. To follow along, you should
understand the concepts of users, roles, and permissions, the User 1 account, and have
completed the tutorial "Creating a Role"
where we created the "Vendor" role. See the written version of this tutorial for links to these prerequisite
tutorials. In the Manage Administrative menu
navigate to People. This is the admin/people path. Click Add user. This form allows administrators to
register new users. Users' email addresses and user
names must be unique within the system. Let's create a new user for the
vendor Sweet Honey. The email address is a valid email
address for the vendor. All emails from the system will be
sent to this address. The email address is not made public. Let's fill in honey@example.com. The user name is a user name
for the vendor that they will use to sign in or
author content items. Spaces are allowed. Punctuation is not allowed except for
periods, hyphens, apostrophes, and underscores. Fill in Sweet Honey. The Password is the password the
vendor will use to sign in to the site. You can see how safe the password
is on the Password strength gauge. You can also get tips on how to
make it safer. An administrator can assign a
password to a new user who can then change it after they
log in or they can use the Reset my password link,
which will cause the system to send a one-time login link to the
user's email address. Fill in any password for this example. In practice, you should fill in a more
secure password. But just remember what you typed
because in this field, Confirm password, we need to
confirm the new password by typing it again. This prevents accidental typos when
creating a new password. The Status is a field for administrators which allows them to set the status
of the user account. Blocked users will not be able to
sign in. Let's make sure Active is selected. A user may be assigned
multiple roles. Let's add Vendor to the roles for
this user. Notify user of new account allows
you to decide whether or not to send a notification to the vendor's email
address when this form is submitted. Let's check it. The Picture field allows you to
click Browse and select a picture to upload. Pay attention to size restrictions. As an administrator, it's common to
leave this field blank and allow the user to select a picture
for themselves when they log in. Contact settings allows the user to
enable or disable the display of a contact form for
the account. Drupal comes with a built-in Contact
Form module and visitors can use this form to
contact users of the site instead of exposing the user's email
address to the public. We're now done filling out this form. By clicking Save, the new user will
be notified of their new account. Also, we will get a notification that a
new user account has been created. Now create a second user account
for Happy Farm by following the steps we just
demonstrated. In this tutorial, we walked through
the steps of how to create a new user account
for the vendor, Sweet Honey. On your own, create another user
account for the vendor Happy Farm. Refer to the steps in the written
version of this tutorial to refresh your memory of the process.
